Lunar Eclipse and Blood Moon 27 July 2018

My dear friend Susan Rossi who is a gifted astrologer (https://openchannelastrology.com/) has taught me to pay close attention to eclipses and the, so called, annual Eclipse Season. She tells me that eclipses act as gates or portals for human consciousness we can pass through. If we handle the challenges right we can even unhook from “karmic theatre” – meaning that we can put long-standing dysfunctional dynamics between us and others to rest. Easier said than done, but when we achieve it there is instant relief and head space.

In November last year I discovered some cysts in my breast which opened a period of medical investigations married to deep inner work on Mother Issues:

  • Myself as both mother and “shadow mother” of three teenage sons, parenting with great delight all my personal imperfections
  • My real life Mother and my Inner Mother (the magical place within where I can mother myself because I am a grown-up now!)
  • My Mother-In-Law and life-giver of my husband
  • People who have reached out to me in maternal ways during my lifetime. (Women who have nourished my soul and afforded me shelter under their wing when I needed it – I am eternally grateful to them all!)

As a family we plan our summer around our children’s school holiday. We did not consult an astrologer but nevertheless we were at my mother’s house in the Netherlands the day the July 12th eclipse occurred and my mother-in-law was here with us in Sweden for last night ‘s lunar eclipse and Blood Moon.

You cannot make that up!!

Anyway, I decided to walk through these Eclipse Gates intuitively. It is tempting to read other people’s interpretations and astrological interpretations as there is a myriad of on-line articles just one click of the mouse away.

Here in Sweden forest fires rage and everyone is praying for rain. Last night’s eclipse brought that rain!! Actually it started raining the exact moment I started writing this article! I performed an informal rain dance, naked in the forest, at 4 a.m. this morning and a passing wild boar family grunted at me. One bat nearly landed on my head. – I must have done something right…

We took my mother-in-law for an outing on the lake in the early evening (this involved requesting permission from the local castle and land owner to use their jetty – and permission was granted!)

The first sign of the eclipse was a most peculiar cloud appearing over the lake. Our whole family collectively shifted into an altered state of consciousness.

This was followed by some sightings of a beaver swimming alongside our boat.

A few hours later the Blood Moon rose: hard to spot, the palest orange outline against a metal blue Scandinavian sky. All photographs of it failed. They just show darkness – as (I guess) the Moon wants them too. (I do not want to be photographed either when I disrobe and step away from prying eyes).

The next stage of the eclipse process looked like a red horse shoe birthing a new galaxy – or possibly an embryo gestating in deep sacred darkness:

This article will now continue in the form of photographs and poems as I do not yet have access to mainstream linear words for the Lunar Eclipse that occurred within me.

The Queen of Blood

In one eclipse vision

I meet

The Queen of Blood and Lineage

Seated on her throne

Within me

She hands me her star-spangled cape

Says

Time to stop wearing

The Midnight Sun!

Stir the cauldron

That is the eclipsed Moon

Make the Night Sky your altar cloth

The Big Dipper your ladle

Remember the woman in the supermarket

Who had

The Milky Way

The Winter Street

Tattooed on her back?

You are She!!

You are the mother bear

Whose spine is the Milky Way

As she walks The Winter Street

And leads the way through Darknesses

So it is safe

For the Moon to return

Another day

When I die

Wrap me in tonight’s sky

Let the Morning Sun

Burn me in a watery blaze

The Eclipsed Moon

Is my Home

I am

And I am not

Simultaneously

Eternally

This phase was followed by the tiniest crescent of reflected sunlight returning.

As this crescent expanded and we saw all phases of the Moon in one evening: a true once-a-century spectacle!

Next planet Mars, at his closest point to Earth and fiery red, rose over the tree tops (I was observing all this from a forest by the Baltic Sea).

I meditated on all the occasions when I had felt eclipsed –

and/or played my part eclipsing others:

Eclipsed

During this

Total lunar eclipse

I no longer feel eclipsed

by people

I gave too much power

They stood with me

As a male wolf-serpent ate the Moon

And a female serpent-wolf called Blame

Unwound from my heart

She joined the Great Wolf in the Sky

Where she swallowed some stars

But soon vomited up even more stars

My pain, my fear,

My attachment to that old self

Now twinkle overhead

In the neighbourhood of the Pole Star

Next Mars rises

The colour of pulsing rage

As he did so

Three gunshots were heard

In the deep dark forest

They killed a phantom

The Old Me

As a crescent of light

Reappeared on the Moon

I stood naked

Resurrected

Safely wrapped

In a wolf fur sky

Dream: I am the Universe

A few nights ago

I dreamed that I was the Universe

Brimming with stars

Planets and black holes

Cosmic Breath

A turning inside-

And outside-in

Weaving in and out of existence

Rhythm

So this is

The sound of

One hand clapping…

Skulls don’t lie

I look at the sky

Where puffy clouds lie

Skulls with pincers

Crabs

Lobsters

Dis-ease

On a hot day

Hidden in plain view

Something in me dies

Whenever I tell

Polite lies

I look at the sky

Where my own skull

Grins right back at me

Wild Boar Medicine

(A small dose)

