Wood Crystal Grid Review & Interview with Kelly Matthews from Zen and Meow

Wood Crystal Grid Review & Interview with Kelly Matthews from Zen and Meow

Kelly Matthews from Zen and Meow was so kind to send me one of her lovely wood grids made of birch in a pentacle design. It was the twelve inch size and I really enjoy the larger size grids. Lots of room to fit crystals! In her etsy shop there are tons of options for designs and all come in four sizes, 3 in, 6 in, 9 in, and 12 in. ranging in price from $7 to $33. Its great that you can personalize both the design and the size to your liking. The wood is simply top notch quality and the engraving of the design looks stunning.

I actually purchased a grid from Zen and Meow about a year ago. The custom wood engraved astrology chart. You send her your natal chart information and she engraves your chart onto wood. There is also an option to include a report of your natal chart which I also ordered. The price ranges from $22 to $52 depending on size and if you also want a report. I was thrilled with my purchase and very highly recommend it. I keep mine propped up on my altar, but you could grid with it or even hang it on the wall if you’d like. Such a neat idea to personalize your natal chart on a grid!

I highly recommend Zen and Meow wood grids. She also sells small tumbles for gridding available in her shop at a good price. If you are looking for top quality wooden grids check out Zen and Meow!

Kelly was so kind to answer some questions I had. Here are her responses.

Q: How did you get started making and using grids?

Kelly: I opened a metaphysical shop in Gettysburg about 4 yrs ago which really piqued my interest. I look at crystal gridding as another form of magic. Using nature, ritual and intention to manifest what we want.

Q: What are the different styles and materials you make your grids?

Kelly: I have quite a few grids that focus on sacred geometry, I have a line of animal totem grids, chakra related grids, as well as hand drawn mandala grids. I make all of my grids out of Birchwood.

Q: What is your personal favorite grid you offer and why?

Kelly: I really dont have 1 favorite, but my most popular grids tend to be the honey bee, dragonfly, flower of life, chakra grid and most of the sacred geometry grids. I find people are really drawn to sacred geometry, it tends to go hand in hand with gridding.

Q: What do you use gridding for?

Kelly: Mostly as a way to manifest something specific into my life, similar to how I would use an altar. I look at it as magic.

Q: What are some of your favorite crystals to grid with?

Kelly: Once again i really don’t have a favorite. It really depends on what I’m trying to draw into my life. I do use clear quartz on most of them with other stones.

Q: Why is gridding an effective tool to add to one’s daily practice?

Kelly: I believe its as effective as you make it. If you just toss some stones on a grid it’s not going to be as effective as you taking the time to setting an intention, pick out stones that really resonate with your intention, making offerings etc. I practice all sorts of magic so gridding is just one avenue and not always a daily practice for me. I recommend combining it with other forms of magic in order to be as effective as possible.

Q: How long have you worked with grids?

Kelly: For about 4 yrs.

Q: What’s one thing you want to share that I haven’t asked?

Kelly: I make custom wood engraved astrology charts which make great gifts for friends, newborns, and yourself. You can even have one created for a couples wedding date. I make wood cut sacred geometry jewelry out of alder and walnut woods. They are super lightweight and I use sterling silver for all the findings and hooks. I do take custom requests for grids so if there is ever a design you want but I don’t carry just ask.

LED Crystal Grid Review & Interview with Jessica Miller from Cracked Crystal Co.

LED Crystal Grid Review & Interview with Jessica Miller from Cracked Crystal Co.

Jessica Miller from the Cracked Crystal Co. was so sweet as to send me one of her LED light up grids to try out. It measures 11in X 9.5 in X 1 in. It came with 2 different design plates (made of glass). You can interchange them in the wooden holder. It’s so neat to have 2 options! You place the glass grid you are working with into the wooden slots to hold it in place. Then you attach the plugs that come with it and connect to an electric source. It’s easy to put together. Then you set up your grid. When you are ready to add color to your gridding experience, it comes with a remote to control which colors you want to use.

Only thing I would recommend is including instructions for the remote (sometimes I need the extra help lol). After I turned it on it was a gorgeous blue. I wasn’t expecting it to be so bright! It’s visually stunning! Then I changed the colors many times and each color looked cooler than the last! So much fun and really brings a new layer to the gridding process! I love being able to change colors to suit my intentions. I took pictures of the different colors but unfortunately the pics do not do this grid justice.

