Ceri Norman: Faerie Stones, An Explanation of the Folklore and Faeries Associated with Stones and Crystals

Ceri is a prolific writer, with several books under her belt and numerous magazine articles. This book, Faerie Stones, was mentioned by a friend and I was intrigued by the title and the concept. Faerie Stones takes a wide variety of stones and crystals and gives a great deal of information about each one, including but not limited to the deities and beings or spirits associated with them.

It’s worth noting that in this book the term faerie is used to cover a wide variety of beings including deities and spirits. I understand why Ceri has done this, as it makes it simpler to use one term to cover all the otherworldly beings. Normally I would be quite particular about the use of the term fairy or faerie due to my Celtic heritage, in which the fairies are less than friendly much of the time! However, in this volume Ceri makes it clear who and what she is talking about each time she mentions a specific deity or spirit, so it remains very clear what type of being is being discussed.

I love how each stone is brought to life and given a very organic feel. It’s as if each stone is a living part of the world, which greatly appeals to my druidic leanings. I also loved all the references to different types of ‘little people’, a fascination for me for many years.

Ceri covers stones from the tiniest crystal to huge standing circles, and her introduction and the first part of the book really show her enthusiasm and passion for her subject. Just reading her descriptions of standing stones and other places of power made me want to go out into the world and find these places for myself. You can’t help but be pulled along by the energy within the book, joyful and full of experience and knowledge.

The encyclopaedia section covers 26 stones and their correspondences and uses, and particularly the beings that are drawn to them. There’s a separate section on the different formations of quartz which I found particularly enlightening as it had not occurred to me that the different formations of quartz could have different effects on the world. Ceri also touches on the chakras and stones associated with them, auras, meditating with stones and crystals and a chakra balancing meditation with Morgan Le Fay. I appreciated very much that Ceri notes that beings such as Morgan have both light and dark sides.

This is one of those great books that can be read from cover to cover for sheer joy, and also kept as a point of reference. It will certainly be near the top of my kindle library for the foreseeable future.

Celebrating Autumn with Norma Clark of Forevrgoddess Boutique

September, 2018

Autumn Smudge Bundle with Gemstones

Hello, I’m Norma with Forevrgoddess Boutique, I wanted to share some info on Smudging herbs, gemstones and smudge rituals.  I don’t know about you, but the first day of September feels magickal, with apples and pumpkins abundantly everywhere.  I think it’s the perfect time to do an Autumn ritual smudging to cleanse home, sacred space or people, to remove negative or stale energy, banish and release emotions, illness, and other energy needing to be removed from home or person, to prepare for the coming of the Autumn Equinox & Samhain. You might have seen a few smudging herb bundles in new age stores, witch shops or online, there are many to choose from.

Smudging has been done in ancient cultures to Native American, in Spanish countries like Mexico, through Central and South America. Some of these herbs are used in smudging rituals by Shamans.  Some of these herbs can also be used in blessings, after ritual cleansings of homes or people. You can perform a blessing within a home  to invite harmony, love, laughter, tranquility, happiness and prosperity, or what ever is needed at the moment. For personal blessings you can do any of these ideas as well.

You can typically find in stores or online: White sage,  Juniper, cedar, Yerba Santa and Palo Santo. Any of these bundles of herbs can be helpful. Combining them with gemstones and crystals is an additional bonus and can help give healing/loving energy to aid with manifesting the properties you need most. I’m going to talk about a few of my  small smudge sets from Forevrgoddess Boutique, what they can do to help cleanse, rebalance and refocus energy to a positive and harmonious environment or how they can be used for personal blessings.

Small Autumn Smudge Blend

Here we have a beautiful mixture of Mexican cinnamon, Cloves, Cedar, Rose, Rosemary and White Sage. Very aromatic smell. Here’s a information on a few herbs we use for our Autumn blend.

Red Roses: Love, respect, beauty, courage, passion, romantic love, blessings, attract, banish, consecrate/bless, devotion, happiness, harmony.

Palo Santo (or Holy wood): from Ecuador forests, Palo Santo – Shaman have used it to clear energy, and positive energy. To reestablish peace, balance enhance focus to meditation, heals people physical and spiritual level.

Cedar: Calming, comforting, purify, protection, healing, harmony, prosperity, abundance, cleansing, helps focus on goals and meditation.

