Review of Morrigu’s Nest Etsy Shop Products

Morrigu’s Nest is a wonderful shop on Etsy that sells a variety of products to cover your magickal demands. Owner, Anne Corrigan, hand makes all her items from talismans & jewelry to candles & oils, there is guaranteed to be something you need or can use! Her recipes are her own secrets and she carries, in Morrigu’s Nest, many ways for you to celebrate the holidays.

This past Spring Equinox we celebrated using item’s from Morrigu’s Nest. (We only took before pictures, as our rituals are private.)

Ostara/Spring Scented Equinox Candle

Packed to the brim with all you need for an Ostara/Spring Equinox ritual this easy to travel with tin held candle is very convenient. Either for the witch on the go, or the witch in the closet who needs to hide her magick in her bag till she can find a place to do it, this all in one kit is a go to all inclusive ritual package! It is filled with corresponding herbs like honeysuckle & orange daylilies; and crystals like amethyst and rose quartz to name a few. The candle itself smells like jasmine and spring blossoms. The pure freshness of it brings thoughts of spring.

Instructions come with the candle explaining that you are to remove the herbs and gems from the candle before lighting. Then giving ideas on what you can use your gemstones for. You are to imbue them with your energy, you can arrange them around the candle, you can use them in a spell, a bottle, a sachet, a poppet, there are so many ways. There is a generous amount of herbs and stones given with the candle. So you can use them in a few ways.

The candle is 4 oz hand poured into a tin with a cover. Smooth looking. It burns very well. Nice scent. Clean burn. We loved using it during our ritual. Plan to use the herbs in many ways. Plan to use the tin, too. Right now I’m saving the herbs in them.

Ostara Anoninting Oil

100% natural, essential oil, body potion. Loaded with herbs, flowers, oils & crystals. You can see them filling the bottle. The smell is of a sunny spring day in a meadow. The oil is light on your skin and blends in well without leaving any residue. The scent is nice and strong and will stay on you for a long period of time. It has calming scent. You can use this beautiful oil to anoint yourself for ritual and magick work, or just to wear on a beautiful spring day to remind yourself you are the magick.

Morrigu’s Nest, also, has ways to help you celebrate other sabbats, let’s take a look!

Yule Scented ritual candle

Their Yule Candle smells like Yule. The herbal & crystal topping is spectacular. You can see the juniper berries, orange peel, cloves, and so much more. The crystals shimmer. The aroma is warming and of spiced fruits and wood.

In the instructions Morrigu’s Nest is clear to state, many times, to remove the herbs and crystals before burning your candle. I wanted to show you how the candle looks without the herbs. Here is the herbs in a bowl. You can see there is a good amount of herbs and stones to work with in spells and a nice 4oz full candle in the tin. It is 100% natural wax.

Yule herb blend

Another wonderful product to help celebrate Yule is their Yule herbal blend. It is a potent blend of corresponding herbs, botanicals, spices, barks, & roots. Morrigu’s Nest has used over a dozen ingredients in her special Yule Winter Recipe. Some ingredients include: bay laurel, cinnamon bark, yew leaves, coriander, and much more.

This is intended for magickal use only, NOT culinary. You man NOT eat this. There are warnings that come with the package. The ingredients were chosen for their magickal correspondences only. It is suggested to burn it in small amounts as the scent may be over powering in large quantities and may not smell the same when burned.

You get 4oz in a resealable pouch, which is great. You can keep it fresh! It smells wonderful, woodsy. You pick up the cinnamon and juniper right away. It is good to use simply as a magickal Yule potpourri filled with your wishes & intent for everyone! Give a little sachet maybe to everyone with a gift? To keep in their homes. A little goes a long way with the scent & the blessing.

Samhain Set

This set comes in a Gold Gauze bag, a peek-a-boo presentation of witchie delights. All of it’s contents are addressed on explanation documents that arrive with your set. It’s a long bag & sticking my hand in I just grab for the firs thing I feel. Unfortunately I did not take a picture of the bag…

An herbal Samhain blend

An herbal blend for Samhain, much like the one for Yule. It is meant to be used for magick or an incense. However, this one includes such herbs as rosemary, wormwood, mugwort, and others. You receive 1oz of 100% natural herbal blend. The smell is lovely, but I must admit, it is not as strong as the Yule blend. I like the Yule blend a bit more, but that is just MY taste.

Dressed Scented Samhain

Black Tin Candle & Orange Tin Candle

These two candles are beautiful. They shine with glitter and smell glorious! Each a different aroma & color. If I have to guess and say what they smell like I would say the orange one has a more fall smell to it. They typical fall smelling candle. The ones you just love to get when it’s that time of year! The black candle smells more, I can not explain why, but like night to me. Like a sweet night. On the breeze. Oh so dreamy! Plus you have all the Samhain corresponding herbs on top to work with.

Bottle of Witches Black Salt

Morrigu’s Nest has included an important tool in this Samhain kit…Black Salt. For those how have never used Black Salt before it is used in workings for protection, banishing, curses, hex breaking, uncrossings, etc… It is a great item witches should have in their cupboards for defending themselves.

Morrigu’s Nest recipe is NOT just colored salt. She uses all natural ingredients and NO DYES. She has her own recipe she has formulated of a powerful blend of protective and banishing herbs, roots, seeds, & combined them with ashes from her Samhain ritual fire and sea salt. Then using energy and intense visualization she imbued the intention of protection and fiery defense as she pulverized these ingredients into almost a powder. It is a very fine powder and not the usual chunks of black salt you will find at shops. I like this because a little goes a long way.

After explaining more of her method of making her Black Salt at Morrigu’s Nest, she goes on to explain safe ways to use it, including a spell. I found that very handy. I like knowing how it was made. Her secret recipe. Suggestions are always helpful.

4 Thieves Vinegar

Four Thieves Vinegar is an ingredient found in Hoodoo & folk magic spells. The recipe has evolved from Western Europe, around the fifteenth century. Their are many legends about it. The common string among them is that there was a horrible plague in a village, and the only people who survived were four thieves. Each of them contributed one ingredient to a jar of vinegar and garlic, they drank it, and somehow survived the plague uninjured. Since they were healthy and everyone else was dying, the four thieves went around the town and robbed the empty houses. Eventually they were caught, and sentenced to hanging, but they were able to escape the gallows by sharing their secret formula. Whether this is true or not is anyone’s guess. Four Thieves Vinegar is a useful item to keep on hand because it can be used in a wide variety of spells, from healing to protection to banishing. I have never worked with this stuff before, but I look forward to it.

Morrigu’s Nest version is made with herbs that correspond to protection & banishing. It claims to be very potent. It warns you to NOT INGEST on the bottle boldly. The papers that come with it suggest how you are to use it and state it is toxic!

Samhain ritual oil

Samhain essential oil, 100% natural, body oil. Comes in a .33 oz glass roller ball applicator bottle. It’s a unisex scent of autumn mostly cinnamon & orange. Very fragrant. Lovely smell. Definitely unisex. Morrigu’s Nest says they oils were chosen based on folklore magickal correspondences as well as their aroma therapeutic traits. It also has notes of patchouli, cedarwood, and other scents. It lasts a long time on the skin and blends in well.

Samhain Gemstone Clip-On Charm

Genuine gemstones frame a pretty, bronze, large triquetra charm on a sturdy clip. I actually pulled on it, cause I can be a jerk like that, to see if it would fall apart easily. It didn’t! I thought it would. I am glad it didn’t because it is so lovely. The suggestion is to wear it on your backpack, bag, purse, handbag, planner, key ring or belt loop. You can use this in your ritual wear, or keep it as your everyday spiritual reminder. The paper it comes with tells you exactly what stones are on the keychain. It does not tell you what they mean, but it tells you they were selected intentionally to correspond with Samhain. It’s easy to look up stones, however, if you do not know the meanings off hand.

How about when it’s not a sabbat & you just need supplies?? Well Morrigu’s Nest has them for you!

Prosperity Candle spell kit

Just like all their sabbat candles, this tin is all you need for a wonderful spell. The prosperity candle spell kit comes with all you need to cast your spell. Filled to the top with all the herbs & crystals you will need to cast and a 4oz candle in a tin that you can travel with.

You can see from the picture you are given plenty of herbal & crystal supplies with your candle for your spell. Plus you get a sheet with your kit explaining exactly what is in your candle, what it’s scent it, how it was made, precautions, and ideas on how to use it! Burn time is approx 25 hours. The smell is springtime greenery, woodsy, & lightly floral. I love the sparkles on the candle. It adds some flare.

