Spiritual Guidance from the Archangel Raphael

I completely understand that some of you may feel slightly uneasy with the idea of working with angels, particularly Archangels as they are most commonly thought of as being exclusively apart of the Judeo-Christian faiths. But, I assure you that no one particular group “owns” the exclusive rights to the angels, and they wish to help all of us, regardless of which religion we practice. For the purposes of this article, I am focusing on the healer Raphael and how he can guide us when we feel a bit lost or “confuddled” about a situation and could use a good nudge in the right direction.

Raphael, the angel of the East, spring, dawn and the air, is the son of the high-god El and the goddess Atirat (Astarte/Ishtar). Originally called Labbiel in the Chaldean language, he became known as Raphael (meaning “Shinning Healer”) in the Judaic system. The Hebrew word “rapha” means healer, doctor or surgeon, and his task is to heal the Earth.

As the patron angel of doctors, nurses, midwives, alternative healers, travelers and those that have lost their sight, Raphael rules both science and knowledge. He glows emerald green, the healing energy, and he wears emerald green robes with bluish tints. Riding upon a breeze, Raphael holds a caduceus (symbol of healing) and he acts as a spiritual surgeon. He surrounds the afflicted area with healing light which acts like a soothing balm. Through Raphael, the earth heals and nourishes the human race.

His main function is to take care of imbalances like illness or disease so Raphael uses the energies of love, honor, light, prayer, compassion and joy. This angel of laughter and love likes jokes, creativity and playfulness.

But he’s not all fun and games. As the angel of the sun, Raphael, the Ruling Price of the Second Heaven, is the supervisor of the Guardian Angels. He looks after those that are just embarking on their spiritual path as well as those striving to excel on their chosen journey of enlightenment. Raphael gave King Solomon the gift of the Pentacle and as the angel of magickal tools and the mysteries surrounding them; he is a guide into the Underworld and guards the Tree of Life (Biliomagas). Although most commonly associated with the East, he is the governor of the South and sometimes the West. He oversees the evening winds, his colors are yellow, gold and blue and he is associated with the astrological signs of Gemini, Libra and Aquarius.

When needing a little extra guidance or an answer to a pressing question, say the following verse. I designed this “spell” to be simple, there are no props or supplies needed, only your words and your need for clarification. Sometimes we are searching for an answer to a problem so intently that we can’t see the solution even when it is right in front of us. You may elaborate upon this as much as you like; perhaps you would like to:

v Recite this while facing the East at dawn watching the sun rise

v Recite this while facing West outside with the evening wind

v Recite this on a Friday while visualizing yourself surrounded by emerald green light

v Recite this on a Sunday while visualizing yourself inside the sun

v Focus on a symbol placed upon your altar, perhaps the caduceus or the pentacle

v Light a green, yellow, gold or blue candle

“Raphael riding upon the breeze,

Keeper of the Mysteries;

I call upon you this day,

To please help show me the way.

Guide me on my chosen path

And also remind me when to laugh.

Raphael, I thank you for aiding me,

In love and light, Blessed Be.”
