Scents of the Season

And the Wheel of the Year turns again to Samhain. Here in the Mid-Atlantic, that means people are starting to think about pumpkin decorations while wondering if the 80-degree temperatures will turn to 60’s. Whenever this season comes back around our minds turns to the season past, and in a way that spring never really does. Spring is about the movement forward, birth and growth. Fall allows us to take stock of where we have been, and who we have been in the past. This ties in with scents so strongly because of the relationship between smell and memory. You simply cannot have one without the other.

Scent is 90% memory and only 10% recall, because in the process of understanding each smell we encounter we have to unpack the box of our experience, day by day, because each time we encounter a scent, we are encountering the last time we unpacked the memory of that scent, not the first time. We are looking at a copy, of a copy so to speak. The recent days are right there on top of the box fresh and clean because they were only placed there yesterday. Items that were put in the box five, ten or twenty years ago may take longer to find in the box, or they may be covered in dust, so it could take a minute to figure out what you’re looking at so to speak.

But we go through all of these processes because it simply could not work the other way around. Could you imagine being shocked and amazed at the smell of your own house every time you encountered it? There are hundreds of fragrances a day that we take for granted that our noses have (thankfully) written off for us as non-threatening.

With Samhain, it’s the season of taking stock, because we no longer need to take stock of our pantries and larders to make sure our families will make it through the winter, doesn’t mean we can’t take stock of our lives, our groups of friends and families. One of the easiest ways to do that is to relax our brains, our emotional centers and remind them that it is safe enough to take stock of where we are and let our sense of smell and nostalgia take over from there.

How do we do that? Call on the powers of fall. Here are some essential oils, and the magical applications you can do with them. (See ‘Blackthorn’s Botanical Magic‘ for a full list of warnings for each essential oil.)

Anise- (Pimpinella anisum) Anise is a protective plant, as well as a purifying and divining one. If you have someone in your life if you aren’t sure of their true purpose, place a drop of anise in an essential oil diffuser and use the mist created to scry or meditate on the truth of their mission. Anise will tell you the truth and help you protect your family and purify your home at the same time if needed.

 

 

Black Pepper– Improves mental alertness, physical energy and is great for protection spells. Can be used to drive away evil and as such is great for hex-breaking spells and uncrossing work of all kinds. This is perfect for Samhain as it’s this time of the year when the Veil between the worlds is thinnest that energetic nasties can be lurking outside your home. Diffuse this potent protector (again, just one drop! Don’t overdo it and cause yourself or someone else respiratory distress) to do a quick uncrossing to make sure there is nothing lurking from your latest ‘humble-brag’ at work.

 

 

Cinnamon- Boosts creativity of all kinds (artistic, linguistic and more), provides good luck, increases libido. The warming action burns away threads of negativity so is associated with protection. Is very uplifting and is associated with increased intuitive gifts. The next time you want to head into your workspace to get to the newest project consider diffusing some cinnamon essential oil 30 minutes before you are planning to get to work, so you don’t have to overcome the ‘get to know you’ part of your work day and can jump into the creative process.

 

 

Clove- The warmth of clove burns away that which doesn’t belong so its magic is dispelling that which doesn’t belong, especially people who don’t belong in your life anymore.

Ginger- This is energizing, healing and associated with love, passion, and power. What a great time to make sure that the people in your circle have your best intentions at heart. Take stock of the people who have been there for you for the past year, through phone calls, late-night PMs when you needed someone to talk to, who never had the time when you needed someone. Everyone has low times in their life, only you’ll know the difference between ‘dealing with something’ and just someone whose friendship has run its course.

Oakmoss- Not everyone is going to know this one, but I wanted to throw in a wild card. This lichen smells like leather backed with violets and is used for magic dealing with divination, grounding, hex breaking, and big-time manifestation. It also makes a great fixative for magic, so if you want to make sure that your magic is in it for the long haul, use this. (If you work with poppets, and live in a place like Florida, I’ve seen Oakmoss falling off trees, you can stuff poppets with it. Make sure to google a photo of it just because it’s on a live oak, doesn’t make it oakmoss.) By working with the scents of the season we can remember the times of Samhains and Halloweens past and embrace the best parts of ourselves. We can not only be the best of ourselves that we deserve, but that our friends and families deserve. By weeding and tending the garden of our hearts we keep those precious reserves for those people who truly deserve the fruits of our labor and our time, attention and devotion.

