Brightest
Blessings

This
issue contains a wealth of knowledge. You want to take your time
reading this issue, snuggle next to the fire with a cup of tea or hot
cocoa. You can tell that each article or story they chose was thought
out. Some of the articles make you ponder your thoughts on subjects,
while others just entertain you, they are so adorable.

You
can learn a lot of lore, history and gain new insight on many topics.
Some of the articles are shortened for the book, but they include
links for further reading on those articles. The authors applied a
lot of time and research to create each of their contributions, it
inspired me to do further research on the various topics on my own.

The articles I found most interesting are…

Why
&
How Animal Omens Work
– This article gives ideas and signs on how animals work with spirit
and deities, share their knowledge and share insight when we are in
deep thought or need help during moments of our life.

The
Ja
de Emperor Race’s, How
the
Zodiac Signs Came to Be
– This story I found entertaining and adorable. I didn’t know
this story even existed. I think it is the perfect way to explain
them. The book gave information on this year’s Chinese zodiac sign
and a table listing this year’s preview and coming future date’s
of animal signs in following years.

NikolaTesla – Was a very interesting read, very well
thought out using his birth chart for astrology. This information I
found uniquely designed to add intrigue to the story.

Merry
Meeting of Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki – I loved this
article. Having her spend author interview time sharing her
experiences and her knowledge about the society of the inner light.
The article felt perfect just like you were in room with her. Even
though they shorten her interview for the book, they provide a link
to an audio file to further listen.

Corvids –
This article was about using knowledge of certain beautiful birds,
lore, and how to divine knowledge from birds of choice and messages
associated with certain deities.

There are many more
articles within this issue I found so inspiring I wish I could list
them all! This book contains information on zodiac influences for
coming spring 2019-2020, weather, mooncycles, explanations for
gardening by Moonphases, astrological key information, eclipses,
retrogrades for this spring 2019-2020, book reviews, and question
about the craft you can send in to be answered From a Witches
Mailbox!

In ending
this book is worth having in your collection of almanacs,
you can even order past issues to add to your collection. I was
honored to read this book.

Bringing Up the Next Generation of Witches

November, 2018

October is quickly coming to an end, and I have never been more thankful. October brought sickness and trials. It was a difficult month to say the least.

But with October coming to a close, Samhain is fast approaching.

Samhain (or Halloween as Little Bear calls it) has always been one of my favorite holidays. Even when it was banned from my childhood home life.

The veil is thinning, the days grow darker, and the nights become almost black.

Living in the Midwest means the weather is unpredictable at the end of October. It could be sunny and hot, or rainy and wet. As a child, “Halloween” meant snow. I can remember more snowy Halloweens than not.

Little Bear and I will make the best of it regardless of the weather. He has his costume picked out. He is going as a zombie SWAT guy. He’s talked me into being a zombie also. He’s a bit obsessed with The Walking Dead right now.

This year, I let Little Bear go wild and decorate the whole house. We put up window clings, black garland, laid out fake spiders, decorated foam pumpkins, and hung up door covers.

Yesterday, we visited the local pumpkin field/corn maze. They have so many activities and it’s a must every year. They have goats, chickens, rabbits, long horn cattle, corn boxes, corn mazes, pumpkin guns, tug a war ropes, inflatables, wooden trains, etc. It is a full day.

Tonight, is pumpkin carving time. I’m sure that my excitement is at a way higher level than Little Bear’s because of the pumpkin seeds. I have dug out some recipes from Pinterest and plan on trying at least three. I have to do normal salt pumpkin seeds. But I’m going to try a sweet version with cinnamon and brown sugar. The other one I haven’t decided on because there is so many variations that can be done. However, I’m leaning towards a savory that uses sea salt and white vinegar. Not sure how it’ll turn out, but we shall see!

One of my favorite traditions for Samhain is the dinner. Eating dinner at the table is something that rarely happens in our home because of scheduling. But when Samhain rolls around, I take the day off. I plan a meal as if it were Thanksgiving and I set the table. I always set a spot for my sister who we lost back in 2015. It helps to bring her close. Little Bear gets excited and will start talking to her spot as if she never left.

