Pastel Spells

by Rose Orriculum

Taken from the back cover “Pastel Spells is a pocket spell book filled with a variety of spells for witches of all levels of experience, from beginners to long-time practitioners.” That statement really sums up Pastel Spells so well.

This is one of my favorite spell books to date. It doesn’t focus on any certain type of spells and even includes curses. Some of the of the spells are romantic, sexual, anti-love, platonic love/friendship, help with relationships, sour relationships, self-love, self-care/habits, self-care/emotional, healing, and, as I mentioned, curses. There is also a few spells on gender and some on orientation. I felt these spells were something very unique that I had not seen in other books.

I have personally tried some of these spells and I am in love with them. I tried the Stuffed Animal Sleep Spell for my son. He loves his new stuffed animal and now will not sleep anywhere without it.

I have also been using the Restarting Spell at the end of each month. I feel this spell is a great way to end the month and get ready for the new one.

Rose Orriculum has such a way with words and spells. I enjoy her work and cannot wait to see what else she comes up with. To learn more about her, check out my interview with her in this issue!

Chapter 6

The Third Eye Meditation

The ‘third eye’ is positioned behind the forehead just above the bridge of the nose and connects to both halves of the brain. Believed by Rene Descartes to be the seat of the soul, it is widely written about in eastern and in ‘new age’ philosophies. It has strong links with sleep, hibernation, libido and ageing. It is believed by many to be a doorway for astral travel to the inner and spiritual worlds.

An interesting fact to consider is that blue light and modern electric lights reduce the effectiveness of the pineal gland and interfere with sleep patterns.

Red light, – such as candlelight and firelight have no such effect.

Whether we believe astral travel to be a journey to different worlds, or simply an imaginative exercise, has little bearing on its effectiveness. Meditating on the third eye increases our use of intuition and allows us to access guidance and wisdom in the form of many different archetypal figures from our unconscious mind. I know from experience that this wisdom exists and can be tapped by meditation. I will leave the decision on its ultimate source for the reader to make.

Third Eye Meditation

Relax, close your eyes, and breathe as slowly and as deeply as is comfortable, in a dim room.

Candlelight or a dim red light is best for this exercise.

Breathe in golden light through the crown of your head and push it deep into the earth.

Imagine it drawing down any tension and worries into the earth as you breathe.

Create a sphere of golden light around your body, encased in a mesh of fine golden filaments.

Remind yourself that it is protecting you and allowing only positive influences to enter your mind during meditation.

As you breathe in, imagine your body filling with golden light.

As you breathe out, imagine it flowing out from you at a point just above and between both eyes.

Breathe in from the crown of your head and allow the golden light to flow through you down to the earth.

Breathe out through the third eye and become aware of it slowly opening.

Soon you will become aware of colours and a feeling of deep relaxation.

Take note of any other sounds, smells or sensations.

At this stage, many see a tunnel stretching out from their forehead.

If you are ready to journey, then think of a person or place that you wish to visit.

Allow yourself to be drawn through the tunnel and be aware of anything you experience in a calm, relaxed and non-judgemental manner. Simply allow the images and sensations to flow.

If you are not ready to journey yet, then simply continue the meditation for a while and take note of any images that come into your mind.

If you drift into sleep, then be sure to write down anything which you can recall later. If you had a question, then the answer may well be in any dreams you have during your meditation or over the next couple of days. Also, be aware of any ‘coincidences’ that occur after asking a specific question.

You may well receive your answer in apparently random comments by friends or on the media.

Portal Worlds

Cold still waters.

A silver sheen to azure depths that mixed the oceans and the sky within the endless vault.

Stony heights of iridescent blue stretched up into eternity, beyond my visions reach.

It seemed as if I stood upon the threshold to a million worlds,

Which were, somehow, hidden within the earth.

Apprehension gripped me,

As I paused to choose the path ahead and gauge the measure of my visions worth.

Not one path seemed easy to ascend,

Nor could I be sure, – what waited for me at my journeys end.

I stood perplexed, – my feet as frozen as my will.

I could not choose, but yet I must!

And let the journey be just what it will.

The time has come to learn to be,

the very best I may yet be.

I seek the guidance of the higher worlds.

I seek to turn the grit of life,

Into the beauty of sweet Wisdom’s pearls.

I felt my guardian angels touch, and I was lifted up.

My heart rejoiced that I was not alone.

As we flew up to the heights, all sorrow fell away,

And in her loving arms, she carried me back home.