The Bad Witch’s Guide to Aromatherapy

 


I am a bad witch. There are a long list of reasons why I am a bad witch. Having been out of the broom closet for some considerable number of years I would on occasion get asked “but you’re a good witch though?” My response to that depending on the person asking but I found I started to say “yes, a very, very good witch” rather darkly as it usually got the point across.

 


I have a super charged sense of smell. You’d think spending my childhood on the farm would have ruined it but I think it made things like chemical and perfume smells more sensitive for me. Smells can sometimes be so intense (not even bad) that they can make me throw up.

I was just at university when I first started using essential oils. It just sort of “made sense” to me from the get go. I wonder sometimes if this is my issue with being in a large crowd, all the smells. I can tell you what death smells like, what rot and sickness smell like too. (Death is sort of like crushed elderflowers with a hint of cat pee and a hint of tin).

 


I am a qualified aromatherapist. This sometimes put me at odds with some of my teachers who went from what was in a book rather than the smell of the person they were working on. Also people lie! You get a client before you and they never smoke (but you can smell it coming from them) drink only water (is that coffee breath I smell?) and have “the odd glass of wine” on the weekend (but are sweating out that alcohol smell). This taught me two things. People will put their health and well-being in danger rather than be shamed about their bad habits and start a little and work up!

 


What is an essential oil? An essential oil is the extraction of natural plant volatile oils. These small organic compounds change quickly from solid, liquid and gas and are easily absorbed into the body, even through the skin. Steam distillation is a common essential oil extraction process but some places use chemical extraction or compression too. The organic chemicals and compounds such as carvacrol found in many essential oils like oregano and thyme seems to disrupt bacterial membranes inhibiting their growth. It also seems to block certain kinds of pain receptors too. Science is starting to catch up with what aromatherapists have been saying all along!

 


Essential oils are extremely potent. They can burn or cause intense irritation not just alone but in combination with the chemical on the skin. Food, alcohol, cigarettes, perfumes, medication and even deodorants on the skin can react with essential oils in unexpected ways.

 


Then comes personal preference. Some people really don’t like certain smells. This can be because of a memory association, or just be the body knowing it would not be good for it. My mother hated the smell of lilacs, I disliked the smell of rose geranium for years. Some people hate the smell of rose, or jasmine. Some loathe vanilla.

 

 


Lavender is a common essential oil, and usually quite cheap. However learn the Latin! Knowing your Lavandula Augustifolia from your Lavadin is important. Much like the different between French and English lavender, or Spanish or Australia grapes, the earth, water and weather have an effect on the amounts of chemical compounds in essential oils. With cheap essential oils, you get what you pay for. Often chemically extracted, thinner and paler, with less of the extracts you want. It is often a false economy.

 


Keep your essential oils away from sunlight, pets and small children (as well as some ignorant adults: someone on one of my aromatherapy courses left a bottle of peppermint oil in a bathroom cupboard and had an uncle drink it to “settle his stomach” and ended up in A&E, or the ER if you’re in the States).

 

 

Magickally aromatherapy oils can be worked into workings in all kinds of ways. From adding it to the water of your ritual baths or to your asperging or cleaning water to burning it or adding it to water to make a steam, or making ritual oils for the body or objects.

 


Essential oils can be used like incense to cleanse and clear or charge a space or blended to charge spell candles; or added to sachets or mojo bags. Lavender flowers you buy can be a touch flat when it comes to scent so you can add a couple of drops of a good lavender essential oil to the dried herb. Lavender is considered one of the safest oil for beginners to experiment with. It is generally a relaxing oil (but about 10% of people have the opposite reaction to it) so using it as way to calm a space.