Little Bear started asking questions again about “God” last week. This is a conversation that we have quite frequently as he has a hard time understanding something that he cannot see. So, I go into the explanation again. We have talked about the many different religions of the world. Although I am raising him in a Pagan home, I understand that the Pagan path may not be for him.

I found a wonderful series that touches on the spiritual side without focusing on one certain religion. It’s the The Giggles and Joy series. A three-part series that focuses on positive poems. It’s a neat series that I recommend. You can check out my review on them in this same issue!

Coming Out of The Psychic Closet

October, 2018

Are You Afraid to Share Your Experiences with Others?

It is certainly encouraging that modern society is beginning to allow people to come out of their unique closets of personal truth and be accepted for who they are.

Those people are finding the courage to reveal the true nature of their individual life choices and experiences. But what if you don’t understand the nature of your life experiences and don’t remember making choices to be psychic? How do you share such a thing with your friends and family? Will they reject you, laugh at you, or call you ‘crazy’ and force you back to the safety of your secret closet? And if so, how long might you remain alone there until you try again?

We asked medium and mentor, Sheri Engler, author of The Pearls of Wisdom: A Fairytale Guide to Life’s Magic Secrets For All Ages for advice to help one cope with burgeoning psychic skills, while finding balance between personal and social realities. She says, “It is important to first identify what your fears actually are. Then simply replace them with something more comfortable.”

Here are a few typical questions and fears with some possible solutions to help get you started:

Does using the word “psychic” conjure foolish images of fortune tellers with crystal balls; spiritualists raising tables in shadowy séances; greedy scammers on psychic hotlines; or even new age, “airy-fairy” wannabe’s? —If so, consider using other words such as “intuition” or “high sensitivity to energies”. Try enlisting support from others by confiding that you are experiencing “metaphysical events” that you do not yet fully understand yourself. Ignite their interest and compassion, as opposed to judgment, by researching together the many resources online. Treat it as light and fun, and it will likely be less fear-provoking for all concerned. It is important to avoid trying to prove anything to anyone, as that quickly develops into a negative debate instead of the positive support you are seeking.

If you were to accept that you do indeed have “psychic ability”, could it suddenly take you over or invite dark energies? —The short answer is “No”. The longer answer is that having a fear of anything is the surest way to attract that exact thing to you. So don’t. Know that you have complete control over your own mind and your own personal space. You have a sovereign right to declare your space to be free of all negativity. It is as simple as that. Consider this… by the act of driving your car down the road, are you risking that your vehicle may suddenly take over your ability to control it?—Or could driving be construed as an invitation for someone to crash into you?… Of course not. You simply drive safely and go about your business, right?

What about the reaction your religious acquaintances or your partner might have once you reveal your “psychic self”? Might they reject you? —It needs to be said here that not all relationships are supportive to one’s own growth. Inner and outer change and expansion are opportunities to houseclean not only your own belief systems but those of others as well. True love will accept you as you are. This may be a providential litmus test for your highest good. If you stick to the rule of “keep what serves and leave what hurts,” you will rarely if ever go wrong.

Ms. Engler advises those who are having unexplainable experiences to “Be calm and go with the flow. Don’t be afraid to discover who you are, but use discernment when choosing with whom you wish to share your exciting journey. Frequently, you’ll find that they are grateful to you for coming out of your psychic closet, because it offers them courage to come out of their own! This increase in energetic awareness is happening on a massive scale. Statistically speaking, it is more unusual to not have had some sort of psychic experiences than it is to have them. Survey your friends and see for yourself.

The truth is we are all born into this world as psychic beings. This heightened sensory ability is greatly revered in indigenous cultures. Modern society, however, begins at childhood to systematically shame away this basic component of our natural birthright to the extent that we have forgotten that the “supernatural” is natural and the “paranormal” is normal.

Ultimately, there is nothing wrong with you—in fact, there is something very right with you. You are just as you were born to be, so be who you are.