Rosemary Mint herbal bath soak

I would like to lick this it smells sooo good! You can see the herbs in the salt. The salt is unlike the usual bath salts you find, it is a fine texture and I love it!!! Instead of rocks in the tub its a fine grain that blends in and just rolls over your body and purifies you as the scent cleanses your mind. I can not recommend this soak more!!!! The relaxation is blissful!

Protect & Purify herbal ritual salt

For use during your sacred circle casting or for purification rituals. This herbal salt was ground with intention to form a powder-like blend & Morrigu’s Nest used traditional protective and cleansing herbs. She pulverized these ingredients into almost a powder.
Even though it is salt it is not edible and comes with a big DO NOT EAT warning. The salt is so fine and a little goes a long way. The container is packed to the tippy top so you have tons in the packed 4oz bottle.

Bring the Green

This bottle of green powder is for use in prosperity, abundance & money spells and rituals. You can burn it, keep it in your wallet, make poppets, and sooo much more with it. Morrigu’s Nest has so many suggestions for its use. It has ingredients like allspice, vervain, basil, marjoram, and so much more in it! Its 2oz and finely ground, so a little bit goes a long way. The bottle is filled to the top. No space for anything. The smell is minty to me. I can’t wait to use it! Maybe carry some in my pocket.

Faery Sight ritual Oil

A 2oz, 100% natural anointing oil, essential blend, inundated with beautiful herbs and flowers! Not so much that there is no oil, but you see them floating beautifully like a garden. Lovely lavender! Rose! To me it has a slight lemony scent to it. A freshness. It’s suggested you anoint your crystals, and thirdeye, & candles with it. Anything to attract fae to you. I can definitely see fae being attracted to this oils ingredients & scent. I would definitely invest in the larger bottles so you can see the herbs and flowers in the bottle. Worth it!

Love & Romance herbal blend

This powder is for use in love, romance, & lust magick. It was pulverized with intention and a blend of herbs & botanicals was used for love and romance magick. The bottle is 2oz and finely ground and filled to the top. A little with this goes a long way! It has ingredients like rose petals, hibiscus, dill, & so much more! The smell is so pretty.

She sends information with all her packages explaining the ingredients of the items, direction on how they are supposed to be used, and ideas on how to use them. I love the glitter, the flare to the candles. Everything has such gorgeous, strong smells, that are not overwhelming and blend nicely. The oils scents stay on your skin and do not fade quickly. Everything is made of great quality & care. The warnings are in bold and mentioned over and over for safety.

Vervain Protection Amulet

This is one of my favorite items in the Morrigu’s Nest catalog. It is gorgeous way to wear something we can all use a little something extra of everyday…protection. I think putting the half crescent moon, antique brass finish, moon charm on a simple silky, black cord allows the pendant to stand out more as the art piece it is. Giving the corked, spell bottle that square on the side eye-hook is just the perfect touch! The spell bottle is filled, packed tightly & permanently sealed with hand ground vervain that is imbued with intent of protection of wearer. The moon worn sideways & in this phase was chosen to represent The Crone, The Wise One, the Grandmother Moon. It is meant …”to represent the energy of the wise greandmother that loves and protects you and gives you her wisdom as she guides you on your path.”

Whatever you think it means to you it does. I kinda got an Egyptian vibe from it. Soon as I saw it, and Isis wings. May it be who it will for you & protect you always!

Another set of items I found to be wonderful and helpful at Morrigu’s Nest were their Intention Bottles…

Intuition & divination

You can see this is a really decent size bottle here. We are not talking tiny little bottle to wear. It is almost 2 inches long. So it really has room in there! It comes with a label that tells you all the ingredients like: mugwort, wormwood, flaxseeds, labradorite, amethyst, and more. You can see and make out many of the ingredients. It is securely sealed. It is filled enough to give you just a touch of room to shake it to revitalize it. It arrives in its own gauze baggie. It comes with an explanation note from Morrigu’s Nest stating that it is …”ritually crafted with the intention of evoking and aiding.”

I am about to take on learning tarot. Runes were my thing, or so I thought. The tarot is calling… So this is what I chose to be my aid in the process. I have felt protected by my other pendant, I believe this will aid me.

Self-Confidence

This bottle is the same size as the other Intention Bottle. Made, ritually, in the same way. However, its contents are different, for its purpose. Inside it holds ingredients, such as; dill, turmeric, citrine, fennel seeds, basil, & more. All for boosting your self-confidence.

It’s lively right? I found that interesting. Like a punch of color…a punch to your system, that boost you need. Well, I have been carrying this bottle on me all day. I would shake it now and then for extra bursts, hold on to it when I felt I was struggling a little more. Today was one of those days! It would help me focus. Remind myself to breathe. Everything inside is bonus to my self-confidence help. Plus the magic of the intention that was lent to it & mine because I pray over my things.

Courage & protection

Just like the previous bottles this, almost 2 inch glass, filled and securely sealed bottle is filled with its own goodies, like: thyme, black pepper, black tourmaline, red jasper, & more. All of which you can clearly read on a removable label that comes attached to its cord.

I used this bottle on my journey of change. I took it to battle really. We all have fears we need to overcome. I have plenty. We went on a hike. I do not like traveling into the forest for too long or too deeply. It is a personal fear. I know we are on a path. I know we can turn around. But I still have my fears. I decided to start making changes in life and facing some fears is one of them. This bottle and I hiked over 3.5 miles today in the forest. We weathered panic. We embraced joy. We overcame… with each other. Every bit helps.

My Overall Thoughts…

I am so amazed by the workmanship, quality, inspiration, detail, and love put into every item I have reviewed from Morrigu’s Nest. Not one item has disappointed me. Every bottle is packed to the brim with quality ingredients. You can smell the herbs. The candles, well, they are brilliant spell kits in themselves. They come with the herbs and gems you will need, and you get the tin after. The amount you get for your money is fantastic. I love that it is their own recipes & handmade, not something I am going to find in every witch shop. My favorite piece, that I have not taken off is the Vervain Protection Amulet. I may feel a little too protected by it, thinking I’m supergirl!

We were lucky enough to get a chance to speak with the proprietress of Morrigu’s Nest & creatrix of all things wonderful within, Anne Corrigan.

Jennifer Wright (JW): Hello Anne, It is such a pleasure to meet you!

I want to thank you for taking the time to talk with me and our readers about yourself, your company, and your process…speaking of your process, where do your ideas come from?  Like your gorgeous Protection Pendant!  I think its trendy enough to wear and get away with magick.  LOL!

Anne Corrigan (AC): Hi Jenn! Thank you so much for reaching out to me, I truly feel honored to have my shop reviewed by you. And thank you and your husband Benjamin for all the work you’ve done to birth PaganPages.org. Your site is a wonderful resource and nourishes the pagan community; thank you!

My inspiration comes from communing with my deities, spirit guides, scrying, shamanic journeying and trance, magickal folklore, connecting with nature, and hanging with my witchy friends. All these muses revisit me during my daydreams and thunderstorms in my head which I credit to my Attention Deficit Disorder, LOL! Sometimes it’s like popcorn popping in my brain. The downside to that is that it’s hard for me to focus on developing one product at a time and it’s a challenge to bring everything to fruition.

I do make some products that could be considered staples of a magickal path that are similar to other companies’ products. The difference is that I really strive to make my offerings unique by putting my own twist on the traditional standbys. At the moment I am working on my own Florida Water recipe. I am also preparing DIY witchcraft project kits for witch ladders, spell bottles, and spirit dolls. I love crafting and making things with my hands. I also want to empower others to create their own sacred objects by providing the raw materials and instructions (coming soon). That way they can really imbue them with more of their magickal energy. I’m glad you like the Protection Pendant! Thank you for the compliment! I like the idea of magick incognito under the guise of fashion, LOL!

JW: Thank you so much for your kind words about PaganPagesOrg, it really touches our heart!

You mention that you use your own secret recipes, are they family recipes?  Will you be passing your recipes down?

AC: Well, my recipes are not completely secret, I do disclose the ingredients in my listings, especially anything that is applied to the skin, such as essential oil blends and ritual bath salts. As for other items, such as, herbal blends, ritual salts, potions, and vinegars, I don’t list every little detail. Even when using traditional recipes for inspiration, I always tweak them based on my intuition, research, and communicating with the spirits of the plants. My recipes are mine alone, I was raised Catholic, and I have no idea if there were any pagans or witches in my ancestral line. I am planning on passing a grimoire down to my daughter. I may also publish a spell recipe book in the future.

JW: I really love how your Black Salt is a finer grain then you usually find with black salts.  Why did you decide to go with this grain?