 


Tranquil Space and Mind Rite


You will need:

 


6 tea-lights (and heat proof holders)

 


4 pieces of amethyst

 


Lavender essential oil

 


Cold pressed organic almond oil

 


A small container or bowl for oil

A purple candle

 

Rite:


Take some 6 simple tea-lights and remove them from their metal base.

 

Add a drop of lavender essential oil and replace the tea-light. In three pairs place them around your space (preferably in safe heat proof places) with a piece of amethyst. Take 30ml of organic cold pressed almond oil and add three drops of lavender essential oil to it, swirling gently to combine.

 


Take a small amount of the essential oil blend and rub between your palms and dress a pale purple candle. Wiping off the excess oil carefully light the candles in your space and turn of any artificial light.

 


Now taking your blend slowly and deliberately massage your body with the oil. A small dab on the forehead to begin and then working from the feet up. Take your time and make sure you don’t rush. You can now play some peaceful music and meditate using the purple candle, or simply be in the calming space.

 


Candle meditation is about focusing the eyes on the flame but watching it passively (like watching T.V). It is a softness of gaze, and one of observation. Thoughts come, and thoughts go, just let them.

 


It sounds quite simple but it can be quite transformative. Don’t be worried if you have an emotional reaction. You might cry or get the giggles. You might feel angry. This is simply what you have been holding in underneath. Keep massaging and breathing it will pass.

Eucalyptus Radiata for Aromatherapy

Eucalyptus radiata, commonly known as the Narrow-leaved peppermint or Forth River Peppermint.

Eucalyptus Radiata has a sweet, soft scent and is used for
infections higher in the respiratory tract. It is highly effective
when used with Ravansara aromatica, against colds, flu and
sinusitis.A refreshing camphorus oil with a scent that is lighter
than Eucalyptus Globulus. This is the most useful
Eucalyptus as it has a pleasant smell and is easily assimilated. It
has many of the same uses as Eucalyptus Globulus but it is milder in
its chemical composition and gentler in action. Despite its mild
chemical composition, it is highly anti-bacterial and anti-viral.
Eucalyptus Radiata has been proven effective in laboratory tests
against many viruses, including staphylococci. It is also a powerful
decongestant: in chronic and acute bronchitis it reduces the swelling
of mucus membranes, loosens phlegm and increases the oxygen supply to
restricted cells.

A few tips to get us through the Sunny Summer!

 

For Summer Colds & Stuffy Noses
Try placing 1-2 drops of Eucalyptus on a cotton ball and tuck inside your pillowcase.
For children or the elderly use Eucalyptus Smithi as the other is too harsh.

 

A Summer Cooling Recipe

With the hot summer months ahead a great recipe to try is a Peppermint and Tea Tree foot lotion.
Cooling Peppermint and the antibacterial, antifungal properties of Tea Tree make this a great summer treat. Take 8oz. of any unscented lotion, add 20 drops Peppermint, 20 drops Tea Tree and 20 drops of Rosemary essential Oil. Blend in a measuring cup and pour into a bottle.
Use as needed to revive tired feet. This blend will be energizing so you may not want to
use it to close to bedtime.

 

Deodorant Body Splash:

Vinegar–4 oz
Vodka–3 teaspoons
Grapefruit–9 drops
Lavender–5 drops
Lemon–6 drops
Peppermint–3 drops
Rosemary–4 drops
Sage–6 drops

Add to 2 cups purified water. Blend the oils together, add them to the vodka, and shake well. Let settle for half an hour, then add the vinegar and shake well. Pour mixture into 2 cups purified water and shake well. Finally, pass the liquid through a paper coffee filter. The longer you leave the essential oils in the vodka and vinegar mix before adding to the water, the stronger the scent will be.

 

Romantic Glowing Shells

Create Bergamot-scented candles that will glow all evening. Collect then thoroughly rinse seashells and add tea lights, removing out tins. Melt paraffin wax and carefully fill the seashells. Add two
to three drops of Bergamot oil to the wax, while it is still soft and melted. The fragrance will rise with the heat of the flame. Other essential oils may be used.