Learning Lenormand

August, 2018

Notes from My Lenormand Journal

Thirty years ago, when I received my first set of Tarot cards, I read the cards nearly every day. I didn’t have a separate journal for my Tarot readings in those days – I just put the readings into my regular day-to-day diary. My life was very melodramatic in those days and the various readings reflected the histrionics of my daily life. Mostly I used the Celtic Cross spread but I would try out any spread that I discovered in my study of the Tarot. I was sure that I would eventually find the answer.

Well, here we are all these years later and I am still looking for the answer – or maybe it would be more correct to say that I am looking for answers in general. Naturally some of the questions have changed radically in the past thirty years. But some questions – really, the most important and vital ones – have not changed at all. They have only become more critical and far-reaching.

In the mid-1990’s, a very dear friend gave me a beautiful bound journal with a marbled cover of a glorious royal blue. That was the start of the separation of my Tarot journal and my day-to-day journal. There are pros and cons to this. I like being able to see the divinatory reading in regards to what happened that very day – having the two posts side by side can be very instructive. But having all those Tarot readings – or any kind of reading – broke up the diary’s natural prosaic flow. I have maintained two journals to this day.

These days, I do a three-card Tarot reading and then a five-card Lenormand reading. While I am focusing on the Lenormand in this essay, I must say that I am constantly amazed at how the two systems reinforce the same message. Sometimes I pull a Rune from my bag and nine times out of ten, whatever Rune I pull has the same divinatory message! Somedays I go through all my various means of divination to see if I am getting the same vibes from all the sources! And sometimes they all add up to the same one message. BUT – sometimes it’s just a big fucking jumble of nothing. It’s really tempting to say, the hell with all of this, and not write it down in the journal. I mean – that all takes time and time is not something I have a whole lot of nowadays. The thing is – just because you can’t see the message today doesn’t mean you won’t see the message tomorrow or next week or next year. Or even five or ten years from now. It can be argued that being able to “see” a divination five years after the reading is dubious at best but on the other hand, it’s all a learning experience, isn’t it? And sometimes the cards are talking about events far in the future. It’s human nature to see everything in the here and now.

The past several weeks, I have been pulling these cards over and over again:

Of course, these five cards were pulled with other cards. These cards are just showing up more often in the daily 5-card spread than the rest of the cards in the pack. And given that in the Lenormand, card relationship – the combination of cards to create a single meaning – is more important that a card landing on a certain point, just looking at these cards in and of themselves really doesn’t say very much. For instance, the 5 Tree 7 of Hearts card has come up fifteen times in the last twenty-two days, which is a pretty good percentage. But that doesn’t say anymore than I have been concerned with family and health issues, which are paramount right now. It’s the combination of the tree card with the surrounding cards that enhance and define its meaning. On July 5, the 5 Tree 7 of Hearts card was winged by 8 Coffin 9 of Diamonds and 36 Cross 6 of Clubs. Given the state of my father’s health on that day, this was a totally apt reading – his bad health and the feeling that no matter what happened, it was going to be difficult for all of us in the family.

26 Book 10 of Diamonds has been paired with 21 Mountain 8 of Clubs seven times in the last two weeks. I think this is pointing to the various problems I’m having with my writing – not a writer’s block per se – although that would be the obvious idea. But in my case, it’s not so much that I have writer’s block but I am so horrendously busy that I don’t have the time to write – the mountain is keeping me from my book. Again – the tree is another modifier – it’s family issues that are pressing on me. My father’s ill health – my son, who recently moved back home and now I have triple the housework that I used to have – and sibling drama that doesn’t really concern me but is nonetheless part of my life.

Isn’t 32 Moon 8 of Hearts a beautiful card? Caitlín Matthews says that this card is a “false friend” from the “Tarot World”. She writes,

“In Tarot, the Moon means illusions, mutability, or anxiety – words that are better expressed in Lenormand by Clouds. Stork, and Birds,

respectively. Lenormand Moon is about work, honor, recognition, and creativity. This is because Moon governs the sublunary regions

and is symbiotic with the life of our planet. Everything that the Moon shines upon is under its influence. Beware of assigning disordered

emotions to the Moon, which has more to do with the emotional satisfaction arising from the act of our hands.” (Matthews, 83-84)

But again, in context of my personal life right now, the Moon card in its Lenormand aspect is perfectly apt. I am concerned with issues of work – writing, specifically – but also my collage work – and of course the additional housework with my son now living here!

