Well, if you want to limit Paganism to modern Neo-Paganism... and exclude Tantra or syncretic Faiths such as Frankism, or ignore groups that include Paganism such as the OTO, and limit one's self to Bonewitz, or consider any use of sexual Energies as demonic...

Also, I have familial ties to the Frankists and find your puritanical rantings a bit offensive.

Not to mention that I resigned from Pagan Pages quite some time ago... but your "assumptions" about me and where I received my information are quite false... however, not the first time I've been a bit harassed by your internet signature.

However, I no longer write for Pagan Pages and you will have to find another venue to harass me from, as I will not be compiling further research nor discussing "Initiated" knowledge for an ezine I have resigned from.

Warm Regards,
Olen (who uses his real name and doesn't hide behind Pseudonyms)

The Satanic Panic, circa 1985-1995, demonstrated that there continue to be cultesque communities of "witchhunters" in our society, eager to falsely accuse innocent persons of committing horrific acts for alleged religious, ritualistic, "magickal" purposes. The secret covens of persons who worship "evil for the sake of evil", that these witchhunters claim to expose, do not exist and have never existed. Over centuries, witchhunters have invented complex fantasies about why "black magick witches" that supposedly worship evil, would do the things that witchhunters claim they do. One of these fantasies, widely circulated again in recent years, claims that demonic cultists ritually violate religious, social and sexual taboos to raise magickal energy.

I respectfully suggest that you absorbed this idea; that violating taboos raises magickal energy, from the fantasies of witchhunters. I think this article is very misguided and potentially dangerous to the Pagan community. I don't believe this idea is derived from traditional neopagan philosophy of magick and I challenge you to prove me wrong.

You said: "When it comes to Magick, a great deal of energy is released by the violation of a Sexual Taboo"
Why? How? Why should violation of taboo "release magickal energy"? What is the nature of this energy and what does it have to do with magick?

"This is obvious, even on a casual level, where some folk’s find semi-public acts or other personal taboos, to be so very exciting"
Actually, its not obvious at all. Are you saying that sexual thrill is the same thing as magickal energy?

"When one participates in the performance of a Taboo, whether performed directly in a Physical Manner, Vicariously by observation of Ritual, Symbolically such as in a Eucharistic Rite, or Dramatically as in Ritual Performance and Role Playing… there is a not only a release of energy but adiminishment in the Ego"
Why and how would violating sexual taboos cause a "diminishment in the Ego"? What do you mean by "diminishment in the Ego"?

"In a Dramatic Ritual the diminishment in Ego that occurs simultaneously with the release of Sexual Energy (which is Psychically amplified by the performance of the Taboo), may be utilized to allow the Consciousness of the Deity being invoked to, in effect, fill the space vacated by the now diminished Ego."

Is it sexual energy or magickal energy that is 'released'? Are they the same thing, to you? If so - why? Why and how would any energies be "psychically amplified" by violating sexual taboo?

I can't find any logical connection between what you are describing here and - for example - Bonewitz' theorems on Real Magick and how it operates. People should be very cautious about publishing hastily conceived concepts for ritual practices, in places where entire communities of people could become associated to those ideas.

I did not even begin to experience magick in my life until after breaking some sexual taboos long held due to my seriously religious upbringing. When I find my magick waning, one of my first "go-to's" is extreme sexual behavior (within my own code of monogamy).

This is a great series, often we get pretty caught up in the rituals & a little stuffy...sexuality has a wonderful effect of bringing energy, passion & even a little laughter if you do it right (or if you don't...hehehe!)

Wild & Bright Blessings,