AC:  I wanted to create a versatile and energy packed black salt. It’s versatile because you can take a pinch in your hand and blow it at your target, discreetly sprinkle some around your workplace, home car, anywhere really. Also, the main reason that I pulverized my black salt is that the process of grinding it allows me to raise energy while I enchant it with my intent and I believe that when I use my mortar and pestle to grind and blend the herbs, salts, roots, seeds, and ashes (I use ashes from our Samhain fires), that the spirits of the plants are evoked and combine their energies with mine. We work together to create magick.

In order to attain such a fine grain, I grind the ingredients first by hand and then again with a motorized grinder. However, because the grain is like a powder, sometimes it clumps together and you have to stick a skewer in the bottle to break it up. Everything in the recipe is natural. I don’t add black dye; the color comes from the ashes. My black salt is also a little different because of its unique scent which I attribute to the ground fennel seeds and ginger root. Every year after Samhain, I create a new batch and change the recipe a little bit.

JW: When you are working/creating, do you have your own special sacred space?

AC: Wherever I am creating is sacred space, because I create sacred space by connecting with my spiritual allies and focusing my intentions. I imbue my products with my energy and intention for the highest good of the owner. I do have a working altar that I perform rituals and spells on and a devotional altar dedicated to The Morrigan where I pray and give offerings as well as charge products that are specifically dedicated to The Morrigan. Much of my product crafting takes place in my kitchen for practical reasons. I do have special magickal wooden spoons and wands that I have dedicated each one for specific tasks such as candle making, potion stirring, and mixing herbal blends and salts.

J): Are there other workers in your company or do you work alone?  Do you hand package & ship your products yourself?

AC: For the most part it is just me. I have a friend who is a Druid that creates some of the ritual bath products for my shop. Her brand is called Blue Moon Sundries. I make my own labels and hand package everything myself. I would like to hire a graphic designer in the future to create some nice labels for my products. For now, I do it myself because I rather invest money in quality raw materials. It’s more important to me to have what’s inside the packaging to be of the highest quality than looking pretty. I really admire other people’s labels though, some are so beautiful, and I get a bit envious, LOL! Morrigu’s Nest is a micro-business, but who knows, one day I might have a crew. I would love that!

(W: How did you start your company, what brought about the idea, did you feel the pagan community was missing something?

AC: In 2014 I opened my Etsy shop and named it Phoenix Serendipity. At that time I didn’t have a plan other than to have an outlet for my creativity and to make a little money to support my crafting habit. When I would make myself a witchcraft tool or altar decor item I would make one for my shop as well. In the beginning my shop was only a hobby.

When I was claimed by The Morrigan I renamed my shop
Morrigu’s Nest. I do feel the need to make it clear that my shop is for everyone regardless of their spiritual tradition and not only devotees of The Morrigan. By naming my shop after The Morrigan it is my public declaration of my devotion to her, a reminder to myself of my commitment. My motivation for my shop now is to empower others in their craft by offering a convenient way to access quality supplies, tools, and sacred objects.

The one aspect of my shop that has remained consistent is my commitment to serving my customers the best I can! I realize that there are many other shops to choose from, especially on Etsy, and I feel honored when people buy my creations.

I am in the process of developing new items and one of my goals is to create DIY kits such as witch ladders, spirit dolls, and spell bottles. These kits will contain all the parts needed along with instructions. I want to serve our community by giving people a way to craft their own tools/sacred objects. That way they have an opportunity to add more of their personal energy into them. I feel these new products can encourage personal sovereignty and self-empowerment.

JW: Do you mind if I ask, what type of path you follow?

AC: I am a daughter of The Morrigan. I also am dedicated to Cernunnos. My path is very eclectic though and I combine aspects of multiple pagan paths and practices that resonate with me. My spirituality is always evolving, growing, and I am continuously learning. I practice solitarily as well as with a group. I consider myself a neo-pagan witch.

JW: What are some of your other hobbies & interests?

AC: Anything creative! I just love experimenting with all types of craft supplies. My group of pagan friends get together about monthly to work on “witchy-crafts.” Just yesterday they came over and we each made a set of clay moon phases. I also love learning about herbs, both magickally and medicinally. I also have become interested in foraging and wild crafting. I feel nourished when I just sit among the trees, or visit the river, or stroll through the woods. I also like drumming, although I struggle with rhythm, I just love the energy of it. Chanting and raising energy with my friends around the fire pit brings me joy. I also enjoy shamanic journeying while listening to live drumming. I am drawn to all modes of divination, especially fire and black mirror scrying. I want to start studying tarot too. I also am interested in developing my ability to communicate with spirits, mediumship, and assisting those in need of crossing over.

When not doing these things, I’m hanging out with my hubby listening to him practice bass and guitar, watching movies, or hanging with family and friends.

Jennifer, thank you so much for interviewing me. This was my first interview ever, and I feel very honored and grateful. May your path be abundantly blessed!

JW: Anne, THANK YOU for taking the time to answer my questions for our readers & sharing about, not only your shop, but yourself. I loved learning about both!

A Beginners Guide to Choosing & Working with Crystal Shapes & Types

Crystals & stones come in so many varieties it can be quite overwhelming at first, this is an overview of how to choose the appropriate type for what you want to use your crystal for. Of course you can get creative and improvise, this is meant to help show you some of the options there are and what it all means. Most important when choosing a crystal to work with is how it makes you feel, touch it and get acquainted if you can. If buying online from a picture, spend a minute looking at the photo and observe how it makes you feel when tuning into it. Intuition can really help guide you to the perfect crystal tool for you. And experiment! That’s the fun of crystals! Your experience will be unique to you…there are no wrong choices.

Spheres:

A sphere is a crystal or stone polished and carved into a sphere shape. They come in endless varieties & sizes. The main reason one would choose a sphere shape in particular, is because spheres radiate energy from all sides and in all directions. They are great for the home or on an altar to raise the energy of your space. If you wanted to bring love into your space, you would want a rose quartz or Rhodochrosite sphere for example. Spheres are also great to hold in your hands during meditation.

Generators:

Generators are flat on the bottom and generally have six polished sides. They come to a point mostly but can have a  flat ridge on top too. They have many uses but my favorite use is in crystal gridding. They are perfect as the center point of the grid. You can use generators to direct energy in a certain direction as well, in the same way you would use a wand, as a generator is basically a wand with a flat bottom that can stand upright. Some like to collect generators and make a generator garden, which is simply a grouping of them. I personally have a big generator garden and I love it. Quartz generators in particular are ideal for use in gridding as quartz is the highest vibration crystal there is.

Obelisks:

Obelisks are very similar to generators but instead of having six polished sides, they have four uniform sides. They resemble a tall pyramid. It has a flat square bottom. These are used for display, or used the same way as generators.

Pyramids:

Exactly as it sounds, its a stone carved & polished into the shape of a pyramid and can be a four sided or three sided pyramid. They could be used in the center of a grid, used on an altar or in a space to bring in Egyptian energy, or simply enjoyed for their beauty. Pyramids are a sacred shape.

Tumbles:

A rock or crystal that’s been polished into a small to medium size, perfect for so many purposes. I like to carry tumbles in a medicine bag or pouch when I leave my house. Much less hard on the shoulders than traveling with palmstones or specimens! (Take my word on that lol)! Tumbles are also great for using in grids, wearing in your bra. They can be placed in bowls in your home, or can be placed in plants, or in a bag in your car, the sky’s the limit! I like to pick out a few tumbles each morning to travel with me throughout my day. I will hold them in my hand as needed. Its a great way to learn a stone a day if you’re new to crystals.

Palmstones/Pillows:

Palmstones are polished stones that are medium to large size that are made to fit into the palm of your hand and are usually an oblong shape. Many prefer to work with them in pairs, holding one in each hand during meditation or crystal healing sessions. Pillows are used the same as palmstones but are round shaped.

Worry stones/Thumb stones:

These are smaller polished stones that have a little thumb imprint or indentation in the middle, perfect for rubbing with your thumb when you are anxious or worried. These are excellent for children or people with anxiety.

Hearts:

Stones carved into a heart shape, perfect for raising love vibrations. Many collect these, including myself.

Eggs:

Stones carved into egg shape. They are appropriate for representing new beginnings, fertility, the cycle of life, and are often seen at Imbolc on altars.

Faceted Meditation Stones:

These are carved and polished crystals with a flat bottom that are perfect for use in Crystal healing and meditations, placing it on the forehead or on chakra points along the body. Also rad for opening yourself up prior to readings or astral travel.

