Chapter 12

Building a Relationship with Our Inner Selves

Much of the rest of this book will be about meditations to help us gain a more balanced stance towards the most common causes of stress in our lives. However, the foremost intention of meditation has always been to develop a relationship with our inner, or higher, selves. Carl Jung called it the Sacred Marriage, – the life-long attempt to gain full rapport between our Ego and our unconscious minds. One may see this as a spiritual journey, or as a psychological journey, -it matters little to the endeavor of finding our own pathway through life. Many who take this journey will be spurred on by past trauma. Even if you are not aware of any past incidents which may be at the root of your search, keep this in mind. Always proceed slowly and carefully. Find and use any help groups or trustworthy advisors available to you.

this voyage of discovery. You will find many resources that you never
expected within yourself. Life will open up many new opportunities as
you open up your own mind and see the possibilities. Relaxation and
meditation are the pathways to finding a new calmness and
self-confidence. As we deal with hidden fears, we will begin to
achieve things that we once thought impossible for us. I can testify
to this from my own experience. Remember, to explore the inner worlds
is to explore a world of magic and symbolism. The archetypes appear
to us in the form of ancient gods and goddesses, in signs and
symbols. It is our own individual reactions to these inner energies
that count. It is here that we find our own way forward. Relax, read
the poem and gaze at the artwork. Your journey has truly begun.

The Sacred Marriage

The Lord and Lady glide about the forest, as the softly sighing leaves are whispering in the silver light.

The dwellers of the woods are quiet and still, and dark eyes gaze upon the scene entranced,

No man, nor beast would dare disturb the ritual of this night.

Above, the Goddess lights her emissaries, as the moon and earth enjoin in Sacred Dance.

Tall and stately like a silver birch, the Lady flows like liquid moonlight through the trees,

Laughter, like the tinkling of a golden bell, caresses sensual lips and flutters off into the waiting night.

Great Pan himself, is so enamored of her beauty that he pauses in his play, to place a kiss upon her knee,

Then He resumes His Dance and placing pipe to lips, He fills the Still night air with merriment and pure delight.

to speed the coming of the Sun, blazing high, as sparks are flying to
the sky.

the Earth!

like new-grown saplings reaching to the light!

feet, caressing and cajoling Mother earth, can feel Her Spirit and
Her Power rise,

And Spring is surely hastened with the coming of Her Lover, at sunrise.

journey has but just begun, I cannot tell this tale in full.

my senses are too numb, perhaps my mind to dull.

every day I ask the Gods of fire that I may wake,

every night I look up to the Moon for guidance,

on the journeys, I may make.

was born in Dublin and now lives and works in Lincolnshire in a small
rural town. Patrick became fascinated by the strange abilities of the
human mind from watching his mother give psychic readings using
tea-leaves and playing cards. With a lifelong interest in metaphysics
and parapsychology, he has given tarot and spirit readings for over
40 years. He travels to many events with his wife Tina, exploring the
power of shamanic drumming to heal, and induce therapeutic trance
states. They also hold a regular drumming circle in the picturesque
Lincolnshire Wolds.
