Review: Scents for Cents Subscription Box

September, 2018

Moon Dancer

Enhance Your Senses”

Moon Dancer offers a variety of Subscription Boxes ranging from soaps, oils, candles, and incense. This month we will be unboxing their Scents for Cents Box, which is a recurring monthly subscription box of handmade incense picked monthly for you and includes an incense holder. The price of this box ranges from $10 for a one month subscription to $100 for a year.

As soon as the Moon Dancer box arrived I could smell the beautiful, strong aromas permeating through the box.

Opening the box, I was surprised by the sheer amount of incense in the box. I was not expecting this many. The box is stuffed to full of packages upon packages of lovely smelling sticks. Then, when you take them out, you find a burner to go along with them, to make it easy to use them.

My Subscription Box contained 10 sticks each, of the following scents:

Hibiscus

Rain Musk

Butterfly Garden

Dragonfly

Wild Honey

Sweet Rain

Firefly

Summer Solstice

Wisteria

Lilac

Storm Clouds

Sun Shower

Water

Flower Fairy

Rain

That is a ton of incense! You can tell they are all fresh! I liked the smell of most of them. Maybe one or two weren’t my favorites. The only one I can remember that I found not too pleasing was Water.

I found when burning the incense that for the first few seconds they burn black and ash flies around. The ash was not lit. So there was no fire danger. Just a small bit of soot. It was not too much, and over quickly.

The incense holder is a common, wooden one. It is pretty with a moon & stars on it. Very practical. Nice on any altar.

As described by the owner of Moon Dancer:

The incense is ground up, rolled and scented by me.

It is made from non-endangered, sustainable wood. The wood was also chosen because it burns very slowly and has very little smell of it’s own.

Each stick will burn for an hour. Of course, if it is burning on a windowsill of an open window or under a fan it will cut down the burn time.

The sticks are saturated in scent, so they are strong, and the scent lasts on the stick for longer than it does on incense that is dipped. If you keep it in the zip-lock bag it comes in it will last at least 2 years.

There is no charcoal or alcohol used ever! So you will never hae a burnt after smell.

All the incense is scented with my own blends. It can be made in any of my 600 blends featured on my website www.mdancer.com.

For cratejoy each month in the Scent for Cents Box, customers receive 15 different scents. There are 10 sticks of each scent. The cost is just $10 a month. The scents are based on the month, flowers that are blooming, holidays, or events.

I guarantee to not repeat a scent in a year.

The first crate will include a plain wooden ash catcher. Each box after that will include a free gift of a burner.

Each month the incense is made fresh for the crates.”

I think Moon Dancer Scent for Cents Box is a great investment. The price is so right starting at only $10 a month, and you get so much for your money. The quality of the incense is superb. You even get a burner to go with your incense. This box is great for any witch’s arsenal! I recommend it!

The Witch’in Way

The Witch’in Way is a shop that offers magickal boxes based on and released for the Sabbat months. Occasionally, The Witch’in Way will release a theme box, as well. The boxes contain a variety of charming handmade and natural goodies to help you celebrate the appropriate Sabbat.

Based in Halifax, Canada, The Witch’in Way has no problem shipping their wonderful items to the U.S.A. for actual shipping, no price gouging here!

Knowing that a lot of the items in the The Witch’in Way Box are handmade we were curious to see what the items we would receive would be and the quality of them. When the box arrived, we were very excited.

The Packaging

The The Witch’in Way Box arrived wrapped in plain, brown paper with their label in the corner. Their label is not large or overpowering in any way, so really no unwanted attention is drawn to it. Even though it says the name of the company, I think those in the broom closet can get away with receiving this package. It looks inconspicuous enough.

We were so excited by the package, we jumped right in…

Open Package

As soon as you open the packaging, and tear wide that box, the beautiful wrapper and sticker are exposed.

Informational Pages

The first item you get in the box is the Informational Pages. Love these. So important for every box to have. Their sheets come with tons of facts.

The theme of our Witch’in Way Box is Yule. Their Informational Pages give the background of the Yule Sabbat and the facts and information for materials included in the box. They even make sure to include poison warnings for herbs.