Right above

Solstice Rock

The Resurrected Moon

Rests in a tree

To meet all eyes

Gazing up at her

They become one giant

Golden eye

That will greet The Rising Sun too

With awe

Without question

Fifteen baby wild boar

Return her gaze only briefly

While grazing in the field

Believing that

The Resurrected Moon

Is the Morning Sun

In the Scandinavian

Sky

Having faced

My fears and phantoms

I stand reborn

A Wild Boar Person

With solar attitude

A great love for solitude

At this point I decided to go to bed but my bed turned into an art studio and “poet’s corner” as I cannot possibly sleep when the energy is so high!

Finding Your Own Way

June, 2018

Chapter 3

Acceptance

The hardest lesson that we need to earn as human beings is acceptance. It is not a vague feeling of goodwill, nor a sign of weakness and vacillation. It is a powerful tool for expanding up our intuition and creativity. It gives us new insights and new options in many situations. It allows us to take a realistic and honest look at situations in our homes and at work and at many social events.

Where once we may have been victims of our own emotions and impulses, we begin to gain the ability to take control of situations around us. It is the key to unlocking a positive future.

As we learn to accept others without judgment, we begin to remove the emotional blockages to the exploration of our own inner worlds.

We learn to see ourselves honestly and without self-criticism. We can then begin to see, and deal with, our own hidden motivations and develop true spontaneity. To encourage acceptance, we need to release ourselves from our need for certainty. Remember, it is inconceivable, that we are always right, and others are always wrong. This basic truth is a good starting point.

I cannot emphasize enough how important a force like acceptance will become in our lives.

It is a key element in self-healing. It is essential for any true learning and personal development.

It is best to use a comfortable chair at this stage, to lessen the likelihood of falling asleep.

Again, just read the text and muse over the images. Then, allow the images and ideas to flow through your mind unchallenged, both during and after the deep relaxation technique.

If you wish, you can now begin to add some visualization techniques.

If your eyes open, just allow them to close again after a few moments.

As you breathe in, imagine a stream of golden light flowing down into your body from above.

As you breathe out, imagine it flowing out from your torso and forming a golden ball around you.

Repeat this a few times and return to your musings.

You may repeat the sequence a few times if you wish.

Allow yourself time to return to normal consciousness before driving or operating any machinery.

A drink and a snack are a good way to return fully to normal waking consciousness.

Be aware that time distortion often occurs during meditations. An hour may pass in what feels like a few moments, or time may seem to stretch, and a short session may seem to last much longer.

This section will ease your journey into later, more advanced, meditations.

Try not to rush ahead or work to any targets. The journey is what counts. Every single moment is what matters most. This is your journey and will unfold in your own unique way. You will discover a wisdom and guidance that will benefit you for your whole life as you begin to discover your own inner resources.

Certainty

Like a suit of armor,

Polished gold that gleams and sparkles in the light.

That Blessed Shield that keeps our ego safe.

No niggling doubts disturb us in the night.

No second thoughts to make our conscience chafe.

The Joy of never being wrong,

Those great eternal truths that beam down from above.

Our principles that keep us different from the milling throng.

When we love Certainty,

Its charms can keep us safe from any other love.

We feel misunderstood by those who do not truly Know.

Their dreadful ignorance and anarchy surround us every day.

If only we could set them on the path they need to go.

If only they could understand the things we try to say,

Then we could let them bask in our enlightened glow.

But then,

How can I teach the sparrow how to fly?

They seemed to know just what to do,

Before I ever had a chance to teach them how.

I often watch in envy as they dance and weave above us in the evening sky.

The crimson setting sun, that lights their antics, lights the furrows on my brow.

Streaking red and gold across the purple hills and dark green fields,

Its rainbow glory blinds my eyes and lets me see,

This world was doing fine before there ever was a Me.

*****

Once we start to meditate, we open a doorway to our unconscious thoughts and feelings. This may not always be a comfortable experience. Take things slowly. If you become unhappy with the experience stop and open your eyes. If you feel tearful for no apparent reason, do not worry. It is simply a release of energy. But if you find yourself becoming moody or unhappy, – just take a break for a few days. This will give you time to assimilate whatever is being released from your unconscious mind. This is a very personal journey, and a lot of the images that will flow into your mind may seem strange at first, – but they will tend to have a relevance to your life which will become clear in time.

