So we know a little about what they offer and we have a coupon in hand, but is it Worth this Witch? Let’s dig in, shall we???

The First Impressions…The Box

A very lovely, compact box comes in the mail. I honestly found it to be smaller than most boxes I have reviewed in the past. I wondered if it would only contain small samples of a few items inside.

They had me at Rebellious Act…

What a way to open a box, with the bang of a positive quote! What girl does not like to be a little rebel and who shouldn’t like themselves a bit more? Turn that badboy postcard over and boom you are hit with 12 coupons for companies found in the box and working with Goodbeing. This is looking like a little box of positive to me so far.

Get Out Your Deck of Info Cards

I learned, it helps, if you empty the box, get to the bottom, and find this handy little deck of Info Cards. Each product has a corresponding card. Information is on the cards like; the companies name, website, social media, ingredients in product, instructions on use, price, and so much more!

Fred and Far

Your first gift in your box is an inspiring card from Fred and Far called a More & Less Manifesto Greeting Card. It is blank inside so you can personalize your message when you send it or keep it for yourself and hang on your mirror or fridge as a reminder for your self.

With your card comes a love yourself movement pin. The Trillion Pin features Fred and Far’s signature Trillion shape, which draws out the power of the sacred feminine. This adorable, girly pin reminds us to love and care for ourselves on a daily basis.

The worth of these items combined is listed on it’s information card as $14. We will keep a running tab to see how much this box is worth in the end!

Box of Chocolates

I love dark chocolate, it is my favorite type. This was a great treat to find in the box. When tasting it you have to get over that initial kick of bitter that comes in after a few seconds. Because at first it is just sweet. You get so distracted for a moment by the bitterness that you forget it’s sugary, as well. But then that bitterness kind of blends into the sweetness, and you are addicted. You have to be a real fan of dark chocolate to enjoy this.

Their idea for an easy to open wrapper is innovative. You get three,  generous, nice size pieces in the box.

On the box there are few details on the chemical make-up of the chocolate. They do not explain in detail what the chemicals contained in the bars do. However, if you go on the website listed on it’s product card, you will find out that the chocolate actually is beneficial to you health. The site states:

Polyphenols are crucial ingredients of foods known for their nutritional and strong antioxidant benefits, particularly present in fruits and vegetables. ReChoc has been tested by Cambridge scientists in human studies that confirmed:

  • Unmatched bioavailability and bioactivity levels of polyphenols
  • Supports cardiovascular health
  • Promotes healthy blood glucose levels
  • Contains anti-inflammatory properties
  • Reduces oxidative stress (the main cause of aging)
  • Supports mitochondrial metabolism or “muscle repair” “

The chocolates are priced at $24.95 for a box of 20. This makes our Sample 3 about $3.75 for the Box.

Z Skin Age Extreme Moisturizer

This product was one of the items you got to choose for your box. I am always looking for new creams and lotions for my face because I tend to break out from them. I, also, have a condition that gives me very dry skin. It can be difficult for me to find creams or lotions that don’t give me pimples, rashes, or that my skin just drinks in still leaving behind flakes of dry skin.

I was pleasantly surprised by Z Skin. A semi-thick moisturizer that is 100% organic. I applied a generous amount onto my face and not a single rash, pimple, or blemish!! Instead, nice feeling, smooth skin. I do have to get used to the herbal smell of it. The clove is a little overwhelming to me, but only because it has never been one of my favorite scents. But so worth it.

When reading the information card that comes along with Z Skin I learned that the moisturizer is ideal for eczema, psoriasis, acne and wrinkles. It also contains SPF 15.

This was a great choice on my part!

The tube we were sent is priced at $19.

ellovi

Made with wild harvested ingredients, vegan, and mint chocolate flavored Lip Butter by ellovi. SPF 5. Ellovi is made of a blend of 6 of the most pure and nutritional ingredients on the planet – mango, coconut, sunflower, shea, & 2 parts of cacao (the oil & the butter). One tube can keep your lips hydrated for months.