 

For Summer Colds with Chest Congestion

Try a steam inhalation with essential oil of Green Myrtle.  A good expectorant for respiratory complaints.

 

 

Pamper Your Feet this Summer

Regular foot massage benefits the whole body.
Here are some ideas for blends to help refresh
those tired and sometimes swollen feet.

3 drops Lavender
2 drops Chamomile
10 ml or 1/3 oz carrier oil

or
2 drops Lavender
2 drops Peppermint
in 10 ml carrier oil

If you stand on your feet all day here is
a treatment to help with swelling and circulation.
1 drop Cypress
1 drop Lavender

add to a bowl of warm water to which about 12 smooth
round pebbles have been added.

Roll the soles of your feet slowly over the pebbles
for a few minutes, then dry your feet

 

 

Summer First Aid

Keep a blend of Lavender and Tea Tree on hand
for First Aid this summer. It’s more effective
than either of the oils used alone.

Mosquito Repellents

For those looking for nonchemical alternatives, plant-based mosquito repellents are now available. Most are made with plant oils that repel mosquitoes, including basil, citronella, castor,cedar, eucalyptus, rosemary, lemongrass, peppermint, onion, garlic, feverfew, clove and geranium. But these products are more susceptible to elements like perspiration and wind, so they must be
reapplied more frequently.
Add Catnip to this list Catnip is about ten times more effective at repelling mosquitoes
than DEET — the compound used in most commercial insect repellents.

 

Flea Collars

Apply a few drops of Cedarwood to your dogs collar.
Will help to repel fleas.

 

Insect Bites
Moisten a cotton swab in Fresh Lemon Juice, Apple Cider Vinegar
or Witch Hazel
Add 1 -2 drops of essential oil to the swab then dab on the bite.
Try Lavender, Tea Tree, Eucalyptus or Lemongrass

 

Aromatherapy for your Dog
Essential oils work very well as flea and tick repellents. They have
been the active components of herbal flea collars for a very long
time, and are far safer to use than the commonly prescribed “once-a-
month” chemical flea and tick preparations. A spritz spray to repel
fleas might contain Peppermint, Citronella, Lemon and Clary Sage.
Ticks are repelled by essential oils such as Geranium, Bay,
Opoponax, Lavender and Myrrh. Add 15-25 drops of these oils in 8 oz.
of distilled water. Shake well before each use, and spritz on your
dog daily to keep fleas away. These mixtures can also be sprayed on
bedding or around the doorways of your home.

 

Keep Bugs Away at your Picnic

Place 3 drops any insect repellent
essential oils, Lemongrass or Citronella work well, in a bowl of
water.
Soak some ribbons in this solution before attaching them to the
branches of your trees.

 

Mosquito Bites – Dab tea tree (with Q-tip) on mosquito bites. We’ve
had phenomenal success with a number of people who get welts from
the bites. Not only does it relive the itching, but the welt goes
away!

Spring Cleaning!

What better way to start a new season then with aromatic, healthy, safe ways to clean and fragrance your homes.

Here are a few recipes to help you get started:

 

Mold Buster
2 teaspoons Tea Tree essential oil
2 Cups Water

Add to a spray bottle, shake before using.
Apply to mold and mildew, do not rinse off.

Nothing works as well for mold and mildew as Tea Tree.

 

Scented Sheets to Help Sleep

Sheets scented with Essential Oil of Lavender help to induce sleep.
There are a few ways to accomplish this.
Add Lavender to the rinse cycle while washing.
Add Lavender to Unscented Bounce dryer sheets.
Store sheets in linen closet with Lavender sachets.
Spray sheets with Lavender hydrosol or floral water.

 

Musty Basements
This is a great idea, get one of those socket type diffusers

Add some Bergamot Mint and keep it in your basement. With the rainy
Spring some of us have had we need something to help with the musty
smell.