Naturally, of course, 25 Ring Ace of Clubs represents my commitment to all of the above – my son, my family, my work and my divinatory studies. This card has been paired with each of these cards more than once in every way imaginable.

Do keep a Divinatory Journal? What methods do you use the most? Do you use the Lenormand Oracle? What cards show up the most often? What relationship do you have with those cards?

Until next month, Brightest Blessings!

Interview with the Author of We Are Magical Beings, Paola Collazos

July, 2018

Interview with Paola Collazos

Paola Collazos is a Reiki master, energy medicine practitioner and a licensed massage therapist. She is also the author of “We Are Magical Beings”. I had the chance to not only review the book, but also talk with Paola recently.

Deanna-In your book, We Are Magical Beings, you share the hardships that came with your childhood. You seem to have blossomed from that childhood once you found energy work. What would you say to your younger self?

Paola-To my younger self I would say I promise to nurture you and keep life light- hearted and fun.

D-Do you believe you would be where you are now, if you had experienced a different childhood?

P-I would for sure be somewhere else had my childhood been different. Our early experiences shape our personalities and decisions profoundly. But I wouldn’t trade my childhood, it was filled with lessons and I love myself the way I am today.

D-In today’s world, we are seeing a lot of high profile celebrities who have depression that are committing suicide.

What would you recommend to someone that is dealing with depression?

P-The thing about depression is that you have to catch yourself before you fall, and for that to happen one has to choose to be aware of the triggers way before you catch yourself falling.

BUT before wrapping your mind around that last statement, one must accept, and absolutely know within themselves that they are not alone, 44,965 Americans die by Suicide each year. The numbers show it, you are not alone. Even, I, with all the tools, experience lows sometimes.

Eliminate self-judgment and get to know your triggers, avoid them at all costs by keeping busy, work hard, volunteer, exercise, take walks, see friends, perhaps get a pet and breathe. I believe that breath is the closest thing to unconditional love. Oxygen is always there for you. Love yourself by taking deep breaths. Allowing the exhale to be longer than the inhale calms the nervous system by activating the vagus nerve which sends a signal to the brain telling it to hike up the parasympathetic nervous system and turn down the sympathetic nervous system. The parasympathetic NS controls our rest and digest. It lowers our blood pressure and heart (this is an amazing natural effect of the human body. )

If you need to take medication then do so without judgments but do the self-work. Watch your self-talk.

Eliminate self-judgment and get to know your triggers, avoid them at all costs by keeping busy, work hard, volunteer, exercise, take walks, see friends, perhaps get a pet and breathe. Repeat, every day, and in every moment, that you can remember.

D-During your first Reiki session, you describe an emotional session that seemed to be a turning point for you. Do you feel that you would have reacted the same if the woman had not started crying?

P-I do. I feel that if the woman had not started to cry I may have been more open to energy the first time around. I have learned that with energy work people tend to be skeptical or perceive it as mumbo-jumbo therefore it is vital for the practitioner to be clear, professional and as informative as possible.

D-This book is packed with information on tuning into the energy that we are. For someone who might get overwhelmed easily, where would you recommend getting started?

P-They should find a comfortable quiet space, lay down, close their eyes and notice their breath, then they should notice their heart beating. Tune in to the simple things in life. Revel in the mastery of the human anatomy.

D-During this journey you went through a natural detoxing where your body’s chemistry started changing. You had a difficult time finding a deodorant that worked and you stopped enjoying the taste of meat. In your experience, is this natural detoxing a normal part of the journey for everyone when doing energy work?

P-This varies by person. It is different for everyone. One can even experience this natural detoxing by merely starting a yoga practice. So yes, it is a normal part of the journey.