You open the tube and you are hit by the scent of delicious mint chocolate chip ice cream. Sometimes a chapstick, a lip gloss, or any lip cover can feel to vasoliney. Some feel to waxy, or clump up, but this one doesn’t. It stays smooth on the lip and feels soothing. It tastes great, too.  My sister was kind enough to test this product out for us.

This product is valued at $5.

Curandera Remedies

MySore herbal salve, by Curandera Remedies, came in a 1 oz container.   It is a mixture of essential oils that are to provide relief to tired and achy muscles, arthritis pain, or daily strain. It was originally developed for those students who push their bodies to the limit doing a style of yoga called Mysore. The back of the label gives more information on the salves origin and ingredients. It also gives some other good to know facts like it is Fair Trade, Vegan, Organic, and more.

Simple enough to use, you apply it to your sore areas. It feels a bit waxy and has a menthol smell to it. A bit intense like Tiger Balm. As I had no aches and pains at the moment, I handed it over to my Brother-in-Law, who is full of them constantly, on his feet all the time. Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough of the balm to go around and it wasn’t strong enough to work on his problems. He said there was very minor relief, but that was for his intensity of pain and arthritis and as I have stated, his is large and the tin was small. He may have had to use it more frequently.

This product usually sells in 2 oz tins for $15. So ours is worth $7.50.

Airbiotics

Now this box holds a lot of clean in one little package. Its a Probiotic cleaning travel set Plus a 5 mL all purpose cleaner concentrate. It includes a samples of Airbiotics Probiotic Hand Cleaner, Stabiotic Mist & Probiotic All Purpose Cleaner Concentrate. They have covered all your cleaning needs with these three; Your hygiene, freshening up the air, fabric, linens, and your entire home! They use non-toxic ingredients, no harsh chemicals, or artificial scents and they are safe for pets and children.

These products came at a great time, as my sister had just had a newborn. no greater time to test them. They lived up to what they claimed. We freshened, perked, and cleaned galore with them and they did their job. Frequently. No sick baby or anyone.

Value of products provided $20.63.

My Over All Impression…

Goodbeing is fantastic. It Pampers, it Pleases, It even Compliments you! And … it gives you chocolates!! You get to choose up to 2 items of your choice, then the rest are surprises. Everything that was included in the box was of spectacular quality. If you do not believe me, you can ask my sister who will not put her new Lip Butter down, it is that soothing. But do they live up to their average value of $45 – $65 a month? OK time to do the math…

Fred & Far $14

Chocolates $3.75

Moisturizer $19

Lip Butter $5

Mysore Salve $7.50

Airbiotics $20.63

TOTAL: $69.88

This box has actually gone above what they estimate their boxes to cost and I am not surprised. The sizes of “samples” and the quality. This is a REAL DEAL!! I myself and going to be sure to check each and every month for the special gift offers they have and use this month’s special readers coupon code: GOODOFFER for a BONUS SAMPLE in your first Standard Goodbeing box! May not be combined with other offers. Not applicable to existing Personal or Gift Memberships. Offer valid while supplies last.

Goodbeing is DEFINITELY Worth the Witch!!

The Love of Chocolate

Dark and delicious, almost everyone loves chocolate. This little bean is not only tasty but also quite magickal. It has a long history of use throughout several countries and cultures.

Chocolate is made from the seeds of the cacao tree, discovered over 3,000 years ago in the rain forests of Central America. Originally it was used as an alcoholic beverage. Prized by Ancient Mayan societies, Chocolate from the very beginning was an integral part of rites and rituals. The Mayans has uncovered a way to cultivate the beans. Next they dried, roasted and ground them into a paste. This was then combined with chili peppers and cornmeal to make a strong beverage. This ritual drink was used for everything from initiations to burial rites.

The invasion of Mexico by the Spanish brought chocolate to Europe. There it was prized as a beverage of wealth and power. It was reserved for the elite as a supreme delicacy.

