The Road to Runes: The Right Headspace

Reading runes is a form of divination. All forms of divination require an open mind ready to receive messages and interpret symbols. A stressed and worried mindset will lead to false interpretations, or prevent messages coming through at all. Even the strongest connection between diviner and tools can be blocked by a worried mind or troubled soul.

Of course, we often look for answers from the runes because we are troubled and worried. So how can we stop these worries affecting our divination?

Relax

As an anxious person, believe me, I know this is easier said than done. Relaxation becomes even trickier when you have lots of questions on your mind. However there are several techniques you can use to relax your body, which will normally also help relax your mind.

Listening to music is an old standard for me. Very familiar songs allow me to blank out everything else in my mind, and I often find that belting out a good tune can release a lot of pent-up tension. Classical music can also be very relaxing, but if you’re someone who finds classical music boring, don’t go down this route! Spend some time figuring out which music relaxes you. Are you more relaxed after shouting along to something upbeat? Or by closing your eyes and letting some panpipes wash over you? Services like Spotify are great as they allow you to search for relaxation music and sounds, if you can’t think of anything from your own collection.

The pendulum method, or progressive muscular relaxation (PMR) is also a method I use to help me relax. It also works for sleeplessness. It consists of deliberately tensing groups of muscles, then allowing them to relax. The idea is that for the pendulum to swing the most one way, you first have to pull it all the way in the other direction. So muscles will relax better, or feel more relaxed, after being tense. You may start with your hands, work up to the shoulders, then down to the feet, all the way back up the body leaving neck and face until last. I tend to start with the feet and really take my time. I will talk to myself mentally as I do this: “I’m tensing my toes; I’m relaxing my toes. I’m tensing my feet; I’m relaxing my feet,” and so forth. The combination of muscular relaxation with focusing on the task will leave body and mind loose and ready for anything.

Meditate

Rune meditation is a specific type of meditation designed for understanding the runes better. However, any form of meditation before divination can help make the mind more receptive to messages and more skilled at interpretation. Meditation helps move our mind onto a different level of operating, and allows us to let go of thoughts and feelings which may be bothering us unduly.

Breathing is the key to meditation. A very skilled meditation master advised me that breath is the only tool we ever need. Philosophical, but also accurate. Find yourself a comfortable position. There’s no rule that says you have to sit cross legged, or sit at all. Laying down is perfectly acceptable, although there is the risk of falling asleep! I have joint issues which means it’s very painful for me to sit cross-legged, so I normally sit on a chair or on my sofa, supported by cushions in order to have a straight back whilst remaining relaxed. Once you are comfortable, start to focus on your breath. Breathe naturally, but make a note of it flowing in and out of your body. Notice the breath coming in, then feel it leaving you. In, then out. Imagine yourself breathing in fresh, cooling air, and imagine any stress or tension leaving you with every out breath. Inhale refreshment, exhale stress and worry. Inhale light, expel confusion. Inhale relaxation, exhale aggravation.

If you struggle to breathe normally whilst focusing on your breath, try counting as you breathe. Breathe in through your nose for a slow count of four, then breathe out for a slow count of five. There are lots of different breathing techniques to allow you to enter a meditative state. Once you find your mind starting to relax, you can start to let go of troublesome thoughts. Notice them appear, then just let them drift away. Don’t try to quiet your mind; this is impossible and can make you feel more stressed when you fail. Let the thoughts rumble through your mind but treat them as though you are watching traffic, or the birds flying by. You don’t need to be involved with them right now. Observe them, then let them pass. Stay in this state for as long as is comfortable or until you feel relaxed and comfortable. Always come back to yourself slowly, and gently. Drink some water. Thank yourself for the gift of relaxation. Now you are ready to read your runes.

