Interview with Reanna of Woodland Wand Creation

August, 2019

Bright
Blessings!

Last month, I got to review a great wand by Lady Reanna Shellenbarger of Woodland Wand Creation, and this month, I lucked into an interview!

Here is the link to my review if you did not have a chance to read it yet!

Read on to learn more about this amazing artist and creatrix, and her sacred, beautiful wands!

On
their Facebook page, it says:

“Welcome
friends to my store called Woodland
Wand Creation
. A magical place of
semiprecious stones & enchanting wood from the magical forest.
All to make amazing Wands. All work is unique artwork. No two are the
same. I work within the respect to our Ecosystem. Many of my pieces
are created with natural and reclaimed supplies. Wood is collected
with respect and reverence. All wood is render by the tree naturally
after stormy weather. No tree is ever harmed or wood cut from trees.
My artwork & Wands are said to be very powerful. Because I work
and charge all pieces by the moon light for an extra punch of energy.

Bert
is the engine and Reanna is the artist. Together we are Woodland
Wand Creation
. All items are made by
Reanna she is such the artist. We hope you all enjoy them as much as
we do.”

Then,
I got to catch up with
Reanna, and she told me wonderful things!

Saoirse-
How and why did you get into making your beautiful wands? What or who
inspired you?

Reanna-
A friend of mine purchased a bag of random semiprecious stones and
had no idea of what to do with them. so I took some of the stones
home and fashioned a Wand, not knowing if it would even work. well,
needless to say, it did, and here I am today.

Saoirse-
How does this tie in with your personal spiritual path, and what
would you like to share about your path with us?

Reanna-
I studied Wicca some years ago. I reached High Priestess status.
today I’m solitary but very, very social. I found more freedom by
dedicating myself to more creative pursuits. As a Libra, I require
the freedom to go with what the wind calls to me and what strikes my
fancy.

Saoirse-
Tell me about your creative process. How do you get an idea that
inspires? What types of materials draw you? What colors? How do you
begin, and how long does it usually take from start to finish?

Reanna-
Each stone or branch tells me
their desire to become something more. I then clean them up a bit by
removing the bark, to show off the natural beauty of the wood. I work
with only naturally rendered woods, like after storms and such. I
never cut or hurt a tree. I still go for the random mix of stones to
this very day. I meditate while I divide them up into the kinds of
stones they are. I can then hear them speak to me about their desire.
Some stones want to be a Staff, Smudge fan or a Rattle. I am blessed
with a wide range of woods in my area. White Willow is my all time
favorite, but I do work with Wise Oak, Red Elm, Sweet Maple, and
Driftwood.

Saoirse-
Tell about
how you run your business and how and why you decided to sell as
opposed to just making your own? Talk about your business partners!

Reanna-
I work with my longtime
partner Bert. Bert is my online Wizard. the engine to my inspiration.
We are the perfect team. We have a small shop on Etsy. We also are on
social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. I will provide
links below.

Saoirse-
Tell about yourself aside from your path and wands.

Reanna-
I enjoy cooking and making up my own recipes. I like to sew
children’s blankets and quilts that I donate to the local church. I
really like to gardening, growing herbs, flowers and playing in my
Fairy garden. I dabble in painting. I like to recycle items to keep
them out of the landfills so most of my stuff is up-cycled. I also
work with many divination tools such as Tarot, Crystal balls, Zodiac-
natal charts, Tea leaves, and Pendulums. I write memes about magick
for FB as well as some really bad poetry. I teach the basic of Tarot
and Wicca in a FB group. well, I guess I’m just your all-around
crafty Witch.

Saoirse-
My editor noticed
your fair pricing. Many merchants charge a lot more for a wand than
you do. Why do you charge what you do as opposed to what many of your
competitors do?

Reanna-
Well, we did our homework on the prices before we set out. We
saw that so many are over priced for just the simplest items. We did
not want to rip off the Pagan community like this. We feel magick
knowledge should not be misused by over pricing. To us, it seemed so
unfair and it gives our movement such a bad name in a time when we
are rising out of the shadows. Our intention was to sell a good
product at a good price. Honest and true is the only way to a secure
future. In this simple and humble way, a Wand can be in many hands.

Review of The Closet Pagan Etsy Shop & Interview with Owner Anna Pierce

April, 2019

The
Closet Pagan

Bright
Blessings!

I
was tickled pink when I got this lovely bundle in the mail to review!

I am so happy to share what The Closet Pagan has available, and I am confident you will find something you’d love to have!

Owner, and craftsperson Anna Pierce is a gifted jewelry maker, and she knows her stuff about what stones have which magical attributes, and she makes spell kits as well.

She
shipped me, as pictured, two different necklaces. One with crystal
ball smoky quartz, and the other with the mysteriously beautiful
bloodstone. She also sent single amazonite and fancy jasper stones,
and had them all put together in a gorgeous black silky drawstring
bag complete with a lovely ankh charm.

On review of her etsy page, I found lots to love. From silver charm necklaces, to crystal grid boards, and protection kits, this gal is stocked up with things every Witch and Pagan is sure to love. Even better, the prices are quite reasonable!

I
was lucky enough to be able to have a short interview with Anna as
well!

The
Interview

Saoirse– Bright Blessings, Anna! What beautiful products you have! I got the smoky quartz crystal ball necklace, and bloodstone necklace, and the fancy jasper and amazonite crystals. Such beautiful, thoughtful offerings! Thank you! Tell me the meaning behind all the stones from your own interpretations, and the magical and or healing properties you ascribe to them.