Even if you’re not a magickal person it is easy to see how chocolate is a sensual delight. It’s smell, texture and touch lend themselves to passion. Because of this chocolate is a wonderful ingredient to use in your love spells and workings.

In my book Love Magic, I talk about combining two great aphrodisiac ingredients, chocolate and strawberries. “Strawberries are one of the many plants ruled by Venus. This recipe blends two great romantic pleasures—both strawberries and chocolate—to conjure up some sweet romance.” Craft this recipe witch care and magickal intent and you will be able to manifest your desires.

Chocolate Dipped Strawberries Recipe

1 pound strawberries, washed and dried
2 Tbs. butter
8 ounces bittersweet chocolate (chunks or chips)

To make dipping easier, leave the leaves on your strawberries. Melt butter and chocolate in a double boiler. Dip strawberries one at a time into melted chocolate. Cool in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes. Enjoy with your love.

She Who is all – The Goddess of Ten Thousand Names

Ixcacau

In honor of Valentine’s Day and the exorbitant amount of chocolate that is given as gifts, this month we honor Ixcacau, the Mayan Goddess of Chocolate and Cocoa (the word “cocoa” comes from Her name).

Ixcacau was a symbol of strength. She was one of the Ancient Fertility Goddesses, a Goddess of the Earth, a Goddess of Abundance. Hunger was banished as She took responsibility to feed Her people. Her people never feared under her protection.

She was also worshipped in Central and South Americas, and for the Azteccs, She was Xochiquetzal, Goddess of Fertility, Flowers and Fruit.

There are several stories of Her that stand out in the Mayan legends.

Long ago, the Grandmother Goddess, Ixmucane was raising her grandchildren, as so many grandparents do. Her sons had been killed during a journey to the Underworld. I know not why they went to the Underworld in the first place. Ixmucane was a Seer; knowing the ways of the Earth. She was concerned as to what might happen when she and her grandchildren died out; what would happen to the Earth?

A young woman came to her, saying that she was pregnant with the child of one of Ixmucane’s sons. This woman told Ixcumane that her father was lord of the Underworld and she had shamed him by getting with child; she was banished.

As Ixcumane questioned this story, She set forth to test the young woman by telling her to go to the field and fill a large net with food. The young woman set out only to find that only one corn plant was growing. She began to pray,

Ixcenil, Goddess of Seed, hear me

Ixtoq, Goddess of Rain, help me

Ixcacau, Goddess of Chocolate, see my tears

and come to my aid”

She received the seed from Ixcenil. Ixcacau taught the young woman how to plant and harvest each crop. She stayed to stand guard until all the plants had reached fruition, with the help of Ixtoq, Goddess of Rain.

The young woman returned to the home of Ixcumane and was welcomed into Her family.

As the peaceful matriarchal societies were conquered and overthrown by the violent patriarchal ones and the Goddesses were replaced or taken by the Gods, Ixcacau was forced to become the wife of the God of Commerce and watch as her cocoa beans became the money of the day. She then witnessed as her beloved chocolate was taken away from the people and given to only rulers and warriors, as it was now only “food fit for the gods”.

Annually, one of the people was offered for ritual sacrifice as part of the new sacred rites to the Sun God. Ixcacau offered her presence to this young man, staying by him, giving him goblets of liquid chocolate, as it was originally taken in a liquid form, for strength and giving him what comfort She could, She herself wishing that there was not a need for human sacrifice.

One day, Ixcacau was visited by Huicato, the Goddess of Love. She was concerned because there was no more pleasure in the life of the people, no more dancing in the fields, which angered the Sun Gods. Under patriarchal rule, they were working harder than ever and receiving nothing in return. The ruling class cared nothing for the people and their labors.

Huicato requested that Ixcacau do something; and, so She did. She taught the kings how to ferment the cocoa into wine to make it a heady aphrodisiac.

The kings became gluttonous, drinking huge amounts of this wine to give them energy for their harems, and strength for the petty wars with other kingdoms. No one seemed to be paying much attention to the Earth and her people. The land became a place of war, and the men conscripted to become its’ warriors.

