Smoky Quartz

Smoky Quartz comes in a range of shades from near clear with just a hint of the color that it’s named for, to such a dark color that it emulates the deepest and richest terra firma. No matter the color, these crystals radiate an earthy warmth that seriously gives me a sense of home. You know, that warm comfortable feeling that you get when you’re snuggled up under the softest blanket on the couch when everything feels right in the world and there’s no place you’d rather be? Well that’s exactly how I feel when I’m holding these crystalline beauties.

While worn it has been said that the wearer may experience some phenomena such as seeing fairies, spirits or aura’s. My experience with when wearing these crystals has been manifestation. At times its felt like I’ve had a direct connection to the Universe and what I’ve conjured or visualized in my mind seems to find its way to fruition. It’s funny how we can take these experiences, whether big or small, and just chalk them up to a happy happenstance when in fact the very crystal that you’re wearing has given your “voice” a boost to be heard and happily granted. Now I’m not saying that every wish or thought has come true, but what I am saying is if it’s something that would or should naturally fit in my path then it is created with an unexpected ease.

Smoky Quartz is known as one of the foremost grounding stones. In today’s word and life in general, it’s easy to get caught up or swept away in things that cause us distress or that makes us feel so completely disconnected that we feel like we’re floundering. When this happens to me the first thing I do is gather one, two or heck depending on how I feel I may grab all of them, then I cop a squat on the floor and let them do their magick. Usually I’ll instantaneously feel a calmness wash over me, and once my mind has quieted I’ll do a purposeful meditation that consists of grounding and cleansing my chakras.

These crystals are gifts from Mother Earth and powerful natural healers. It’s great to collect them for their beauty but when their metaphysical properties include protecting us from negative energies and absorbing an unlimited amount of it, then why not give them a try and see how they can work for you? I encourage you to set a journal aside just for your crystals. Sit down with them and take notes of how they make you feel, and please share your experiences with me. I would love to hear from you!

Healing Crystals for Men

A “Master Healing Crystal”. Also called “the Royal Stone”. Amethyst’s most noted healing quality is its ability to purify and transmute all forms of negativity. Get a large Amethyst Crystal cluster for your home or office to protect yourself from hostile energies around you. If anxiety causes shortness of breath, put the cluster on or near your chest and breath slowly for a few minutes to lessen the symptoms. Consider a large, well-set
amethyst gemstone ring to enhance your personal magnetism and to provide mental clarity. Amethyst is also helpful for migraines, arthritic pains, and connecting to one’s spirituality for guidance.

“The King of Crystals”. Diamond intensifies and activates one’s internal energies through its purity of vibration. The better the quality of Diamond, the better one’s own personal qualities and actions. When freely given,
Diamond power becomes activated and can be used for manifesting abundance and increasing personal self-esteem. It is a token of one’s love to another, and both enhances and radiates the beauty of the wearer. The diamond is also known for invincibility, representing the life force (prana).

The “Sex Stone”. Garnet strengthens and restores physical and emotional energy lost through constantly ensuring the protection and welfare of others. When you feel a bit lost or abandoned in the chaos of daily life,
Garnet helps to provide the needed grounding and empowering to become more decisive and committed to a direction. Garnet is well-known for enhancing and regenerating one’s sexuality (the physical aspects). For best
effects, tape a small half-inch piece at the Hara Centre – one and one-half inches below the navel – and wear it overnight.

“The Stress Stone”. Hematite is a versatile metallic-like crystal used for enhancing one’s logic, mathematical abilities, rational thinking and depth of technical knowledge. It grounds creative energy to make one’s thoughts
more practical and focused. As a “Stress Stone”, Hematite reflects negativity back to the sender, so you don’t end up with someone else’s stress. For backache or leg cramps, use surgical tape to fix a few pieces onto painful areas. The crystal’s energy is like a magnet and effectively draws out pain related to muscular or joint alignment problems. Hematite is also used to reduce insomnia.

A “Crystal of Tranquillity”. Also called “the Sport Stone”, promoting agility and swiftness. Many men from the Far East know the benefits of wearing Jade. Some will tell you that it is for their health, and how the color of the
Jade gets darker with good health and lighter with declining health. Jade soothes the emotions, and provides emotional detachment and restoration after various traumas such as minor surgery, divorce, funerals, or loss of job. Some say it is for good luck. Jade is a stone which is easily obtained in most city centers and can be openly worn as a pendant.