The paper it is printed on is a lovely parchment.

I did notice, after going through the entirety of the box, a few minor items were not mentioned. If you do not know what certain things are used for it may be an issue, but if you are a seasoned witch, it will not make a difference.

Mistletoe

The freshness of the herb supplied took me by surprise. I have yet to have received such a quality yet. The smell was incredibly aromatic and the color was intensely vibrant.

The Informational Page The Witch’in Way supplies suggests several spells Mistletoe can be used for. They supply you with a generous amount that you can use them in a variety of those spells.

They even make sure to warn you of the fact that ingesting Mistletoe is Poisonous. The Witch’in Way is on top of things!

Star Anise

You can smell the fresh aroma of black licorice, as it penetrates through the bag of Star Anise. The pieces are whole and beautiful, not broken bits just lying in a bag. You are given a good amount, at least half a bag’s worth of the fresh herb.

The Informational Page suggests what it is useful for and a way to make use of it.

Two Charcoal Discs

They can be used to burn resins, incense, powdered herbal blends or dried herbs. Two Charcoal Discs are included with the Box, but their use is not explained to you. Most experienced witches know their purpose, but those new to using loose herbs and such may not know. I assume they are for burning the loose herbs that come with the box.

Two Tealight Candles

These two tealights are not mentioned on the Informational Pages, but we all know what candles are. These smell as though the green one is a pine and the red may be cranberry. The scents are very strong and agreeable.

These could be used as any candle could be used; for spells, rituals, black-outs. The colors and fragrances are appropriate for the Boxes theme.

Citrine

This large hunk of Citrine arrives in a lovely gossamer bag. This smooth, shiny, polished gemstone is a large size. The coloring is, simply put, beautiful. Because of the shape of the stone I received, holding it is incredibly soothing. It fits in the palm of my hand and is nicely cradled within. I can easily meditate with this stone comfortably. The Witch’in Way has included the correspondences for Citrine on their Informational Pages.

Yule Oil

The Witch’in Way includes a generous sized bottle of their own Yule Oil Blend. The aroma is impressive! Strong, not a weak scented oil. You can tell it is properly made and blended.

The Informational Pages explain to you what the oil is made up of. It states, what is contained within from it’s base oil, to all the essential oils mixed in. Not only that, it explains why they used each oil and what it represents. Each component is appropriate for a Yule working and they mix together marvelously.

Mini Yule Log and Candles

When we came upon this in the box we squealed with excitement! Our own Yule Log! It can fit in any home. How cute. What an incredibly imaginative, creative, great idea! I have never seen anything like this before. It is solid and very festive. Very well made, from a real log.

Now for the best part… The Witch’in Way includes candles. They are birthday candles. They have cut the holes into the log and the candles fit right in perfectly. So you may purchase more candles on your own and your Yule Log is re-usable! You have a permanent Yule Log you can use year after year. Easy to store because of it’s size.

The Informational Pages tell you what a Yule Log is, what you can use yours for and suggests a great way to get your whole family involved in a ritual involving the Yule Log.

Witch Ball

Just when I thought the beauty of the Yule Log had me, I unwrap a gorgeous Witch Ball. Handmade by The Witch’in Way and simply put, beautiful. It is to Bless & Protect your home.

The Informational Pages tell you all that it holds within. It contains: jasmine flowers, cinnamon, cedar, and has hanging amethyst and citrine stones. There is, also, a rune/symbol in the witch ball that is not mentioned on the sheet. I am not sure what it’s meaning is, but so far knowing the rest of the contents of the box, I feel certain it’s appropriate.

Yule Cards

I loved this idea. How many of us are searching for cards around the holiday that have a simple message that is not christian? We have to settle for a plain “Happy Holidays”. Or, how many of us have to make our own! Well, The Witch’in Way has included a set of 6 warm and unique cards for us to send out for the Yule holiday! Not only are they thoughtful but they are beautiful. I do love the fae and winter faeries are perfect for the season.

My Overall Impression…

The Witch’in Way definitely has a different type of box. Made up of mostly homemade items, their own blends, and definitely their own unique ideas. I must say I LOVE it!

