Crystal Balls

January, 2019

Crystal ball are used for divination (scrying) and spirit summoning. It is a well respected technique of divination and is used through the use of reflective surfaces and taking advantage of the bioplasmic energy (psychic power) in inanimate objects like crystals as it comes from the cosmos itself. If you can tune into that force the crystal ball will be very beneficial.

They should usually be made from clear quartz and can be large or small. Smoky quartz is beneficial if you mainly want to use it for summoning spirits. Manmade crystals are spiritually dead, so use those only for decoration. Natural crystals are what you want. Some people think it is better to be given one as a gift, but personally I think you should choose your own. It is a very personal object so you want to choose it carefully. You should be drawn to it and feel its energy.

The crystal ball is a tool of Pisces and the modern clear round ball is effective because it evokes the image of the moon. Now, some people can’t afford a real crystal ball, but there are other options. Even using something like a glass bottle of water, ink or water in a pan, etc. will give you some results, but the power of a cleansed crystal ball will be much more substantial.

A new crystal ball must be cleansed by exposing it to the light of the full moon at least once (13 times is ideal) before use. A crystal ball covered in negative energy and spiritual debris will cause disturbances and may not be accurate. Also, when you are not using it, you should keep in covered in a dark cloth. A great way to clean the crystal ball is with a blend of spring water and vinegar, charged waters, mugwort hydrosol or a water-based herbal infusion with dried mugwort and/or anise-seed.

Crystal-gazing is a great way to get into clairvoyance. You should stand the crystal ball on a black base or black cloth so that when you look into it there are no distractions. You don’t want anything to draw your attention away. The lighting should be behind you and it’s best to be in a semi-darkened room. Close your eyes and try to empty your mind and be open to the energies and aura around you. Then open your eyes and gaze into the center of the crystal. When you see a shadow or shape, clear your mind and follow them. You may immediately see someone or something or you may see it fill with smoke. The smoke will probably fill up the whole ball and then start to dissipate and leave a scene. This is called clouding.

If you don’t get anything, don’t worry. Keep looking for about ten minutes, but not much more. You don’t want to force anything or strain yourself in anyway. Just give up and try the next day. You will develop your own way of working with the crystal ball. Some see images right away, but sometimes you may need to try for a few days and weeks. Do not strain to get results, just relax and let it happen. At first you won’t have much control over what you see, but as you progress you will adjust and you will improve at clearing your mind and you will start to see what or whom you mentally ask for. If you are constantly getting negative or scary images or feelings you may want to try cleansing it again, cast a protective circle or simply try a different type of divination. Crystal balls just aren’t for everyone. Keep in mind when attempting to communicate with spirits, you should always cast a circle first.

Protection and Reversal Magick

A Witch’s Defense Manual

by Jason Miller

224 pages

In the last chapter Mr. Miller writes something interesting about magickal, psychic and spiritual attacks: he states that attacks are happening every day to everyone. They are being launched not only by offended spirits and malicious magicians, but major corporations and political parties. He asks: “Where does a magical seal, a binding, end and a corporate logo start? Where does the use of neuro-linguistics programming in sales and in the use of sorceress bindings begin?” Mr. Miller says that if you haven’t thought about this as magic, then think again.

Mr. Miller dedicates this book more to Hecate than he does any other deity. He wrote this book as an attempt to step beyond the “101’s” that seem to fill the shelves these days. This book is on defensive witchcraft, not Wicca.

There are chapters in this book on daily practices, personal protection and protection of the home. Chapter 6 of this book covers spirit guardians and servitors, this is an interesting chapter. I’m going to quote the author here, because I happen to agree with what he says about spirit guardians and servitors. Mr. Miller wrote: “It follows that if you treat the spirit as a separate entity that you are summoning, you will be able to get more worked up over the process delete than if you go into it as some psychological trick, and thus achieve greater success, no matter what the spirits true nature.”

I would recommend this book for someone who is wondering if they are under spiritual attack, wanting to delve deeper into reversal encounter magic, or who is looking for protection for their home. The rituals that Mr. Miller includes in this book are complete and easy to follow along with. It is also easy to come by a lot of the ingredients that are included in the rituals and the spells. I do feel that this is a book above the beginner level that are on the shelves today. But, even if this is your first book into Protective and Reversal Magick, Mr. Miller has made it easy to understand.

Coming Out of The Psychic Closet

October, 2018

Are You Afraid to Share Your Experiences with Others?

It is certainly encouraging that modern society is beginning to allow people to come out of their unique closets of personal truth and be accepted for who they are.

Those people are finding the courage to reveal the true nature of their individual life choices and experiences. But what if you don’t understand the nature of your life experiences and don’t remember making choices to be psychic? How do you share such a thing with your friends and family? Will they reject you, laugh at you, or call you ‘crazy’ and force you back to the safety of your secret closet? And if so, how long might you remain alone there until you try again?