It doesn’t translate onto the picture. But trust me it is a feast for the eyes! I really am enjoying this grid and look forward to trying different color combinations with different stones. A whole new world of possibilities! This LED light up grid is $85 and comes with 2 glass grids. You can choose which 2 patterns you want.  In the etsy shop there are also wood and lucite grid options as well. I highly recommend this light up grid. It truly is magical!

I had the opportunity to ask Jessica some questions about gridding and here are her responses.

Q: How did you get started using and making grids?

Jessica: I’ve loved crystals for a long time and grown a lot in my spiritual journey throughout the years. Grids helped me better understand my crystals and energy work so of course I wanted to help spread that knowledge.

Q: What are the different styles and materials you make your grids?

Jessica: Currently we offer grids in wood, lucite and glass. We feature several sacred geometry grids and a few homemade patterns.

Q: What is your personal favorite grid you offer and why?

Jessica: I am personally partial to our cut out flower of life grid. It’s delicate and gorgeous to look at. I also so appreciate how different our illuminating grid is. There is something powerful about that color under your crystals!

Q: What do you use gridding for?

Jessica: Stress relief mostly. I find setting up the grids very relaxing. Taking the time to listen to your stones and see how they work together is so rewarding.

Q: What are some of your favorite crystals to grid with?

Jessica: Ok so my absolute favorite combo is amethyst and celestite. Such sweet and loving energy. Like a hug from the universe.

Q: Why is gridding an effective tool to add to one’s daily practice?

Jessica: It’s a time to set aside for yourself and your crystals. Like meditation its important to take that time daily (or as often as you can).

Q: How long have you worked with grids?

Jessica: I began working with grids in 2017, so not very long! Honestly, I used to think they were foolish. What would I get out of gridding that I didn’t get from my stones on their own? Boy am I glad I tried it!

Q: What’s one thing you want to share that I haven’t asked?

Jessica: This practice is there for self-love and improvement. Remember, you are wonderful and your journey is beautiful. May you be well, happy and peaceful.

Amazonite

A member of the Feldspar family, it’s said that Amazonite is the stone of truth. By stimulating the throat chakra, this stone assists in clear communication by aligning your speech to higher ideals. Amazonite inspires confidence, hope and enhances creative “true to self” expression. With its soothing green colors, calmness is what this crystalline structure is all about. This stone also works powerfully through the heart chakra by healing past emotional traumas.

When I worked in the financial industry I would often wear Amazonite jewelry not only because of its abilities described above but also because it’s known to relieve stress and dispel negative energy, and where there’s money, negative energy seems to follow. Thinking back, I remember wearing an Amazonite bead bracelet that I would mindlessly fiddle with when I was dealing with large amounts of money, and calm is exactly what I remember feeling when I did that. Another wonderful aspect that this Feldspar offers is its ability to assist in manifesting. Meditating with Amazonite can help clarify your intentions and affirmations, bringing your souls purpose into alignment.

To be honest, when I first started collecting crystals, Amazonite wasn’t even on my radar. I was so obsessed with the more common crystals, especially the Quartz family, that this subtle but sweet little gem was passed over many times. It may have taken a bit longer than I’d like to admit, but I can say without a doubt that I’m grateful to have this stone included in my crystal healing arsenal.

Quartz Crystal

Sometimes known in ancient times as “frozen water from heaven”, clear quartz is one of the most versatile stones in the mineral realm. It’s often used for amplifying, balancing, clearing and cleansing but this crystal will also energize, activate and transmit. Quartz crystals are not always clear, some are opaque, some have hints of color because of an additional mineral, no matter the clarity it does not minimize or maximize this stones abilities.

Quartz crystals can be used for any healing or spiritual purpose and can be programmed for any specific task you wish to use it for. It will take your energy to a perfect vibrational state allowing you to accomplish the intended use that you have programmed it with. I frequently pair one of my other crystals with a quartz to amplify its healing energies. I’ve also added Quartz to my tarot decks because it helps establish a strong, clear connection to a higher guidance.

This multidimensional stone can also be used as a cleanser and it’s been said that it can hold an immeasurable amount of energy. I have quartz pieces scattered throughout my house as an additional cleanser to my smudging routine. Whether you use this crystal for cleansing, healing or amplifying another stones properties, all crystals having healing potential, your interaction with each crystal is unique. Take some time, meditate and discover the healing properties that this crystalline structure has for you.

