Astral Travel, Lesson 8

Alora February, 2011

February Assignment: Black and White Answers

This assignment is rather simple, but effective when done with dedication! At bedtime, go through your normal ritual with a few additions: cover your eyes when you are ready for sleep, even if it is dark out. If you have a phone in your room, unplug it or turn the ringer off. If you can, close the door. Lay on your back. Clear your mind. Silence your mind. Of course, this is always easier said than done so if you are out of practice silencing your mind, take a few nights to get the hang of it again. Don’t rush this assignment, remember that you have a full month to complete it. ;)

Breathe calmly, slowly, steadily.

When your body is fully relaxed tell yourself (remember– don’t ask, rather announce what is going to happen) that tonight you are astral traveling to the Chalkboard Room. This room is as it sounds: one giant chalkboard along all four walls and ceiling.  Your room may have a chalkboard floor, but this usually comes and goes depending on why you are in the room. If you like furniture in your room, allow it to be there.

The first night you go to this room, don’t focus too hard on anything. Just allow yourself to be there. Enjoy the experience and be happy in the room.  There may or may not be stuff written on the boards. If there is, don’t focus on what is written there just yet. Simply acknowledge that you see it and shrug it off.

The second or third time you enter this room, ask a question. Just one. Know and expect that the answer will appear somewhere on one of the walls and that this answer is completely honest. You’ll know where the answer is the moment it appears.
Make your first question a simple one. Be satisfied with the first answer you receive. Ask something like “Which bill will I receive tomorrow?” or “Who will call before noon?” or another that you prefer.

At first, make the point of being in this room, enjoying the room. The Chalkboard Room is a  gift that is available to anyone and everyone who chooses to go inside. On the same note, The Chalkboard Room is personal, made just for you. Love it, connect with it, and again, enjoy it.

After you get the hang of it, ask a question that is less simple. Trust that the answer will be there, even if it is an answer that isn’t currently ideal.

Good luck and safe travels. I am always here if you need me!

Astral Travel, Lesson 7

Alora January, 2011

January Assignment

During a group astral travel exercise, we were all instructed to meet at a picnic table in the mountains. The table was made of red wood and there was a small creek nearby. The sun was shinning and the arm was comfortably warm. Most of the group made it and we were pleasantly surprised to see a parrot, two cats, and three dogs. The next day when we all reported our experiences, everyone mentioned the animals that were there. Two of the dogs were mine and the parrot’s name was Marley. The other animals went unclaimed but were, of course, completely welcome. Many of us speculated that the unclaimed animals were spirit guides or totems, unseen in this world and visible in the astral.

For this assignment you have three choices:

A) If you don’t know what your animal guide or totem is, then assignment A is to find out. You may have several animals so don’t keep your mind wide open! There are two suggested ways of discovering your animal(s): go into your meditative state and tell the universe to show you. Once in your meditative state, your animal will appear. Talk to it and ask for confirmation. Don’t be disappointed if the conversation doesn’t happen with words. Look for symbolism, gestures, and be aware of feelings. Your animal may have a preferred name, or may allow you to name him or her. When you are done, give thanks to the universe and to your animal.

B) If you already know your animal guide, then invite an animal from this physical realm to astral travel with you. Animals are big travelers and love going with us! Both of my dogs and one of my cats are always eager to head out into the big astral realm with me. We don’t always stay together, but it’s always fun, always safe, and a lot of times the animals help me leave my body. How they do it, or if they do it intentionally is unclear. Give it a try! Talk out loud or telepathically to any animals in your life. Ask to travel with them tonight when you both sleep. Allow them to lead the way and just relax and let the whole experience happen.

C) If you don’t have any animals in your physical life and you already know who your totem is then get to know your totem even more. Have a special session with the animal who is always with you, even when you can see or sense him or her. Make it a magical, personal, and real experience for you both.

September Assignment

The feedback I’ve been receiving leads me to believe that many of you would like or need an extension on the October assignment. I believe that the October assignment is a tremendous method that provides healing, a means of communication when physical communication isn’t possible, reaching out, and can provide blessed closure. So this month’s assignment will simply be an extension of October. Hopefully this will give you each more time to connect and, if need be, to heal.