Anna- The meaning behind the stones: Well, the smoky quartz, and bloodstone are some of my favorites. To me, they represent great emotional healing properties such as calming ones mind, and relieving stress. Of course, all of this I believe, is from the power of suggestion, but it’s something that can make you feel great while rocking a cute piece of jewelry.

Saoirse– Tell me how you got into making jewelry and spell kits? What made you decide to do an online shop? Do you have a brick and mortar shop customers may visit, or is it all online?

Anna- My shop is online on Etsy only. I’d love to one day have a brick and mortar shop, but unless I win the lotto, I don’t see it happening any time soon unfortunately. How I got into jewelry making and spell kits: Well, I really love the idea of unusual items and products to make you feel better. Spell kits/ornaments stuff I make I like to use as my own home decor and wanted to share my interests with anyone who would appreciate them. The jewelry making, I picked it up as a hobby then decided to just take a leap and go for it. ?

Saoirse– What is your personal spiritual and or magical path, and how does your merchandise support you in that?

Anna- I consider myself a Pagan Eclectic Witch. I am not a Wiccan, and do not follow any kind of “Witch’s code.” My merchandise supports in the fact that I have a bunch of different styles and try to keep it simple.

Saoirse– What power is there in personal adornment with magical materials like oils, and jewelry, in your opinion?

AnnaI believe it’s all the power of suggestion, and the energy you send out onto the Universe.

Saoirse– What are your personal favorite things to make, and what are your personal favorite materials to use, and why?

Anna My personal favorites to make are the ornaments and spell sets, because I can offer a variety of different items in one grouping.

Saoirse– Tell me about something extra special you have made, and how, and why it is meaningful to you?

AnnaSomething extra special? I suppose that’ll have to be the Winter Solstice ornaments I made, because it allowed me to fill the bulbs with beautiful flowers to decorate your home or holiday tree. When making them I send out good energy into the Universe.

Anna also had this to say:

I
have a passion for creating new things. I love filling my little
mid-century house with candles, crystals, salts, and the funky unique
things I find. And, I love crystal and gemstone jewelry. I started my
shop to sell some of the things I love most: crystals, salts, herbal
blends, Wiccan and Paga
n
decor, and items honoring positive emotional and spiritual bonds with
nature. Some of the things I sell will be unique, one-of-a-kind
items, handmade from upcycled materials. Other items, like salts or
herbal potpourri, will be handmade in small batches. I love making
simple, timeless jewelry designs with raw and polished gemstones,
gemstone beads, and various gemstone crystals. I hope people feel a
positive healing connection to the items in my shop. It is my wish to
make other people’s lives a bit better, a bit happier, a bit more
grounded to the earth and nature, with the items I create and the
customer service I offer.”

Anna is a real person, and is not just looking to earn money. She encourages people to reach out to her through her Instagram, and she loves people to tell her about themselves. She is very relatable, and tries to inspire whenever she can.

Happy shopping, and Blessed Be!

Witch & Popcorn

February, 2019

Bright
Blessings film lovers!

I’m
reviewing a new show instead of a movie this time.

This
show has made quite a stir on Netflix this week, and people are
either celebrating it, or upset by the hosts suggestions. There seems
to be no happy medium response. People either love this or hate it.

I
watched a few Episodes of Tidying Up with Marie Kondo.

Let
me begin by saying I freaking LOVE this!

Smart
business lady Marie Kondo hails from beautiful Japan, where she
single-handedly started an organizing business based on clean,
minimal living, only owning things you get a lot of use out of, and
teaching a lifestyle of keeping things neat, in their place, and
clean.

While
I’m not going to have 30 books or less, as she recommends, nor will
I fold every article of clothing I own into tidy origami-like
parcels, as a witch, I appreciate her attitude, and approach.

The
first thing Marie does when she walks into a house, after meeting the
homeowners, is ask permission to “get acquainted with” the house.
She then kneels, and looks to be meditating, and soaking in the
home’s vibes.

If
that isn’t magical practice, I don’t know what is.

The next thing she has the homeowners do is take stock of every item they own, and purge as much as possible. There is a lot of tears, a bit of tantruming at times, and a lot of resistance from some homeowners. They want an immaculately clean home, but they want it stocked full of junk, and things they squirreled away for years they forgot all about. In the end, the clients always say their whole lives are changed by the purge, reorganizing, and change to a lifestyle of cleanliness and simplification.

It’s
just throwing things out, and reorganizing, right?

Well,
it’s more than that.

Getting
rid of things that are not useful, and are eating up space that could
be better used otherwise frees up not only the space itself, but the
energy. Every item we use, touch, and keep retains energy and
memories. While some of us are consciously aware of all that, some
people are not, but they still are not immune to the effects.

Some
call clutter visual noise, but have you ever had a toxic roommate or
live in lover and once they and all their junk was gone, you felt
like the weight of the world had been lifted from your home and
heart? Things hold energy.

The
thing I saw in common of all the clients in the episodes I watched
was they grumbled their house was not big enough- and stated they
needed more storage space, but Marie knew better. She knew they had
too much stuff!

She
made them pile their clothes on top of the bed, and thin out as many
clothes as possible before they did anything else. I think she gave
them a week to do all of that. People had entirely forgotten about
all of the clothes they owned. They said they never even liked
certain articles of clothing, and seeing the mountain of clothes
horrified them. One client remarked she was ashamed of herself for
being so greedy about clothing when there are people who don’t have
hardly any clothes.