That damp, musty odor most basements get can be safely eliminated
with Bergamot Mint. Botanical name Mentha citrata
This unusual oil is actually a mint!
Soft with floral notes and touches of citrus it is similar to
Bergamot,this oil will brighten your mood and lift your spirits.
Unlike the mint oils it is not stimulating but actually de-stressing
like Lavender.
High in linalol and linalyl acetate (like Lavender) it is much safer
on the skin than other mint oils. Used in proper dilutions, it is
neither irritating, sensitizing, nor photosensitizing, much safer to
use than either Bergamot or Peppermint alone.

 

Tub and Shower Scrub
This recipe helps to remove and prevent mold and mildew buildup.
1/2 Cup Baking Soda
10 drops Tea Tree essential oil
10 drops Lavender essential oil
10 drops Geranium essential oil

Combine all ingredients and using a damp sponge or cloth, scrub
bathtub and/or shower.
For serious mildew buildup areas, combine 20 drops of Tea Tree and
water in a spray bottle,
and spray area everyday for 5 days, then 2x a week.

 

Washing Floors

Next time you’re mopping the floors, try a combination of Murphy’s
oil soap and pure essential oils,in a ratio of 20 drops of essential
oils to 2 gallons of water. Recommended oils to try are: Eucalyptus,
Lavender, Lemon, Patchouli, Pine, Rosemary, Sweet Orange. Use singly
or in combination.

 

Refresh Your Pillows

To rejuvenate and fluff up pillows, place them one at a time
in the dryer on a warm setting for 10 minutes with two clean tennis
balls.
For a pleasant scent, sprinkle three drops of an essential oil, like
orange or rose onto a cotton ball, tie it into a handkerchief, and
add it to the dryer along with the pillows.
Enjoy!

 

The Scented Bath/Powder Room
An easy way to freshen the bathroom.
Place several drops of essential oil on the cardboard
of the toilet tissue roll.
Each time it is used the scent
will diffuse into the room.

 

Carpet Cleaning

Add 10 drops of Lemon Essential Oil for each gallon of water when
cleaning your carpets.
You’ll notice the fresh smell!

 

Laundry Tip

Kill dust mites and other allergens in the laundry

Add a few drops of Eucalyptus essential oil to the
final rinse water then dry clothes in the dryer.

 

Closet Tip

Here is a fragrant blend that will keep fabrics safe and smelling
fresh.
Mix two cups each cedar chips and lavender buds with 3 drops lemon
oil and 5 drops each cedar and lavender oils. Place this mixture in
a basket with a muslin covering. Keep the basket in a storage trunk
or in a linen or clothes closet!

 

Mothballs: The common mothball is made of paradichlorobenzene, which
is harmful to liver and kidneys. Cedar chips in a cheesecloth
square, or cedar oil in an absorbent cloth will repel moths. The
cedar should be ‘aromatic cedar’, also referred to as juniper in
some areas. Cedar chips are available at many craft supply stores,
or make your own using a plane and a block of cedar from the
lumber yard.
Homemade moth-repelling sachets can also be made with lavender,
rosemary, vetiver and rose petals.
Dried lemon peels are also a natural moth deterrent – simply toss
into clothes chest, or tie in cheesecloth and hang in the closet.

 

Room Spray to Cleanse & Freshen the Air

With all the colds going around perhaps
you need to take this spray to work with
you.

1 drop Tea Tree essential oil

6 drops Bergamot

8 drops Lemon
in
1 oz. of water

 

Germ Buster Wipes

Mix equal parts of Lavender, Thyme and Eucalyptus.
Use in a spray
bottle to wipe down surfaces in the kitchen and bathroom.
Moisten paper towels with this blend and wipe over surfaces.

 

Lemon Mint Window Wash
For the shiniest windows ever!
Ingredients:
Juice from one fresh Lemon

2 Cups water or Club Soda

1/2 teaspoon Peppermint essential oil

1 teaspoon Cornstarch
Mix all ingredients and pour into a plastic spray bottle.
Shake before using.
Try using sheets of black and white newspaper, it
shines without streaking. An old home remedy.