D-After getting your Level One Reiki Certification, you waited a year before getting your Level Two. Would you recommend this same wait time for someone who is interested in obtaining Reiki Certifications?

P-Yes, I believe that one should take the time after level one to heal themselves before they start trying to help others however some people get both attunements and even the third all in one weekend. I’ve also heard of Masters not passing on the second attunement until years after the first.

For me, it depends on the student but I would encourage some time to explore their own chakras after the first level. There is a lot to explore within oneself and things start to shift. So, you want to be respectful and allow yourself the time to process.

D-Also, after waiting a year, were you able to obtain the Level Two Reiki Certification with the same Reiki Master that certified you as a Level One Reiki?

P-The First Reiki Master did my second level. The level three was done by someone else years later.

D-For someone who is serious about learning all there is to know about energy work, would it be more beneficial to study one area of energy work (Reiki) before moving on to something else? Or can different areas of energy work be studied and used at the same time?

P-Yes, they can be studied at the same time but it also depends on the person and their learning style. It also depends on what they are planning to do with the information. Are they curious for their own healing or if they would like to teach/work on others?

The energy systems are the same all across the board what changes are the ways in which the individual chooses to tap into the energies to keep them settled. One can get started with learning about chakras without having to get Reiki attunements however it does not hurt. It will certainly give you a boost.

When I got my first attunement the master provided me with a lot of information that I wouldn’t have known by merely researching chakras. Like that KAVA tea has spirit unifying properties and that it would help me with lucid dreaming. Once you get started with energy work things will unfold and one thing will lead to the other.

The Meridians or (energy channels) and five element theories are a little more complicated to understand and to apply and I only delved into that in massage therapy school however I do not think it is impossible to grasp. I tried my best to simplify these concepts in my book because I do believe it is necessary to understand. Think of the chakras as the Macro and the Meridians as the micro. Chakras governs the muscles, organs, veins, and ligaments within the chakra’s vicinity. They are super busy hubs of energy that receive and give out information. They also contain information about your life’s journey while the meridians are energy pathways that pertain to one specific organ.

And yes they can be used at the same time.

D-‘We Are Magical Beings’ contains many different areas of energy work. Out of Reiki, Meridians, Chakras, Auras, Yin and Yang, Elements, Centering, Inner Child and Visualizations; do you have a favorite energy work?

P-Picking one is hard because they are so intertwined. I do love visualizations and I think that visualizing and or tapping into the imagination is crucial for all of this work. So, visualizations are my favorite.

D-One of the quotes from the book is “There is perfection in imperfection!” This is very powerful. In today’s world it seems that we are constantly chasing perfection. This quote feels as if it is giving us permission to be who we are without worrying about perfection. Did you find it freeing once you rid the notion of being perfect?

P-Yes, allow yourself to be imperfect. Try your best but be clear about your process. Be mindful that you are not using this idea of perfection to procrastinate and not proceed with what you want. Remember the mind would much rather be safe in its routines so it will always convince you that you are not there yet.

It was freeing for me because I allow myself to have fun and try new things. I’ve heard so many people say they won’t try new things because they are not “good” at it. Allowing yourself to be imperfect is very freeing.

Thank you so much Paola Collazos for taking the time to talk with us at PaganPagesOrg!

June, 2018

The Ultimate Guide to Tarot Spreads by Liz Dean helps you answer your life questions instantly, while showing you how to read your cards and create your own layouts.

If you would like a definitive answer to a question, try this spread. In it, you ask your question three times and lay one card each time: in total, the cards yield a yes or no meaning.

Three Cards: Ask Three Times: Yes or No?

Shuffle the deck while thinking of your question, then spread the cards face down in a fan shape from left to right or right to left, so that the whole deck is before you. Now ask your question again. With your left hand, choose one card and place it to the left.