Nightmare

(Nightmare Bag)

To Stop Nightmares

Merry meet.

Several people I encountered were experiencing nightmares and looking for relief. I began making charm bags (that I also call spell bags or mojo bags) and was told they worked, so I am sharing it with you.

Choose a piece of fabric or a purchased bag – of a natural material if possible – in deep purple, dark blue or black, but any one you’re drawn to will be good.

Based on my research, I came up with the list of ingredients below that have magical properties to alleviate nightmares. Read it over and select those you’d like to use. You can combine the dried botanicals and stones in almost any combination or ratio. Add a few drops of oil if you wish. If you feel stuck, try using a pendulum to make your selections.

A wise woman told me, “I have found magical blends to have more to do with one’s own personal relationship with the plants than with any recipe, formula or dogma. And what one has on hand at a time of need is there with reason, purpose and value.”

I hope you’ll take that advice to heart as did I. I didn’t have frankicense oil, but I did have frankincense resin, so that’s what I used. I was moved to put in rose petals and lavender flowers, and in one, a few grains of pink salt.

With your ingredients in the center of the piece of cloth, or in the bag, you can tie them up with a few words such as,

“This bag holds the power to restore peace, it brings a good night’s sleep as nightmares cease. As I will so mote it be.”

Put the bag near your head, on a hook above your pillow, next to your bed or even under the mattress.

Sweet dreams.

Merry part. And merry meet again.

Amethyst

Having long been known as the stone of sobriety, amulets and goblets were made of Amethyst to prevent drunkenness. In addition, it assists in ridding oneself of addictions and bad habits. This spiritual stone vibrates at a higher frequency, helping to block and transmute lower vibrations to a higher spiritual frequency. It also has the ability to clear blockages and assist in connecting with more beneficial energies keeping you in line with your souls true path.

This mineral is proficient at bringing both the mind and body to a tranquil state during meditation allowing one to move into a higher state of consciousness. Though this crystal works wonders for the mind, it’s also a powerfully protective stone, guarding against any negative energy. For these reasons alone, I have Amethyst placed throughout my home as well as an addition to my pocket stones.

Amethyst was one of the first crystals that my dad gave me. It was actually one that he had purchased, and I remember being so excited because it was my favorite color. The color spectrum for this crystal ranges from pale lavender to an intensely rich violet. It’s been said that Amethyst is the first crystal that most lightworkers buy for their crystal toolkit. I can’t honestly tell you which crystal, mineral or stone was the first in my collection, however I can tell you that by count it’s the second largest group of crystals that I own just slightly behind my collection of Smoky Quartz. I would have to agree, and say that Amethyst would make an excellent and powerful addition to either a personal collection or a lightworkers toolkit. With so many positive attributes you just can’t go wrong with this crystal.

Smoky Quartz

crystal

Smoky Quartz comes in a range of shades from near clear with just a hint of the color that it’s named for, to such a dark color that it emulates the deepest and richest terra firma. No matter the color, these crystals radiate an earthy warmth that seriously gives me a sense of home. You know, that warm comfortable feeling that you get when you’re snuggled up under the softest blanket on the couch when everything feels right in the world and there’s no place you’d rather be? Well that’s exactly how I feel when I’m holding these crystalline beauties.

crystal1

(image courtesy: Shijewels https://www.etsy.com/shop/shijewels where all jewerly is for sale.)

While worn it has been said that the wearer may experience some phenomena such as seeing fairies, spirits or aura’s. My experience with when wearing these crystals has been manifestation. At times its felt like I’ve had a direct connection to the Universe and what I’ve conjured or visualized in my mind seems to find its way to fruition. It’s funny how we can take these experiences, whether big or small, and just chalk them up to a happy happenstance when in fact the very crystal that you’re wearing has given your “voice” a boost to be heard and happily granted. Now I’m not saying that every wish or thought has come true, but what I am saying is if it’s something that would or should naturally fit in my path then it is created with an unexpected ease.

Smoky Quartz is known as one of the foremost grounding stones. In today’s word and life in general, it’s easy to get caught up or swept away in things that cause us distress or that makes us feel so completely disconnected that we feel like we’re floundering. When this happens to me the first thing I do is gather one, two or heck depending on how I feel I may grab all of them, then I cop a squat on the floor and let them do their magick. Usually I’ll instantaneously feel a calmness wash over me, and once my mind has quieted I’ll do a purposeful meditation that consists of grounding and cleansing my chakras.