 

 

Spring… a new beginning

The following essential oils are uplifting, help promote creativity,
and a sense of renewal. Geranium, Coriander, Rose and Nutmeg
Try placing 3 drops on a tissue and inhale.
Diffuse using any room

Lemons

Lemons

Lemons might seem an unlikely addition to

the Witch’s armoury but they have a good

many uses both medicinally and magically.

Lemons have long been prized for their high vitamin content, and lemon juice is still carried at sea to prevent scurvy. The juice makes an excellent gargle for sore throats and, when diluted, can be applied to reduce itching. It is recommended for rheumatic pain and can even be used to counteract some poisons. A teaspoon undiluted will cure even the most stubborn hiccoughs. If you make your own lemonade you won’t want to touch the fizzy stuff again. Mix the juice of one lemon and a tablespoonful of caster sugar in ½ pint of cold water and drink for the most refreshing and cooling drink.

Lemon juice in water can be used to cleanse magical objects and is particularly good at shining up silverware. Lemon Charms were often made and given to bring blessings and luck, especially in a new home. Take a small lemon and tie it with red ribbon to hang it up. Into the remaining skin press as many new pins as you can. Hang it in the central room of the house. An alternative version of this was sometimes made by pressing cloves into the skin. Grow a lemon from seed if you wish to attract love, and if the tree bears fruit, however small, give it to your lover to seal your relationship. Thinly slice a lemon crossways and carefully dry the slices. Arrange and glue these in a crescent moon and place above your altar as a gift to the Goddess.

Aromatherapy

What is Aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy uses essential oils extracted from natures flowers and herbs. They are used singley or in blends. The aroma is inhaled, and the oils mayb be applied to the skin, as well. The herbs/flowers or combinations address specific disorders or needs. It appears the body is able to utilize the healing properties of the oils through the olfactory system of the body and so initiate the healing process. These illnesses maybe physical or emotional.

Seasonal Aromatherapy
Season’s are changing and it’s getting colder out. I thought I would share with you some aromatherapy tips on some seasonal disorders that you may find useful. These are mainly physical.

 

Nasal Inhaler
Use to inhale the vapors when you have a cold or sinus congestion.

You’ll need

rock salt
2 drops essential oil eucalyptus
2 drops essential oil rosemary
1 drop essential oil peppermint

Put a few pieces of rock salt into a glass vial, add the drops.
The salt will absorb the oils.

Or Simply add the drops to a handkerchief to inhale.

 

Sinus Infection

A compress with Peppermint oil relieves the symptoms of a sinus
infection.

Mix 5 drops of Peppermint oil in two cups of warm water.

Lay a small cloth dampened with the mixture across your nose
and your cheekbones.

Breathe deeply, keeping your eyes closed.

 
Winter Skin Relief

Here’s a blend for dry, rough and scaly skin.

Lavender 4 drops
Patchouli 2 drops
Sandalwood 4 drops

Use in 1/2 oz. of carrier oil. (Find out about Carrier Oils)

 

Sore Throat
At the first sign of a sore throat try this.

DO NOT SWALLOW!!

Dissolve 1/2 teaspoon salt in warm water and add 2 drops of Tea Tree essential oil, stir well.

DO NOT SWALLOW!!
Gargle, repeat several times.

 
For Windburn Chapped Skin

Mix 3 drops of Lavender or Chamomile in
1 Tablespoon Jojoba

Apply to skin.

 
Winter Protection

Mix 20 drops of Sandalwood in 3 oz. of base oil.
Sweet Almond, Grapeseed and Safflower oils are
some to try.

This blend is said to strengthen
the immune system against colds and flu.

Use as a massage oil.
Massage feet before bed, put on socks and go to sleep.

 

Sore Throat Gargle

Just 1 drop of Cedarwood Atlas Cedrus atlantica,in 1/2 cup water can be used as a sore throat gargle.