Marie,
in magical fashion, had people hold each belonging and only keep what
“sparked joy”. She expected them to feel the vibes off things and
keep only the things that had good vibes. Basic energy 101! She then
told them to thank the object for allowing them to use it before
discarding.

The
process took forever with some people, but she taught them energy and
appreciation for objects.

Magic!

Marie
might not identify as a witch, but she knows about moving energy and
all about psychology. The initial shock of the mountain of clothes
was all she needed to get people’s attention and wake them up.

I’m
not saying there was no pissing and moaning from some clients after
the realization. I’m saying it was the stab in the rear end they
all needed to see they had done this, and they needed to dig their
way out. One client aggravated me with her whining so much, I had to
watch that episode over the course of two days, but in the end she
did a great job and got with the program.

Our
homes are supposed to be our sanctuaries, not places that exhaust us.
When we junk up our homes, we are constantly swamped in the sea of
trash, and it soaks into our bodies, minds, and spirits.

Purging
helps us focus on what we want and need in our homes so we can
control the focus of energy and the feel of the home.

I
always wonder why so many people cannot understand this.

I
am reminded of my first marriage. My ex husband collected junk- or
just shoved everything in drawers and never bothered to take care of,
or clean anything. He owned empty cardboard boxes from things he no
longer owned, and even empty plastic bags that had been in the boxes
he no longer had from things he also no longer had. He owned expired
turtle wax and tried to fight to keep it. He had hundreds of empty
wire hangers from dry cleaners in the trunk of his car which he
refused to part with, and he cried when I threw them out. He owned
broken golf tees he stated had no sentimental value, and he even had
undeveloped photo film he said he had no plans to ever develop, but
wanted to keep- because it was HIS. He had a three bedroom, two bath
house with a full basement, and it was not large enough to house all
of his junk and collection of thousands of books, CD’s, Cassette
Tapes, eight track tapes, VCR tapes, and DVDs- a collection that was
steadily growing. He did not understand that libraries are good
places to nab media and books, and less is more. He owned books that
were molded, having been rotting in the damp basement for over a
decade, and had books he had never read, but continued to buy more.

His
was an extreme case, and his inability to change his compulsive
shopping and accumulating damaged our relationship. We were not
married long enough for me to find out what his psychiatric issues
were. I do not miss living with him. He found somebody who was okay
with his lifestyle, and I am thankful he moved me out of the mess.

Getting
out of that trash heap was a breath of fresh air for me. I can only
imagine how awful people who have done this to themselves felt before
Marie helped them.

On
the show, Marie takes people who don’t show psychiatric problems.
These just have a lot of unnecessary crap. They make excuses, and
Marie does not buy it. She goes in every week for about a month, and
teaches them how to clean out the whole house. By the time it is all
done, the homeowners have done all she says, and my OCD is appeased.

I
will say this show gives me appreciation for The Queer Eye. Somehow,
the Fab Five manage to guide the people they are making over to NOT
descend into self-pity, but they prod them to organization. I respect
Marie’s philosophy that they homeowners will do their own
organizing, and it serves to ensure they know how to keep it that
way. There is just so much whining and complaining from some of the
clients, you might want to slap them. They made the mess, they clean
the mess, and Marie makes sure they do.

I
am also appreciating the Hoarders shows, as the clients often are
very open about their psychiatric issues that lead them to let their
homes go to seed. The home is an outward manifestation of what is on
the inside. And these organizing shows take the outside, use it to
illustrate what is going wrong, and set the outside right first as a
way to start inner work.

As
magical practitioners, we know all too well that what we surround
ourselves with influences us. If we are surrounded by repressed
memories and buried pain, or even good memories, manifested by things
we chose to keep although it is useless- we are working bad juju on
ourselves.

Get
rid of it.

Now.

Marie
Kondo’s show might be viral right now, and she might be all the
rage currently, but her approach, her attitude, and her techniques
are old magical practice every witch can do without any spellwork.

Let’s
just refer to this as space clearing on the mundane level, and it’s
just as important as ritual banishing, and mundane house cleaning.

A
good watch.

Happy
Viewing.

Blessed
Be!

Naked
Nutrition

More
and more folks are embracing a plant-based lifestyle, many of whom
are pagans as being plant-based fits in with “do no harm”.
Plant based is best for our animal companions and it is best for us.
This new occasional column will review offerings within the
vegetarian/vegan lifestyle.

First up, is “Naked Nutrition“, who recently reached out to PaganPagesOrg. After a few back and forth emails, I was sent a couple of samples.

The
first, and largest, is NAKED CHOC PB. I received a 5 lb. tub. I’m
grateful that I make smoothies so often! This is really tasty vegan
protein powder. I tend to buy vanilla protein powders, so this was
quite a change for me. It was thick and creamy enough without my
adding anything to it, but, to change it up, I added a banana and a
tablespoon of peanut butter. Yummy!!

NAKED
CHOC PB is made from slow-roasted peanuts grown on US farms and
organic cacao. That’s it – two ingredients. It’s dairy free
(vegan), soy free and gluten free. There are no GMO’s, no salt, no
sugar and nothing artificial.

I
also received two vegan protein powder samplers, one of which I gave
to my daughter for another opinion. The sampler included: Contains
Naked Pea, Chocolate Less Naked Pea, Vanilla Less Naked Pea, and
Naked Rice in single serving pouches.