The Death Show: A 14-Part Series on Healing and Understanding presented by The Outer Limits of Inner Truth Radio Show

About:

…”The World’s Only Show About Forensic Soul Analysis. If Science & Mysticism got married, the Outer Limits of Inner Truth radio show would be their child. OLIT (Outer Limits of Inner Truth) is a program about introspection, discovery, and evolution. It premiered on February 2014 and within a few short months, was picked up for national syndication on Starcom Radio Networks (44 AM Stations). In 2018, OLIT was picked up by Mental Health News Radio Network (a large media network that features programs about psychology and mental health)…”

This 14-Part series about Death is comprehensive and informative in its presentation. Each broadcast is an hour or more in content with each section parceled out to reflect all of the stages, questions and beliefs about Death. The collection of more than seventy interviews is a mix of select listeners and a heavy dose of professional clairvoyants, psychics, mediums, artists, clinical psychologists, therapists, Reiki Masters and more. Overall, I found the broadcasts to more than adequately foster a place of community, sharing and counsel that is applicable to all aspects of the grieving process and more importantly to the fear of the unknown and our own mortality.

Although time intensive, I enjoyed listening to the different perspectives presented and broadening my own philosophies regarding the Death Process. My Mother passed two years ago on September 22nd., so the information presented was both timely and comforting.

These are the topics explored:

The Healing Process Begins

Managing Mindset Parts 1 and 2

Exploring Mental Health and remaining centered and focused throughout the grieving process.

What You Can Do For Others

Practical advice on how to navigate grief as a support for the bereaved. It is a delicate space of knowing when and how to interject your support and sympathy when you are trying to offer comfort. Understanding what this looks like and that every individual is unique in how they process loss provides the necessary insight in reading the situation and assessing the need.

The Virtues

The Virtues are the Elite Team of experts on the Outer Limits including a Medium (Lisa McGarrity), Psychic Empath (Kerrie O’Connor), Animal Communicator (Lisa Caza) and Astrologer (Constance Stellas).

I was particularly drawn to this fifth installment and discussion of the Soul’s Journey and past life experience. All of us want more information on what to expect of our own death and how to reach out to those who have passed. Questions such as – How long before you should wait to attempt contact with your loved one? What forms do the Spirits take when they present themselves to the psychic/medium? How are they able to communicate?

How soon after the passing would you wait to connect? – general rule of thumb about 1 year for clear connection.

I especially liked the simplicity of this suggestion by Lisa McGarity:

What to do if you would like to communicate with someone passed over…..

Sending the intention of being able to clearly communicate with your loved one. Write a letter as though you were going to interact on a physical level. Often the response will come in the form of a dream or impression.

Teachers and Mystics Parts 1 and 2

There are many beliefs and cultural bias around death. Hearing some of these teachings and the ways we process the spiritual nature of death. Precepts such as non-judgment and the dispelling of the illusion of corporeal and manifest life. The Soul and the human form are reflections of consciousness and the levels of understanding and development that has occurred within manifest form, aligning the transition from life to death into the point of resonant energy.

Near death Experiences 3-Parts

A series of interviews with individuals who have had NDEs and their unique stories that carry some of the common threads.

Nanci’s Story

An depth sharing of a NDE and the blueprint of our cosmology that she was given.

Communication With the Departed

How communication occurs and the various modalities and types of communion that can be used to seek counsel from those passed.

Animal Afterlife

This section offered some much needed comfort and information to those who have lost a beloved animal companion.

Science and Skeptism

The conclusion of the series attempts to bring science and the inherent skeptic nature into cohesion. It concludes with a 4-way debate between the host, Ryan McCormick, David Silverman President of the American Atheists, David I. Orentein, Ph.D., Humanist Clery and Atheist author and speaker

NDE Researcher Dr. Jeffrey Long. The opening question posited by the host, Ryan is:

What if all of the previous segments were “bullshit”? What if science had a logical explanation for everything stated and there was nothing mystical about the experience of death? Ryan goes on to encourage listeners to develop their own belief systems rather than “following” the conclusions of others. This segment opens with an interview with Bob Berman, astronomer and co-author of Biocentrism: How Life and Consciousness are the Keys to Understanding the True Nature of the Universe who promotes knowledge of our place within the Universe in both the stages of life and death and time’s role in creation.

The debate opens Pandora’s box of enabling the listener to formulate their own realities between what science and mysticism repel as truth and attempt to coalesce as belief.