Platonic Solids:

These six shapes are geometric symbols that are visual instruments that can bring our vibrations into harmony with the rhythms of nature. Working with crystals carved into these magical shapes are very powerful, especially when working with them all together. They sell sets of all the platonic solids that come in nice boxes. The platonic solids shapes include: tetrahedron, hexahedron, octahedron, icosohedron,  and dodecahedron.

Points:

Points are the natural, not polished pieces of quartz or other minerals that grow in terminations. They are broken off of clusters or a matrix. Some points have multiple points or terminations. If a point has two points its called a twin, three points a triplet. Points are perfect for gridding and its good to use one for each cardinal direction. Points function as mini wands.

Clusters:

These are a bunch or group of points or terminations on a matrix. Clusters come in all different sizes and shapes. They are stunning display pieces. I like to use clusters for charging jewelry overnight or when I’m not wearing it. Just drape your jewelry on top. You can charge your jewelry with the properties of the cluster its placed on!

Pendulums:

Pendulums are used for divination. Some also wear their Pendulums as necklaces. Pendulums are a crystal that is carved with a downward pointing tip that is suspended from a chain. They come in never ending variations and are quite beautiful. Some collect Pendulums. You can use them to get answers to questions with the use of a pendulum mat or board or by learning how it communicates. They will go left to right, up and down or in a circular clockwise or counterclockwise motion.

Carvings:

Crystals or stones can be carved into almost anything. Some common carvings include animals, deities, skulls, angels, chalices, offering bowls, mortar and pestles, boxes, etc. They are fun to collect.

Polished Massage Wands:

These are stones or crystals that are polished into the shape of a wand to be used for either massage, in meditation or in crystal healing or energy work.

Single-Terminated Wands:

These are natural or cut and polished points/wands that are used in directing energy, in ritual or in crystal healing. They are often used to make homemade wands and glued to the tips of wood or clay wands for use as a ceremonial wand.

Double-Terminated Wands:

These have a point or termination on both ends, and can be natural or cut and polished into this formation. These are required for use in activation of crystal grids. Also the ideal tool for opening ritual circle or a protective circle or bubbling around yourself or a space.

Crystal Jewelry:

One of my favorite ways to work with the properties of crystals is by wearing them! When looking for crystal jewelry, I recommend getting settings that are open in the back, that allow the crystal to have contact with your skin at all times. This will maximize their effect. They also make little metal cage pendants that allow you to put small crystals or tumbles into it and you can change out the stone as often as you like. If on a budget you can try your hand at wire-wrapping your crystals as well. These can be very simple or quite elaborate depending on your personal preference.

If you are wanting to bring in prosperity and abundance for example, you would look for jewelry in citrine, pyrite or jade. And I recommend wearing quartz every day, as it will both keep your personal vibration high and amplify the properties of any other crystals you are wearing or working with. You can also program clear quartz to act “as if” it was any other crystal. This is unique to clear quartz. Just remember to unprogram it when you are finished working with it. I wear clear quartz always and it’s my can’t live without crystal for sure. Its a great place to start if you are new to crystals and its very common, readily available and inexpensive.

I hope this brief overview has helped you to understand the many many different ways you can work with crystals, and how consciously choosing which type or shape of crystal you work with can help to amplify your intentions. Not to mention all the shapes and varieties are beautiful and stunning in a collection or on display!  Have fun and give one of these a try! Follow your intuition and your heart and it will lead you where you are meant to go.

Crystal of the Month

Yellow Apatite – THE Manifestation Crystal!

When I am doing ANY type of manifestation work or my new moon intentions, I ALWAYS work with yellow or golden apatite. I will pair it with another crystal that is appropriate for the work I’m trying to do. If I’m working on alignment for example, I would pair yellow apatite with blue Kyanite!

Yellow apatite has a hardness of 5 on the MOHS hardness scale and is a calcium phosphate mineral. It’s nae is derived from “to deceive” in Greek, because of it’s ability to look like many other crystals, as it can be blue, green, yellow/gold, brown, or colorless. It comes from Brazil, Burma, Madagascar, Sri Lanka, India, Mexico, Greenland, Canada, and the USA, but the largest known deposit is in Kirovsk, Russia.

Yellow Apatite is a solar plexus chakra stone and is one of the purest crystals of the yellow ray. A stone of strength, mental clarity, and of learning, it enhances confidence and charisma, prosperity and manifestation, of course. It carries the energy of the fire element and is an action stone. Use this when you want to birth a new business venture or creative project.

Create, Manifest and Go Get It!!! This is a vital crystal in everyone’s Crystal Toolbox!

I’m so glad you stopped in to read my column and hope you’ll come back next month. Happy Crystal Hunting!

Crystal Blessings! XOXO Retha

The City Witches

Wow, do we have a Gorgeous Box for you this month! This issue we feature a jam-packed recurring Monthly Subscription Box from The City Witches. Their boxes, called Magick Mail, can be bought one at a time & in 3-month, or 6-month subscriptions. Their prices range from $20 for an individual box to $120 for a subscription. The City Witches offer a new theme each month to their fully packed boxes! This month’s box … Magickal Workings for the Moons of the Month.

Three Informative Grimoire Pages

When you open your box you are greeted with 3 pages for your BOS. The first page describes the Moon Phases for Magickal Workings. Helpful addition to any Spellsbook. The second page teaches, briefly, how to create your own moon spells. The information suggested on this sheet are helpful and handy to have. The third sheet is a Full Moon Chant.

Purple Bag of Goodies

Next thing that catches my eye from my City Witches Box is a Purple Bag full of goodies!

The first thing I pull from the goody bag is a Star Shaped Wooden Incense Burner & it is adorable. I love how it can hold an incense cone and many sticks. This will be perfect in my next moonspell.

Next we have Amber Sugar Scrub Cubes. Opening the jar I find they are in the shapes of roses. Delightful! Just like their smell. I use them on my hands and the feeling I am left with when I dry off is a lovely softness.

The black little bag is Moon in Sagittarius Bath Salts. The smell is heavenly and I can not wait for the time to be right for it’s use. There is enough for a good soak or even two!

The little blue bag is a Mixture of Salts & Herbs to be burned or used in a bath. Unfortunately, I am not sure of it’s exact contents. I can smell lavender & see the salts.

A vial of Virgo Moon Oil is included in the bag of goodies. The bottle is a little tight a difficult to open. However, there seems to be a slight glitter to the oil! Glitter is always good to this Gal!

We get a small Vial of Black Salt. Good to add to the stash of supplies and to work moonmagick with!

A Chunk of Charcoal is included for the Bottle of Full Moon Powder Incense.  It comes out as a tuft, like a cloud from the jar. The smell is light, a slight heed to it’s sweetness. I think, up-to-date, this has been my favorite homemade incense so far. I just wish I knew what was in it.

Last, a few pieces of Sage to keep handy. Never know when you’ll need a quick cleanse. Convenient! It’s like a traveling MoonMagick Bag!

Black Candle

Over 7” tall black Blessed Candle “Drawing Down the Moon” for the New Moon by Coventry Creations, Inc. The candle reads it is for Beginnings, Innocence, and Creativity. The back of the candle explains about what a New Moon is, what it’s opportunity holds for you. This candles packaging is amazing. Not to mention the size they send in this box! But, are you ready for this…

White Candle

Another 7” tall white, this time, Blessed Candle “Drawing Down the Moon” for the Full Moon by Coventry Creations, Inc. The candle reads it is for Magic, Imagination, & Mystery. This candle explains and teaches about the Full Moon. These look very exciting to use.

Sage Smudge Stick

Next up I find SAGE!! A nice hunk of a Smudge Stick! This will last a long time

Clear Glass Bowl

This lovely glass bowl can fit in your hand. It is crystal clear. No blemishes. Beautiful for any altar. I am guessing it is included, being this is a moon box, for maybe moon cleansing. You can clean stones, tools, anything during these meaningful moon moments with your new Altar Bowl.

Three Gemstones in Gauze Bags

In two purple gauze bags you will find 3 large, polished gemstones. The stones are, from left to right; Fluorite, Malachite & Amazonite. The colors are vivid, and the patterns on the stones are sensational.  The sizes they sent are generous.

Huge Moonstone Point

This HUGE, solid, speckled moonstone point is amazing to view and to hold. You can feel the peaceful energy this sizeable piece of stone is bringing. It is a wonderful addition to anyone’s gemstone collection.

Moon Incense Sticks

Included in this recurring Monthly Subscription Box is a large box of HEM “The Moon” scented incense sticks. There are 20 sticks in this box. I’m impressed with the size they have included. Usually I see the smaller size, 5-10 sticks, enclosed in boxes. They are HEM so they are of good quality.