Mexican Cinnamon: Brought from Mexico to USA. – actions, attraction, inner balance, dream work, harmony, healing, attract luck, peace, passion, protection, wishes, consecrate/blessings.

Our Small Smudge Set is portable, you can do a quick smudge ritual anywhere. The Small Smudge Set is in a little tin box (we’ll provide ritual at bottom of this article). You can either burn them together or separately.  If you decide you want it to be stronger then make a bigger flame.  You can  always break the smudge blend into little burnable pieces and use a small abalone shell to burn it in. (We carry various abalone shell in boutique in 2 sizes.) If you wish to get a little smell burn small bit of each, cinnamon, cloves, rose, and rosemary with a bit of sage. The choice is yours.

Autumn Gemstones

We selected these from our Wiccan Magickal Sabbat Mabon and Samhain box sets.  With autumn equinox coming soon, seasons are changing for fall. It’s the time of balance between day and night, before night takes over and brings winter.

Here are the Stones for Autumn:

Citrine: Stone of happiness, positive energy and thought mental clarity, abundance, healing, uplifting.

Carnelian: Motivation, calm emotions, banishes negative emotions, replaces with love.

Smoky Quartz: Dispel negative energy, protection, grounding, transformation, brings calm.

Tiger eye: Stone of wealth, protection, self-confidence, balance, grounding.

When charging or programming your gemstone, keep in mind the goal or desire you wish to bring into your life. Help manifest this desire to life, say a prayer to your deity, angels, or elemental, ask for their support to bless this new path you wish to journey on. Keep them in your pocket, purse or coin purse as a reminder of what healing qualities you wish to be blessed with at the moment.

Gemstone Selenite: ( Don’t rinse in water or leave in sun) quickly unblocks stagnant energy and removes negative energy. It magnifies the energy of any other gemstone that’s placed upon it. Combine selenite with black tourmaline. It will protect home and clear any negative energy, and help in protection crystal grids. Expands awareness opens psychic abilities.  Brings mental clarity and deep peace. Helps with angelic guidance.

Relieves anxiety frustration and boosts self-worth. Great for memory, this stone helps when depressed or deep despair, luck, money, protection, strength, willpower.

Cleansing Stones

Cleanse each gemstone with smudging blend burning in shell, to ensure it’s a positive energy to help with your goal you wish to create. It’s to ensure the gemstones, which have passed through so many hands, to get to you at home, are cleaned of other’s energies that might not fit in. Hold stone in hand take shell and pass it over and under stone to encase it with smoke.

Arranging Gemstones

Once stones are cleansed, set up an area where your stones will be seen through the day (altar, mantel, etc..) arrange stones however you wish. I suggest to put selenite in middle and surround other stones around the selenite so the selenite will energize the other stones. Like a mini crystal grid. If you have more stones, flowers, candles feel free to add them, to help further the goal you have in mind.

Interview with the Author of We Are Magical Beings, Paola Collazos

July, 2018

Interview with Paola Collazos

Paola Collazos is a Reiki master, energy medicine practitioner and a licensed massage therapist. She is also the author of “We Are Magical Beings”. I had the chance to not only review the book, but also talk with Paola recently.

Deanna-In your book, We Are Magical Beings, you share the hardships that came with your childhood. You seem to have blossomed from that childhood once you found energy work. What would you say to your younger self?

Paola-To my younger self I would say I promise to nurture you and keep life light- hearted and fun.

D-Do you believe you would be where you are now, if you had experienced a different childhood?

P-I would for sure be somewhere else had my childhood been different. Our early experiences shape our personalities and decisions profoundly. But I wouldn’t trade my childhood, it was filled with lessons and I love myself the way I am today.

D-In today’s world, we are seeing a lot of high profile celebrities who have depression that are committing suicide.

What would you recommend to someone that is dealing with depression?

P-The thing about depression is that you have to catch yourself before you fall, and for that to happen one has to choose to be aware of the triggers way before you catch yourself falling.

BUT before wrapping your mind around that last statement, one must accept, and absolutely know within themselves that they are not alone, 44,965 Americans die by Suicide each year. The numbers show it, you are not alone. Even, I, with all the tools, experience lows sometimes.