Review: Council of Light – How to do Toe Readings Webinar with Katherine Veltri

Review: Council of Light – Toe Reading: How to do Toe Readings Webinar

Reading Your Soul Through Your Soles with Katherine Veltri

Before I started this course, I had never even heard of toe-reading. It was pure intrigue that led me to choose the course, as I’m always open to learning new things. That said, I was a tiny bit skeptical, as I felt it would be perhaps just a transplantation of ‘palm reading’ onto the feet, or something along those lines.

I’m pleased to say I was wrong, and that the skill of toe reading stands alone as a therapy quite in its own right. I was surprised to learn that each toe represents an element, and also a part of our psyche or personality. Also, deeper than that, how we interact with the associations of that toe depends which foot it is on. The shape and condition of the toes can also lend insight into the past life, or destiny of the foot owner.

The course itself is hosted by Katherine Veltri. Her introduction to the course is lovely; very upbeat, very positive; welcoming the student with ‘open arms and open heart’. She tells us a bit about herself, which is a nice touch. Congratulations on your upcoming bundle of Joy, Katherine! Once introductions are done, Katherine tells us a bit about her qualifications and how she loves to teach. It’s clear she has a real passion for learning and loves to instill that passion in others. Her introduction leaves me excited to start the course.

This toe-reading course is one of the shorter courses on the Council of Light training pages, and is priced accordingly. It’s very short, but well worth the few dollars you would normally pay to gain access. All the coursework is downloadable, so there is no time limit to complete the work. I doubt this would be an issue anyway, as once you start the ‘webinar’, the coursework is interesting and keeps you engaged. The webinar is basically a slide show that takes you through all the aspects of toe reading, from the history and basic principles to actually putting it into practice. I don’t want to say too much about the details of the content, as that seems unfair to the Council of Light and their paying customers! I can say that the coursework follows a consistent thread, is clear, easy to follow, and leaves you keen to learn more.

My favourite thing about the toe reading course is the way it teaches you to be open and non-judgemental with those you may practice on. It encourages open questions, without probing, and discourages diagnosis. My overall feeling was, even if you don’t believe that the toes hold genuine insight into someone’s past or their destiny, you can absolutely use toe reading as a tool to open up gentle conversations that may allow the client to be honest with themselves about crucial situations in their own life. Discussing the different aspects the toes represent is a way to encourage a therapeutic and holistic approach to mental well-being, and could be very useful to lots of different types of people. I can imagine that toe reading could easily be implemented by reflexologists, masseurs and a range of holistic practitioners.

Overall, I’ve enjoyed my first course with the Council of Light immensely, and look forward to my next educational foray. I’m hoping to do some study with them around Chakra Meditation soon, so watch this space for further reviews.

Meditation Moment

January, 2014

Darkest Night of the Soul

The Winter Solstice is the longest night of the year, which means each night following gets shorter, each day gets that much longer, until the summer solstice in June.

Some people stay up on the longest night of the year, burning Yule logs, waiting to witness the rebirth of the sun.  This meditation is for those of us who like that idea, but really don’t have the energy to pull that kind of thing off.

I have designed this meditation to work as a miniature “darkest night of the soul,” where you give form to your negative energy until it crushes itself out of you, leaving only the best and brightest parts of you behind.

As always, make yourself comfortable and separate yourself from distractions.  In a moment, you will give form to the darkest parts of yourself, so it would be prudent to surround yourself with cleansing and protective tools.  You may consider performing this meditation in the bathtub, soaking in sea salt water, with incense or essential oils.  You could sit surrounded by tea light candles, light some sage, and create a protective circle to capture and nullify the negative energy.  You can use stones, jewelry, and any other tools that call to you for this purpose.  Get all set up, set aside at least half an hour of uninterrupted you-time, and get to it.

Breathe deeply and slowly.  With every inhale, feel peace and relaxation overtake your mind, heart, body, and spirit.  With every exhale, feel stress and tension pour out of you through your breath.

Imagine yourself waiting out the longest night of the year, witnessing the darkness.  As the hours drag on, all your worries, fears, and hurts seem to grow in size and power in the dark.  You can sense them swelling up like balloons filled with the breath of your complaints, or sponges soaking up the energy of your overwhelm, getting so big and so close to you they block out the light of the stars, even the light of the moon.