Witch’s Brew Oil

Crafted with Magic! Witch’s Brew Original…by Coventry Creations. Myrrh & Mugwort blend for a scent out of this world. The label reads “Ignite your Magic,” and you can smell the power. This is no cut-price blended oil, but an item made with skill.

Druzzy & Moonstone Necklaces

My next find in this amazing box is another little black box. It’s exciting to find jewelry inside. Not one piece, but two. Two gorgeous necklaces. A Black Druzzy & a Moonstone Point. Each has been placed on cording and ribbon for a lovely effect. On my path I have not worked with any druzzy stones, so I am not sure what their uses are. This is, however, a gorgeous piece, and I will be sure to look into what it’s uses are. The moonstone I do know. This eye-catching, point, suspended in copper is simply luxe.  An elegant way to keep the energy of moonstone with you everyday. They have included two new pieces of ritual jewelry for moon working.

Box of Gemstone Surprises

One more little black box contains a collection of Gemstone Surprises! Hiding in this box we receive another piece of jewelry, a lovely mixed gemstone, beaded bracelet. The beads are of medium size and the bracelet itself is 9 inches and is one size fits all, on stretch cording.

Next up in the box we find two cute moonstones. Perfect for pocket carrying.

Lastly, but not least we have a small selenite wand. Palm size. Shiney. I like the size for travel and easy quick use.

Moon Spell Magic Book

We are getting to the bottom of the box and two things remain…One being a book for our personal libraries on the boxes theme, the moon. Moon Spell Magic: Invocations, Incantations & Lunar Lore for a Happy Life by Cerridwen Greenleaf. The book teaches the lunar calendar and gives spells for every phase, demonstrates how to set up your own lunar altar, informs you about celestial Gods & Goddesses, and includes a plethora of spells & rituals you can perform on your own.

Journal

Stay Focused Because You Totally Got This. We do! Inspiring words outside, and on the heart bedecked inside, it says more…”I look forward to holding any thoughts, dreams, goals, *brilliant ideas, and AMAZING moments…” This box is sure to bring those, and this journal is now ours to record them. All the spells, rituals and things we learn on our way, about the Moon and all it contains. I think it is a lovely book to use as a Moon BOS.

My Overall Impression…

For the first time I am noticing a trend in the packaging everything comes in. There are bits of sage in them. What a beautiful way to cleanse, purify, & bless all you send. Every single gauze bag, small black box, and even the big box everything comes in itself has sage in it! I am very touched.

Now I want to mention the price. This box is bursting at the seams and I cannot believe how little they charge. Could they really be making money here?

I thoroughly loved this box for celebrating the moon. I feel all the contents went with the flow of the Moon Magick theme. I really found it gratifying how the company did not send you just tools and stash to help you celebrate, like candles & incense, or stones and jewelry to harness the moons power. Instead, they went the whole gambit, and by this I mean they sent you a method to really fully learn about the moon. They send you a book & a journal and tell you learn! They rally you to GO FOR IT! Now I have not reviewed the book. I do not know how good it is, but it is a starting point. The 3 BOS pages that are sent are a great starting point, as well…this box doesn’t just give you items, it encourages you!

Who is behind the inspiring Magick Mail Boxes from The City Witches?

None other than Jade Perri & Selene Serket. They were gracious enough to take some time to answer some questions for our readers about Magick Mail Monthly Subscription Boxes, their shop The City Witches, and Themselves. Here’s what they had to say…

PaganPagesOrg: How did the idea for a Monthly Subscription Box come to you?

Jade Perri & Selene Serket: The idea of the Monthly Magic Box, came to us, after subscribing to many ourselves and being unhappy with the contents. To us, getting a box monthly, themed for aiding us in our practice was very exciting. Many people do not have access to a metaphysical store near them, or they do not have the time to go shopping, or they do not know what to buy. It seemed to us, that if you could subscribe to a “magick” box each month, it would automatically come to you, and would contain items you could use to practice-not just a box full of random items. Our box contains relevant items to be used together or separately, all based on a certain theme. It is a nice way to also build up your stock, so you have everything you need, if you chose to use at a later date.

PaganPagesOrg: How did you begin your Boxes?

Jade Perri & Selene Serket: We began with a what we thought was a universal and important part of our craft. The Moon Magick Box. The Moon can represent New Beginnings, so we thought that would be perfect as our first box to introduce.

PaganPagesOrg: How do you choose each Box’s contents?

Jade Perri & Selene Serket: We choose what is in our Monthly Magick, based on the theme of the month. Each box contains approximately 10 items, that are all relevant to the theme. Normally each box’s base contains a ritual, a crystal, herbs or essential oil, items for your home or altar, as well as jewelry, a journal, and candles. Additional items will vary based on the theme of that month.

PaganPagesOrg: How do your Box Subscriptions work?

Jade Perri & Selene Serket: Our box can be purchased monthly, or as a subscription. It is more cost effective to purchase as a subscription box, for example, if you sign up for a 3-month subscription, you pay $75 ($25/per box) instead of $90. If you sign up for a 6-month subscription you pay $120 ($20/per box) versus $180. Boxes can be purchased for $30 individually.

PaganPagesOrg: Who are The City Withes?

Jade Perri & Selene Serket: The City Witches was created by two of us. Selene Serket and Jade Perri.

Selene is a a practicing eclectic High Priestess, who has been practicing for over 30 years. She is an experienced teacher and specializes in numerology, astrology readings, ritual magick, custom spells, and Sabbat rituals. She also has an extensive knowledge of all craft-related topics including Reiki and Chakras. In addition, she offers classes and certifications on many different topics such as A Year and a Day (Year 1-3), Chakra 101, and Crystal Magick. Selene is certified in Wicca High Priestess, Reiki Master and holds various Tarot, Crystal, Herbology and Astrology certifications.

Jade is an eclectic Witch has been practicing for more than 10 years and offers guidance on an array of topics. She specializes in divination from tarot cards, oracle cards, runes, and pendulums, as well as scrying and automatic writing. Jade also practices animal magick, dragon magick, and poppet magick. She is also an enthusiastic teacher and offers classes and certification in many different areas such as tarot classes and dragon magick.

PaganPagesOrg: What do the two of you enjoy besides working in The City Witches 🙂

Jade Perri & Selene Serket: Jade is married with two children and is the manager of her local animal shelter. She enjoys spending time with her family and advocating for homeless animals.

Selene lives with her furry family of 5 Himalayan Cats, she enjoys reading, spending time gardening, continuing her Wiccan Education through classes, and spending time with her friends.

PaganPagesOrg: What did you feel the Pagan community was missing to make you put your Box out?

Jade Perri & Selene Serket: We felt that with the options people have out there for monthly boxes, we wanted to design a box that was useful , fun, and educational. We wanted to really give our clients the best quality box for an affordable price. We also are lucky enough to work with other small businesses, such as Enchanted Reeveries, who provides items handmade from polymer clay, as well as Valessence Skin Care, who provide handmade bath products. We also include our own brand of handmade candles and essential oils.

We do not use printed boxes, or spend extra money on packaging, however, our boxes are stocked with everything they need for the month. What we save on packaging, we give back to our clients-each and every box contains additional free surprise gifts as a Thank You, to our customers.

The other option we offer, is that we do not pull our boxes once the month is up. They are available to our customers at any time. This is very helpful to customers, if they are unable to purchase during the month, they will not miss out-and can purchase anytime throughout the year.

Thank you Jade Perri & Selene Serket for this great interview. Your Magick Mail Subscription Boxes definitely live up to what you desired them to be and that is to all our benefit.

The BOHO Box

The BOHO Box is a recurring monthly box subscription full of surprises like beautiful boho jewelry, natural beauty products and cosmetics, essential oil-based perfumes, incense, crystals, candles… and surprise gifts like dreamcatchers or leather journals. Their boxes are $39.95 a month.

Right now they are only shipping within the United States, but if you join their Newsletter you get 10% off your first box!

The BOHO Box has sent us a box to review…so let’s get right to it.

The Box Arrives…

The BOHO Box comes in a completely plain brown outer box. This is great news to me. Though I am out of the broom closet (and you can find me kissing the tree in front of my house when I borrow from it) I favor this due to the fact that many are in the broom closet and you never know about nosy neighbors seeing things on your front doorstep.

However…

Inside this box is another box and the beginning of the goodies! This box is beautifully decorated with their logo and states proudly “The BOHO Box”. You also pull out your first gifts that give you an inkling of what your box will be like.

First, A Bumper Sticker that states “Follow the Moon”. Nice, bright, and simple. You can put it on your car, altar, or anywhere.