We asked medium and mentor, Sheri Engler, author of The Pearls of Wisdom: A Fairytale Guide to Life’s Magic Secrets For All Ages for advice to help one cope with burgeoning psychic skills, while finding balance between personal and social realities. She says, “It is important to first identify what your fears actually are. Then simply replace them with something more comfortable.”

Here are a few typical questions and fears with some possible solutions to help get you started:

Does using the word “psychic” conjure foolish images of fortune tellers with crystal balls; spiritualists raising tables in shadowy séances; greedy scammers on psychic hotlines; or even new age, “airy-fairy” wannabe’s? —If so, consider using other words such as “intuition” or “high sensitivity to energies”. Try enlisting support from others by confiding that you are experiencing “metaphysical events” that you do not yet fully understand yourself. Ignite their interest and compassion, as opposed to judgment, by researching together the many resources online. Treat it as light and fun, and it will likely be less fear-provoking for all concerned. It is important to avoid trying to prove anything to anyone, as that quickly develops into a negative debate instead of the positive support you are seeking.

If you were to accept that you do indeed have “psychic ability”, could it suddenly take you over or invite dark energies? —The short answer is “No”. The longer answer is that having a fear of anything is the surest way to attract that exact thing to you. So don’t. Know that you have complete control over your own mind and your own personal space. You have a sovereign right to declare your space to be free of all negativity. It is as simple as that. Consider this… by the act of driving your car down the road, are you risking that your vehicle may suddenly take over your ability to control it?—Or could driving be construed as an invitation for someone to crash into you?… Of course not. You simply drive safely and go about your business, right?

What about the reaction your religious acquaintances or your partner might have once you reveal your “psychic self”? Might they reject you? —It needs to be said here that not all relationships are supportive to one’s own growth. Inner and outer change and expansion are opportunities to houseclean not only your own belief systems but those of others as well. True love will accept you as you are. This may be a providential litmus test for your highest good. If you stick to the rule of “keep what serves and leave what hurts,” you will rarely if ever go wrong.

Ms. Engler advises those who are having unexplainable experiences to “Be calm and go with the flow. Don’t be afraid to discover who you are, but use discernment when choosing with whom you wish to share your exciting journey. Frequently, you’ll find that they are grateful to you for coming out of your psychic closet, because it offers them courage to come out of their own! This increase in energetic awareness is happening on a massive scale. Statistically speaking, it is more unusual to not have had some sort of psychic experiences than it is to have them. Survey your friends and see for yourself.

The truth is we are all born into this world as psychic beings. This heightened sensory ability is greatly revered in indigenous cultures. Modern society, however, begins at childhood to systematically shame away this basic component of our natural birthright to the extent that we have forgotten that the “supernatural” is natural and the “paranormal” is normal.

Ultimately, there is nothing wrong with you—in fact, there is something very right with you. You are just as you were born to be, so be who you are.

The Bad Witch’s Guide to Ghost Hunting

(Photo by Callie Gibson on Unsplash)

It is the season apparently for all things spooky…ooooh!

I don’t ghost hunt as a rule. I ghost shoo! That said I do understand the desire for some titillation and so, on some intellectual level.

It is easier in general to ghost hunt in cities than the wilds and better in Europe than the US purely down to number dead people over thousands of years. There are of course many kinds of haunting and spirit activity but violence and large amounts of people seem to imprint or cause haunting more often. My psychic American bestie used to hangout in New Orleans all the time without much hassle (but that could have been the others spirits influence, nudge, nudge) and was shocked, delighted and amazed visiting Chester for the first time! Chester is an old city, founded by the Romans in 79AD. It has much of the old town still intact as well as the later medieval town and its beautiful buildings. It doesn’t hurt that the river runs near it. Water is a great psychic and spirit conduit. She saw full blown colour spirit figures walking around, was touched, even got some stuff on film!

Hunting ghosts is easier if they are also seeking you!

That said the trend to go to derelict hospitals and such seems distasteful and a bit dangerous to me.

There are two main kinds of haunting. The restless dead (a spirit who is confused, frightened or lost, particularly one that doesn’t know they are dead) and an echo of an event that either happened over and over or was so traumatic it left a mark, a memory on a place.

The echo is just that. It doesn’t interact. It doesn’t change it is just the echo of a place remembering. It can be a bloody battle, a crash or someone leaving out milk bottles. You get a better chance of seeing one of these someone that has had a lot of people to imprint, or the sight of battle or trauma.

The restless dead can and are anywhere. This is why hospitals and the like can be bad because if they don’t know they are dead they can follow you home and get the hump when you ignore then. These poor souls often had a rough enough time in life, they don’t deserve it in death too. I dislike a lot of the ghost hunting shows, especially if they get shouty and rude.