Eliminate self-judgment and get to know your triggers, avoid them at all costs by keeping busy, work hard, volunteer, exercise, take walks, see friends, perhaps get a pet and breathe. I believe that breath is the closest thing to unconditional love. Oxygen is always there for you. Love yourself by taking deep breaths. Allowing the exhale to be longer than the inhale calms the nervous system by activating the vagus nerve which sends a signal to the brain telling it to hike up the parasympathetic nervous system and turn down the sympathetic nervous system. The parasympathetic NS controls our rest and digest. It lowers our blood pressure and heart (this is an amazing natural effect of the human body. )

If you need to take medication then do so without judgments but do the self-work. Watch your self-talk.

Eliminate self-judgment and get to know your triggers, avoid them at all costs by keeping busy, work hard, volunteer, exercise, take walks, see friends, perhaps get a pet and breathe. Repeat, every day, and in every moment, that you can remember.

D-During your first Reiki session, you describe an emotional session that seemed to be a turning point for you. Do you feel that you would have reacted the same if the woman had not started crying?

P-I do. I feel that if the woman had not started to cry I may have been more open to energy the first time around. I have learned that with energy work people tend to be skeptical or perceive it as mumbo-jumbo therefore it is vital for the practitioner to be clear, professional and as informative as possible.

D-This book is packed with information on tuning into the energy that we are. For someone who might get overwhelmed easily, where would you recommend getting started?

P-They should find a comfortable quiet space, lay down, close their eyes and notice their breath, then they should notice their heart beating. Tune in to the simple things in life. Revel in the mastery of the human anatomy.

D-During this journey you went through a natural detoxing where your body’s chemistry started changing. You had a difficult time finding a deodorant that worked and you stopped enjoying the taste of meat. In your experience, is this natural detoxing a normal part of the journey for everyone when doing energy work?

P-This varies by person. It is different for everyone. One can even experience this natural detoxing by merely starting a yoga practice. So yes, it is a normal part of the journey.

D-After getting your Level One Reiki Certification, you waited a year before getting your Level Two. Would you recommend this same wait time for someone who is interested in obtaining Reiki Certifications?

P-Yes, I believe that one should take the time after level one to heal themselves before they start trying to help others however some people get both attunements and even the third all in one weekend. I’ve also heard of Masters not passing on the second attunement until years after the first.

For me, it depends on the student but I would encourage some time to explore their own chakras after the first level. There is a lot to explore within oneself and things start to shift. So, you want to be respectful and allow yourself the time to process.

D-Also, after waiting a year, were you able to obtain the Level Two Reiki Certification with the same Reiki Master that certified you as a Level One Reiki?

P-The First Reiki Master did my second level. The level three was done by someone else years later.

D-For someone who is serious about learning all there is to know about energy work, would it be more beneficial to study one area of energy work (Reiki) before moving on to something else? Or can different areas of energy work be studied and used at the same time?

P-Yes, they can be studied at the same time but it also depends on the person and their learning style. It also depends on what they are planning to do with the information. Are they curious for their own healing or if they would like to teach/work on others?

The energy systems are the same all across the board what changes are the ways in which the individual chooses to tap into the energies to keep them settled. One can get started with learning about chakras without having to get Reiki attunements however it does not hurt. It will certainly give you a boost.

When I got my first attunement the master provided me with a lot of information that I wouldn’t have known by merely researching chakras. Like that KAVA tea has spirit unifying properties and that it would help me with lucid dreaming. Once you get started with energy work things will unfold and one thing will lead to the other.

The Meridians or (energy channels) and five element theories are a little more complicated to understand and to apply and I only delved into that in massage therapy school however I do not think it is impossible to grasp. I tried my best to simplify these concepts in my book because I do believe it is necessary to understand. Think of the chakras as the Macro and the Meridians as the micro. Chakras governs the muscles, organs, veins, and ligaments within the chakra’s vicinity. They are super busy hubs of energy that receive and give out information. They also contain information about your life’s journey while the meridians are energy pathways that pertain to one specific organ.

And yes they can be used at the same time.

D-‘We Are Magical Beings’ contains many different areas of energy work. Out of Reiki, Meridians, Chakras, Auras, Yin and Yang, Elements, Centering, Inner Child and Visualizations; do you have a favorite energy work?