Naked
Pea is made exclusively from raw yellow peas grown in the USA and
Canada. It is vegan, gluten free, and soy free. Chocolate Pea is the
Naked Pea, but
with raw organic chocolate powder and organic coconut sugar. Naked
Pea is the same but with vanilla.
Naked Rice is made from organic sprouted whole grain brown rice.
Once again, it is gluten free, soy free and vegan.

To
those thinking this is a company that only makes vegan protein
powders, be aware that they have many kinds available that are not
plant-based; some for gaining weight, some made with whey and casein,
and some made for those looking to gain weight, add creatine, amino
acids, or collagen; they even have several made with goat milk, egg
whites and sweet potatoes. Two that I have found are pre-workout
supplements.

Their website has quite a few recipes for using the protein powders, some for smoothies and a few for protein bites and bars. There is also an abundance of articles on their blog for weight gain/loss, muscle building and fitness tips, among others. All of the reviews listed on their website are quite good.

Each
of the protein powders comes in a 5 pound tub at the cost of

$54.99.
You can also subscribe monthly and the price becomes a bit less.

So,
if you like smoothies and use a protein powder, I suggest you give
this one a try. I think you will like it.

Review of the Shop HokumWares

December, 2018

Review of HokumWares

This past Samhain I went on a day outing with my Family Coven to an annual Witches Market in Philly called “Witches Night Out.” We had an excellent time, however we did not get much. We found a lot of the prices to be exorbitant. Also, most of the items were not necessary for us. Jewelry made from bones (human & animal), regular jewelry out of our price range, patches, clothing, candles & some kits of sorts with funny names. However, there was one booth that really caught our attention and kept it.

It was a nice sized table, whose smell lifted you by the nose and floated you over. It was filled with colorful soaps, unusual lotions mixtures, bath bombs that look like potions, beautiful handcrafted crocheted altar cloths and more. We found ourselves in front of the lovely face of Anna Maria, the owner of the amazing shop HokumWares.

Anna Maria’s infectious smile and wonderful products immediately brightens your day as you are being tossed around like a sack in the jumble of crowd. Anna Maria is funny and cheery and just great to talk to. She takes the time to explain to you what is in her products, why she makes her own products, why she chooses her ingredients and doesn’t rush you along, even though there is a throng of people surrounding us.

Right away we were drawn to the lotions. There were three scents, each unique. I chose to purchase the scent Pikake Flower & Gardenia. I love the smell of Gardenia, but this smells more than just gardenia, well obviously it smells like Pikake, too. I had no idea what a Pikake Flower was until I looked it up. It is the flower used in Hawaii to make leis! It has a wonderful fragrance. Both pikake and gardenia compliment each other well.

I purchased an 8oz pump plastic bottle for only $10. I found that to be a very fair price for handcrafted lotion. The bottle is completely filled. Professional labeling. Ingredients written on label.

Now what I love about this lotion (besides the scent)…

Let me start with the bottle it comes in. The pump twists open and shut. LOVE this idea! I have not seen this before. This means I can carry it in my bag with me at all times and not have to buy something to put it in and spend more money. You just simply turn the top left and right and it locks. I amaze easily!!!

The lotion is not thin or runny. It is not watery, or oily. If you turn over the bottle you do not see it running or moving down the sides. It is a thick lotion without being a unblendable paste.  It blends right into your skin easily without leaving that excess lotion you have no clue what to do with because it is too thick or watery.

After you put it on your hands they feel totally moisturized, not greasy. You can pick up objects without dropping them. Without leaving a mess on them. Yet your hands feel like they are moister.

I am diabetic so I have VERY dry hands. My hands can be known to drink In lotion and then feel like I have not put any on. Sometimes I can put on lotion and 2 minutes later it’s like I didn’t put any on. With HokumWares lotion I use a normal amount, a squirt, rub it into my hands and they stay lotioned for over an hour. I stopped timing it after an hour. It got rid of my chapped skin on my hands for that long, too.

I’m touchy when it comes to lotions. I don’t like to feel greasy. This lotion was very comfortable to me. Next, I want to try it on my face. Usually lotions make me break out on my face. I don’t think this one will. I think it will get rid of the flaking I have been getting in my T Zone.  Update:  I have used it on my face and no pimples or break out!!!

I almost forgot to mention, I also have psoriasis and eczema. The lotion does not make them flare at all. I get psoriasis flares on my elbows that burn because they chafe now that it is colder outside. The lotion soothed those without causing the burn some lotions cause due to over scent or whatever is in them.

For purchasing the lotion I was given a free sample of HokumWares Cold Process Soap. The samples name was Herkimer Diamond Soap. You want to smell something refreshing and clean??? Get a wiff of this bar!! Lathers nicely. Cleans well. Leaves you smelling wonderful.  I love the impression of the logo in the bar.

As a free gift for going to the Witches Market, the first 50 to arrive received a Goody Bag with products from some of the vendors. HokumWares was one of the vendors who contributed to the Goody Bag by giving those a free Lip Balm. We are lip balm nuts, and found that we wished that it kept our lips moist a bit longer. If you are the type of person who doesn’t lick your lips or rub them together too much, you should be fine.

We had a chance to speak with Anna Maria about herself and her products.

Jennifer Wright (JW): Hello Anna Maria! Thank you so much for taking the time to answer some questions and letting us & our readers get to know you!

Is it true you try not to rely on store bought items?

Anna Maria (AM): I will use some store-bought items within reason, but I lean heavily towards products that are cruelty-free.  If I cannot find something that I enjoy, or something that I’ve enjoyed heavily, I try to replicate the positive points of the products while still making it my own recipe.