All handcrafted. That brings a special aspect to it. Knowing that someone actually cared enough to build you this box piece by piece. Impart magick bit by bit, in every feature as the box grew.

The creative thinking The Witch’in Way put into this box impresses me. A Yule Log that can be used in all size spaces and saved year round. How to incorporate your entire family into your celebrations. Creating something to Bless & Protect your home that looks so lovely. The thoughtfulness of including Holiday Cards to send your friends and family.

The Witch’in Way was very generous with their size of products. They definitely did not hold back with their generous supply of oil and herbs. I guess the only thing I could say is that the Informational Pages should have included those things like the charcoal, tealights, and the rune information. But that is so insignificant compared to all they offer!

Let’s meet The Witch’in Way…

Willow Moonhawk is the wonderful woman behind The Witch’in Way. She has taken some time from her busy schedule to answer a few questions with us at PaganPages.org

PaganPagesOrg: What brought the idea of the Mystery Box to you?

Willow Moonhawk: I will no longer be offering a Mystery Box/Surprise Box.  When The Witch’in Way began there were 3 of us, then 2 and now only myself, Willow Moonhawk.  I have been doing the boxes myself for approximately 6 months and felt I couldn’t keep up on my own while also working full-time night shifts as a nurse.

I will be only offering Boxes for the Sabbat Months, and on occasion may offer other Themed Boxes as well.

PaganPagesOrg: I am sorry to hear that you will no longer have your Mystery Boxes, but so happy that you will still have your Sabbat Boxes. Your Boxes are amazing and it would be sad for the community to lose them. I look forward to seeing some of your Theme Boxes. How did you begin the Sabbat Boxes?

Willow Moonhawk: I always wanted to start a pagan related business, and the subscription box service has become increasingly popular.  The idea was presented through the original partnership.

PaganPagesOrg: How do you choose what you place in your Boxes?

Willow Moonhawk: Items are chosen to coincide with the Pagan holidays and are meant to be tools and items that can be used in ritual and day-to-day practice.  The herbs and stones are chosen for the Sabbat as well.

PaganPagesOrg: Is yours a recurring monthly Box?

Willow Moonhawk: The Boxes originally were offered on a monthly basis, but as of March 1st, 2018 they will only be offered in a limited number via The Witch’in Way Etsy shop.  The goal is to be able to offer 5 -10 Boxes for each Sabbat.

PaganPagesOrg: Are you, yourself Pagan?

Willow Moonhawk: I am a practicing Pagan, and have been since 1999.  I am eclectic, but am drawn to Norse and Egyptian pantheons.  I am also a natural medium.

Thank you so much Willow Moonhawk from The Witch’in Way for chatting with us and Sharing!

The BOHO Box

The BOHO Box is a recurring monthly box subscription full of surprises like beautiful boho jewelry, natural beauty products and cosmetics, essential oil-based perfumes, incense, crystals, candles… and surprise gifts like dreamcatchers or leather journals. Their boxes are $39.95 a month.

Right now they are only shipping within the United States, but if you join their Newsletter you get 10% off your first box!

The BOHO Box has sent us a box to review…so let’s get right to it.

The Box Arrives…

The BOHO Box comes in a completely plain brown outer box. This is great news to me. Though I am out of the broom closet (and you can find me kissing the tree in front of my house when I borrow from it) I favor this due to the fact that many are in the broom closet and you never know about nosy neighbors seeing things on your front doorstep.

However…

Inside this box is another box and the beginning of the goodies! This box is beautifully decorated with their logo and states proudly “The BOHO Box”. You also pull out your first gifts that give you an inkling of what your box will be like.

First, A Bumper Sticker that states “Follow the Moon”. Nice, bright, and simple. You can put it on your car, altar, or anywhere.

Next, you pull out a real delight that makes you think. A gorgeous, handcrafted mask. With glorious plumage. The jewels around the eyes give it a festive effect. Great for Samhain, a party, or a fun ritual/spell.

Now I’m really curious. Let’s open this box and really dig in!

