May – Blessed Beltane

Blessed Beltane! May your fields be well watered, may you never thirst, and may you never hunger. This time of year, makes me happy as I watch everything coming from the earth in full bloom while love and kindness are awakening from the long winter scowls and slowly turning into deliberate smiles. We are all warming up! Finally. And, along with the warmth returning, the Green Man emerges. The King Stag comes in search of the Maiden. The need fires burn and the flames of passion are fanned. It’s time to sow the seeds we have carefully nurtured during the dark days from Samhain to Yule and planted at Imbolc.

As Beltane approaches, I find myself drawn by the Divine Masculine. I have only one Matron who I venerate, yet the pull toward being thankful for the Divine Masculine has its place in my walk. I chant the masculine chants to pay homage to that Divine Force and I place move my athame to a focal position on my Beltane ritual altar. I seek and strive to find balance, reinforcing my connection to the Divine Masculine and the beauty and the commitment of The Great Rite.

The first week of May, I wanted to convey the spirit of the Divine Masculine and utilize this space to journal every day about the aspects of the Divine Masculine, the Horned God, the King Stag in my everyday life and workings. It was a layout that I challenged myself to complete without influence of others. I did not rely on graphics that I found on the internet. Instead, I carefully birthed the Greenman. He looks here in my first week layout as the Greenman who resides in my heart, the one who beckons me to sow the seeds that I have nurtured.

Of course, May Day/Beltane, really the entire month of May, would not be complete without a dance around the May Pole and the beauty of the fae. Spring and the planting season, to me, are a combination of fun, frivolity, and making merry. The happier I am when my hands are in the soil, the happier the energy I am putting into my crops. Seed work this year has been difficult and this layout is helping me to see that even flowers grow through dirt and “difficulty” is not “impossibility.”

As mid-May approaches, I am drawn toward the growth of the seeds that I have planted, which brings my thoughts to the Great Rite. Love blossoming, seeds being planted, new life emerging. All of these acts of love and commitment are in some form a symbolic “Great Rite.” I utilized washi on the bottom that reads “HELLO” and in my view, the inflection when reading that washi tape is everything! It varies from “HELLOOO?” to “HELLO!” and I’m practicing noticing the smaller details more and more…hoping this makes me use the latter more than the former!

This Spring is a busy one for me, spiritually, as I am doing things that I had previously only dreamed about doing. I am facing the stark reality, in my Crone years, that in this life we have one of two things…we either have results or we have reasons. I am reflecting on a lifetime of reasons and a lot of results. It is not time to put those results into action and have them far outweigh the reasons. This final layout in May is not devoid of graphics because I’m being lazy, rather, it is devoid of graphics because I plan to do that on the last week of every month to utilize this space to pull the energies from the weeks prior into the final week and keep track of my accomplishments. This is the beauty of using a planner as a working BOS, I can change it up to suit my needs.

I wish you all a bountiful harvest!

Crystals to Bring Abundance & Prosperity for May

Hi all! If you weren’t aware, May is THE most important and magical month for prosperity work. May is the 5th month and 5 in numerology is the number representing abundance. Think of the herb Cinquefoil (aka five finger grass)…this is one of the very best herbs for prosperity because it has 5 blades or fingers. The number 5 also represents the four cardinal directions plus spirit. When working with crystals (or any tool) it is always beneficial to layer or stack correspondences.

are any material, tool, or theme you use in addition to your practice. Some examples are using numerology, colors, herbs, symbols, working with Gods or Goddesses, oils, etc. The more layers the more potent the magic! I highly suggest adding some correspondences to your prosperity or abundance work this month.

I will get you started with the stones and crystals that will help draw abundance to you, but the skies the limit to what else you want to add to bump up your May prosperity work. May 5th is the day considered the most powerful (5/5) and if you can set your intentions and say a prayer at 5:55 either AM or PM on 5/5 that’s optimal. I set up an abundance altar for the year every year on 5/5. This is a place you can keep your prosperity crystals in a grid, some items to represent the 4 directions, and maybe a statue or offering to lakshmi or Ganesha.

I encourage you to get creative and keep in mind the most important component is your intention. So please don’t feel hindered if you don’t have all the tools. You could create a drawing, write a poem, create a sigil, etc. to add to your altar and honestly the things you create yourself are the most powerful tools of all! That being said, I highly believe that working with crystals are very important and effective. Read on to see which are my go-to prosperity & abundance bringing stones. Since I have written about many of these crystals in past columns I will keep the descriptions short and to the point. I encourage you to work with as many of these crystals as you can.