I state again that this exercise is about using your imagination. We have been conditioned to not use our imaginations for so long that we often discredit anything we create with our minds. Give yourself permission to make this real.

If you are doing this to heal, use this opportunity to say whatever you want/need to say. Be brutal, purge it all out, and allow yourself to say things that you might consider embarrassing or humiliating if you were to say it in the physical world.

A lot of that goes for trying to connect with something you lost touch with. Be brutally honest with the avatar in front of you.

Of course, you are welcomed and encouraged to try a different method, and you are always encouraged to share what has or has not worked for you with the class. You don’t have to share anything personal if you aren’t comfortable.

Here is the basic formula to follow:

Go into a meditative state (don’t fall asleep for this one!)

Create the meeting room

Decorate it is you wish to so long as it is comfortable and happy

Imagine the person in front of you. Really see them: their clothes, hair, wrinkles, height, weight, and mannerisms. Take your time.

Say what you need to say. This person has no choice but to listen because you are creating them to listen.

Be brutally honest. Cut open those old wounds that never fully healed, if applicable, and clean them out once and for all. Or remember the good times you had together and how your person laughs. Laugh together, if for no other reason than because you can. My youngest brother was killed in a car accident when he was 20 years old and oh the joyful conversations we’ve had since!

Remember that you are in control. You are always safe.

This process can be done more than once. You know what and how much you need.

Release the person. This is so important. Let them go. Say goodbye and close the door. Let the person and yourself know without any doubt when it is over. Remember, you can always go back and do it again later, but make sure to end each session properly.

Be brave and take this journey. You can do it and I’m always here (or in the astral) if you need me. Be well, my friends.

Astral Travel, Lesson 4

Alora October, 2010

Some define astral traveling as the consciousness leaving the physical body and flying around the astral realm. Others believe that using one’s imagination to achieve astral travel or while in the astral realm makes the experience less “real”.

Not true. The imagination can work great feats for the traveler in the astral realm. Liken it to creating your own reality and then bringing much of that “imagined” reality back here to the physical realm.

We will go into this further in future assignments, but for October we are going to focus on how to work in the astral to achieve communication with someone you can’t/don’t/won’t communicate with physically.

Angie was my best friend in high school. When we graduated, we each had to explore the new adult world in our own ways and our decisions separated us. Almost ten years past without a word between us. I thought of her from time to time and hoped she was well but didn’t really feel the need to contact her again just yet.

One day I started thinking about Angie a lot. I had moved to Michigan and then California from our native Colorado in those ten years and had no idea how to reach her. When I last knew Angie, she was living with her parents so I wrote a letter to that address, knowing they could have moved in the past decade. I called every person with her name in the phone book from the area she was in when I last saw her.

All attempts failed. She could have gotten married and changed last names, she could have moved to a different city or state. There was no way for me to know what had happened to her.

I had joined the aforementioned OBE group by then and someone suggested to me that I reach Angie in the astral. What the hell- I thought. Far less embarrassing than calling strangers and asking if we went to high school together. I remember quite clearly that it was a Wednesday night. I lay down, did my meditation method and used my imagination to visual Angie as I last knew her.  The visualization took awhile because my mind wanted more to do than just recreate this person from memory, so I had to work hard at focusing.

I saw Angie sitting on my couch in California. My imagination made her smiling and laughing. My imagination made us best friends again. I told myself I was talking with her spirit and she was talking with mine. Sweep the humanity (and that darn ego!) away, I said, because right now we are just souls. Talking. Laughing. Being friends as I remembered us.

I told her that I was sorry for how things ended, sorry for not trying harder to understand what she was going through, sorry that I was so caught up in my own early-adult drama that I forgot to be a good friend. Then I told Angie that I forgave her for every thing I was angry or hurt about when we last saw each other. We were both so young, dumb, and immature.

My imagination made Angie say that she forgave me. We laughed more, smiled more, and hugged a lot.

Then I let her go; thanked her for being there, thanked her for the conversation, and I released her. That was Wednesday night.

Angie called me on Thursday. She had received the letter I sent to her parent’s house about a week prior. During that call we laughed, talked, apologized, and forgave.

Your assignment is to think of someone you are out of touch with. Someone you need to or want to talk with again.  It can be someone who has passed on, a long lost friend, relative, whatever. Clear the air! Apologize and forgive. Say “hi- how are you?”. Get that hug you’ve always wanted or tell someone that secret you’ve been carrying for far too long.