All in all dead people are just that, people. Some of them are lovely. However some of the worst hauntings I have dealt with have been addicts and little kids. You want to see some shit go down have a ghost toddler wobbly. They will throw things, slam things and even bite! Crossing someone over usually requires years of training (which I have) and some reasonable sight, and friends and guides on the Otherside to help people cross.

All in all I’d rather living people than dead around me rather than getting cold or uncomfortable somewhere but to each their own. While I am medium I am also a witch. This means I don’t let spirit in my body, home or circle without permission, in fact I am strict when it comes to spirit. Granted I am a bit of a sucker for kids, but they are pretty easy to cross over.

A spirit guide or guardian is nothing like a haunting. A haunting is a spirit this side of the Veil. They tend to look like regular people whom slowly seem to drain of colour over time becoming shadows. They are stuck, either willingly or unwittingly and can be varying levels of troublesome. When a spirit crosses everything lifts. It is really beautiful. It is as though someone opened a window and let fresh air and light in. Spirit when they have crossed over is different. They are bright, glowing almost with the light of the Otherside. They can appear as how they saw themselves or even how they wished they had looked. They come and go at my request or their own desires rather than being stuck somewhere.

In general my experience with dead people has not been spooky, dark places. It is usually well lit living rooms on a sunny Sunday afternoon, or someone’s kitchen.

My advice is don’t go somewhere derelict especially without permission, you may end up as one of the ghosts! The floors aren’t clear, the ceilings are crumbling and you are far from help if you need it. I am serious these places are abandoned for a reason. If you want to ghost hunt, do a proper tour. You can do them in many cities and even some castles at least in the UK. Take a protective symbol with you (be it pentagram or something else) as a precaution. Cast a circle if it gets ooky. Don’t use a spirit or Ouija board*. Cleanse with salt water and smudge (sage, rosemary and frankincense are great) afterwards. Don’t get drunk or high and ghost hunt. You might be more open but you are also more vulnerable too.

If you are thinking of getting spooky closer to home (is your Aunts house haunted?) and decide to do some spell or rite or other please do not invite anyone or anything. Don’t use a spirit board or Ouija board. If you can get a proper and respected medium to attend do it. You would be surprised how often I get calls this time of year from folks doing this by themselves who get freaked out, and get caught out by something unpleasant. Some get attacked, some get sick, and some even have pets die! Mostly it is purely psychological and I turn up, check nothing weird is about and shut the door they opened. Again if you fail to heed my advice and you need to fix this, you will need a decent medium and they have every right to charge you through the nose (call it an idiot tax).

*Creating a doorway you can’t close is not a smart idea ever.

Unsolicited Advice from the Adventures of a Lowly Shop-girl

Concepts I Have Put into Practice

A couple of years ago, I was working in a beautiful office at a formerly great place that had just been purchased by a corporation. Things were pretty good, but morale was rapidly deteriorating as the corporate big wigs were implanting their uncomfortable and ineffective ideas into a healthy business. In short, they were ruining it! Lucky for me, I got fired.

With 3 days to go to my vacation, just back from bereavement leave, and a mortgage to pay as a single gal, I was a little concerned. I found myself in the very same situation where so many people are finding themselves today…unemployed. But not only unemployed, also frightened, uncertain and basically freaked out. My level of education either over-qualified or under-qualified me, even though my schooling did not support what I really wanted to be doing, yet going back to school seemed an unlikely option. Selling all of my belongings and moving to a different city was not a viable possibility, either. My cats would hate it and I really like the stuff I’ve collected too much to sell it all. Aaahhh, what to do? Confusion and fear began to set in. I knew, I just knew that fear would be my worst enemy. So first and foremost, I made a pact to come up with any way possible to refute fear.

Concept #1 –Counter thoughts of FEAR with thoughts of GRATITUDE. Fear is generally based in ‘lack of something’. The easiest and best way to counter it is to focus on what you DO have in your life and how much you appreciate it!

I then did what any responsible person would do. I promptly headed to my psychic.

Concept #2 – Gather information from a trusted resource, i.e. a respected friend, a good psychic, your own research of what appeals to you.

In the past she had told me that I was going to buy my house, (when I had no way of accomplishing that), meet certain friends, travel to certain places, be in certain circumstances, all of which at the time of her telling me I thought, “Yeah, right!” But each and every time, she was spot on. She was absolutely correct at every turn. This time she told me not to worry about my current unemployment situation as I would soon become an energy worker. Once again, true to form, I thought, “Yeah, right!,” completely forgetting the previous six months training in Holographic Sound Healing I had been attending.

Concept #3 – Stay positive and stay open! Open to opportunities from unexpected places, because they WILL be presented to you.

Immediately I asked, “Can I make a living at it? I mean, will I be able to make a living at that?”

She smugly replied, “That’s up to you.” (Damn, I hate when people tell me what I am supposed to already know.)