JW: You even make your own cat food?

AM: I do! Although they do also eat a high quality canned food, they enjoy all kinds of meat I can source.  They love chicken wings!

JW: Is this is why you started making your own line of soaps and lotions and so on?

AM: I have always been fascinated by soap makers for years.  My past lab director at an old job would pay me in soap for small side jobs I would do for her and they were lovely.  Soap is the perfect marriage of two things I am fond of: science and alchemy intermingled with art and design with a sprinkling of my own unorthodox offerings.

JW: How long has HokumWares been open?

AM: HokumWares has only been open to the public for about 1.5 years, although I have been making soap for about 5 years.  I wanted all my recipes to be exactly what I wanted out of them before releasing to the public.  Many, many loaves of soap have been made before they were ever for sale to hone technique and understand oil qualities and product safety.

JW: What all do you create?

AM: I have branched out from soap to offer other bath and beauty products including bath bombs, lotion bars, lip balm, sugar scrubs, whipped body butter, and more recently hand and body lotion and hair oils.

JW: You use all natural products?

AM: I try to keep my ingredients as “clean” as possible.  Since the term is not regulated, everyone’s interpretation of natural is unique.  So for me, that means using essential oils and natural colorants or none at all for products.  By that definition, some of my products are natural and some are not.  I do use Phthalate and Paraben free fragrance oils in the bulk of my products and some may consider those natural.  It’s all up for interpretation.

JW: How do you come up with your ideas?

AM: Some ideas are cultivated, meaning I need to put a little thought into product specifics.  For example, my hand and body lotion was a necessity for me to create, but I chose my 3 initial scents off of what my offerings “should” be: a healthy mix of floral, fruit, and spice.  Other ideas come to me organically and I basically have free range to do whatever I want while incorporating the things I love and feelings I want to impart onto a product.  A huge example of that would be my Felinas bars of soap: a marriage of soap and hand-cast cat bones I’ve collected.  A conscious joining of scientific alchemy and a somber yet beautiful memorial to a life that I will not let be remembered in tragedy.

JW: I bought your Pikake Flower and Gardenia Lotion. I fell in love with the unique smell and blend. I love Gardenia. You make two other kinds of lotions that are just as unique, what are those scents?

AM: They are Black Pepper & Oud and Grapefruit & Bamboo.  The black pepper fragrance is a spicy smoked scent that pleases my dark while the grapefruit is a very cleansing, uplifting scent.  I wanted a small yet wide-spanning range of scent for my first run that would appeal to myself as well as potential customers.  I will be carefully expanding this range as time goes on, but I feel that these are a great start to a pleasing product.

JW: I agree. I have smelled your other lotions at the market, and was totally surprised, especially by the black pepper fragrance. It was beautiful. It was hard to decide which to buy. I think I have more shopping to do!

Do you do a lot of testing? Do you ever find things that are just a no go?

AM: Everything that I make is meticulously tested and retested; HokumWares has been in the making for quite some time and only when I found I had a great product to share did I start offering it to the world.  I do it for safety reasons as well as just being a somewhat perfectionist at heart.  I do have products that I’m currently working on that are still in developmental stages; an example would be my tattoo balm.  It’s been in the making for about 8 months and although I have tested the prototype on myself and 1 other person’s fresh tattoos and have had wonderful results, the consistency is not where I want it to be.  Back to the formulation rework on that, as well as lining up tattoo appointments to test a new prototype!

JW: What is your favorite product that you sell? Is it your hair serum? Is that the secret to why your hair is so gorgeous???

AM: Thank you for the compliment! They all have their places in my heart, but I would have to say the hair oil has had me smitten for the past year.  A close second would be any of my cold-process soap; I am a sucker for the tried and true.

JW: Do you magickally charge the items you make?

AM: I try to plan productions of certain things on specific dates as well as going into it with a clear, open, happy heart.  I hope my customers can feel that love come through.

JW: I feel it!

Review of Frisky Fish Mini Ritual Box

November, 2018

Frisky Fish

This month we are featuring a wonderful Mini Ritual Subscription Box https://frisky-fish.cratejoy.com/subscribe/ from Frisky Fish. Each month they feature 3 or more vegan and eco-friendly products in their Mini Ritual Subscription Box to help assist you in creating a sacred space.

Every month their box features unique art inspired packaging that helps support local artists and designers, as well.

The theme for this sacred space creating Mini Ritual Subscription Box is Solstice/Renewal. The contents are as simply elegant as the casing that houses them. The colors are soothing, playing toward the peaceful/renewal vibe.

With your Mini Ritual Box comes a glass roller of an essential oil blend called ‘Fresh’. This is a mixture of Lemon & Lavender essential oils blended with a touch of coconut oil. I don’t know if it is the way this oil is blended with coconut oil or the way they do with their recipe, but this oil goes on the skin and mixes in so smoothly. The smell is absolutely divine and smells like a Fresh Soothing Garden.

Next, you will find a bottle of Himalayan Pink Salt. The bottle simply reads what they are and directions which state: Add to warm bath. Stir to dissolve. Pink Himalayan Salt is one of the purest salts available. It is mined from deep in the Himalayan Mountains. The salt crystallized more than 200 million years ago and remains protected from modern-day pollution and impurities. It is good for cleansing, healing, peace, and clearing so I can see why Frisky Fish suggests it for your Ritual Bath.

