If the call to service means acting to protect issues of importance in the community that you’re in, Take Charge! Issues that fiercely speak to your passions, and makes you want to go out there and put that energy into direct action then pick up Witchcraft Activism by David Salisbury and take guidance from one who is actively working on merging their path with their works of service.

Witchcraft Activism by David Salisbury is one book that would be best to read through once, or even, twice. Follow the action steps to build the agenda for the work you are passionate about and keep it on the shelf to review as the situations shift. The book is written from a logical standpoint, so if the reader was planning on the steps to aid their actions, this shows you how, which for folks who need structure, is a blessing.

This book reads as someone who’s been on the ground pounding the pavement & standing with protestors at rallies as a full-on ally. The integration of the devotional work, how the system works and how to break the rules is invaluable information for the activist that is up and coming. As well as for a few of us old timers that need to be reminded that acts of service aren’t always as full of glamour as it may seem. It is good to remember our history and grow from it.

Without giving the secret sauce, it’s a book that has good beginnings for spell working to enhance the protection of the people your working with… It has well thought out ideas for protection magic, as well as working on enhancing one’s instincts in a situational awareness setting. All while doing the follow-through that good activism requires to make lasting change.

As a reference book, the back pages have a recommended reading section. It is an essential jumping off point to build one’s own reference library of writers that are strong activists within various parts of the pagan community. Take this book and launch a library to help raise others towards a brighter future. That’s not a bad plan.

Witchcraft Activism by David Salisbury along with The New Aradia: A Witch’s Handbook to Magical Resistance edited by Laura Tempest Zakroff which is full of stories about folks doing the work combining social justice, activism and magic will inspire you.