Included Papers

When the box with The BOHO Box business logo on top is opened you are greeted by a purple wax sealed letter. There are 2 pages to the letter. The first page is a letter that states all the goings on within the company and is very interesting. It tells you the topic of the Box for the month. Our Topic: Moon Goddess! The first letter goes on to detail all that is held within the box and what everything is used for.

The second page is information on different Moon Goddesses from all over the world. (Pictured in full box photo later.)

The letters are printed on beautiful parchment paper. The wax seal adds an elegant touch.

Spooky & Elegant Rhinestone Spider Bracelet

Who would like a spider bracelet? I would! Especially one like this! Elegant is definitely the word for this bracelet. The rhinestones have a wonderful crystal-like feel. Sturdy, not cheaply made or flimsy. The design is gorgeous. Clasps on easily. No fear of falling off. The way it clasps it seems to be able to fit multiple size wrists.

Wild & Free Boho Crescent Moon Layer Necklace

This decorative necklace has a very creative design. It harnesses the moons power in many creative fashions. It definitely has a wild & free feel to it. The short part of the necklace has a choker feel to it, while the long piece gives you a lariat effect. Both work together to give a wonderful appearance.

Anointing Oil Formulated for Rituals & Spells

Given to us is Samhain Anointing Oil for Rituals & Spells by one of the most trusted and best Pagan companies known to us online shoppers, Azure Green. It smells wonderful, like nutmeg and cloves.

Boho Ring with Mandala Inspired Design

It’s Large in design size and very pretty. But it’s hard to send a ring. The finger size is average to small. It didn’t fit me or my young niece. I did find someone for it to fit and she loves it. So that makes me very happy because it really is a very pretty piece. I can see how difficult it is to include a ring in a box. It’s a wonderful idea, though.

Black Pouch Containing Gemstones

The black velvet pouch contains 3 raw stones, this means they are not polished down to smooth stones. You get the in their raw energies. The stones are a Black Obsidian, which has a glorious shine to it. An Amethyst and a Moonstone. They are all sparkly, huge pieces. The reasons for sending them and their correspondences are listed on the papers sent.

The Moon Incense Cones

The Moon Incense are from HEM which is a company, if you burn incense on a regular basis, you may know well. They are a great company. Well known and trusted. The scent is relaxing when burned, it gives a clean aroma.

Celtic Inspired Crescent Moon Pendant

Beautiful moon with lovely markings. Almost looks like marcasite. The three bulbs could represent the triple goddess. Choker length. Good medium size.

Silver Nail Polish to Mirror your Jewelry

Now that you shine with your new jewelry, your beautiful mask, and your fully anointed, why not have your nails shine, too!! This is a full size bottle of Silver, shiny polish. Not sample sized. It’s silver, also, not like foil, or a gray.

Moonstone Pendulum

Good weight. The peachy color to the pendulum is delicious. The gemstones that run up the chain are brilliant shades. The gemstone chips on the balancing side of the pendulum are a very pretty touch.

Cloth Pendulum Mat

As if a pendulum was not enough, a pendulum mat was sent! I have not seen one of these. I am used to seeing pendulum worksheets on paper. This is a thick cloth. The bottom side has a grip type fabric to it. The top is made of a velvet type fabric. It is a lot fun to work with. We tried it with those new to the pendulum and those who are old hands at the pendulum and they both enjoyed it.

Starry Forest Card to be Framed

A beautiful picture is sent to inspire you. It is of the night sky in the forest. The stars in the background look as if they glow. The picture is for you to save and frame or just hang. It really is breathtaking.

Personal Oracle Card Reading

I found this reading to be something rather incredible because it hit right on what I was going through at the moment. Without the round about mumbo jumbo that could fit any situation. It spoke to me directly. Also, sage advice was given.

The card that was drawn for you, is given to you to keep. The deck the card is taken from is beautiful. The advice is given on parchment paper. I found this part of the box to be the most inspirational.

Over All Impression…

I think The BOHO Box had me from the wax seal! No wait, the mask! It spoke of surprise and whimsy ahead. Boy did they deliver! Each turn had a new surprise and unique gift. This box made me shine in so many ways. It made me feel pretty and good inside and out!