These crystals are gifts from Mother Earth and powerful natural healers. It’s great to collect them for their beauty but when their metaphysical properties include protecting us from negative energies and absorbing an unlimited amount of it, then why not give them a try and see how they can work for you? I encourage you to set a journal aside just for your crystals. Sit down with them and take notes of how they make you feel, and please share your experiences with me. I would love to hear from you!

Labradorite

Labradorite belongs to the same mineral family (feldspar) as Sunstone, Larvikite, Spectrolite, and Moonstone. If the protecting feeling from this stone doesn’t draw you in then the jaw dropping rainbow of colors surely will.

crystal1

Not only are these beauties protective, but they also heighten our ability to focus on personal issues without letting outside influences affect us. They allow us to work on our spiritual, mental and emotional selves by ridding us of any previous negative patterns. This stunning mineral is a potent magickal stone of transformation with its ability to awaken and heighten our mental and intuitive abilities.

crystal2

It’s often suggested to place Labradorite on your Third Eye during meditation to receive visions of the future. I usually wear a large piece on a long chain because of it’s ability to balance and protect the aura. I also find that I’m drawn to wear this crystal when I’m needing a little boost of spiritual strength and grounding energies. Whether Labradorite calls to you for its metaphysical properties or for its beauty alone, definitely add this stone to your collection. No two are alike and you will be in a constant state of awe each time it flashes its brilliant colors at you.

Healing Crystals for Men

Amethyst

amethyst
A “Master Healing Crystal”. Also called “the Royal Stone”. Amethyst’s most noted healing quality is its ability to purify and transmute all forms of negativity. Get a large Amethyst Crystal cluster for your home or office to protect yourself from hostile energies around you. If anxiety causes shortness of breath, put the cluster on or near your chest and breath slowly for a few minutes to lessen the symptoms. Consider a large, well-set
amethyst gemstone ring to enhance your personal magnetism and to provide mental clarity. Amethyst is also helpful for migraines, arthritic pains, and connecting to one’s spirituality for guidance.

Diamond

diamond
“The King of Crystals”. Diamond intensifies and activates one’s internal energies through its purity of vibration. The better the quality of Diamond, the better one’s own personal qualities and actions. When freely given,
Diamond power becomes activated and can be used for manifesting abundance and increasing personal self-esteem. It is a token of one’s love to another, and both enhances and radiates the beauty of the wearer. The diamond is also known for invincibility, representing the life force (prana).

Garnet

garnet
The “Sex Stone”. Garnet strengthens and restores physical and emotional energy lost through constantly ensuring the protection and welfare of others. When you feel a bit lost or abandoned in the chaos of daily life,
Garnet helps to provide the needed grounding and empowering to become more decisive and committed to a direction. Garnet is well-known for enhancing and regenerating one’s sexuality (the physical aspects). For best
effects, tape a small half-inch piece at the Hara Centre – one and one-half inches below the navel – and wear it overnight.

Hematite

hematite
“The Stress Stone”. Hematite is a versatile metallic-like crystal used for enhancing one’s logic, mathematical abilities, rational thinking and depth of technical knowledge. It grounds creative energy to make one’s thoughts
more practical and focused. As a “Stress Stone”, Hematite reflects negativity back to the sender, so you don’t end up with someone else’s stress. For backache or leg cramps, use surgical tape to fix a few pieces onto painful areas. The crystal’s energy is like a magnet and effectively draws out pain related to muscular or joint alignment problems. Hematite is also used to reduce insomnia.

Jade

jade
A “Crystal of Tranquillity”. Also called “the Sport Stone”, promoting agility and swiftness. Many men from the Far East know the benefits of wearing Jade. Some will tell you that it is for their health, and how the color of the
Jade gets darker with good health and lighter with declining health. Jade soothes the emotions, and provides emotional detachment and restoration after various traumas such as minor surgery, divorce, funerals, or loss of job. Some say it is for good luck. Jade is a stone which is easily obtained in most city centers and can be openly worn as a pendant.

