This monthly column will help everyone work with the energies around them in a different way. I’m talking about animal magick. People, especially children, have an easier time picking up on the energy produced by animals. Also, most animals receive a more open welcome than some of the other spirits that hang around this plane. The animal forecast column will guide you to the feminine and masculine animal energies for each month. I’ll tell you a little bit about each animal, their lessons, and how to combine their energy to help you move through the current month. So let’s get started!
October Animal Forecast
Main Animal: Grouse - Masculine energy
Properties: wishes, personal power, sacred spiral
Lessons: discipline, harnessing energy
Supporting Animal: Mouse - Feminine Energy
Properties: trust, discovery, innocence
Lessons: balance, organization
Their Combined Energy:
October is a time of organization. With the Pagan Year coming to an end, this is a great time to finish things. Take a deep breath and make yourself complete those projects you've pushed to the side. Clean out the garage you keep telling yourself you can do tomorrow. Have the discipline to work through the stuff you don't want to, so you can begin the new year fresh.
This is also a time to embrace the child within. Samhain brings candy, games, and dressing up as anything we could ever imagine. Have fun! Reward yourself for all the work you're doing. Trust in yourself that a balance of hard work and childish innocence will get you the life you deserve.
Items that attract (crystals, colors, herbs):
Grouse - amethyst, bloodstone, jade; lavender, silver blue; carnation, cinnamon, vanilla
Mouse - calcite, chrysoprase, marble; brown, green; grape, mint, pine
The easiest way to communicate with animal spirits is to meditate. Find a comfortable spot and call out to them. You may also want to go to an area that you might find them. Examples include a body of water for any water animals, a quiet park for ground creatures, or any open field for avian animals. This month I'd suggest going to a forest or park that has brush around sunrise.