Was this a vision, or a memory or another life, –

I cannot really say.

For as we rose into the distant lights,

We left behind the tiresome thoughts, I carry through the day.

***

We may travel to many places, past, present and future when using the third eye meditation.

Try to always take note of your visions and experiences for later reference.

What is experienced will vary greatly from person to person and for every journey.

Make a point of alternating with a basic relaxation technique to allow yourself time to assimilate your experience.

It may take a while to become effective in using this visualisation. Do not assume that it has not worked, – if you either fall asleep or have simply had a calm soothing experience.

You may also confuse yourself by constantly repeating the exercise without giving yourself enough time for the information requested to become known to you by various means outside of your meditation period.

In the rare event of having a disturbing experience, simply open your eyes and slowly return to normal consciousness. Have a drink and a snack. Take a break for a few days and then keep to the basic relaxation exercise until you feel ready to travel again.

Developing our own path takes time, and nothing will come to us before we are ready for it.

Just approach these meditations in a relaxed easy-going manner and you will gain great benefits from them in a surprisingly short period of time.

Retha’s Crystal Reflections

The Power of Quartz

Ah quartz…my very favorite crystal type. I get excited about every single piece of quartz I own. Hopefully after reading this you will get excited about your quartz too, despite how small or humble your piece, it is a powerful tool! The variations are endless, each piece is unique in its exact formation, it’s colors and it’s inclusions. I wear & work with quartz every single day. I hope you will too after learning more about this treasure!

Quartz is silicon dioxide. It is a mineral that is composed of silicon & oxygen atoms. It has a hardness of 7 on the MOHS hardness scale. Quartz is the second most abundant mineral in the earths continental crust, behind feldspar. Quartz belongs to the trigonal crystal system. The ideal crystal shape is a 6 sided prism terminating with 6 sided pyramids at each end. In quartz crystals silicon and oxygen atoms are joined in a tetrahedron (4 sided triangular pyramid). Linked in spirals, they can be left or right handed. This structure accounts for quartz piezoelectricity. Pressure on a quartz crystal causes positive and negative charges across it (piezoelectricity). It was discovered that alternating electrical charges cause a piezoelectric crystal to vibrate, the basis for quartz use as oscillators to control radio waves or keep time.

Quartz crystals have many commercial uses in fact. Quartz is used in watches and clocks and in a wristwatch vibrates more than 30,000 times per second! They are also used in computers, microwaves, TV, radios, medicine, credit cards, and industrial tools. In electronics they can change a mechanical force, such as a blow from a hammer, into electrical energy.

Quartz crystals are valued for their beauty. They are often used in jewelry. Clear quartz is often called rock crystal.  The Quartz family includes many many varieties. By color, some are Amethyst (purple), Citrine (yellow), smoky (brown/black), rose (pink) and tangerine quartz (orange).

Beyond these, there are varieties named for their growth patterns or their mineral inclusions/occlusions. An inclusion is a deposit of another mineral within a quartz crystal. It radiates the energy of the mineral, focused and amplified by the quartz surrounding it. Some named for their growth patterns include sceptor quartz, faden quartz, nirvana quartz, elestial quartz, skeletal quartz, and cathedral quartz.

Some examples of ones named for their inclusions are lithium quartz, rutilated quartz, golden healer quartz, hematoid quartz, mosaic quartz, harlequin quartz, shamans dreamstone, and phantom quartz. Phew….just to name some!! Then there are also many types that are named for their location of origin, such as Tibetan quartz, Vera Cruz amethyst, Congo citrine, Lemurians and herkimer diamonds!

Properties of Clear Quartz

These are the properties of clear quartz. Keep in mind even within clear quartz the properties vary depending on the formations and inclusions mentioned above. Since quartz is a magnifier, it will magnify the properties of whatever the other mineral is, whether its within the quartz or growing with the quartz on the matrix. Clear quartz is the most powerful energy amplifier the earth due to its helical spiral crystalline form. It can absorb, store, release, and regulate energy. It raises energy to the absolute best state possible and is an amazing healing crystal because it goes back to your pre disease state. It acts as a soul and body cleanser as it cleanses the organs and the soul and connects the physical 3-D with the mind and soul. It can be used for any condition and is a master healer.