Concept #4– Believe in your abilities! Chances are, if you are drawn to doing something, it resonates with you…and YOU will resonate with IT!

Not two weeks later, it was our final certification class for Holographic Sound Healing. As I looked around the room to everyone paired up and working with each other, I noticed how very different they were than my randomly selected partner and me. Well, not really randomly selected, everyone else just paired up and left us to work with each other.  My partner’s name was Janet and she had an aura about her; One of strength, power, and certainty.  She held a serious expression, almost stern and unapproachable. She is one of those people that seem to have a secret knowledge, that ‘has it all figured out’ and if you get close enough, she may share the secret of life with you…or she might just kick your ass.  In short, she was a tough read, but she definitely exhibited strength. I think there may have been an intimidation factor felt by the other folks in the class, but I was not bright enough to pick up on it. These people must have known something to just leave us to each other, but she was the only other zaftig, long-haired, wild-bohemian looking person in the group, so of course I was immediately drawn to her!

So here we are. The last day of this amazing six month training and we are exhibiting all that we have learned. We are paired up; positions chosen and we are ready to go. Janet and I were talking a little bit which delayed our start, so everyone began toning before we did. I thought to myself, “Darn it, I am already a few steps behind. Okay, quiet yourself, find your center, there are all these steps you have to go thru in preparation before you begin the actual toning process, and you were talking thru it! Okay, get it together, don’t lose focus…” And while I was trying to quiet myself and go thru these very important steps to ‘get connected’, I found it extremely difficult, as all I could focus on was the other pairs toning to one another already.  That horrible voice in my head, a.k.a. FEAR says, “Ugh, they are already waaayyyy ahead of you. You better hurry up. Get thru the steps, quick, hurry, get connected!” (Yeah, that was helpful.) The more I tried to focus on myself to quiet my mind, the more I could only hear them all toning. But it didn’t seem like toning, it sounded more like singing. I wondered, “Who are they singing for?” They were all aspiring to sound so angelic and lovely. Hitting these very soft high notes, lilting their way to Spirit and a higher connection. Individually, they were charming. But putting them all in the same room with each other, and hearing it all at once, I mean, these beautiful, open people were all being so serious and trying to sound so ‘pretty’ that for some reason, it just made me giggle a little out loud. Then I realized that I had just giggled out loud. I thought, “Oh no.”

To self, C’mon Tala, don’t laugh. That would be extremely inappropriate and simply wrong. I mean, these people paid good money, studied for months and are trying their best to perform this culmination of cultivated experience and spiritual expression. They are all such lovely people. Whatever you do…don’t laugh.

Side note: I am not sure how you would spell it, but do you know that outward snort sound; the one that is made when you are trying to repress a cough, or a sneeze, or… a laugh? Yeah, that’s what came out next. I looked at the two faces closest to Janet and me, and they were being polite by continuing their vocal toning and attempting to hide the horror at my faux pas. “Oh no, they heard me.” I was mortified.  Here I am, trying to make an impression on the instructor, be at the top of my class, respect and honor my fellow Sound Healers, truly connect with Spirit and the Hathors, and I cannot hold it together for the life of me. I looked to Janet expecting her to show an expression of disapproval, but it was worse. Her complexion was all red, her eyes were filled with sparks and her face was contorted. I thought I had awakened a dragon, and then it came…

Both of us just burst out giggling. There was no hiding it. Bear in mind, the next pair of people were only 6 feet away from us! And the more we tried to control it, the worse it got. Janet’s laugh went from a giggle to flat out guffawing; I went from guffawing to a high pitched squeal! We laughed so hard and so loud that we were both crying. I could not control the fact that my tongue was sticking out of my mouth and I was drooling! It was awful, and I thought to myself, “This is AWFUL! How disrespectful! These poor people, what they must think of me? Us?” That just made it worse. For ten straight minutes, we were laughing-crying-laughing. It got to the point that we completely shut down the other people trying to tone, they were so thrown off by our uproarious cackles they just stopped toning altogether and waited for us to stop. For Janet and me, it just added proverbial fuel to the hysterical fire! We got to the point where we just stopped caring and went with it.  At the end of it all, where there began two strong, somewhat stoic women on a sweet, velvet settee, was now a sloppy, drool and tear ridden, embarrassed lump of two bodies flopped over each other, gasping for air.

Once we wiped ourselves off, straightened our clothing, blew our noses and composed ourselves as best we could; it was time to face everyone. At this point we both figured we blew it. We could see in their eyes that they were waiting for a cue from the instructor, Randeane, on how to react. One thing seemed to be a general consensus, Janet and I were now thought of as ‘The Bad Girls of Holographic Sound Healing’, but gosh, it felt SO GOOD! Janet and I actually thanked each other.  A huge weight had evaporated and all the fear and concern and worry about everything in the world was just lifted and transmuted. So, bring it on. We feared nothing! We felt AMAZING! We were glowing!