Next, you pull out a real delight that makes you think. A gorgeous, handcrafted mask. With glorious plumage. The jewels around the eyes give it a festive effect. Great for Samhain, a party, or a fun ritual/spell.

Now I’m really curious. Let’s open this box and really dig in!

Included Papers

When the box with The BOHO Box business logo on top is opened you are greeted by a purple wax sealed letter. There are 2 pages to the letter. The first page is a letter that states all the goings on within the company and is very interesting. It tells you the topic of the Box for the month. Our Topic: Moon Goddess! The first letter goes on to detail all that is held within the box and what everything is used for.

The second page is information on different Moon Goddesses from all over the world. (Pictured in full box photo later.)

The letters are printed on beautiful parchment paper. The wax seal adds an elegant touch.

Spooky & Elegant Rhinestone Spider Bracelet

Who would like a spider bracelet? I would! Especially one like this! Elegant is definitely the word for this bracelet. The rhinestones have a wonderful crystal-like feel. Sturdy, not cheaply made or flimsy. The design is gorgeous. Clasps on easily. No fear of falling off. The way it clasps it seems to be able to fit multiple size wrists.

Wild & Free Boho Crescent Moon Layer Necklace

This decorative necklace has a very creative design. It harnesses the moons power in many creative fashions. It definitely has a wild & free feel to it. The short part of the necklace has a choker feel to it, while the long piece gives you a lariat effect. Both work together to give a wonderful appearance.

Anointing Oil Formulated for Rituals & Spells

Given to us is Samhain Anointing Oil for Rituals & Spells by one of the most trusted and best Pagan companies known to us online shoppers, Azure Green. It smells wonderful, like nutmeg and cloves.

Boho Ring with Mandala Inspired Design

It’s Large in design size and very pretty. But it’s hard to send a ring. The finger size is average to small. It didn’t fit me or my young niece. I did find someone for it to fit and she loves it. So that makes me very happy because it really is a very pretty piece. I can see how difficult it is to include a ring in a box. It’s a wonderful idea, though.

Black Pouch Containing Gemstones

The black velvet pouch contains 3 raw stones, this means they are not polished down to smooth stones. You get the in their raw energies. The stones are a Black Obsidian, which has a glorious shine to it. An Amethyst and a Moonstone. They are all sparkly, huge pieces. The reasons for sending them and their correspondences are listed on the papers sent.

The Moon Incense Cones

The Moon Incense are from HEM which is a company, if you burn incense on a regular basis, you may know well. They are a great company. Well known and trusted. The scent is relaxing when burned, it gives a clean aroma.

Celtic Inspired Crescent Moon Pendant

Beautiful moon with lovely markings. Almost looks like marcasite. The three bulbs could represent the triple goddess. Choker length. Good medium size.

Silver Nail Polish to Mirror your Jewelry

Now that you shine with your new jewelry, your beautiful mask, and your fully anointed, why not have your nails shine, too!! This is a full size bottle of Silver, shiny polish. Not sample sized. It’s silver, also, not like foil, or a gray.

Moonstone Pendulum

Good weight. The peachy color to the pendulum is delicious. The gemstones that run up the chain are brilliant shades. The gemstone chips on the balancing side of the pendulum are a very pretty touch.

Cloth Pendulum Mat

As if a pendulum was not enough, a pendulum mat was sent! I have not seen one of these. I am used to seeing pendulum worksheets on paper. This is a thick cloth. The bottom side has a grip type fabric to it. The top is made of a velvet type fabric. It is a lot fun to work with. We tried it with those new to the pendulum and those who are old hands at the pendulum and they both enjoyed it.

Starry Forest Card to be Framed

A beautiful picture is sent to inspire you. It is of the night sky in the forest. The stars in the background look as if they glow. The picture is for you to save and frame or just hang. It really is breathtaking.

Personal Oracle Card Reading

I found this reading to be something rather incredible because it hit right on what I was going through at the moment. Without the round about mumbo jumbo that could fit any situation. It spoke to me directly. Also, sage advice was given.

The card that was drawn for you, is given to you to keep. The deck the card is taken from is beautiful. The advice is given on parchment paper. I found this part of the box to be the most inspirational.

Over All Impression…

I think The BOHO Box had me from the wax seal! No wait, the mask! It spoke of surprise and whimsy ahead. Boy did they deliver! Each turn had a new surprise and unique gift. This box made me shine in so many ways. It made me feel pretty and good inside and out!

The jewelry and polish made me shine & glow on the outside. The incense and stones had me feeling good spiritually. The pendulum, pendulum mat & anointing oil The BOHO Box provided helped me to be more spiritual in my everyday life.

Now this reading The BOHO Box sent me. Honestly, it blew me away. I don’t know how they did it. How they can give a personal reading to touch everyone in a subscription box, but they do. It was personally addressed to me, by name and all. I am very, very impressed. The box is only $39.95 and for all you get, I find this a very fair price.

So who is behind The BOHO Box? Her name is Diana Price and she took some time from her very busy schedule to talk with us at PaganPagesOrg about The BOHO Box and more.

PaganPagesOrg: What brought the idea of The BOHO Box to you?

Diana Price: Even before I discovered that the box subscription phenomena was a real “thing,” I thought it would be cool to create a subscription to some kind of box filled with things to pamper people and make then feel good. Then I discovered a lot of people were already doing that and became a subscriber to a box myself.

When that box arrived every month, I was downright giddy. That great feeling inspired me to get serious and do it myself. I have many interests, mainly metaphysical, but I was building a boho lifestyle blog and decided to go with The Boho Box first. Ironically, that boho site is being revamped because I discovered that “gypsy” is considered a racial slur, so The Soul of a Gypsy has to be completely rebranded. Fortunately, The Boho Box also has a separate site/domain.

I’ve also secured domains and social media for an astrology box and may try to create one for my jewelry/metaphysical store, The Midnight Rose, but I’m still learning the ropes with The Boho Box. One at a time…

PaganPagesOrg: How did you begin the process of the subscription?

Diana Price: I joined up on groups with others doing subscription boxes to learn as much as possible and signed up with the selling platform Cratejoy, but the costs of it are high, so I am trying to funnel subscribers directly to my site with the hope of reducing the cost.

I already had a list of suppliers from trying to launch online stores in the past and a small store on my Tarot and Horoscopes site, so I had the resources for the products already.

PaganPagesOrg: How do you choose what to put inside the boxes?

Diana Price: I try to choose monthly themes and sort of match things up, but this last month I think I got a little too caught up in that. I had found these gorgeous crystal lotuses, then choose very sparkly jewelry to go along with it. It didn’t go over so well, so lesson learned…. stay BOHO!

I still try to keep with a theme because ideally I want all the jewelry pieces to work together so people can layer, but check myself to make sure I stay in line with the boho style.

After the jewelry pieces are selected, I browse through my suppliers and start filling in the other goodies. I’m also wanting to create more handcrafted items starting with the February box.

Basically, I try to create a box I’d love and get excited about opening.

PaganPagesOrg: Is The BOHO Box a recurring monthly box subscription?

Diana Price: Yes, it’s a monthly subscription.

PaganPagesOrg: Are you, yourself a pagan?

Diana Price: Yes, although I tend to be a bit of a closeted one, not talking much about that or my tarot and astrology interests with many casual friends because I’ve been burned in the past by that. Many years ago I worked night shift in a nursing home and would bring books to read in the downtime, often on metaphysical topics. I found out from co-workers the Southern Baptist charge nurse was telling everyone I worshiped the devil and didn’t know it, and even said “Suffer not a witch to live.”

I was devastated. Unfortunately, many who visit your site will probably have a similar story.

I’m working on being more open about my pagan and Gothic sensibilities. I’m currently on a travel nurse job in Charleston, SC, and as I was driving around, I realized my style and the vibe I REALLY want for my new store and jewelry line, The Midnight Rose, is more witchy southern Gothic and I need to fully embrace that. I had been sort of “mainstreaming” the jewelry line and avoiding anything too pagan or dark, but that’s who I am and I need to embrace it.

PaganPagesOrg: What are some of your interests?

Diana Price: I love to travel, although preferably without the nightmare of a temp job I’m currently on, and love photography, tarot, and I’ve been doing paranormal investigations. I’m also getting serious about candle-making and natural beauty products as well as jewelry design.

I’m quite the foodie, so I’m trying to cram in as much fine dining as possible while in Charleston and I’m taking next weekend to visit Savannah. I’m sure I’ll return inspired!

PaganPagesOrg: Do you sell other products?