Also, included is a nice size stick of Palo Santo. When burned Palo Santo acts as a smudging agent to cleanse the area or person. It keeps energies grounded and clear. Its scent provides upliftment that raises your vibration in preparation for meditation. Palo Santo is traditionally used for relieving common colds, flu symptoms, stress, asthma, headaches, anxiety, depression, inflammation, emotional pain and more.

You get a delicious Tea Bag from Naturate Tea with a light flavor of berries and rosehips to warm up and enjoy while you sit back and relax.

Last, but not least, a simple, yet elegant, Citrine Choker Necklace to wear. Citrine works best when it is in contact with your skin. It is said that Citrine never needs to be cleansed because it can not be affected by negative energy. It dispels negative thoughts and feelings and brings a joyful atmosphere.

I am seeing a theme to this Mini Ritual Box. A Calming Self Soothing, Self Love, Cleansing Vibe. I love it. The Ritual to perform with this all inclusive tiny box is to cleanse, purify, and love yourself.

The prices for Frisky Fish’s Box’s vary, but start at $39.95 for the Ritual Kit + Oils. The oils alone are worth the price. I have not felt an oil blend like theirs. It’s worth the investment.

Review of PracticalCandleMagick’s Spell Kit

Teacup, Pillar and Spell Candles, Handmade in London

Money/Wealth Drawing Spell Kit

A beautiful, gold package lands on my welcome mat. I’m immediately cheered by its shiny exterior. I open the tantalizing parcel, and am met with the most amazing smell. I’m already feeling better; the sensuous pleasures of colour and aroma have combined to notch down my stress levels a touch. A good start.

The parcel has been carefully package with up-cycled and reusable plastic, something I approve of greatly. The products themselves are in a peppermint and white paper bag, reminiscent of old-fashioned sweetshops; tempting and nostalgic in equal parts.

I carefully undo the paper bag and am surprised by how much is packed into the small package. There’s a gorgeous, green star-shaped candle, a bag of woody herbs, a napkin with £50 notes printed on it and clear instructions for a money spell.

The instructions have some great details in, including the best phase of the moon to complete the spell, examining your true intent and looking at the language you use. It’s clearly well thought out, and useful as a general guide to money magic as well as instructions for this specific spell. There’s links to helpful support agencies for those struggling with debt or other issues that affect their relationship with money.

The spell itself is well written and constructed, using a combination of incantation, visualisation and sympathetic magic. I received my package in the first quarter of the waxing moon, so nearly the perfect time for spells of abundance and prosperity.

I’d definitely recommend these spell kits. Their crafted with a sense of responsibility and are easy to follow, with a good focus on importance of intent and use of language. I thoroughly enjoyed performing the spell. As a freelance writer, work and therefore money comes and goes. Since doing the spell I’ve had a steady stream of work, so I’m impressed so far!

The Magickal Earth

Nature’s Miracles”

This month we are diving into a box that is deceivingly small by The Magickal Earth. Their Premium Subscription Box is packed to the gills with items “curated to offer guidance through the months astrological phase. The box will always feature a monthly astrological overview, a brief monthly horoscope, a tarot card chosen for you by the universe, crystals and gems to match the months energy, along with a variation of surprises including items such as, candles, essential oils, soap and, smudge sticks.”

All of this is included in the Premium Subscription Box for only $49.99 a month. This is just one of the Subscription Boxes that The Magickal Earth has to offer. They range in price from a mere $14.99 to $49.99 and cover a variety of wants and needs, from Crystal Boxes to Bath Boxes.

Now, let’s get into the box!

The smell emanating from the box is delicious and enticing. It makes me want to tear it open in a rush, but I must be methodical! So I open it carefully and peek inside.

First things first…what do we pull out???

Astrology Reading

When you are ordering your box you are asked to give your birth date. This is because The Magickal Earth includes a personal monthly astrology reading with this subscription box. I’m a Libra as you can see. You also get a pamphlet with planetary influences & energies for the month of the sign of the box.

One Card Pull

A one card Tarot pull is done for you. My card chosen was Temperance. They send you the card that is pulled for you along with another sheet that explains the Tarot card. It is up to you to read how this card plays in your life.

Abalone Smudge Shell

I am in love with this Abalone Shell. It’s large and very iridescent inside, delicate seeming, but sturdy, and gorgeous. The picture only sort of catches a bit of rainbow on the inside.

The iridescence is carried over the outside over a silver finish. There are a few “portholes” along the side that just add to the beauty. On the “mound side” there is a slight rusty patina on some of the holes giving it a real sea feeling.

BloodStone

Now this is an awesome piece of Blood stone that The Magickal Earth sends you. It is a big, smooth, tumbled piece. It is the size of the palm of your hand. It feels delicate, you don’t want to drop it. The color play in the stone is mesmerizing. A small card with some facts about Bloodstone accompanies the stone.

Quartz & Green Aventurine Stones

Two pieces of Quartz. They are both points. One is unique as it has a two points connected, one off shoot from the side. The larger one is a decent size, and the tinier one is on a small-scale but the uniqueness of it makes up for that.

The Green Aventurine is marbled with two shades of a light and dark green. It is smooth, tumbled, and medium-sized. A beautiful specimen.

Citrine

This is my favorite piece of Citrine that I have ever seen. I am amazed at the generous size. It is simply gorgeous! This picture does not do it justice. I could not get one that did. A huge piece of rough Citrine. A cloudy white base that rises to a deep yellow top that is flecked with almost rust colored specs. The vibrations coming from this stone are amazing.