Randeane came over to us and announced to the class, “Now THAT was Sound Healing!”

In that one statement, everyone was given permission to laugh! And we all did, together. But Janet and I did not get off that easy. Randeane put us on the spot to actually tone in front of everyone. We were depleted of all fear; we were in sheer joy and audacity at that moment and just went with it. What came out was more powerful than anyone in that room expected, especially us!

Concept #5– Don’t edit your joyful self!  Do what brings you joy! Be in the moment of joy!

After we surprised ourselves, Janet turned to me and said, “We are going to work together”.

Within two weeks, Sacred Alignment was conceived. Within a month we were performing individual healing sessions and within two months we were conducting group sound healing meditations. We have been steadily booked at our convenience out of several locations ever since!

Concept #6 – Set your intentions when you are in a positive state of mind. (Refer back to #1 & $2)

I am not saying that changing our ways of thinking are always easy. And yes, we all can have low energy days, needs for release; times when we want to run and hide under the covers. Do not beat yourself up if you are subject to especially low energy and need to cry on someone’s shoulder or go into your cave. It is important to honor that time as well. But remember that you are in control.

Concept #7 – Be energetically responsible. Honor your needs, but put effort into caring for yourself and not sucking your friends and family dry of their energetic resources. They may not be there when you need them next time.

Concept #8– Do not beat yourself up for not being perfect. Think of yourself as an artist, everything you do is art. Some people might just not understand the concept yet.

Well, I am happy to report that it is almost 7 years later and I’ve been working as a spiritual practitioner professionally ever since. I am a successful sound healer and energy worker, and I have had the pleasure and honor of helping so many people solve their problems every day by working in a metaphysical bookstore where I get to offer books, stones, candles, spells, and advice to help people along their path. A New Page in Middletown Connecticut has been my home into my home base for my practice and my day job, where Yvette Page has been one of my best teachers and closest friends. I opened up to the universe and I was truly blessed!

Concept #9 Remember to count your blessings!

About the Author:

Tala is a healer of multi-cultural decent and influence. Her heritage is a mixture of Celtic, African, Native American and European decent. However, her spiritual journey began when she and her mother were living throughout Mexico. While exploring one of our world’s ‘Sacred Power Spots’, Chichen Itza in the Yucatan, Tala was struck by a bus and was pronounced dead. She was revived when three indigenous Mayan Shamans appeared from the jungle and proceeded to pass her body between them and chant. They brought her to their hidden jungle village on the mountain to recover and heal for three days. When Tala emerged from the jungle on the fourth day, she told her mother’s companion that she had been “given the light of god by the Mayan people”. She was five years old when she experienced this N.D.E. (near death experience). This opened the door to her receiving messages and visitations from spirits to this day.

At age 23, Tala was the recipient of Shaktipat, in person directly from Shri Anandi Ma. This is a transmission of energy/ god force through (in her case) physical touch which awakens the Kundalini. It often sets the person on their true spiritual path. Many who receive Shaktipat become healers and teachers.

Over the years, combined with her continuing formal education, she has maintained a balance between the physical sciences and the metaphysical. She was one of the first 60 people in the U.S. to be sent to the Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX to be trained by NASA to educate local teachers about the International Space Station in its beginning stages. She became an R.C. Counselor, Peer Counselor, and an Ordained Minister for the Universal Life Church. She is a Certified Holographic Sound Healer and is a Reiki Practitioner. This year she has become an ordained Minister and Reverend of Our Lord & Lady of the Trinacrian Rose Church and has completed her 2 year apprenticeship in the Pachakuti Mesa Cross-cultural Shamanism and is now a Paco-Shaman. She has made her living for the past years as a powerful energy worker/healer of individuals and groups and a master craftsman of ritual, ceremonial and energetic tools. Her dream is to travel the world and continue her formal and spiritual education with scholars, locals and indigenous peoples.

Tala is a Spiritual Practitioner of the Shamanic arts, she studies Ancient Spiritualities from all over the world and she is a Sacred Toolsmith making tools for Shamans, Pagans and Energy Workers. You can find her at ‘A New Page’ at 1060 Newfield St., Middletown, CT

Review – Council of Light: How to Develop Your Psychic Abilities Online Workshop

July, 2018

https://lifeshare.thinkific.com/courses/increase-your-psychic-ability

I was intrigued by the title of this course. What, exactly, did it mean by developing psychic abilities? We all think of different things when people say ‘psychic’. Some of us might think of ‘readers’; those who do tarot and other divination methods to help read a person’s needs and desires and so help them sort out what they need to do in their lives. Others may think of telepathy and mind reading. The term ‘Psychic’ is even conflated with mediums and those who connect with our beloved dead. I wondered which, if any, of these definitions this course would focus on, so decided to dive right in and find out!