Ask the question again, and choose a second card. Place it in the center, to the right of the first card. Now ask your question a final time: choose a third card,

placing it to the right of the second. Turn over the cards and look at the list below to determine whether they’re “yes,” “no,” or “neutral” cards. Here’s how to

interpret the results:

Three yeses: Your answer is yes

Two yes cards with one no or neutral: A yes outcome is most likely, but you may need to wait

All no cards: The answer is no

A mix of no/neutral: The answer is no

One yes, one no, one neutral: Repeat the reading

All neutral cards: The answer is not known at this time; ask the cards again in a few days

Dear Jules

January, 2015

Hello Jules,

I would really like to know how to let go. Let go of sadness, anger, any/all negativity. Thank you for your time.

Letting Go

Dear Letting Go,

I think that acceptance plays a big part on the road to letting go.  Our lives feel lighter and more manageable when we take the time to accept ourselves, our lives, our pasts, presents and futures, our fears, anger, negativity and positive emotions as well.  I think it is important especially to take the time to accept the current situation that we are dealing with.  Through acceptance we are able to let go of the things that weigh us down.

Joseph Campbell said “We must be willing to let go of the life we’ve planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us.”

Blessings,

Jules

Dear Jules,

My daughter & her b/f have been staying with my hubby & me for 6 months. They give us $250 a month for staying. We’ve gotten behind on bills. It’s catching up with us. We just bought this home in May & we were delinquent on our payment this month. Our water bill was late. They run the heater downstairs full blast… The toilet needs… is leaking & running all the time. They didn’t tell us. We had to figure it out. So we told them to shut the water off to the toilet.  There’s 2 more bathrooms upstairs but they still use that one. They turn the water on to it & forget to turn it back off…

I’ve told them repeatedly to stop all of these things. They leave lights on when not home… They both get a few dollars food stamps a month but when they go grocery shopping it’s all for them downstairs.

… Last time I went with her she got a car full & out of that 3 bags went upstairs yet I cook everyday & they eat our food. So, my hubby gave them 2 weeks to decide. Pay 1/2 utilities,  cable, & 1/2 of all groceries & they don’t have to pay the $250 a month rent so really it won’t cost too much extra.

She got smart with me & said none of it is their fault… our light bill is way up, groceries times 2 because there’s 2 extra people to feed, & from the leaking our water bill was $130 this month which I barely got paid before they turned it off.

My hubby puts in a lot of hours at work & we’re not making it all the while they’re getting a roof over their heads, cable, internet, water, lights, Netflix, food, etc. They have 2 weeks to decide on paying 1/2 on what we ask or get their own place.

They act as though we’re kicking them out when clearly we told them we are not! They can stay…

My daughter refuses to talk to her Dad about anything. She just gets smart with me. They’ve been staying downstairs other than when she comes up to get their plates of food when I cook supper.

Thanks,
Frustrated & Confused

Dear Frustrated & Confused,

It sounds like you and your husband are already on the right track because you both let your daughter and her boyfriend know that their forgetfulness with the utilities has caused a spike in cost for the whole household and that the agreed upon amount of rent is simply not enough.

We learn as we grow to pay for what we need and want.  In order for the home environment to be peaceful there must be a balance.  Ask yourself:  What is necessary to create balance in my home?  What needs to be done for harmony to be restored?  Use the answers to help you figure out what is fair for everyone involved.

Right now they are taking far more than they are giving and it is throwing the energy of your home out of whack.  To right the balance all 4 adults under the same roof need to come to a compromise whereupon the mortgage, utilities and groceries are all able to be paid each month.

As far as financial issues are concerned – your daughter and her boyfriend owe money for what they have used already.  In order to steer away from a potentially more difficult situation I think the key is for everything to be fair to everyone involved.  If the money cannot be paid within an amount of time that you and your husband agree upon then it would be prudent to kindly and lovingly suggest that your daughter and her boyfriend find different living accommodations.

In regards to the treatment of you and your husband by your daughter I suggest that the 3 of you sit down and have an honest and open heart to heart that is loving and compassionate and full of forgiveness.  Forgiveness has a way of mending so much.

I hope that these steps will help you and your family find balance once again.

