American Native Lore

In July, some tribes of the Native Americans referred to the Full Moon as the Full Buck Moon, because it was a time when the antlers began to emerge on the bucks with soft velvety coverings. Other Natives called it the Thunder Moon, because it is the time of the year when thunderstorms are most prominent. Farmers sometimes refer to it as the Full Hay Moon, because the hay fields were beginning to dry out enough to harvest the grains and bale the hay for future bedding and fodder for the animals.