The jewelry and polish made me shine & glow on the outside. The incense and stones had me feeling good spiritually. The pendulum, pendulum mat & anointing oil The BOHO Box provided helped me to be more spiritual in my everyday life.

Now this reading The BOHO Box sent me. Honestly, it blew me away. I don’t know how they did it. How they can give a personal reading to touch everyone in a subscription box, but they do. It was personally addressed to me, by name and all. I am very, very impressed. The box is only $39.95 and for all you get, I find this a very fair price.

So who is behind The BOHO Box? Her name is Diana Price and she took some time from her very busy schedule to talk with us at PaganPagesOrg about The BOHO Box and more.

PaganPagesOrg: What brought the idea of The BOHO Box to you?

Diana Price: Even before I discovered that the box subscription phenomena was a real “thing,” I thought it would be cool to create a subscription to some kind of box filled with things to pamper people and make then feel good. Then I discovered a lot of people were already doing that and became a subscriber to a box myself.

When that box arrived every month, I was downright giddy. That great feeling inspired me to get serious and do it myself. I have many interests, mainly metaphysical, but I was building a boho lifestyle blog and decided to go with The Boho Box first. Ironically, that boho site is being revamped because I discovered that “gypsy” is considered a racial slur, so The Soul of a Gypsy has to be completely rebranded. Fortunately, The Boho Box also has a separate site/domain.

I’ve also secured domains and social media for an astrology box and may try to create one for my jewelry/metaphysical store, The Midnight Rose, but I’m still learning the ropes with The Boho Box. One at a time…

PaganPagesOrg: How did you begin the process of the subscription?

Diana Price: I joined up on groups with others doing subscription boxes to learn as much as possible and signed up with the selling platform Cratejoy, but the costs of it are high, so I am trying to funnel subscribers directly to my site with the hope of reducing the cost.

I already had a list of suppliers from trying to launch online stores in the past and a small store on my Tarot and Horoscopes site, so I had the resources for the products already.

PaganPagesOrg: How do you choose what to put inside the boxes?

Diana Price: I try to choose monthly themes and sort of match things up, but this last month I think I got a little too caught up in that. I had found these gorgeous crystal lotuses, then choose very sparkly jewelry to go along with it. It didn’t go over so well, so lesson learned…. stay BOHO!

I still try to keep with a theme because ideally I want all the jewelry pieces to work together so people can layer, but check myself to make sure I stay in line with the boho style.

After the jewelry pieces are selected, I browse through my suppliers and start filling in the other goodies. I’m also wanting to create more handcrafted items starting with the February box.

Basically, I try to create a box I’d love and get excited about opening.

PaganPagesOrg: Is The BOHO Box a recurring monthly box subscription?

Diana Price: Yes, it’s a monthly subscription.

PaganPagesOrg: Are you, yourself a pagan?

Diana Price: Yes, although I tend to be a bit of a closeted one, not talking much about that or my tarot and astrology interests with many casual friends because I’ve been burned in the past by that. Many years ago I worked night shift in a nursing home and would bring books to read in the downtime, often on metaphysical topics. I found out from co-workers the Southern Baptist charge nurse was telling everyone I worshiped the devil and didn’t know it, and even said “Suffer not a witch to live.”

I was devastated. Unfortunately, many who visit your site will probably have a similar story.

I’m working on being more open about my pagan and Gothic sensibilities. I’m currently on a travel nurse job in Charleston, SC, and as I was driving around, I realized my style and the vibe I REALLY want for my new store and jewelry line, The Midnight Rose, is more witchy southern Gothic and I need to fully embrace that. I had been sort of “mainstreaming” the jewelry line and avoiding anything too pagan or dark, but that’s who I am and I need to embrace it.

PaganPagesOrg: What are some of your interests?

Diana Price: I love to travel, although preferably without the nightmare of a temp job I’m currently on, and love photography, tarot, and I’ve been doing paranormal investigations. I’m also getting serious about candle-making and natural beauty products as well as jewelry design.