Congo Citrine/Citrine:

All natural Citrine is amazing for prosperity work, but my very favorite and the most effective in my opinion is Congo Citrine. It’s also more likely to be the real deal….meaning not heat treated amethyst which most Citrine you see is. When it has that unnatural orange tone it’s usually heat treated amethyst. Nothing wrong with using heat treated stones, but keep in mind you will be working with amethyst properties rather than Citrine properties if you use it. Congo Citrine looks and feels very different than treated Citrine. Citrine is the most common & popular prosperity stone and for good reason. Citrine is revered for ensuring prosperity of all kinds and attracting wealth to you. Citrine can even release any energetic blockages to prosperity, even from past lifetimes! It is known as “the merchants stone” and “the success stone”. Working with Citrine will help you to feel worthy of prosperity and open energy streams of abundance. If you can only acquire one prosperity crystal, this would be a wise and effective choice. I recommend for you to wear Citrine daily if possible, and to place a small piece of it in your wallet.

Yellow Apatite:

This is my go-to favorite crystal for ANY type of manifesting. I pair this with other stones to amplify the manifestation of the other stones properties. If I can pair this powerhouse with all the prosperity stones I can gather that would be optimal. Yellow apatite helps you positively use your personal power to achieve your goals. It stimulates the intellect and mental clarity. It also inspires passion and hope. Yellow apatite aids in developing assertiveness and courage. It also clears away confusion and apathy to help you expand. It is great to use when starting new ventures as it increases your drive to accomplish. Pretty amazing crystal right?

Pyrite:

Pyrite is also known as “fool’s gold”, it literally looks like a gemmy hunk of gold. The color gold represents prosperity, so naturally pyrite is a perfect crystal to use in prosperity work. It’s a stone of possibilities. It is the ultimate symbol of wealth and good luck. It enhances motivation and increases your potential. It’s a stone of action and stimulates the flow of ideas. It helps you to follow things through to completion. Inspires creativity, clarity, focus and determination. When used in its natural cubic formation it also represents the four cardinal directions.

Green Jade:

Green Jade is the ultimate good luck charm. It’s been highly prized for thousands of years. This stone helps you to discover negative patterns that are holding you back from fulfilling your potential. It represents vitality, physical growth, expansion and new beginnings. Jade allows the divine to enhance circumstances of life to allow good fortune to naturally flow into your life. Amazing stone.

Green Aventurine:

This is the stone of growth. Growth of everything you wish to grow, including wealth & abundance. This is the “get it” stone. Use this to help bring about your intentions. The “stone of personal growth” will help you to grow into the best version of yourself and achieve your dreams. This is a go-to stone for any type of money magic and is commonly put in cash drawers or boxes to draw money in. This is a good luck stone. Green aventurine attracts luck, success and abundance of all kinds.

Tigers Eye:

Tigers Eye is a stone that helps you have the willpower and confidence to achieve success and therefore the abundance that you seek. Its a very multi-dimensional stone. It gives you the tools you need to shift your outlook and gain a deeper understanding of yourself. It is a stone of discernment. With a deeper awareness you will have the confidence to explore and pursue new possibilities. Tigers eye strengthens your motivation. It gives you courage. It is a stone of physical action, giving you the momentum to take the necessary steps to achieve your goals. It pushes you out of your comfort zone. In order to gain the abundance we wish for, we need to get up and ACT. This stone has your back!

Peridot:

This beautiful green crystal is also known as the cornucopia stone. It’s an increase or growth generator, helping to manifest and increase abundance in all areas of life. It increases profits in trades and is a talisman of good luck. It helps instill confidence in ones own abilities and helps establish a sense of self-worth. It also removes blockages that can hinder success or growth.

In general, if you aren’t sure which crystals to use for abundance, using crystals in the colors of green and gold is a great place to start. I would like to mention a few other very important crystals you might want to acquire at some point (these are more expensive & harder to find- but wishlist worthy!). These honorable mentions are cavansite, pentagonite, and hessonite garnet. There are many more common and accessible honorable mentions as well, such as ruby, emerald, and moss agate.

I hope you will try working with some, or all of these very useful and powerful stones, both this magic money month and throughout the year. Using your crystals as aids to manifest your dreams and desires are what your crystals are here to do. They want to be worked with and used, so if you have some sitting in a drawer somewhere, go pull it out and tap into the magic! Happy May!

May is all about Joy!

So far we have looked at the first four of our year of values. January’s simplicity, February’s love, March’s order and April’s Faith moves us into May’s joy!