Lapis Lazuli

apis-lazuli
“The Stone of The Pharaohs”. Lapis Lazuli is well-known as a favorite stone used in the courts of the ancient Egyptian Kings. Lapis (stone) Lazuli (blue) is used for stimulating mental strength and intellectual precision.
Lapis is a consciousness elevator, raising one’s awareness to new heights and to greater expansion. It brings feelings of success and connected-ness and protection. For intuitive people, Lapis intensifies psychic power.

Malachite

malachite
“A Man’s Stone”. The deep forest green of Malachite is symbolic of the deep healing and cleansing this stone provides. It can aid in breaking down old patterns, whether emotional (stuck patterns of behavior) or physical
(tumors, swollen joints, muscular). Malachite promotes business relationships and the increase of wealth by removing obstacles to one’s growth. The most important aspect of this crystal’s healing ability however, is for the preventative health of the physical heart and liver. If you are attracted to this crystal, chances are you have a family history of heart-related problems and probably need a heart check-up.

Moonstone

moonstone
“The Feminine Balancing Crystal”. To soften and balance dominant male attributes with some feminine qualities, Moonstone provides for a depth of perception and feelings, discernment, creativity and self-expression.
Other properties of Moonstone include: increases awareness and focus, releases one’s intuition, rejuvenating qualities for the skin and hair (baldness?), reduces water retention, and protection for travelers. Moonstones increase their powers before and during the full moon, so leave them out at night to soak up the moon’s rays.

Rose Quartz

rosequartz
“The Love Stone”. Rose Quartz is another Master Healing Crystal that specializes in transmuting emotional negativity at all levels. It enhances one’s ability to give and receive love, by opening the Heart chakra and
stimulating greater flexibility in communications. It mellows out a reluctant Heart, and provides peace in relationships through harmony. Rose Quartz is used for meditation, as it stills one’s aggressive thoughts and provides mental tranquillity. It can heal a broken heart very quickly too.

Smokey Quartz

smokeyquartz
The “Emotional Balancer Crystal”. Smokey Quartz is a very specialized crystal for negative emotional energy. This crystal is excellent for mood swings, aggressive actions, ill temper, and generally nasty thoughts. It grounds all kinds of negative energy. This stone is helpful for burnout, fear of failure, reluctance to take risks, or wanting revenge, as well as for tendencies to over-eat, smoke or drink due to stress. It helps you accept
responsibility for yourself, and to broaden your capacity for effective communication by dissolving self-limiting perceptions.

Moonstone

Moonstone-22

Moonstone is a very soft stone that chips easily, handle it with care.  It is a variety of Feldspar, which is one of the most common minerals on the Earth.  Raw Moonstone rarely shows the stones full beauty.  Most of Moonstones play on light can only be seen after the stone has been cut.

As its name suggests Moonstone has a strong and sacred link to the Moon, many of its qualities are connected with the Moon.  There is a strong female energy with Moonstone.  Moonstone has a goddess energy and mothering quality.  It brings new beginnings, deep emotional healing, and calm emotions.  It enhances intuition and psychic abilities.  So it is an excellent stone to keep with your divination tools and to use during meditation.  Moonstone is a reflection of the wearer.  It does not change or alter personality per se; it reflects it out so that it can be understood.

In India it was believed that Moonstone grew under the rays of the moon and absorbed its mystical qualities.  Romans believed it had the power to endow love, wealth, and wisdom.  The play of light in Moonstone is said to evoke tender feelings and safeguarding love.  It is even said that if you give your significant Moonstone jewelry you will always have passion for one another.

Everything is part of a cycle of change, Moonstone reminds us of that.  During the waning phase of the Moon, place Moonstone on a window sill.  The rays of the Moon recharge the stone and attune its energies to the receding tides.  The very structures of life can be changed with Moonstone.  It is reflective and soothing, especially to instability and stress.  It helps you understand yourself which brings happiness to your environment.  There is a connection between plants and Moonstone.  Place the stone at the base of a stem or hang from branches to encourage growth.

Using Moonstone you can also make Moon Raking.  Moonstone is at its strongest and most power during the full Moon.  Moon Raking water helps store this energy.  Place Moonstone in a crystal, glass, or clay bowl.  Add spring water.  Finally place outside under a full moon.  Visualize the moon’s rays filling the water with its energy.  Store the water; it can be used in healing rituals, for cleansing stones, purification, and other Moon magic.  When Moonstone is placed under your pillow it can promote a restful sleep.  In India it is said that Moonstone will bring beautiful visions at night.