One of the ancient gods, who had sacrificed himself for the people returned in human form and sacrificed himself again, banishing human sacrifice.

The fields began to flourish once again. Huicato was pleased with what Ixcacau had done and covered her in white flowers, as She returned to the fields, where the people once again danced.

She directed Her people to always take the time to slow down, rest from their labors, spend time with their loved ones, listen to music, dance, and most of all, take the time for Love, and so, Ixcacau became not only a Goddess of Fertility and Abundance, but one of love and pleasure.

Ixcacau reminds Her people, and us now, to slow down. We must take the time to rest, refresh and renew ourselves. We should appreciate the beauty that surrounds us. We should experience bliss in all it’s forms; rather like that feeling when eating a piece of chocolate – Ahh, Bliss!

Bright Blessings & Love!

Triple chocolate – the healthy way before Yule

The centerpiece of my Yule table is definitely chocolate. No turkey or ham, it´s chocolate! While it is still a good three weeks until the occasion, my mind is already set on the treat.

Instead of chowing down bucket loads of pralines a month prior to Yule, I have found a few ways to calm my ever-aching chocolate tooth. Ways that benefit both my taste buds and my nutrient-craving body.

The following three raw recipes all include cocoa, and help curb my appetite for the “real deal” until Yule evening.

Pear

Chocolate on Pears (serves 1):

2 ripe pears, peeled, halved and deseeded
2 Tbsp coconut oil
ground vanilla
2-4 tsp cacao nibs
2-4 tsp agave syrup

+ Place the pear halves on a serving plate and spread coconut oil on them. (In my house the temperature sets just below the melting point, so I simply use it like butter.) Sprinkle with vanilla and cacao nibs, and top everything off with agave syrup.
I like to eat mine with a fork and knife. I can have this for breakfast, snack, or supper. It always satisfies my taste buds.
Icecream
Chocolate Ice Cream (serves 1):

2 bananas, frozen in big chunks
2 dates
1 Tbsp cocoa powder
vanilla

+ Place everything in a food processor and run until completely smooth. It takes a while before the banana softens enough to become smooth, but it´ll get there.
Serve from a nice bowl and decorate with mulberries or cacao nibs to give a bit of chunkiness.
cookie
Chocolate-Coconut Cookies (serves 1):

2 Tbsp coconut oil
2 tsp honey
1 tsp cocoa powder
1/3 cup dried coconut flakes (or enough to form a dough)
pinch of salt
pinch of ginger
pinch of vanilla
pinch of cinnamon
(pinch of cayenne, optional)
raisins for decorating

+ Melt the coconut oil, then add the other ingredients (except raisins) and mix well. Form a large flat cookie on parchment paper and stick raisins on top. Place in refrigerator for about 30min, or until the oil hardens keeping the cookie together.

Enjoying chocolate like this does more than satisfies sweet cravings. It meets nutritional needs too, and my body actually tells me when it´s had enough. After eating the whole package of “usual” ice cream or chocolate etc. I always am left craving for more. That does not happen here, and it feels amazing!
Here are some nutritional facts about the ingredients used:
– banana: helps maintaining normal blood pressure, heart function, and promotes bone health.
– coconut: helps build muscle bulk, cures sore throats, helps diabetes by protecting against “insulin resistance”, helps skin problems, and produces great skin.
– dates: lowers undesirable LDL cholesterol, provides long lasting and even-burning fuel to the body, and can help cut the risk of stroke.
– honey: contains antioxidants which can help fight off free radicals that contribute to many serious diseases, is helpful against allergies, hay fever, and insomnia, and aids water retention.
– pears: are a great natural remedy for high cholesterol, are a hypoallergenic fruit (are less likely to cause allergic reactions), and are a great source of fiber.
– vanilla: helps in enzyme synthesis, nervous system function, and regulation of the body´s metabolism.
(Nutritional info is from Victoria Boutenko´s book “The Green Smoothie Prescription“.)
  Happy and tasty Yule y´all!