Blessed Be,

Jules

Framing Your Question

Sometimes you come to a reading with a generalized sense of anxiety.  There’s no particular question, you just want an answer.  An answer to what?   You don’t really know.  All you know is that you need to know what you don’t know.

I feel like this quite often.  I don’t know what I’m doing or where I’m going.  I have had an argument with a friend and I feel frustrated.  I have writer’s block and cannot break through.  I have errands to run, but I am agoraphobic; I need to know if it is okay for me to leave the house.  I shuffle my tarot cards or I start making tea for a reading.  I still don’t know what I want to know but I know I have to find out.

The first thing I need to do is prepare myself for a reading.  I like to cast a simple circle by lighting incense and setting it in the east, lighting a candle & setting it in the south, placing a cup of salt water in the west, and lastly, a crystal in the north.  I sit in the middle and meditate until I feel settled and hopefully serene.  Serenity doesn’t always happen.  Sometimes I play music but I prefer the sound of the chirping birds.

When I feel ready, I lay out my cards or I sip my tea and swirl the tea leaves or toss the coins … whatever I am doing.  Even without a set question, answers come.  Sometimes, it is an “Aha!” moment.  It’s “Oh so that’s what I was missing!” or even “DUH!”  But sometimes I stare at the cards or the tea leaves and I am even more confused than before.  Even though I am tempted to just pick the cards up and start over or pour another cup of tea or re-toss the coins, it is important to write down whatever it is I have in front of me right now.  Even though it seems like I don’t have a clear answer, it may be I am not able to see it right now.  I have gone back to readings weeks, months, even years later, and the meaning of the reading has jumped out at me.  So be sure to always write your readings down, date them, and revisit them.

After a reading, thank the spirits who helped you interpret the reading, even if you don’t feel you gained very much.  You always have gained something, even if you are mired in confusion.  The reading stays with you and as you sleep, the images will play out in your dreams.  As the answers come to you, so will the question.  And as you learn to frame your question, you will get a better reading, and a better answer.

Many blessings!

A Question of Healing

Dear Mama Donna,

I have a friend who has been very sick lately with lymphoma, HIV related
KS, and an embolism. Can you suggest anything from your bag of healing aids that I can get for him?

Worried in Wisconsin

Dear Worried,

First of all, I thank you in the name of all human and holy comfort for being such a good, caring friend. Your healing intentions add blessings to his life and yours and to all life everywhere.

Secondly, please know that my work is in healing the psyche and the spirit, rather than the physical — if there is, indeed, a difference. So that is what I will address.

It is important for you and your friend to understand that healing and curing are not necessarily the same thing. Curing is about reversing the effects of illness; returning the body to health, if not precisely the way things were.

Healing is about dealing with the current state of affairs and coming to terms with the situation and adjusting to the new reality with equanimity. That is not to say to resign to being ill, but to accept it as a challenge to learn some deep lessons. This process is not only healing, but can also be curative. Attitude is all.

How is your friend’s spirit, his outlook, his way with himself?

One of my clients just succeeded in transforming her thyroid cancer. She had been bitter, but determined to get better. She fought the disease with fury. She had chemo and radiation, which succeeded only in making her sicker.

But at some point during her ordeal, she realized what her body was trying to tell herself. Since she had not listened to the messages from her body or her own deepest inner wisdom for 50 years, it needed to explode — into an invasive tumor— to be finally to be heard.

She came to realize that her cancer was all the suppressed words, anger, outcries that she had swallowed all her life. She made friends with her body instead of hating it for letting her down. She began to embrace the disease as a part of herself, which it was — her own cells that burst through the repressive boundaries that she had imposed on herself.

Her realization led to her healing. In her case, she was also cured.

Encourage your friend to engage in activities that will nourish his soul and help him live with a positive attitude. Journaling, meditating, visualizations and drawing are all excellent ways that pave the path to our self-knowledge and centered outlook.

Annie Dillard wrote, “I cannot cause light; the most I can do is try to put myself in the path of its beam.” It might not always be possible to cure someone. But we can encourage a profound healing.

Send blessings spirit support to you both,

xxMD