Lip Care

Lip care by Night Bloom Apothecary is included in the Subscription Box. It feels very moisturizing on the lips. The scent is natural. It leaves a fresh feeling behind. When you rub your lips together it blends in nicely. It’s not overly oily feeling on your mouth or gooky.

Bar of Soap

Minty Magic is the name of the bar. The sticker on the back of the packaging tells you all the ingredients. It has a true mint scent, not a sweet mint, but a fresh mint scent. It lathers nicely and leaves behind a clean feeling, not dry.

Crystal Infused Energy Cleansing Mist

This blend is by NightBloom Apothecary. You can see the herbs & stones in this mixture. More so than I have seen in other’s that I have reviewed. You shake it and hear the many crystals chime against each other. When reading the ingredients you see they are pure de-stressers; lavender, clary sage, etc… The scent is amazing and it leaves you feeling soothed.

Stand and Smudge Stick to Complete Smudge Set

Now I am on the bottom of the box and what do I find? The Magickal Earth truly meant for this to be a Smudge Set. They have included a Stand. I thought the gorgeous Abalone Shell was just a stand alone. This is a great surprise. It’s a very nice wooden stand accompanied by a large smudge stick. This is a most wonderful Smudge Set.

My Overall Opinion…

I found The Magickal Earth to have a very impressive box. I really enjoyed their theme of cleansing in the box and think they kept it on target with great products made of wonderful quality. The portions in their Subscription Box were very generous. I have found my new citrine for working with. The Smudge Kit is a great gift for those new to smudging as well as those who have been smudging for years. The Energy Cleansing Mist impressed me the most with it’s quality. I also, really appreciated their personal attention with the astrology reading & one card drawing.  It really personalizes your box, you know no one else is getting a box like yours.  They spent time thinking about just you for the moment.  This box is most definitely Worth the Witch!

We got to speak with the woman behind The Magickal Earth boxes, Janet Barto, and ask her the usual from Worth the Witch. Here is what Janet had to say…

PaganPagesOrg (PPO): What brought the idea of your box to you?

Janet Barto(JB): When we started the Magickal Earth we started not with the subscription box in mind. I wanted to do what I loved most and that was crystals and rocks. The subscription box idea just came. We looked at the different boxes being offered and wanted to be unique. Thus, we came up with combining Astrology, Tarot and Crystals together.

PPO: How did you begin them?

JB: I won’t lie, it was a huge process. So much research went into every aspect. From Designing the box to how the contents would be included. I must say it is very hard work to start a subscription box. Especially ours and other like ours. So much attention to every detail. When you start you want every single piece to be absolutely perfect.

PPO: How do you choose what you include inside of them?

JB: First, we look at the Astrological calendar, then we look at the season, and from there I let my intuition take it home. Every item is hand chosen. Every item has a meaning of some kind to make it all part of the whole.

PPO: Is yours a recurring monthly box?

JB: Yes, we offer our box in many forms. We have a recurring box on Cratejoy and on our website. We then also off 3 or 6 month subscriptions at a discounted rate. Costing ranges from $14.99 delivered to $49.99 delivered.

PPO: Are you, yourself pagan?

JB: I am a second degree priestess within Chalice Hart in Washington. I am also a medium and I have trained in Shaman work.

PPO: Tell us about your interests.

JB: I have 2 business I now run full-time. But when I get to play we go on Jeep Runs. We do a lot of off roading in the mountains. I also love Football and Baseball.

PPO: Did you feel the pagan world was missing something to make you create your Box?

JB: This is a good question. I believe the answer is that I wanted ordinary people who had interests in Astrology and in Tarot to be able to order a box that was not just about witchcraft or spells. Kind of a middle ground. I wanted to really try to express that we are all part of the universe no matter what religion or craft you follow.

PPO: Do you have a site and sell other products?

JB: Our website is still a work in progress. As we are doing the boxes we are meeting people with many wonderful handmade items. Magickal Earth is about anything that comes from the Earth.

Our goal at The Magickal Earth is about personal attention. When you order from us we think hard about exactly the right stone or item to pick out for you. We understand how difficult it is for people to order crystals online. It is hard to not be able to see or feel. So when we are choosing for you, we are thinking hard about you and letting the universe help us chose the right one.

The Magickal Earth is growing everyday. And we believe that those who order from us become part of our family. It is all about our connection to them through the universe.

I think they really understood and connected with me. From my readings…to the crystals that really rang a note with me…this was an incredible box. Thank you Janet Barto for taking the time to chat with us. You really have an incredible box on your hands.

Wood Crystal Grid Review & Interview with Kelly Matthews from Zen and Meow

October, 2018

Wood Crystal Grid Review & Interview with Kelly Matthews from Zen and Meow

Kelly Matthews from Zen and Meow was so kind to send me one of her lovely wood grids made of birch in a pentacle design. It was the twelve inch size and I really enjoy the larger size grids. Lots of room to fit crystals! In her etsy shop there are tons of options for designs and all come in four sizes, 3 in, 6 in, 9 in, and 12 in. ranging in price from $7 to $33. Its great that you can personalize both the design and the size to your liking. The wood is simply top notch quality and the engraving of the design looks stunning.

I actually purchased a grid from Zen and Meow about a year ago. The custom wood engraved astrology chart. You send her your natal chart information and she engraves your chart onto wood. There is also an option to include a report of your natal chart which I also ordered. The price ranges from $22 to $52 depending on size and if you also want a report. I was thrilled with my purchase and very highly recommend it. I keep mine propped up on my altar, but you could grid with it or even hang it on the wall if you’d like. Such a neat idea to personalize your natal chart on a grid!