Joy can seem very superficial but to feel deep contentment and grounding is joy at the core of our being. Do you sometimes feel guilty for being happy when so much heartache surrounds us? It is easy to join in the chorus of “woe is me” when everyone around us is complaining. And with the terrible economy and job losses there are serious issues facing us and those we know.

Fear is quick to steal joy. So is negativity of any kind. If we believe in the rede of Harm None, doesn’t that include harm to ourselves? I think so. I also believe that thoughts held in mind produce after their kind. I can choose how to interpret the life I lead day to day.

I have to force myself to refrain from reading the political and financial news these days.  I feel strongly about this country and the upholding of the constitution. It is what gives us the freedom to express our beliefs openly in our daily round as well as in publications such as this.  I believe in being not only a good steward to our Mother Gaia but also a good steward of our finances. There is doom and gloom everywhere! We are at a point where our family is prepared physically and financially to thrive. I do not want my joy stolen from me each time I listen to the news or read an article. I have done everything possible to be a good parent and partner and I choose to walk each day in peace and joy!

May reminds me that there is a larger world of spirit that envelops us all. Beltane is perfect for celebrating the incredible life force rising!  Joy just bursting out all over!

  • for food with springs abundance showing is wonderful.

Cooking with fresh vegetables is a must now that the farmer’s markets are starting. Just eat dandelions and sweet violets in a salad. Our yard is filled with wild food! Planting gardens of vegetables and flowers with dirt under our nails connects us further.

To remind us of that energy an altar outside is lovely. A touchstone visually as you approach your home. It can be as simple as smooth river stones stacked on a window ledge with a teacup filled with violets. An altar could be a grouping of flowering plants with sacred symbols drawn on their pots or a bench on a porch with candles, flowers and little figures of baby animals. It is a way of leaving the world behind us as we enter the sacred space of our home. Joy fills this place.  It is also a reminder of peace as we leave our sanctuary for the day

Spend the month of May finding joy in the minutia the day. You will be a joy to others and feel it returned three-fold.

    Blessed Be.

    Astrology Report for May 2012

    May, 2012

    May Day at 11 degrees Taurus – May 1, 2012 12:00 am

Traditionally, there is the Celtic festival of Beltaine. It marks the end of the wintering months. Frost is pretty much behind us. The time of year was marked with springtime celebrations by many religions and cultures. May Queens are crowned with Chaplets of flowers, Maypoles are erected and woven with colorful ribbons and bonfires are lit. Carnivals, Fairs and Festivals are celebrated with parades, dancing and singing. This holiday is not limited to Europe or its related American descendants, Hawai’i also celebrates this day as Lei Day since 1927. Older traditional names, like Beltane, Walpurgis Nacht and others, were renamed into christianized names; i.e. Rudemas. However, some traditional names have survived and are still used today, regardless of the spelling. An old-wives tale says that you should wash your face with the dew of May Day for a prosperous year. There are similar tales dealing with the dew of May Day to ensure a beautiful complexion throughout the year – May Day dew has magical properties to wash away freckles, acne and other skin conditions.

    Beltaine at 15 degrees Taurus – May 4, 2012 10:30 pm

The Celts recognized the Beltaine as a mid-point between the first day of spring and the first day of Summer. It is an official time to recognize the beginnings of the summer festivities. It marks the 3rd and final Fertility Festivals. The May Pole is erected and flower sprays are placed atop. and dancing is typical. Taliesin is typically honored, although the marriage of the God and Goddess is best described. Hedonistic license is prominent among the folk. Wearing of the “Green” symbolized the fresh green Earth in growth and bloom. Foods sacred to the Sabbat were always fresh fruits and vegetables of the season and rarely any meat. Fresh scents of lilac, apple blossoms and heather lingered in the air. Women make rings of flowers (Chaplets) and wear them on their heads.

Full Moon in Scorpio at 16 degrees, May 5, 2012 11:35 pm EDT

A Full Moon happens when it is in opposition to the Sun from the Earth’s perspective. Their energies tend to oppose each other. Where the Moon tends to be more emotional, the Sun can be more analytical. The tides of the Earth can demonstrate too well the amount of energy the Sun and Moon have over the Earth. So consider if these two Planets have that much strength, what does it do to the water-based entities on the Earth? Full Moons tend to pull at the Earth in opposition from the Sun… like you’re being pulled at both ends.

While the Sun sits in Taurus, leadership qualities tend to be conservative. Egos are tame and inhibited. A Full Moon in Scorpio, can have transitional value with hidden agendas. When the emotional Moon opposes the Sun, the ability to focus on the job can be askewed to a degree.