These negative energies get bigger and stronger the more you dwell on them, sometimes taking on the voices and features of people in your life who embody each for you – the people who criticize you, the people who discourage you, the people who hurt you, upset you, anger you, while nameless fears and unvoiced pains smother you.  Under the weight of this crushing negativity, you feel yourself break open.

You can’t take anymore, so you release.  You cry.  You rage.  You shake.  You scream.  You let it all out, push all the fear, all the hurt, all the shame, all the blame, all the anger and frustration OUT of you, giving it back to the Earth.  When it’s over, when you feel most empty, you discover a simple truth about yourself.

When all of the darkness is expelled, only light remains.

At your heart, you are light.  You are made of stars, and they shine inside you, nourished by hope, joy, love, and gratitude.  Feed your light now, at this, your rebirth.  Bathe yourself in memories of all of your favorite pleasures.  Fill yourself with unconditional love as you have experienced it, perhaps for a child or a pet, and hold that love close to yourself.  Remember the things that make you smile, the surprises that make you laugh with joy.  Allow tears of gratitude to overflow from your eyes as you fervently thank the Light for the people, memories, and things that you most cherish, and for the gifts you can now feel are on their way to you, called by your light.

The more you feed your light, the brighter it shines, the bigger it grows, pushing away those dark demons of despair and overwhelm that beat you down before.  For this glorious moment, the light inside you has triumphed over the dark.  You’ve done it once, and you know you can do it again, and each time you will do it just a bit longer, each time your light will be that much stronger.

Filled with radiance, with hope, love, gratitude, and joy, come back to yourself.  Breathe.  Stretch.  Hug yourself.  Laugh.  Give voice to your joy.

Welcome home.

Meditation Technique for Soul Development

July, 2006

The topic of Meditation to me, is one of the most absolutely exciting topics in the Consciousness or new age field. Having learned to meditate, myself, when I was 19 years old, in the hey days of 1970, I can say with some experience, “Wow”! I’ve recently been invited to create a column on meditation which I am very excited to do.

Introduction

There are a few misunderstandings as to exactly what meditation is so I’ll begin with a brief introduction. Meditation, the ancient art and science of “Purposeful Thinking”, is one of the most significant things that one can do in life. Meditation can be informal, it can be introspection, and it can be simple musings. It can be formal. It can be a technology for enlightenment. Let’s begin by saying ‘Meditation’, is a soul activity of self-illumination.

The Benefits of Meditation

Meditation has been practiced for literally thousands of years. It has immense and important human value and benefits. To begin with meditation is ‘thinking’. So, to think, as Descartes said: ‘Is to Be’. Personally I wrote this article in college saying Descartes got it backwards. Instead of his famous cogito “I think, therefore I am”, I said: “I think he should have said: “I am, therefore I think!” Oh, well, I got an A, though my college professor thought it was a bit presumptuous of me to think I knew more than Descartes.

I didn’t have the guts yet, to tell him I’d recently learned to meditate, and the simple truth just occurred to me!

Meditation, then, the activity of taking time out, and ‘thinking’ can be Introspective, which has many values; from ‘think before you leap’, type of results, to profound insight into your trade, work, or life!

Most creative people say their quiet; reveries are where they get all their ideas, creative notions and ‘ahas’!

Have you heard that we use only a small portion of our potential? Even modern science acknowledges that human beings use as little as 10 or 15% of their natural potential. It’s also known that the brain itself is only using 20% of its capacities. They don’t even known what the rest is for!

In the last 40 years, over 600 scientific studies have been done on meditation. We know, more, today, then at; any time in human history; what the value and benefits are in meditation. Even the government recently awarded a 2 million dollar grant for meditation to study the benefits for reducing stress. This new grant was to see if meditation could help improve the stress of black African Americans.

I could spend a year trying to describe all the benefits of meditation. Hey, maybe that’s what we sould do! Hehe. For today, I’ll just say the benefits are immense. From simple quieting of the mind, to release of stress, to deep inward Cosmic and Enlightenment experiences, to more creativity, millions of people today meditate for all kinds of reasons.

I myself, after practicing meditation for a few years, went off to and learned how to teach others “How to Meditate”. In the following months, please write in regarding those of you who are already meditating and share with all, your experiences and benefits.