The introductory video outlines 10 simple ways to increase psychic awareness. These include meditation, finding what our psychic strengths are and exercising them, just as we would physical muscles that we want to keep strong. I’m intrigued to know that there are many different types of psychic awareness, so already I am learning something! The instructor then introduces herself, and the difficult journey she has been on which has been aided by developing her mind and reinforcing positive beliefs. This intro is really invigorating and motivating.

Climb mountains of emotions and claw through fields of memories so you can find what is stopping you and blocking you in your life right now.

There follows a short video about meditation, which I am particularly fond of because it tells us that there’s no one, single prescribed way to meditate. It’s all about relaxing the mind, body and spirit. To further assist those who may not have experience of meditation, there’s a document with seven steps to help ease you in to good meditation practice. So far, I’m finding this course very accessible, and even though I’m experienced at meditating, I can see that these sections would be really easy to understand even for a complete novice. For me, I find them reassuring, helpful and a great reminder of the positive benefits of meditation. The physical exercises for neck and head it suggests are also really useful.

The optional prayers given in this section do veer towards the Christian, however, the course makes it clear that meditation is not religion specific, so you could easily replace these with your own Pagan prayers or affirmations. There are some notes on diet which I would take with a pinch of salt (pun intended!) because of course, we all have our own individual nutritional requirements and it may not be good for you to change your diet at this time. I do agree with the overall ethos though: plenty of fresh fruit and veg and water! However, it also suggests all fried foods are bad which I find a bit of an oversimplification.

There follows a guided meditation to help you discover and develop your psychic gifts. Her voice is incredibly relaxing, and I feel the ‘liquid relaxation’ flowing gently through my body, rejuvenating and refreshing me. Indeed, as I relax my shoulders and arms, I let go of tension I didn’t even know I was holding.

The next unit is all about the different ‘clairs’; clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience and claircognizance. The audio lesson gives a fantastic description of not just what these all mean, but how each gift may manifest itself in your life. Each of them held some familiarity for me, but I most resonated with the claircognizant; the person who just knows things without knowing how they know.

After this section we explored chakras, something I have only just begun to explore in any detail, so this was of particular interest to me.

The layout of the course is simple and easy to follow. The combination of videos and written texts works well, and though there’s no guidance to do this, I found that making notes as I went along and referring back to them was the best way for the knowledge to sink in, as well as taking time to do the practical tasks such as the guided meditations.

I know some Pagans came to their path after being disappointed by Christianity, and as such they may be dismayed with the references to the bible and to ‘God’, however I didn’t find this distracting at all, as I took ‘God’ to mean divinity or the universe, and the biblical references were relevant and useful, rather than being ‘preachy’ in any way. The introductory video clearly states that there is no religion specifically connected to psychic development, so as long as you bear that in mind, you should gain a great deal from the content in this course. Recommended.

*Disclaimer: I was provided this course free of charge in return for an honest review.

Interview with Astrid Brown: A Psychic Affair

July, 2018

Astrid Brown: A Psychic Affair

Astrid Brown is a medium, a psychic, and an incredibly prolific author. Her most recent offering, A Psychic Affair, blends the mysteries of psychic development with the romance genre, exploring how long-distance relationships can develop not only through the words and messages we send, but through a true, psychic connection. The story is interwoven with poetry and descriptions of how certain aspects of psychic development work, creating something Astrid describes as a ‘hybrid’; a cross-genre concept that will appeal to romance fans and students of the psychic world alike.

Astrid was kind enough to give us some of her time, and here’s what she had to say to PaganPagesOrg.

Mabh Savage: What was the inspiration for the book, A Psychic Affair?

Astrid Brown: I was writing a psychic development book at the time, and I created a website to explain psychic phenomena as I found myself having to explain how we work, and how clients can help themselves. I still add to this site/blog: http://www.astridestella.info . So I thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be an idea to write a novel about a medium, and explain psychic phenomena at the same time?’

I had endless problems with publishers as they don’t like hybrids, but want one genre, and not a cross genre as this one is.

MS: What led this decision to craft the book as a hybrid between an educational volume on psychic development, and a romance?

AB: I wanted to write a novel but felt I had to explain how mediums work, and explain the phenomena; after all, ‘Maryann’ and ‘Annie’ are mediums

MS: Was the book based on events in your own life at all?

AB: I have used my life experiences to write the book. I was a lecturer (I no longer do this) focusing on writing and doing readings. Of course I am a medium, so I made ‘Maryann’ one. Some of the characters are based on people I’ve met in my life.

MS: Who would you say the book is aimed at?

AB: I would say its aimed at people who are interested in the paranormal and psychics, and readers who are open minded.

MS: You’ve written thirty books or so in the last ten years. How do you find the time, and how do you balance writing with your day to day life?