During a Full Moon, Native Americans would recognize this reoccuring event with distinct names. The Full Moon of May is typically called the Flower Moon, due to the abundance of flowering plants during this part of the season. Farmers would also call it a Corn Planting Moon, because it was a typical time to plant corn so it would be ready for harvest early in the fall. It is also known as the Milk Moon, since it is a time for calves to be born. Traditionally, cows were moved to summer pastures for grazing at this time.

    Notable Harmonic Concordances

There will be two Trines on May 12, 2012, although they won’t be in alignment to create a Star of David in the sky. When 3 Planets are Trine (120 degrees) to each other, they create a Grand Trine, which allows these Planets to talk to each other – specifically, these Planets will inspire each other and their energies. It is definitely a favorable aspect.

The first Grand Air Trine has Saturn (Libra) trine the Moon (Aquarius) trine Venus (Gemini) and connecting to Saturn again. While Saturn tends to be conservative, its energy in Libra will find self-discipline to be helpful, yet ambitious. It is inspired by transitional Moon in intellectual Aquarius. Thus, we find that our self-disciplines are emotionally favorable. Add to that an approval from hedonistic Venus in versatile Gemini, just before she goes retrograde. This energy brings us to a head to make drastic changes which favor our new way of thinking. All of which happens in the Air Signs of the Zodiac – we tend to have good thoughts and conversations within Air Signs, although they can be superficial at times.

The second Grand Trine puts expressive Mercury in earthy Taurus trine impulsive Mars in earthy Virgo trine transformative Pluto in earthy Capricorn. All of this Earth energy tries to ground these Planets. The Trine helps to inspire those energies so reduce gossip, negative actions and impulsive changes. When these three Planets line up in a Grand Earth Trine, we become more practical and a little inhibited by assertive actions.

Sun Conjuncts Jupiter at 23 degrees Taurus – May 13, 2012 9:19 am EDT

As we watch Jupiter crossing the early evening sky, it will cross behind the Sun as the Earth becomes opposite of Jupiter from a helio-centric perspective. As Jupiter goes “under-the-beams”, the optimistic energy of Jupiter thus becomes more pronounced until it conjuncts the Sun. Any conjunction with the Sun is called Cazimi, which personifies the energy of any Planet that conjuncts the Sun. The energy imbued is intensely positive with life-giving power of the Sun. While both of these classical Planets hover in Taurus, that energy can become conventional and organizing.

Venus goes Retrograde at 23 degrees Gemini – May 15, 2012 4:16 pm EDT

Venus rarely goes beyond 47 degrees past the Sun. As Venus reaches its maximum orbital point, it stretches to 48 degrees for a brief moment. While this happens in Gemini, Venus takes on a chatty conversation about love and lust. Venus becomes a little more hedonistic in her approach to this point, but backs down while retrograde. She finds it difficult to be as versatile as she’s used to being. Venus energy becomes more laid back and relaxed. Affections and devotions won’t be as forthcoming as normal and especially as she crosses through her ruling Sign of Taurus while retrograde. Although it will seem like she’s ignoring your attempts, Venus is very much at home with her thoughts and feelings.

Sun enters Gemini – May 20, 2012 11:20 am EDT

The Sun’s energy will change from conservative Taurus to versatile Gemini on the 20th. As this takes place, a special grouping of Planets forms, called a Stellium. Mercury and Jupiter hang in the balance of Taurus with a Balsmic Moon. This mingling of energy, communications, generosity and banishing emotions, can get folks to blast their enemies and confrontations to the point of releasing them. That new Sun in Gemini allows personal conversations to thrust that energy into effect, especially where reputations are concerned.

The South Node of the Moon is also ascending upon this energy and, within hours, the Moon will eclipse the Sun in Gemini.

Eclipsed New Moon in Gemini at 00 degrees, May 20, 2012 7:45 pm EDT

The New Moon will begin its eclipse of the Sun in Gemini just before the sunset. It will be interesting to watch this eclipse in action as the Sun sets over the horizon. Although New Moon energies are good for fresh and initiating energy, eclipses tend to put a backward spin on that. The Sun in Gemini typically allows us to take control of our personal conversations, but an eclipse could thwart those energies, throwing us for a loop. Take the proverbial foot out of your mouth and insert the other. Eclipses in Gemini can bring conflict within communications.

Overall, May starts out with fun and excitement, but as the Planets transit, so too, do the energies. Stay tuned for the Astrology Report of June 2012 as we continue to watch the Planets in Action… Keeps your eyes to the sky and your feet on the Earth!!