I highly recommend Zen and Meow wood grids. She also sells small tumbles for gridding available in her shop at a good price. If you are looking for top quality wooden grids check out Zen and Meow!

Kelly was so kind to answer some questions I had. Here are her responses.

Q: How did you get started making and using grids?

Kelly: I opened a metaphysical shop in Gettysburg about 4 yrs ago which really piqued my interest. I look at crystal gridding as another form of magic. Using nature, ritual and intention to manifest what we want.

Q: What are the different styles and materials you make your grids?

Kelly: I have quite a few grids that focus on sacred geometry, I have a line of animal totem grids, chakra related grids, as well as hand drawn mandala grids. I make all of my grids out of Birchwood.

Q: What is your personal favorite grid you offer and why?

Kelly: I really dont have 1 favorite, but my most popular grids tend to be the honey bee, dragonfly, flower of life, chakra grid and most of the sacred geometry grids. I find people are really drawn to sacred geometry, it tends to go hand in hand with gridding.

Q: What do you use gridding for?

Kelly: Mostly as a way to manifest something specific into my life, similar to how I would use an altar. I look at it as magic.

Q: What are some of your favorite crystals to grid with?

Kelly: Once again i really don’t have a favorite. It really depends on what I’m trying to draw into my life. I do use clear quartz on most of them with other stones.

Q: Why is gridding an effective tool to add to one’s daily practice?

Kelly: I believe its as effective as you make it. If you just toss some stones on a grid it’s not going to be as effective as you taking the time to setting an intention, pick out stones that really resonate with your intention, making offerings etc. I practice all sorts of magic so gridding is just one avenue and not always a daily practice for me. I recommend combining it with other forms of magic in order to be as effective as possible.

Q: How long have you worked with grids?

Kelly: For about 4 yrs.

Q: What’s one thing you want to share that I haven’t asked?

Kelly: I make custom wood engraved astrology charts which make great gifts for friends, newborns, and yourself. You can even have one created for a couples wedding date. I make wood cut sacred geometry jewelry out of alder and walnut woods. They are super lightweight and I use sterling silver for all the findings and hooks. I do take custom requests for grids so if there is ever a design you want but I don’t carry just ask.

LED Crystal Grid Review & Interview with Jessica Miller from Cracked Crystal Co.

October, 2018

LED Crystal Grid Review & Interview with Jessica Miller from Cracked Crystal Co.

Jessica Miller from the Cracked Crystal Co. was so sweet as to send me one of her LED light up grids to try out. It measures 11in X 9.5 in X 1 in. It came with 2 different design plates (made of glass). You can interchange them in the wooden holder. It’s so neat to have 2 options! You place the glass grid you are working with into the wooden slots to hold it in place. Then you attach the plugs that come with it and connect to an electric source. It’s easy to put together. Then you set up your grid. When you are ready to add color to your gridding experience, it comes with a remote to control which colors you want to use.

Only thing I would recommend is including instructions for the remote (sometimes I need the extra help lol). After I turned it on it was a gorgeous blue. I wasn’t expecting it to be so bright! It’s visually stunning! Then I changed the colors many times and each color looked cooler than the last! So much fun and really brings a new layer to the gridding process! I love being able to change colors to suit my intentions. I took pictures of the different colors but unfortunately the pics do not do this grid justice.

It doesn’t translate onto the picture. But trust me it is a feast for the eyes! I really am enjoying this grid and look forward to trying different color combinations with different stones. A whole new world of possibilities! This LED light up grid is $85 and comes with 2 glass grids. You can choose which 2 patterns you want.  In the etsy shop there are also wood and lucite grid options as well. I highly recommend this light up grid. It truly is magical!

I had the opportunity to ask Jessica some questions about gridding and here are her responses.

Q: How did you get started using and making grids?

Jessica: I’ve loved crystals for a long time and grown a lot in my spiritual journey throughout the years. Grids helped me better understand my crystals and energy work so of course I wanted to help spread that knowledge.

Q: What are the different styles and materials you make your grids?

Jessica: Currently we offer grids in wood, lucite and glass. We feature several sacred geometry grids and a few homemade patterns.

Q: What is your personal favorite grid you offer and why?

Jessica: I am personally partial to our cut out flower of life grid. It’s delicate and gorgeous to look at. I also so appreciate how different our illuminating grid is. There is something powerful about that color under your crystals!

Q: What do you use gridding for?

Jessica: Stress relief mostly. I find setting up the grids very relaxing. Taking the time to listen to your stones and see how they work together is so rewarding.

Q: What are some of your favorite crystals to grid with?

Jessica: Ok so my absolute favorite combo is amethyst and celestite. Such sweet and loving energy. Like a hug from the universe.

Q: Why is gridding an effective tool to add to one’s daily practice?

Jessica: It’s a time to set aside for yourself and your crystals. Like meditation its important to take that time daily (or as often as you can).

Q: How long have you worked with grids?

Jessica: I began working with grids in 2017, so not very long! Honestly, I used to think they were foolish. What would I get out of gridding that I didn’t get from my stones on their own? Boy am I glad I tried it!

Q: What’s one thing you want to share that I haven’t asked?

Jessica: This practice is there for self-love and improvement. Remember, you are wonderful and your journey is beautiful. May you be well, happy and peaceful.