Allergies with Sinusitis

Allergies such as hay fever will often cause sinusitis.
A little Lavender gently massaged into the sinuses at
either side of the nose will help to clear the condition.
Be sure to dilute in a carrier oil. (Find out about Carrier Oils)

 

Allergy FootBath

Essential oils are easily absorbed through the feet
therefore an aromatic footbath can be effective for
allergy related symptoms.
Try this blend for allergy relief symptoms

1 drop Geranium
1 drop Rose
3 drops Lavender

Combine with 2 Tablespoons Sea Salts.
Add to a basin of tepid water.
Soak feet for 15 minutes.

Use as a preventive during seasonal changes
when you expect allergy symptoms
Headaches

When using essential oils for a headache,
try inhalation from a tissue. This method
often works faster and better than massage.
Oils to try are Lavender, Chamomile, Peppermint,
Basil and Rosemary.

 

 

Ravensara Oil

Helpful for chronic fatigue.
An essential oil which has a regulating effect
while energizing the immune system
and balancing the circulating immunoglobulins.
A very good expectorant, helpful for bronchitis.
Gentle yet effective. Can be used on young and old alike.
Can be used neat or undiluted on the skin.
Apply neat to cold sores.
A very powerful anti viral oil

 

Muscle Cramp Rub

Adding Tangerine to a massage oil will help to relax cramped muscles.

 

Fever

Eucalyptus can effectively bring down a fever.

Add 6 drops to a bowl of tepid water. Mix.

Dampen several clothes in the water, wring out and apply to wrists, feet and forehead.

Wipe down the rest of the body with one of the cloths.

 

Help Clear Sinuses and Ease Breathing

To help clear sinuses and ease breathing,
place 1-2 drops of Sweet Marjoram oil on
a handkerchief or tissue and inhale deeply.

 

Muscle, Nerve, & Joint Pain

Eucalyptus oil is an effective analgesic and is
often used to relieve muscle, nerve and joint pain.
Apply a massage oil to the affected area before a
warm bath,then massage the area again after your bath.
You can use a blend of Lavender and Eucalyptus for even
better results.
When massaging small areas like a shoulder you can
double the amount of essential oils used.
ex. 20-30 drops per 1 oz. carrier oil. (Find out about Carrier Oils)

 

Colds & Flus

Keep this blend on hand for colds and flu.

Blend together

5 drops of Lavender
5 drops of Tea Tree
5 drops of Eucalyptus

Store in an amber or cobalt bottle.

When ready to use blend 5 drops in a teaspoon of
vegetable oil. Rub over swollen glands and neck area.

May be applied once every hour.

 

For Lowered Immunity

Choose Rosewood when you want an immune stimulating oil
but not an energizing one like Tea Tree.
Rosewood is gentle, a very safe oil, a good oil for anyone with
lowered immunity. It is also helpful for chronic fatigue.

 

Upset Tummy

Upset Tummy Aid

7 drops Mandarin
4 drops Ginger
4 drops Peppermint

Add to 1 oz. carrier oil. (Find out about Carrier Oils)
Massage on tummy as needed.
Try inhaling directly from the bottle.

Healthy Fall Earrings

My goal is to reach my 103rd birthday in the far future. But to achieve that in the best possible condition and state of mind needs some serious groundwork.

One aspect of it is nurturing myself with healing and empowering, all natural essential oils. I have gone one step further than just lighting up an aromalamp at home; I wear them in my earrings. I created the idea of aromatherapy earrings nearly a year ago, and am totally hooked on it now! I craft the earrings myself, and each model holds a special place for an absorbent material for essential oils. You simply add one drop of oil on each earring, and that´s it. By wearing them I can boost my well-being right at the spot, on the go, when I need it the most. Aromatherapy winds me up during the day, no matter where I go. Now I can live life to the fullest, knowing I´m doing my best. (My grandpa used to teach me that as long as I do my best, no one can blame me for anything. Wise words.)

Another aspect of taking care of oneself is beauty. Beauty is a universal matter, that is appreciated in all cultures. I believe beauty keeps the soul bubbly and enhances life force within.

Combining beauty with health-promoting essential oils is a great boost to my everyday life. Dressing to the season/sabbat is a natural way to tune in with nature and the wheel-of-the-year.