Many of the images may even seem religious. This is because they are a part of our human history and have been experienced and interpreted by many people over the ages. It is your own personal reaction to the images that count. You will come across them in the guided meditations also. Again, this is because we all share many of these ancient images as part of our common heritage. As you learn to deal with these ancient images, you will come to realize that they can release energy into our lives. This is not a religious exercise. Meditation on these symbols will allow us to tap into skills and abilities and attributes that are dormant in our minds, – regardless of whether we are atheists, agnostics or members of any of the mainstream religions. Our journey is about finding balance in our lives between our inner and outer needs but doing it in our own unique way.

Finding the Pagan Way

April, 2016

findingpagan

by: Boy So Blue Graphic s and photography

With all the right wing and reactionary posts which have seeped into many pagan groups in this last year, I have been forced to reappraise my own position. I did not feel comfortable posting to pages that shared narrow-minded and bigoted views. I stepped back for a while and looked to my own beliefs. I realised that participation in group activities is not totally necessary to re-affirm our own personal stance. I turned my focus to what is important to me as an individual.

I have friends from many mainstream religions and I detest Christian bashing as much as any other form of xenophobia and fear mongering. All creatures react with fear at times when it is necessary, but only humans nurture fear and build it into the bedrock of their lives. Most of us have some element of fear motivating us, but we need to face up to it and understand its corrupting influence on our lives. We all excel at self-deception, but by accepting the underlying current of fear in our lives, – we can allow it to flow through us and eventually, reduce its impact on our lives and our actions.

One thing that helped me was to look at the core of my beliefs and remind myself why I became a pagan. The concept of the Lord and Lady and the balance which they bring to the world, helped me to bring balance to my own life. Likewise the turning of the seasons, and realising my own place in this, grounded me in a way that Christian mysticism never did. But this is a matter of personal need and personal choice. What helped me may not be so useful to another person. For me, the best way to explain my beliefs is through my poetry. I can express much more in rhyme than I ever could in any other way.

The Sacred Marriage.

The Lord and Lady glide about the forest, as the softly sighing leaves are whispering in the silver light.
The dwellers of the woods are quiet and still, and dark eyes gaze upon the scene entranced,
No man, nor beast would dare disturb the ritual of this night.
Above, the Goddess lights her emissaries, as the moon and earth enjoin in Sacred Dance.

Tall and stately like a silver birch, the Lady flows like liquid moonlight through the trees,
Laughter, like the tinkling of a golden bell, caresses sensual lips and flutters off into the waiting night.
Great Pan himself, is so enamoured of her beauty that he pauses in his play, to place a kiss upon her knee,
Then He resumes His Dance and placing pipe to lips, He fills the Still night air with merriment and pure delight.

Fire to speed the coming of the Sun, blazing high, as sparks are flying to the sky’s,
Warm the Earth!
Writhe like new-grown saplings reaching to the light!
Naked feet, caressing and cajoling Mother earth, can feel Her Spirit and Her Power rise,
And Spring, is surely hastened with the coming of Her Lover, at sunrise.

I was not there, I cannot tell this tale in full.
Perhaps my senses are too numb, perhaps my mind to dull.
But every day I ask the Goddess that I may Awake,
and every night I look up to the Moon for guidance,
for the journeys I may make.

Patrick W Kavanagh

I believe that there is much yet for me to learn, even after 50 years of searching. I know that when I touch the core of life that these are the images and emotions that flood my mind and heart. I am aware that I have an ongoing and evolving relationship with spirit which has guided and helped me for many years. There have been thousands of messages and hundreds of times when Spirit has physically helped me. There have also been hundreds of times, when I did not listen and paid for my own stubbornness. This is my journey and not anyone else’s, but, I hope that by sharing what I have been given, I can help others to make sense of some parts of their own journey. This is why I write.

Lord of the Woodlands

Dawn brings a cold grey light beneath a moody sky
that does not seem to greet the day with joy.
A sleepless night is followed by a solitary walk.
I long for peace, – but expectations are not high.
The glistening grass has soaked my feet,
and chilled me to the bone.
I curse myself for such a choice of routes,
but still I’m grateful for this time alone.

The woodlands beckon me with sheltered paths
beneath its softly sighing trees.
Perhaps in such a sheltered grove
My aching mind may find some ease.
So I wandered in that twilight world
that held the dawn at bay,
beneath its gently waving arch of green
that kept the world away.

The woodlands watched me as I walked,
Though lost in morbid thought,-
it’s little voices whispered gently in my ear.
Inviting me to share the home they loved so dear.
Slowly, carefully I walked,
in case I should disturb the woodland creatures at their play.
Watchfully, I carried on, fearful to arouse the beings
who live within the pause between the night and day.

But there He stood, despite my care.
Wreathed in mist, the sparrows nesting in His hair.
As He walked, the flowers bloomed beneath his hooves,
and though I wished to run away I could not move.
Eye to eye, I thought that I would die from fear.
But as I held His gaze, I felt my misery dissolve.
Emotions flooded through me, and then they washed away as tears.
For only goodness flowed from Him,
and if He wills it,
I will walk with Him for all my Years.