I’m quite the foodie, so I’m trying to cram in as much fine dining as possible while in Charleston and I’m taking next weekend to visit Savannah. I’m sure I’ll return inspired!

PaganPagesOrg: Do you sell other products?

Diana Price: Yes, as I touched on, The Midnight Rose will be selling more than jewelry when it’s fully up and running – also new and vintage clothing, custom candles, herbs, natural beauty products, and Victorian/Southern Gothic gifts as well as tarot readings and astrology charts/reports. I’ve also started designing a line of Semicolon jewelry for suicide awareness.

PaganPagesOrg: Is there anything else you would like to add about yourself or your boxes?

Diana Price: Like many other box businesses, I’m just a small, “mom and pop” operation, but I take each box personally and always try to deliver a lot of value and something that makes people happy. I think that’s especially important right now in these dark times we’re living in. I believe one of the best ways to fight back against that darkness is to spread as much light and positivity into the world as possible.

I’d like to thank Diana Price for talking with us and I wish her so much prosperity on her endeavors. I know I can not wait to see her new ideas. If they are anything like The BOHO Box I know they will be great!!

Review of Box of Shadows

Box of Shadows is a recurring monthly Pagan Box subscription site. They offer three, very different, types of boxes. Each Box as different and interesting as the next, making choosing one a difficult decision! Their prices range from $24.99 to $44.99 + S/H.

(The Supreme Box by Box of Shadows)

This month I will be reviewing Box of Shadows “The Supreme” Box. At $44.99, it is described as being for the “Advanced Seeker,” based on the wheel of the year.

Arrival Package

(Arrival Photo)

My Box of Shadows came in the mail in an unassuming package. No Pagan graphics or any tells. This I like because I know many who are still in the Broom Closet and receive much of their supplies or goodies through the mail. They do not, however, enjoy seeing packages arrive with huge pentacles, or any type of Pagan symbols on the them.

Opening the Box

As soon as you open your box you are thrown into a feast for a lot of your senses. Your eyes feast on all the wonders in font of you. You automatically want to touch & grab at everything. The beautiful aromas of mints and spices tempt your nose. You feel the need to dive right in. So let’s do just that…

What do we grab first?

The Pamphlet

Box of Shadows sends a pamphlet with each box. Printed on beautiful, good quality paper. The presentation is excellent. The cover of the pamphlet lists the contents in the box. Inside, you will find a good deal on the meaning & history of Samhain, ideal magicks practiced on the holiday, and ways to celebrate. The pamphlet goes on to describe some of the other contents found in the box in detail that have a history, correspondences, or need instructions.

Bundle of Undressed Candles

You are given a nicely wrapped set of 5, different colored Chime candles. I am guessing they are just to have in your supply box to use when needed. You need to know Candle Magick yourself.

While Box of Shadows comes with great background information & a wonderful book, as well (reviewed later in the article), it does not give information (correspondences) on everything. As they state when you purchase the box, it is for the “Advanced Seeker”.

Palo Santo Chips

Large, 1oz Bag comes with full instructions and different uses for the chips written on the back of packaging label. What I appreciated was that, instead of rehashing the information from the packaging, Box of Shadows pamphlet actually gives you more, added information on Palo Santo Chips, that is completely different from packaging. They double your knowledge.

Incense of the Month: Myrrh

1 box of 10 incense cones by HEM. You will need to know Myrrh’s proper usage. Good brand of incense. Well known. Good quality.

Spearmint

Large 1oz Bag. The scent is marvelous. You can smell the freshness. I enjoy the packaging, the look is Victorian to me. There is information on the back of the label on some of the uses of spearmint. The pamphlet, once again, does that wonderful thing of giving added information, different from the packaging, on the herb.

Lapis Lazuli

You are actually given a good sizable stone. It is polished. The shape is pleasing & it fits lovely in the palm of your hand. It has a good weight to it. Will be very nice to work with. It’s correspondences are listed in the pamphlet.

Samhain Votive by Modern Magix

The aroma coming from this votive is heavenly. It is packed with herbs on top and the label lists the exact ingredients you will find on it. What I love about this candle, is that it is a Spell. The wrapper that gives the ingredients, also, gives the instructions on what to do with the candle for the Spell on Samhain. It is awesome.