Use your imagination to make this a positive experience. That is the key. Many times we have to cross through the pain to get back to happy so use the astral and the power of your mind to finally make the journey.

As for turning this in, you are welcomed to share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with. If you would rather keep this experience private, just turn in a small statement that the assignment has been complete. J No questions will be asked if that is how you prefer it.

Here is the basic formula to follow:

Go into a meditative state (don’t fall asleep for this one!)

Create the meeting room

Decorate it is you wish to so long as it is comfortable and happy

Astral Travel, Lesson 3

Alora September, 2010

Party at my place!

This may be one of the easiest assignments in this course! In the forums, under the “September Assignment” you will see a picture of a tree. This beautiful tree is located in my front yard. The assignment for this month is to meet me at this tree, via the astral realm.

On September 17, 18, and 19th, you are to stare at this picture before you go to sleep. When you close your eyes, see the tree right in front of you. Fall asleep seeing the tree and telling yourself that tonight you will meet me and the rest of the class at that tree. Do it for all three nights.

When you wake up that morning, write down EVERYTHING you dreamt of and experienced during the night. It is all relevant. That is important so I’ll repeat it again: it is ALL relevant. Don’t dismiss anything because you think you didn’t make it to the tree or fear you may have done something wrong. Write it all down, please.

Turn in those experiences to me and DO NOT SHARE what you experienced with the class yet. I will tell you when to do so. Anyone who posts their experiences in the forum will have their post deleted. I’m hardcore about this for a good reason….one that will be revealed later ;)

See? Easy. Good luck everyone and I look forward to seeing you there!

Astral Travel, Lesson 2

Alora August, 2010

The August Assignments

Astral Travel Class

Assignments:

Keep up your journals! Write down your dreams, experiences, fears, meditations, attempted travels. Write down your feelings, who made you angry, who made you sad, why yesterday was such a great day….and so on. Our waking, physical world is so busy that sometimes we only get the time to sort it all out in our dreams. If you can, make the connection: i.e. I had a dream where I was getting beat up. The day before my co-worker wrongly accused me of something and it felt like everyone took her side. I felt helpless and angry in both cases.

10 minute intentions: keep going. I know that it can seem like a real chore at times, but do it anyway. Remember that you are not asking for permission, you are telling yourself, your guides, your higher self, and the universe what is going to happen.

Guided Meditations-

Guided meditations and hypnosis can be one in the same. I’m not talking about the stand-up-on-stage-and-pretend-you-are-a-teapot showboat type of hypnosis, rather the kind that can help you quit smoking, lose weight, or astral travel. It quiets your conscious mind and opens a direct line to your subconscious mind.

Some guided meditations are meant to simply help you relax, where you use your imagination to see yourself on a beach or next to a fireplace with champagne and roses. Some guided meditations are created with a more specific purpose, just like with hypnosis. It can even be used as pain management.

The reason I had you research astral travel techniques in the last assignment was because I believe that the perfect astral travel technique is a guided meditation. This guided mediation is what I call “The Goldilocks Technique”, in other words it is just right for you.

How we find the meditation/technique that is just right for us is through trial and error. No doubt that when you were looking for techniques you came across one that sounded better than the others. Try it, if you haven’t already. Try the one you liked second best, then third best and so on. Analyze them—what did you like, what did you not like? What seemed to have a better effect on you? What didn’t seem to work at all? Some meditations are plain boring, while some are too complicated, too silly, and some just don’t work.