AB: I make the time for I love writing. Often the best time for me to write is the early hours of the morning. I get tremendous links with spirit at this time, and they encourage and influence my work. It’s not a job to me; it’s a pleasure. for there is no point in writing if you don’t enjoy it. Lastly, I want to let people know how amazing the Universe and spirit are.

MS: What advice would you give to other aspiring writers?

AB: Don’t give up. You will get many rejections; JK Rowling had 20 rejections from publishers before she had Harry Potter accepted. Your first books may not be that good but keep at it and you will improve. What is important though is spelling and grammar and don’t rely on Spell Check it makes mistakes. Everything happens at the right time and no experience is ever wasted.

MS: How long have you worked with developing your psychic abilities?

AB: All of my life.

MS: When did you first discover your psychic abilities, or your ability to work with spirit?

AB: From birth. I think my earliest memories of psychic phenomena were when I was a baby, and as I was growing up, I played with spirit children, so it developed from then. I was giving readings when I was school age. I might also say my grandmother who lived with us was a medium in the Spiritualist Church.

MS: What’s the most beneficial thing you find about your psychic talents and awareness?

AB: Helping others and bringing them comfort and reassurance, especially if they are bereaved.

MS: And what’s the most challenging?

AB: Explaining to people I am not a fortune teller but a Medium. I cannot conjure up specific loved ones from the other side. If they have a message they will come forward. I am also restricted by divine timing in that there is no concept of time in the spirit realms, so I don’t always get specific dates. Sometimes it’s not possible to do a reading on someone; they maybe inadvertently blocking me and they need to be relaxed. Sometimes spirit will come forward and they will not recognise who it is and for to continue the reading I need them to accept, or be open minded so I can continue the link.

MS: Was it a natural development to move from nursing into holistic therapies?

AB: I began moving to holistic therapies when I had my own children. They were my guinea pigs, but it was actually a very small homeopathic book I came across in the supermarket one day. I bought it, I don’t know why, I guess I was directed by spirit and I was fascinated by it, I wanted to know more and more. This led onto other energy systems of healing such as Bach Flower Remedies and Aromatherapy, so I studied and trained in aromatherapy and reflexology, therapeutic massage, Indian head massage, and crystal therapy. When I attended parapsychology college to improve my mediumship I studied spiritual healing. Then I decided to train as a beauty therapist to gain more clients, eventually becoming a college lecturer, teaching anatomy and physiology, and beauty therapy. I also introduced holistic therapies to the college and trained many students who now work in spas around the world.

MS: Without spoiling the story for prospective readers, the way it ends suggests there may be more to come. Will there be another book for Maryann and John?

AB: This was my intention, to write another, as I left an opening at the end of the book. If the book sells, well I will write another about Maryann and John.

MS: And are you working on any other novels at the moment?

AB: I’m always writing something, I am currently writing something completely different from my normal genre at the moment and a collection of short stories. I write poetry all the time, much of which is channelled from spirit, so it comes in very fast to me, often writing a poem in 2 minutes. Whilst I am writing I am not aware of what my fingers are typing. I do my best psychic readings this way either on messenger or emails.

Book Review: Spirit Relations by Bill Duvendak

Spirit Relations by Bill Duvendak

I found this book to be a refreshing change from the many books I’ve read on the topic of psychic and mediumship development. The author Bill Duvendak has the unique perspective of being someone experienced with energy work which gives the reader an entirely different view into the process and tools we can use to develop the tools we need to connect with spirit. He starts with a basic overview of the Clairs as most books on development do, but then goes far beyond and into the aura and chakra system. He discusses the pineal gland and its part in accessing and opening the psychic portals. With each step along the way he shares practical exercises to increase abilities and deepen awareness.

The author also is of the opinion as are many psychics and mediums that while some come into the world with better aptitude anyone with the desire can develop their abilities. This may help those who are hanging on the fear or belief that some are “gifted” and others are unable to connect at the same level. I don’t think I have ever read a more thorough book on development written from a pagan perspective. Mr. Duvendek takes into account and discusses things we don’t normally find in development books such as astrological factors, working with gatekeeper guides, our bodies as vessels and caring for them. He also treads where most will not dare to in that he discusses not only interacting with the highest vibrational beings but lowering vibration to interact with the lower forms of energetic beings. Something he reserves for only the most practiced and experienced workers.

I found his perspective, exercises and obvious knowledge to be an enlightening surprise from the same old, same old books; and as someone who is an energy worker and psychic medium very thoughtfully written. For those coming from a background of energy work, craft and psychic development this book is one worth taking a look at if you are considering deepening your work in mediumship or any psychic work.