P-Picking one is hard because they are so intertwined. I do love visualizations and I think that visualizing and or tapping into the imagination is crucial for all of this work. So, visualizations are my favorite.

D-One of the quotes from the book is “There is perfection in imperfection!” This is very powerful. In today’s world it seems that we are constantly chasing perfection. This quote feels as if it is giving us permission to be who we are without worrying about perfection. Did you find it freeing once you rid the notion of being perfect?

P-Yes, allow yourself to be imperfect. Try your best but be clear about your process. Be mindful that you are not using this idea of perfection to procrastinate and not proceed with what you want. Remember the mind would much rather be safe in its routines so it will always convince you that you are not there yet.

It was freeing for me because I allow myself to have fun and try new things. I’ve heard so many people say they won’t try new things because they are not “good” at it. Allowing yourself to be imperfect is very freeing.

We Are Magical Beings: A Healing Guide for Earthlings

Book Review: We Are Magical Beings by Paola Collazos, LMT

Book Review

We Are Magical Beings: A Healing Guide for Earthlings

by Paola Collazos, LMT

We Are Magical Beings is a book written by Paola Collazos, LMT. It is published by Balboa Press, a division of Hay House. Paola Collazos is a Reiki master, energy medicine practitioner, a licensed massage therapist and now, a published author.

We Are Magical Beings takes us on a magical journey. First through Paola’s life and then through the journey of energy work.

While this book is not an autobiography, we get a glimpse into Paola’s life starting with her childhood. We see how situations and experiences can shape a person and affect, not only their life, but also, their energy. This made me rethink my life, the situations, and experiences that I have been through. I can see how life has shaped me into the being that I am today. But I am a magical being, that can change the energy that is going on in my life.

The body is a wise self-healing structure”. We Are Magical Beings goes over numerous different areas of energy work. Paola not only explains the different areas of energy work but she goes into detail on how you can incorporate these practices into your daily life. Some of these areas of energy work are chakras, meridians, auras, yin and yang, along with the elements.

Paola explains why it is so important to treat our bodies like a temple and to keep our thoughts pure. “I am talking about the wars that exist within our minds, the ones that some fight with every day in order to get by with ease”. This statement helped me realize that I am not the only one who battles with their thoughts. It also makes me (and anyone who reads this book) realize that we can change this mindset!

Paola is able to explain how the body and energy work together. She explains this not only in Yin and Yang but also in the meridians and the elements. It’s amazing to read how these energy systems control the different areas of the body. She also explains how we can use our thoughts and yoga poses to put these areas back into balance.

One of my favorite chapters talks about the perfection that comes with imperfection. I have dealt with anxiety my whole life. I have always been a perfectionist and when I cannot reach it, I suffer mentally. I was amazed to see that the imperfections in my life are truly perfection. “Believe in yourself, have fun, and don’t be so hard on yourself”. This statement has helped me release some of the anxiety. For once, I am able to live without worrying about being perfect.

I shared this book with my skeptical mom. By the end of the book, she was asking for more reading material on this subject. Not only did this book help her see a new way of living but she has been able to incorporate energy work into her daily life. Her health has been improving and I truly believe that “We Are Magical Beings” started it all.

I would encourage anyone who is curious about energy work to pick up this book. Give it a read, practice the exercises and incorporate the energy work into your daily life.

A Moment for Meditation

May, 2015

The Chakras
The past few months, we have been talking about meditation, it’s benefits, the why’s, where-for’s and how-to’s.

In Kundalini Yoga, the yoga that I teach, we move toward systematically raising heat and energy through our bodies and up our spines through use of the chakras. The word “chakra” means “wheel” in Sanskrit and are the energy centers within your body. These chakras can be blocked by long-held stresses, tensions and other factors. Meditation is key in helping to release these blocks.
When working with the chakras, it is important to stay grounded and centered. To start always do a grounding exercise, such as the following:

**“Stand up, grip toes to the ground, long deep breathing, visualize your roots going deep into Mother Earth, keeping you grounded and centered. Inhale and bring the earth energy up to the base of your spine, exhale and let the energy return to the earth.” (**From my Three Hour Chakra Workshop)

chakra

If you have a grounding exercise that you prefer, then by all means, please do that one.
Over the next few weeks, I will discuss each chakra in detail, with meditation suggestions and ideas, but this month will be an overview of the main eight (most traditions will say seven, but within Kundalini, we count the aura as the eighth chakra).