Lapis Lazuli

“The Stone of The Pharaohs”. Lapis Lazuli is well-known as a favorite stone used in the courts of the ancient Egyptian Kings. Lapis (stone) Lazuli (blue) is used for stimulating mental strength and intellectual precision.
Lapis is a consciousness elevator, raising one’s awareness to new heights and to greater expansion. It brings feelings of success and connected-ness and protection. For intuitive people, Lapis intensifies psychic power.

“A Man’s Stone”. The deep forest green of Malachite is symbolic of the deep healing and cleansing this stone provides. It can aid in breaking down old patterns, whether emotional (stuck patterns of behavior) or physical
(tumors, swollen joints, muscular). Malachite promotes business relationships and the increase of wealth by removing obstacles to one’s growth. The most important aspect of this crystal’s healing ability however, is for the preventative health of the physical heart and liver. If you are attracted to this crystal, chances are you have a family history of heart-related problems and probably need a heart check-up.

“The Feminine Balancing Crystal”. To soften and balance dominant male attributes with some feminine qualities, Moonstone provides for a depth of perception and feelings, discernment, creativity and self-expression.
Other properties of Moonstone include: increases awareness and focus, releases one’s intuition, rejuvenating qualities for the skin and hair (baldness?), reduces water retention, and protection for travelers. Moonstones increase their powers before and during the full moon, so leave them out at night to soak up the moon’s rays.

Rose Quartz

“The Love Stone”. Rose Quartz is another Master Healing Crystal that specializes in transmuting emotional negativity at all levels. It enhances one’s ability to give and receive love, by opening the Heart chakra and
stimulating greater flexibility in communications. It mellows out a reluctant Heart, and provides peace in relationships through harmony. Rose Quartz is used for meditation, as it stills one’s aggressive thoughts and provides mental tranquillity. It can heal a broken heart very quickly too.

Smokey Quartz

The “Emotional Balancer Crystal”. Smokey Quartz is a very specialized crystal for negative emotional energy. This crystal is excellent for mood swings, aggressive actions, ill temper, and generally nasty thoughts. It grounds all kinds of negative energy. This stone is helpful for burnout, fear of failure, reluctance to take risks, or wanting revenge, as well as for tendencies to over-eat, smoke or drink due to stress. It helps you accept
responsibility for yourself, and to broaden your capacity for effective communication by dissolving self-limiting perceptions.

Crystals for Headaches

Place either Crystal on your forehead or Third Eye.

A Stone of spiritual upliftment.  Mind quieting, wear it to reduce anger and impatience.  It aides in sleep and helps with nightmares.  Stress reliever.  Headache reducer.  Aids with sobriety in addictions of any kind.  Famous ancient detoxifier, especially helped with poisons and alcohol.  Worn by ancient Romans to prevent intoxication and restore courage.  It helps to prevent over indulgences and with the breaking of bad habits.

It is considered one of the most important love stones. It represents spiritual love and wisdom – opening and aligning all the chakras to love with its beautiful purple rays.

This loving stone teaches and protects in matters of spiritual quests, love, and forgiveness.  It protects the soul from shocks and traumas, clears disappointments and relieves spiritual tension, brings light and love to the darkest situations, and aids forgiveness by eliminating hostility. Place sugilite on the third eye to alleviate despair. Hold to the forehead for headaches. To increase protective energies of sugilite, combine with amethyst. To assist in the grounding of light in the physical world, combine with hematite. Sugilite teaches you how to live from your own truth. It imparts the ability to face unpleasant conditions, encourages positive thoughts, and releases emotional turmoil. Sugilite is used by healers for dyslexia, pain relief, motor dysfunction. Light colored sugilite is used to purify lymph and blood.  This rare stone is found in Japan and South Africa.

Labradorite belongs to the same mineral family (feldspar) as Sunstone, Larvikite, Spectrolite, and Moonstone. If the protecting feeling from this stone doesn’t draw you in then the jaw dropping rainbow of colors surely will.

Not only are these beauties protective, but they also heighten our ability to focus on personal issues without letting outside influences affect us. They allow us to work on our spiritual, mental and emotional selves by ridding us of any previous negative patterns. This stunning mineral is a potent magickal stone of transformation with its ability to awaken and heighten our mental and intuitive abilities.

It’s often suggested to place Labradorite on your Third Eye during meditation to receive visions of the future. I usually wear a large piece on a long chain because of it’s ability to balance and protect the aura. I also find that I’m drawn to wear this crystal when I’m needing a little boost of spiritual strength and grounding energies. Whether Labradorite calls to you for its metaphysical properties or for its beauty alone, definitely add this stone to your collection. No two are alike and you will be in a constant state of awe each time it flashes its brilliant colors at you.