Animal Wisdom

Connecting With The Heart Of Your Familiar

One of the many things that we as witches strive for is to recognize the interconnectedness of everything. We look to the Goddess and God to show us the way. I am a hereditary psychic medium, animal communicator and have seen energy since I was thirteen. But even with these gifts, it took me a long while to discover the key to blending my energy with that of my familiar.  Animals are one of the best ways to connect with Divine energy for they are closest to Earth. They react instinctively and intuitively, their psychic connection is powerful and they are not guarded when it comes to sharing their wisdom. It is merely finding the way to listen and understand.

Each animal has their own purpose, just as we do. Some are meant to be protectors, others to be guides or healers. Familiars are meant to be all of these things. Did you ever notice when you are not feeling well your furry friend will lay right where the pain or discomfort lies, when you cast the ritual circle they have a need to be just outside or inside, that when something isn’t meant to be on the altar they knock it off?

These wonderful and gifted creatures deserve the utmost respect, the same that you would give anyone else in your circle. They are teacher, friend, and family. A simple way to connect with their loving spirit is to sit or lay with them, hold them if you can.  If you cannot hold them then just place a hand on them. Close your eyes, and match their breathing. Visualize their energy do not give it a color that will come on it’s own, see your energies blending with theirs. Your heartbeats matching in time, breathing with them. You may notice that your familiar will become very still as you do this. That means they are accepting you completely as a part of them. If they move away do not fret it just means that at this moment they are either to agitated or that you are not yet ready for the experience and knowledge they have to share. It is not a rejection. Also be aware that if you are in a heightened state or your energy is not completely calm the animal may react to this. So center yourself then try again.

I have a familiar, she is a beautiful tabby named Stevie I have worked with her for years. When I do energy cleansings or healings on clients she is right there jumping up on the massage table showing me where there are issues. Thought speak is the easiest way for these wonderful animals to get their messages across. A part of recognizing the interconnectedness of us all is opening ourselves to the wisdom of others. A way to do this with your familiar would be through mental pictures. A type of telepathic sending and receiving. Visualize in your mind something you would like for them to do, like look at you. Imagine that message being sent through the air to the point between their eyes. See what happens. This may not be something that works right away, but needs time and patience to develop. Animals don’t always recognize right away that someone is speaking to them. Especially if they have lived on their own with no other animal interaction. Their conversational skills could be a little bit behind. So like I said you must be patient. For others who have already developed a strong bond you may be doing this unconsciously already. Be aware.

The most important thing you can do to connect with your familiar is spend time with them, many of the animals that I speak with on a daily basis complain that their humans do not spend enough time giving them attention or playing with them. These animals want to help us on our journey, bring life, friendship, and understanding to our path. Be open.

What is Your Gift?

The phone rings and you guess who it is. You look outside and it looks as though it is about to rain. You wish silently to yourself that it would be great if it were sunny. Half an hour later the sun comes out, even though it hadn’t been forecast. There are so many things that happen every day and yet we dismiss it as being co-incidental. We do not stop to consider that perhaps there is something deeper and more intense happening. Perhaps these things only happen to others…

As children we take things at face value. Most of us can recall times where we saw a ghost or in the very least felt its presence and had things take place that as adults we dismiss all too easily. As humans we uniquely are in tuned to things that conflict with scientific fact and as it is, isn’t an exact science. We are brought up to live mechanistically within the boundaries of what has a logical explanation and if it doesn’t, then it doesn’t exist.

When was the last time you experienced one of your co-incidences once too often and began to wonder about what is really going on?

Perhaps it is within the path of paganism that we are a little more open to the not so main stream or perhaps we have been given the gift to be open to something greater than ourselves with the ability to appreciate it and experience it.

It isn’t unusual to turn on your television and see “sci-fi” series on witches, vampires, ghost whisperers and mediums. We know there is an element of truth to some of it and yet, as far as main stream society goes, that is it.

It is amusing to consider that Charmed actually had some fact to several seasons of some skimpy clad witches constantly fighting demons coming to destroy the world. Do you know what was true and what wasn’t? This brought Medium onto our screen which is based on a real person and even the details of her family reflect her real life. From there we watched the Ghost Whisperer which in fact had the input of a ghost medium to assist with the factual aspects to make it a little more authentic.

So, we see this. We know there is some truth to all of it. We practice paganism; for me it is my path, so can only assume something similar for everyone else and yet, after all that we so easily dismiss our “gifts” that silently develop as we continue our journey to enlightenment; to connecting with our higher self and becoming a conduit to the universe and its amazing energy.

What is your gift? Some call talent; some call it a skill; I call it a gift because having the ability to experience things outside of ourselves; outside of what we classify the norm is pretty amazing. Even today it is difficult to find others to discuss this with without them considering you slightly bizarre, eccentric, weird or even loopy.

In those rare occasions where you can it is like you have found a kindred spirit that can speak your language. Where nothing else matters because this one person can comprehend what it is to see, feel, know things greater than we could ever imagine.

The next time you know who is calling; the next time you know you changed the weather ask yourself – what is your gift?