Diana Price: Yes, as I touched on, The Midnight Rose will be selling more than jewelry when it’s fully up and running – also new and vintage clothing, custom candles, herbs, natural beauty products, and Victorian/Southern Gothic gifts as well as tarot readings and astrology charts/reports. I’ve also started designing a line of Semicolon jewelry for suicide awareness.

PaganPagesOrg: Is there anything else you would like to add about yourself or your boxes?

Diana Price: Like many other box businesses, I’m just a small, “mom and pop” operation, but I take each box personally and always try to deliver a lot of value and something that makes people happy. I think that’s especially important right now in these dark times we’re living in. I believe one of the best ways to fight back against that darkness is to spread as much light and positivity into the world as possible.

I’d like to thank Diana Price for talking with us and I wish her so much prosperity on her endeavors. I know I can not wait to see her new ideas. If they are anything like The BOHO Box I know they will be great!!

Review of WitchBox

(WitchBox Logo)

What is a WitchBox exactly? According to WitchBox it is:

A subscription service for pagan witches based on the Wheel of the Year. A box ships every 6 weeks, 10-12 days before the sabbat.”

What this means is that every 6 weeks you will pay a recurring fee of $85 + $10 shipping and you will receive a new Sabbat Box to help you celebrate the upcoming holiday.

There are two versions of these boxes. The $85 WitchBox is called the Major Arcana and is filled with all the Bells & Whistles. They do, however, have a lesser priced Sabbat Box subscription, called the Minor Arcana, and this subscription is only $40 + $7 shipping. This box contains, it seems, a little more than half of what the Major Arcana has.

PaganPagesOrg has received the Major Arcana Box to celebrate the Sabbat of Lughnasadh/Lammas and we will be reviewing this box for our readers.

(Sealed Package)

The package arrives in a nondescript, plain, brown box. The only writing visible on the box are the addresses. The box does not come addressed from WitchBox but from the owner of the company’s name Jessica White. Their is no logo or pagan symbolism on the outside of the packaging. This is perfect for those who are still in the broomcloset.

(Freshly Opened)

Upon opening the box my first thoughts were It looks tidy, neat, and organized. The first item you notice is a beautiful card. It definitely brings to mind the sabbat we are celebrating, Lughnasadh/Lammas. When you turn over the card there is a handwritten note. A very personal touch.

(Personal Note)

The second item you notice is a piece of paper. This is the Items List and explains what you will find contained within the box.

(WitchBox Logo Sticker and Packaging)

After you lift the Items List off the top of the box you see the true package begin. The W., WitchBox logo sticker holding together the deep blue tissue paper is an elegant touch to what I am about to find to be a beautifully layered package.

(Scrolls)

Layer one contains a majority of the items. It begins with the 2 Scrolls. There is information on both sides of each sheet. They have a nice antiqued feel to them. There is a pleasant aroma coming from the paper. The paper has been antiqued but it has not weakened the feeling of the paper it still feels substantial. They’d be a nice addition to any Book of Shadows. Their Topics include:

Page 1:

Information about the Holiday.

to the Holiday…Gods/Goddesses, Crystals, Herbs,etc..

Page2:

Late Summer Sigil & Poppet Spell

Lughnasadh/Lammas Blessed Bread Charm

(Wrapped Items in Layer One)

Removing the scrolls reveals the rest of layer one which is filled with individually wrapped items, like little gifts. Each beautifully wrapped in blue paper with the W. logo stickers.

(Contents of Layer 1)

The first item I unwrap is a Candle. It is calming & nicely scented. Very smooth to the touch. All items are handmade in WitchBox and the candle looks well handcrafted. The Chamomile is clearly visible in the candle. It is a nice full size not a tiny votive like some would expect.

Next I opened the necklace. It is very pretty but not very precious. However, the value lies inside. It opens up to reveal a good amount of Flying Ointment. It is their recipe. It has the consistency of Vaseline and a soothing scent.

(Contents of Layer 1 Opened)

The last two little packages to open is a Bottle of Incense based on Scott Cunningham’s recipe for Lughnasadh and a Self-Igniting Charcoal Disc. Jessica White clearly states on the Item’s List that it is Scott’s recipe and NOT her own.

The incense is placed in a nice corked, glass bottle that allows you to save and reuse the generous amount they send you. The bottle is even labeled on top with the holiday so you will always know what it is for. The self-igniting charcoal disc is a well thought out accompaniment.

I

(Three Panel Sigil Chain)

Layer two opens to reveal one item, the Three Panel Sigil Chain made with kiln-fired birch rounds seems a bit…well birch is birch, and being birch it is delicate. I thought maybe the panels should be thicker so the chains don’t split through the wood. Even though it seems a bit fragile, I believe if I am careful some paint and some free flowing ideas, a beautiful sigil it will make.

(Dried Corn Husk & Blueberry Sprig)

Layer three is the last layer and contains a Dried Corn Husk Bundle for Making Corn dolly with a Wild Blueberry Sprig. It came in such a neatly, tied bundle packaged in the bottom of the box. I like the idea of including a craft in the collection. Something you can, yourself make. It can be a great altar or house decoration. You could also use it to connect with your children and teach them about the sabbat by creating the Corn Dolly with your child. The only thing I might do different is include instructions on how to create a corn dolly, but those could easily be found on Pinterest, doing a Google Search, or other sites.

(Entirety of Box)

Our Overall Thoughts on WitchBox… It’s a great box, with a very professional, put together look. The layers were tidy and added excitement to opening the package.

It is definitely filled with items to help you celebrate the Sabbat of the month in the correct fashion. For us it was Lughnasadh/Lammas and I felt every item pertained to the celebration. From information about the sabbat, to spells and rituals you can perform. It gives you materials to correspond with the holiday to use in any of your own workings, a lovely item to make into an altar decoration, and a fun craft to do.

The box does not come with instructions on what to do with the items it contains, that is up to you, what you would like to use them for. For example, you may use the incense in a ritual for the sabbat. It does come with a full comprehensive list of what is in the box, though, and the ingredients are listed for items which is very helpful to know.

The quality of the items is very good, like the large, beautiful smelling candle or the handmade incense. The only thing I mentioned is the birch circles could have been thicker. But overall everything is of very high quality.

Though the box may seem a bit pricey, I do understand why this box would cost as it does. In this business you must spend on packaging and supplies to be able to make your goods. Then there is the crafting/labor side that you do not get paid fairly for. Plus as Jessica White mentions (in the short interview to come), she is out daily foraging for her supplies. That adds even more labor you barely see compensation for. There are a lot of natural pieces in this box, the herbs in the incense, the wild blueberries, the herbs in the candle, the herbs in the flying ointment. The box is almost 100% handcrafted, and as we know handcrafters are never paid fairly.

If you are a witch with the financial means, a monthly subscription to WitchBox for $85 will not hurt your finances. It does come with items for the sabbat you would have to buy or could buy to celebrate the holiday, anyway. Their is a $40 version of WitchBox. It gives you a bit less, of what the $85 box contains. It contains some of the same items, so I am confident in saying they will be of great quality, as well. I would suggest going with the $85 box, however. You really do get more bang for your buck. You can check out both boxes here on WitchBox and decide for yourself.

WitchBox, I feel, is a reputable company PaganPagesOrg can stand behind.

So who is behind WitchBox and all the creative goodies inside?

Jessica White is the Founder & Sole Proprietor of WitchBox.co and an etsy store front, WhiteWitchhh, selling witchcraft supplies.

We recently had the opportunity to ask Jessica White a few questions about herself and her businesses.

PaganPagesOrg(PPO): Can you tell us a little about yourself. Where you are from? What path do you follow?

Jessica White(JW): I’m a Pagan witch and Massachusetts native. My family has been in Massachusetts since 1715, so I feel a strong connection to the early colonists of the new world who lived off the land, but there’s an old world element to my practice as well.

PPO: How do you choose what goes into each Sabbat Box?

JW: The contents of each WitchBox depend on what the earth provides in the weeks before each sabbat. The contents are also based on research I do in various compendia of Celtic and Anglo Saxon writings, Ronald Hutton’s research (and combing through his sources as well), and the needs of a modern witch.

In many ways, New England serves as a cultural bridge between the old world and new. In the Americas, many of us in the new world have lost touch with our agrarian roots through the generations, so we crave the folklore, traditions, and mysticism of our ancestors. The goal of WitchBox is to get subscribers closer to the land and the seasons, and to walk in our ancestors’ footsteps in the modern day. I serve as your mediator with the land: I forage in the wild on an almost daily basis, respectfully harvest what Mother Earth provides in that season, and I use the wild materials in every WitchBox.

PPO: How did the idea for WitchBox come about?