Message of Topaz

Topaz wants you to open up your mind to receive the messages that are coming to you today. There are important things that you need to be aware of and your higher self is trying to help you out. You need to be able to stop and listen. The power of Topaz will help you to open yourself up so that you make a better channel for the words of divinity.

Topaz tells you that this is a good time for you to work on your astral traveling. You will be able to move forward and make connections with your spirit guides. This is the time when you will want to be paying special close attention to any animals that cross your path. Knowing what the significance of the different animals is will help you to open up yourself to finding out what the universe is trying to tell you.

Topaz wants you to learn how to communicate better with those around you and with yourself. You need to understand the power that words have. You have to be able to capture the power that they hold and use your own communication abilities to find the secrets that are now within your own reach.

Meditation for Topaz

The meditations for this month will be very personal. These meditations work best if you are able to hold the stone for the day in your hand but if not I will include pictures of the different stones that you can look at when you meditate. The meditations will require you to find a nice comfortable place to sit. You will need a meditation journal.

Find a comfortable place to sit and relax. Hold the stone or the image. Look at the stone very closely. Reproduce the image in your minds eye. When you have a clear and unbroken image of the stone close your eyes and breathe deeply. Allow yourself to relax and allow the stress and anxiety of the day to flow away.

When you are relaxed allow yourself to move closer to the stone. Allow yourself to flow freely down and into the heart of the stone. Here in the heart of the stone you will meet this stones keeper. Approach the keeper. The keeper will motion for you to sit and will begin to speak to you. Answer all questions and feel free to ask any question that comes to mind. When the conversation is complete the keeper will ask you for a gift. Give the gift freely and then return to your own body.

When you are back in your body write down any thing that the keeper said that rang with you. Write down anything the keeper asked you to do. Write a short reflection of what you felt and what you found to be important about this meditation.

author bio:

I have been studying Pagan traditions for my whole life. I have been publicly involved in Wicca for over a year. I have been a solitary all my life as my family seems to think that these leaning of mine qualify me for the black sheep of the family title. I have always been a little odd and unique. During my studies the one area I took to was Tarot.

I have read tarot cards for over 10 years now. I began as a closet reader. I would only read for myself and for a few close friends. Over 3 years ago I left my closet and joined the Canadian Tarot Network and began my journey of certification. I joined the Canadian Tarot Network because I wanted to learn more. I worked hard on my certification and I am still working. The highest degree right now for Tarot readers is Certified Grand master. This is my ultimate goal. Right now I am a Certified Tarot Master.

Aside from Tarot I love to write. I am in there process of putting a manuscript together for a submission to a publishing company. I am a Reiki 3 Master and I do a great deal of healing rituals. I love to write my own rituals and I am always researching something. I am currently a First Degree Priestess of the Correllian tradition. I am working on my second degree and hope one day to complete my third degree studies. I have given workshops on many different topics and for this reason my column "Advice from the Dragon’s Den" will hold a great deal of different types of information. There will be a lot of Tarot related information but you will be able to find other topics as well as time goes on.

Spring Cleaning

During this time of year, the winds are picking up, Marching us along to a more brisk beat as they blow us to and fro.  These winds symbolize more for us than new bothersome allergies and messed up hair.  They are the winds of change, making room for new things to grow into our lives.

New plants are beginning to push their way up through the soil, and new thoughts, people and opportunities are likewise trying to grow their way into our lives.  If we cling to old habits for comfort, we are not making room for new and better  opportunities to come into our realm.  Though an old shoe is  predictable and familiar, it is also not as comfortable as a new and more improved shoe can be.  Also the new shoe may allow us to walk faster down our life path.  As long as we keep such analogies in mind, all  the changes this time of year presents will happen much more smoothly.

A very suitable stone friend for helping in such times of change is Snowflake Obsidian.  This stone is the normal black of obsidian with white flecks in it, thus the name snowflake.  It is often called the stone of change, and helps us to emotionally and mentally adapt to changes.  In this, we see that the change is necessary and likely better for us though it may not seem so right away as we’re being dragged out of our comfort zone by the change that is presented.

Snowflake obsidian teaches us that in an old comfort zone we do not have room to grow.  Snowflakes and opportunities are  both fleeting, and must be tasted while they’re falling toward us, before they melt away.  The gentle grounding of this wonderful stone keeps us centered so that we may think clearly as each change comes with important choices.  If we’re too scattered and ungrounded, any choice can be unclear.  Snowflake obsidian, worn as  jewelry or carried in a pocket and held often, is a wonderful companion when riding the March winds of change.  May your emotional and physical spring cleaning bear much fruit of new opportunity.  As Always Happy Stoning!