  • For my own Goldilocks Technique I have had to change some of the wording due to the circumstances I found myself in. There were times when my surroundings were too loud and times when I felt guilty for taking the time to meditate. Sometimes I feel that while I am trying to relax, the rest of the house is in danger. What if the animals get hurt and I’m not there to help them? What if a fire starts and I’m not there to put it out? What is someone calls with an important message? The truth is that we can make excuses all day for reasons not to try, so as part of my personal technique I have to calm all of these fears before I can relax.
  • Some techniques suggest you sit rather than lie down so that you don’t fall asleep. That has never worked for me because when I sit and meditate I get a nasty case of the “head-bobs” and relaxation is hard to maintain when your head is knocking your shoulder. Some suggest that you can only leave your body if you are lying on your back. That is not true for me, but maybe it is for you. I am more comfortable on my side so that works for me. What position are you most comfortable in? This key is this: if it works for you, then it is the exact right thing to do!
  • Some techniques poo-poo on falling asleep. Don’t worry about it. If you happen to fall asleep, jot down your dreams. Chances are that those dreams were actually traveling adventures! And if they weren’t, then a nice nap never hurt anyone and you can try again later. Stress and worry over falling asleep takes away the point of trying to fully relax.
  • William Buhlman suggests waking up in the morning, earlier than need be, and going to the bathroom and getting a drink of water. He warns about being too active. Just wake yourself up a little, then go back to sleep. This will induce a lovely half-awake half-asleep state of being that is perfect for leaving your body. For me this works great! But only on the weekends ;)
  • Comfort is key! I prefer to be covered with a sheet or blanket. Others prefer not to be covered at all. Use your eye mask, especially if you are trying your techniques during the day. Even the light from an alarm clock can be distracting. The mind will find any excuse not to succumb to full relaxation, so cover your eyes.

Create your own guided meditation, built around the sole purpose of helping you astral travel. Create this meditation based on a patchwork of the bits and parts of the techniques you researched, tried, and like. Discard what doesn’t work for you and keep the rest. Allow yourself to fall asleep after words, which will in turn allow your astral body to travel away from your relaxed body.

Submit the guided meditation as the August assignment.

Astral Travel, Lesson 1

Alora July, 2010

Astral Travel Course

July- Month 1

Instructor: Alora

Introduction:
Astral travel is when our consciousness/spirit/soul (whichever is the correct terminology for your beliefs) leaves our body. It is also known as astral projection, soul traveling, Out of Body Experience (OBE)….and so on. There are many names for this naturally occurring phenomenon and there are even more “tried and true” methods for leaving your body. Thanks to the World Wide Web, methods for astral travel are readily available to anyone who cares enough to type in “astral travel’ into any search engine.

With so many methods, books, websites, music, and even drugs out there, why aren’t more people masters of out of body experiences?

Astral travel is something we can all do and, in my opinion, something each and every one of us has done before. However, learning how to astral travel it isn’t as easy as “you do it like this—1, 2, 3 GO!”. If it was then everyone would be doing it. There is a good chance that something is blocking your efforts or maybe you just weren’t completely ready until now. This course will help remove those blocks and focus your efforts so that you can achieve astral travel success!

I do ask for your trust. You may come across an assignment that you don’t think is helpful or aimed at teaching you to leave your body. I’ve been working with OBE groups for about ten years now and have learned and experienced so much. As odd or misplaced as an assignment may seem to you, please put all of your efforts into doing it anyway, trusting that you were brought to this class for very specific reasons, determined by your own personal destiny.

So here we go!

Assignment #1—Ten Minute Intentions

Due: everyday

Instructions: For ten minutes, everyday, state your intentions to the universe (or preferred deity) and especially to yourself. Make your intentions clear and precise. Do NOT use words like “wish”, “perhaps”, “try”. You are NOT telling the universe what you want to be doing, you are telling the universe what you WILL be doing. You are not asking permission, you are stating a fact. You are preparing yourself and the energies around you for what is going to happen.

These ten minutes can take place while you are washing dishes, mowing the lawn, pulling weeds…any task really except watching television or reading because those activities require your mind to be elsewhere. Make sure to be diligent about the ten minutes—not 7 today, 11 tomorrow. 10 minutes every single day. Be repetitive.

I have given a suggested script below. Make the words your own. Change what doesn’t feel right to you, keep what does. Nobody around you has to hear you say this, so there is no need to feel silly or embarrassed. Keep it easy to remember and short enough that it can be said over and over again during the ten minutes.

“To the universe and to myself I state that I will master astral traveling. I will be completely safe and free from all harm. I will astral travel frequently at will, always returning to my body the moment I am ready.”

You may end with “so mote it be”, “amen”, “Namaste” or whatever sealing word you prefer at the end of the ten minutes.

Assignment #2—Find Three Astral Travel Methods

Due: July 15th

Instructions: Find three different astral travel methods. Briefly describe each one. Answer the following question: what are the common factors of all three methods?

« Prev