Gemstone Pendulum

The pendulum feels nice in the hand and is weighted well. The stone is Gorgeous! I just wish I knew what stone it is. The pamphlet gives a wonderful Pendulum Scrying Instructional. It gives you information on what you need to know on how to cleanse, charge, and use your new divinitory tool.

Clarity Spray by Frequency

This is gemstone infused oil. The smell is herby & cleansing. I have never worked with anything like this before & find it interesting and look forward to learning more about it and how I can use it in my workings on a more daily basis. It seems, to me, a good addition to my craft. This item is listed on the table of contents but not described in the pamphlet. Box of Shadows does include the companies business card, however, with a 10% discount coupon.

Altar Cloth

One word “HUGE”!

Okay, more than one word…Beautiful. I was not expecting the delicately folded cloth to open to such a size or have such a wonderful pattern. It is a fantastic altar cloth.

A Copy of the Book “Samhain” by Diana Rajchel

Part of a series of books by Llewellyn that share the history, as well as, the modern information on the sabbat’s of the witch’s year. They give great information in the book, such as; the correspondences for Samhain in the back for quick reference. It has ideas on crafts to make for the holiday which range from fun things like costumes and pumpkin decorating, to Ritual crafts, like making Samhain incense. There are meditations, spells, divination, lore, and so much more packed into this 251 page book. After reading it, there is no way you will not have a clue about Samhain or Halloween!!

(Full Contents of Box of Shadows “The Supreme” Box)

Over All Impression…

Box of Shadows “The Supreme” Box gives you all you need to know about the upcoming Sabbat. Adding the book into the box is a brilliant idea. There is no better way to teach of a Sabbat! Their pamphlet, while it didn’t cover everything, was, I found, extremely excellent on the information it did give. Adding more information then the packaging already had to add to our knowledge. They were generous, they did not hold back on portions/size/volume. The quality of product is definitely there. The freshness of the herb, the brand of the incense. The packaging was on point. The price is phenomenal for all that you get. This box is definitely, well Worth the Witch!

Now just who is behind Box of Shadows? We got a chance to talk with Founder of Box of Shadows Chatonia Underwood

PaganPages(PP): What brought the idea of Box of Shadows to you?

Chatonia Underwood(CU): I had been studying Wicca for a few years while I was also in college pursuing a Business Administration degree. This was when the subscription box craze had just started to gain popularity. One day a friend mentioned that she wished there was a Birchbox for pagans and all kinds of light bulbs went off in my head.

PP: How did you begin the process of the subscription?

CU: It was a few years after I had the initial idea that I was finally in a place where I could pursue it. I had done tons of research online about how to start a subscription box business. I spent about a year putting the idea out into the internet to see if anyone would be interested. The response was overwhelming so with a lot of help from Cratejoy, we launched on September 1st, 2015.

PP: How do you choose what to put inside the boxes?

CU: Brainstorming box contents is one of my favorite parts of running Box of Shadows. We select a theme that each box tier will correspond to and go from there. Supporting the pagan community is important to us so we source most of our inventory from other small, pagan businesses.

PP: Is Box of Shadows a recurring monthly box subscription?

CU: Yes, Box of Shadows is a monthly recurring subscription. We also offer 3, 6, and 12 month pre-pay plans.

PP: Are you, yourself a pagan?

CU: Short answer, yes. I consider myself a solitary, eclectic spiritualist.

PP: What are some of your interests?

CU: I’m a nerd. 🙂 I love comic books and video games. Harry Potter is my favorite book series of all time and I dabble with cosplay. On a more spiritual note, I read tarot and practice yoga (not as much as I should 🙂 ). I love spending time in nature and have recently started studying holistic herbalism.

PP: Do you sell other products?

CU: We recently launched the Box of Shadows online shop. There you can find items that were included in previous boxes. As well as, specialty items made by some of our partners and basic supplies (candles, sage, incense, etc.). We hope to be a one stop shop for all of our customers needs.

I’d like to thank Chatonia Underwood for the lovely interview.