Muladhara – Root Chakra – Support, Survival, Security

Svadisthana – Sacral Chakra – Sexuality, Sensuality, Emotions, Creativity

Manipura – Naval Center Chakra- Power, Will, Energyg

Anahata – Heart Chakra – Love, Compassion, Nurturing, Balance

Visuddha – Throat Chakra – Communication, Truth

Ajna – Third Eye/Brow Chakra – Intuition, Knowledge, Clarity

Sahasrara – Crown Chakra – Enlightenment, Unity

aura

Aura – The Magnetic Field That Surrounds Your Body – Protection, Projection, Spiritual Love and Compassion

Until next month, I wish you love and happiness.

Auras

How to see the aura
Mental aura reading is a relatively rare skill to come across in a person. You need to learn not only how to see the aura but also how to interpret what is is that you see.
While aura photography does exist it is met with much skepticism and does not replace your own personal intuition.

Anyone can learn to see and read auras. The best way to begin is with people who are close to you whose personalities and histories you are familiar with. Not only are you already familiar with their energy, knowing their history and personality will help you interpret your findings.

Begin with a sketchpad, colored pencils or oil pastels, and a dimly lit room. The dim room is important to avoid the auras your eyes naturally see after looking at a bright light. Set up safe space. Try lighting a candle or saying a prayer.
Start with your own hand. The hands and head radiate the most energy from the body and thus are easiest to see.* Hold it slightly above an off white piece of paper and let your eyes and mind relax. Try to find a place where you can be uninterrupted. If you wish, try meditating, smudging, lighting incense, or practicing yoga before beginning. The clearer your mind is the easier this will be.  The first thing you may notice is something that looks like heat waves, but instead of rising they may radiate from your fingertips. This is generally the spirit layer that is seen first. Your spirit or soul is the core of your energy. We will talk more about this later.
Continue to practice this exercise. Take notes upon finishing. Note observations such as how far the aura extended from your hand, any colors, was it translucent or opaque, did it move and shift or was it stAtionary, etc. As you practice, try seeing if you can will the aura to shift, change colors, grow, or shrink.
All living things have auras. Next try using your favorite houseplant. Its aura will not be as strong as a humans but should still be visible to you. In the dim room, place the plant on a table with a neutral colored sheet or wall as a backdrop. Relax your eyes and mind as you have with the hand exercise.
When writing notes try to note not only what you see, but what other impressions you get from your subject. Is the plant healthy? Vibrant? Dying? Your intuitive sense is every bit as important as what you see with your eyes.
At some point in your practice you may begin to see colors of auras, not just the waves of energy.
Take your sketchbook and draw the aura you see around the plant.

Some people may never see more than just the “heat waves”, others may go as far to see all three layers as well as sparkles, shapes, and gain an intuitive sense to what these visions mean.
As you gain ability and confidence move onto the aforementioned family member or friend. Have them sit in the dimmed room and safe space with the neutral wall or sheet behind them. Start by focusing only on their head. The head contains the crown, third eye, and throat chakras. First note and draw if you see these. Are they open? (bright and glowing, proper color) are they closed or dim? Write this all down. Then, extend your focus slightly above and past their head. Let your eyes relax. The aura will appear around them. Try this time to focus first on their physical being. Is your friend healthy? Do they have headaches or sinus problems? Note or draw what you see or feel.
Next attempt to focus on their emotional/mind aura.
What do you see? Are they happy?sad? Angry? In love? Continue o draw and note what you see or feel.
Lastly we will be looking at the spirit layer. This should e the strongest, largest, and easiest to see.
When you are finished with your drawings and notes, show them to your subject. Ask questions about your accuracy and see if your interpretation feels correct to them. How do the react to it? Are they surprised by what they see? Sometimes these readings bring up issues your subject was unaware of.
If you choose to pursue aura reading as a profession of can often help to have some counseling experience as well in order to help your clients process the information you give them. You can easily obtain (often free) training at a local crisis center.

*in fact there is a theory that this is why people have  traditionally painted halos over saints and angels in historical art pieces. Persons who are very pure tend to have a white aura, strongest at the head.