JW: I had the idea for WitchBox when someone on tumblr posted about wanting a witch subscription service. It was totally a “Eureka!” moment. Having seasonal affective disorder, I’ve always been very connected to the seasons, so I took the idea a step further and based WitchBox on the Wheel of the Year.

Interview with Evernia Fay

Interview with Evernia Fay: The life & Craft of this Connecticut Witch are One

Moss, dirt, lichen, bones, crystals, bark and a cicada all find their way into one-of-a-kind living botanical pendants made by Evernia Fay. Each contains its own spirit and energies.

Quest,” composed of mountain fork moss and Queen Anne’s lace with an amethyst point, is a talisman that brings balance, according to Fay’s website, by integrating “the wisdom and magick of the dreamtime into your life. She connects what you learn into your waking time.”

Broken fork moss with a triple scepter quartz makes up “Birth” – “a manifestation miracle” with power flowing through her crystal heart.

Starman” – a combination of earth and meteorite – will connect the wearer with the cosmic energies and higher vibrations, expanding energies from the base chakra, up and outward.

There are dozens more to choose from.

As a child, Fay was drawn to nature.

From the time I was little … I was always collecting things from nature and doing little rituals,” she said.

The moon always fascinated her.

Especially around full moons. I would be more sensitive to spirits and other things outside. I don’t think I had imaginary friends when I was a kid, I think they were spirits. I think I was maybe 3 when I saw the first one in my room at night.

All the other kids thought I was weird, thought I was different. I didn’t really have a lot of friends. I did a lot of stuff on my own out in the woods. I used to go out and get different things from plants and tree sap and make different topical salves for cuts and scrapes. I don’t think I made anything that I ate.”

She played with bees and snakes and communicated with stones and trees.

As an adult, she continues to spend much time in the woods and wanted to be able to keep a part of it with her.

I wanted something I could wear for myself, so I came up with the idea … of a living terrarium.”

It began with a small locket from a craft store that she could put something in. So many people liked the picture of it she posted on Facebook, she started making them. Now they are encased in silver mixed metals and acrylic.

Wear the earth and carry her energy with you,” became the product’s tagline.

Items are collected from nature in a sustainable fashion after asking permission and, if it’s for magical use, leaving something as an offering.

Moss is a simple plant – its leaves are only one cell thick and it has no root system like other plants, she states on her website. It creates its nutrients from sunlight using photosynthesis. It is versatile and resilient; it can dry out completely yet remain alive, “springing up and enabling the reproduction process when soaked with water. It can be frozen for long periods of time and thaw fully awake and green.”

Lichens are related to moss – both having evolved from algae. It is a combination of algae and fungus and thus able to survive in places one or the other alone could not.

I am always drawn to the mosses and lichens when I hike. I love rubbing my bare feet on moss patches and drying my feet on the mossy banks of streams,” Fay wrote. “I can picture myself lying on a bed on moss under the trees deep in the woods, dreaming and breathing in all of the scents of the forest. I find moss very grounding. The lichens catch my attention and create a feeling of connection.”

Fay associates protection, connection, relationship, authenticity, versatility, resilience, renewal, rebirth, freedom and travel with moss and lichen. She sees them as magical beings with a connection to the ancients.

The jewelry she makes with them can be found on her website, thewildfay.com. She also sells at events, primarily in Connecticut and Massachusetts, but also at other festivals in the Northeast.

I addition, Fay crafts charms and talismans using Frozen Charlotte dolls. The small Victorian-era china bisque dolls were made in Germany from 1850-1920 and got their name because they are pale and rigid, as if they were a girl who had frozen to death. Hers were excavated from the remains of factories in Nuremberg that had been bombed and ransacked. They are dated from 1860-1890.

She made “Charlotte Rue,” a protection talisman, using rue and other herbs. She has snakeskin at her base and is wrapped in black ribbon. She was made on a Saturday, anointed with oil and is associated with the energies of Saturn._

Charlotte Eve” is holding a bundle of mugwort and other herbs. Anointed with oil and wrapped in white ribbon, she has a protective spirit charm attached. She was made on Monday and carries the energies of the moon.

Other charms are made with doll hands that are anointed with oils for the specific days and planetary influences. They have veins and ribbon in the associated colors of the days and influence. Charged with an intended purpose, “Helping Hands” offer such outcomes as protection, finding lost articles, controlling emotions and monetary gain.

Her newest creation – launched in late May – are handmade herbal pendants and pocket pieces: one for prosperity and one for new beginnings.

They are made on the specific day for the most potent energies, with the appropriate herbs and/or oils and are made during the waxing moon in order to increase the desired purpose,” she said.

She prepared the herbs, and made the clay.

Instructions to personally charge them will be included,” she said.

Pieces for additional purposes were in the works.

They, too, can be found on her website and at shows.

Fay talked about her life, recalling a time when she tried to “fit in” with the mainstream. She said she gave up after “a lot of really bad stuff happened. … I lost myself.”

About 14, she began reading books on paganism, witchcraft and the occult, and everything seemed to make sense.

I started with basic candle and crystal magic, divination and nature work. I found that I could cause street lights to turn off at will as I passed. .

When I was in college, there was a girl who was interested in witchcraft, so we made up our own rituals.”

For the most part, she depended on her intuition and books to guide her along her path.

After practicing as solitary for a long time, earlier this year, she took an oath and joined a coven, The Society of Witchcraft and Old Magick, and noted, “Our path incorporates both ceremonial [high] and folk [low] magick.”

She wrote in a blog post, “Witchcraft in and of itself is a practice and a craft. It is not necessarily a religion. Magick is a science. I am pagan and I am a witch.”

People who are interested in witchcraft and look into it and start working with it will decide either they are or they aren’t [a witch]. I don’t think it’s as much of a practice as something you are, that you find, or that finds you,” she said. “I was born this way.”

Once she began creating magickal, energetic things, she said, everything fell into place. She began living her craft. And that, she said, is when the real magic happens.

I keep thinking of what I want to start doing,” Fay said of creating witch balls and “all these other … magically and spelly kinds of things.”

CRYSTAL TALISMANS AND AMULETS

(Pictured here are a few of my older pieces. Image courtesy: Shijewels https://www.etsy.com/shop/shijewels)

Talismans and amulets are often pieces or objects that are believed to be protective, magical or bare a special importance to the wearer. They have been around throughout history and were often made from crystals by witches, shamans and alchemists.

Throughout the stages of my own spiritual path I have worn pieces that held significant meaning to me, some for the symbols that represent my love for the Goddess, my spirituality, and others for the metaphysical assistance that I needed from the stones. Each one has it’s own unique qualities and symbolizes a specific period of time in my journey.

The Moonstone and Turquoise ring was made with a purpose, I make and sell jewelry so I felt it was vital to have something that helped me with self doubt, focus and creativity. Moonstones are known to intensify the feminine Goddess energy, strengthens intuition and enhances creativity. It’s said that this stone brings balance, harmony and hope to those that wear it. Though Turquoise is a protective stone, it also helps dispel any self-sabotaging tendencies as well as assisting in creative expression. I made this ring to wear on my middle finger, which is ruled by Saturn and is related to our purpose in life. It’s also believed that wearing a ring on this finger supports focus and staying true to your own path.

The necklace with the three charms is probably one of my oldest and certainly the most beloved talisman that I have. The spiral represents my journey, the moonstone represents my intuitiveness and connection to the feminine Divine and the Pentacle represents the heart of it all. Three small very simple charms that hold deeply personal and powerful meanings.

These are just a handful of amulets and talismans that I’ve owned over the years. I’ve purchased some, been gifted a few and have made the rest, each one playing a significant roll in my life. As my life changes so have they, and I look forward to what new pieces I’m called to or that are called to me.

Labradorite

Labradorite belongs to the same mineral family (feldspar) as Sunstone, Larvikite, Spectrolite, and Moonstone. If the protecting feeling from this stone doesn’t draw you in then the jaw dropping rainbow of colors surely will.

Not only are these beauties protective, but they also heighten our ability to focus on personal issues without letting outside influences affect us. They allow us to work on our spiritual, mental and emotional selves by ridding us of any previous negative patterns. This stunning mineral is a potent magickal stone of transformation with its ability to awaken and heighten our mental and intuitive abilities.

It’s often suggested to place Labradorite on your Third Eye during meditation to receive visions of the future. I usually wear a large piece on a long chain because of it’s ability to balance and protect the aura. I also find that I’m drawn to wear this crystal when I’m needing a little boost of spiritual strength and grounding energies. Whether Labradorite calls to you for its metaphysical properties or for its beauty alone, definitely add this stone to your collection. No two are alike and you will be in a constant state of awe each time it flashes its brilliant colors at you.