Kinds of Meditation

There are a number of general categories or ways of meditating that one can consider. For example, meditation can be simply thinking or introspection. It can be done informally, at different times of the day and night. It can be done at home or on the road. It can be done at work, it can be done while on vacation. Meditation can also be practiced formally. There are gobs and gobs of different meditations that have been introduced to the public in the last 50 years.

West & East

I used to think ‘meditation’ was a uniquely Eastern practice from the mysterious East. Over the years I discovered that there’s a rich history of study and practice of meditation by many, many people and orders throughout the West for centuries. Though admittedly meditation has gone farthest in the East, still its values and benefits are not privileged to there, alone.

2 Basic Kinds of Meditation

There are basically two kinds of meditation. #1 there’s the activity of turning within and thinking. Thinking or contemplation, introspection, all these activities of the mind have to do with what I like to call: “Thinking about thinking!” There’s a great value in thinking and contemplating. We have this prejudice against the man thinking on his navel, so to speak; especially being such an outward and materialistic society, still, meditation now has become widely accepted throughout the Western World.

Contemplation

Heck, even doctors are prescribing meditation to their patients! My sister a number of years ago was visiting her doctor and he recommended that she learn to meditate! She laughed and told me her eyes rolled when he said this, she saying: “Oh, no, not you too. My brother’s always trying to get me into meditation.” Well, she started but I sincerely wish she had continued because she now has very advanced Cancer without much prognosis for survival.

Transcendental

The primary other classification of meditation is for mental development. Meditation now has been discovered to literally expand our potential! Even scientific research is showing that meditation continues unfolding one’s innate intelligence or IQ! Previously it had been discovered that 99% of people’s IQ stops growing around the age of 20-23 years of age. Perhaps this is why human beings, traditionally have so many problems in life. Imagine if our potential was to type or play the piano with 10 fingers and we were restricted to just one!

Looking back now, I think my life before meditation was like living life with only 1 finger! It certainly felt like it!

So, ‘transcending’ meditation means ‘Expansive’ or literally to “go beyond”. Transcending types of meditation, literally allow the mind to expand and like the MOON, getting bigger and bigger, with each meditation the mind seems brighter, more alert, and more awake!

This ‘expansion’ subjectively has been experienced by almost all manners of groups, religious orders, and Philosophies. All report the strange and mysterious quality of other worldliness that comes during meditation. Image, for a moment, that your mind, your heart, your soul is literally only using 10% of its potential. You’re like a huge iceberg, with only a small fraction showing above the surface.

So, you dive! You dive within. You draw from your depths within, and begin to bring out more of that inner reservoir, which has been previously hidden. There are many kinds of subjective experiences that can be had during the practice, but it’s reported, universally, that the value and benefit of meditation, is not restricted, only to those inner sublime or expanded experiences or states of Being and Consciousness!

The real value of meditation seems to be for its permanent improvements in our lives, outside, in practical living.

The Future of Meditation

The future of meditation looks very bright. Unlike the 1970’s when I first started teaching and people would say: “Release of Stress!, no, we Want our employees to be stressed!” It was mind boggling to me at the time, and so I was quite shocked when I had a chance to teach full-time again in the early 90’s in Atlanta . I kind of sheepishly arrived for my appointment with the President of a business there, and was getting to that part where I explained how meditation could get rid of…’oh, do I dare say it: “Stress”, and he said: “Ahh, yes, release of stress! Yes, we’re all for that!”

I thought what happened, was I asleep, what happened in these last 20 years? Well, a whole world of growth and appreciation which I’m going to be soooo happy to share with you all over the next few months.

Again, feel free to write in with any questions, comments and experiences to share. Remember the quality of your thoughts today, is a reflection, or a mirror of your future! You know that old expression?

As a man thinketh, so shall he become.

If you want to improve your life, you have to improve your thoughts! Though of course, that’s been the difficulty in the past; generally thought to be very difficult to improve our thoughts.

Today, however, we’re on the verge of a great revival of the ancient art and science of meditation, because today it’s now known how to meditate in a natural, effortless and completely successful way!