Clear quartz stores info like a natural computer program. You can program quartz to take on the properties of any other crystal, and it acts as that crystal until you deconsecrate it for that purpose. Quartz is the ultimate crystal to keep in your arsenal. While I definitely enjoy having crystals at hand in all varieties, and I appreciate working with every minerals unique energy, if I could only have access to one crystal, it would 100%  be a nice piece of clear quartz. Hands down.

Quartz can also be used to enhance psychic abilities and can attune you to your spiritual purpose. It also aids concentration, and unlocks memories. It helps to harmonize all the chakras in the body too.

Crystal healing is an ancient practice. It is thought that as light reflects off crystals the electromagnetic field of the body (the aura) then absorbs that energy. Then areas of dis-ease can be pinpointed and then healed. If you have a nice clear piece of quartz, you can use it as a scanner, running it down over the body while looking through the quartz to see areas that need healing.

Wearing clear quartz daily is an excellent way to raise your overall vibration, as well as to amplify the other crystal jewelry you are wearing. You can also program your quartz jewelry to support specific intentions or energy streams. Doing this at the new moon is a great practice to incorporate into your routine. Having a lot of clear quartz in your home is an effective way to raise vibrations in your space. Spheres, generators and clusters are great choices. Not to mention they make beautiful additions to any decor. One place I would not recommend putting clear quartz is in the bedroom. Clear quartz can be disruptive to your sleep. Amethyst on the other hand is a great option within the quartz family to place in your sleep space.

It fascinates me that while quartz is widely available on every continent, there are some types that only grow in one place on the entire earth! Such as herkimer diamonds. Isn’t that incredible? I am lucky enough to be going to the Herkimer Diamond Gem Show this month as well as going mining in herkimer, NY while I’m there. Its been on my bucket list for awhile and I’m so excited! I will be writing an article all about my experiences in Herkimer. It will be in September’s column. I hope you will come back and check it out! In the meantime, I hope you learned something new about how truly magical clear quartz is and I hope this inspires you to get your quartz out and work with it!

Crystal of the Month: Lemurians

First, a little background information. Lemuria was an ancient advanced society that pre-dates even Atlantis. It was also known as “Mu”. Lemuria was lost and sank to the bottom of the sea in a natural disaster long long ago. The Lemurians were wise energy workers. Lemuria was a civilization celebrating oneness, unconditional love, cosmic connection, humanity as a whole and healing. It was a matriarchal culture. Toward the end of the lemurian civilization, the physical beings were aware that a great change was coming. They set about to find a way to store their precious, vast knowledge on earth for later discovery. Its believed during the last 300 years or so, they were preparing for a cataclysm. Record storage was downloaded into seed crystals. They were then placed into the earth for later discovery. In these crystals, there are bar code like lines that are said to help you to download these important messages that were laser imprinted by this advanced race of beings. The key is in being able to touch these situations.

Lemurian crystals are clear quartz points that are easily identified by the horizontal line patterns, or striations, that are present on some of the point faces. They resemble bar codes and are sometimes referred to as the “stairway to heaven”. These striations can be seen but more importantly FELT. If its a lemurian seed crystal, it will have the striations on alternating faces, or on 3 of the 6 faces. If its a lemurian, it can vary which faces the striations appear. Striations usually end in a triangular face, forming the apex of the crystal. Some are frosted or matte in appearance, while others are very clear. There are also lemurian root crystals, which grow beneath the seed crystals and are the rarest of the lemurian types available to us. They are covered in sacred markings such as shamans portals and are exceptionally clear.

Lemurians can come in clear, smoky, pink, tangerine, and golden in color. They come in all sizes but should be in a wand shape tapering from a thicker base to a thinner point.

The first mention of Lemurian crystals was in the early 90’s and they were coined in a newsletter by Katrina Raphaell. She claimed that true Lemurians only came from one location, the Diamantina mine in Minas Gervias, Brazil. Others now believe that they can come from multiple places in the world. Hawaii for example is said to have a very strong Lemuria connection. I invite you to research this topic further and decide for yourself which school of thought resonates with you.

Its believed that these crystals will find the right “keeper”, and when that keeper connects with it and starts working with it, the messages of ancient higher wisdom are then downloaded into our subconscious. The information can then be accessed by us when we are ready for their wisdom. I like to ask my new lemurian crystal prior to working with her for the first time, to please bless me with their guidance for my highest good and the highest good of mama Gaia.

Lemurians are excellent tools for many purposes. They are perfect for energy workers, crystal healers, lightworkers and Reiki practitioners. Lemurians are believed to carry care or healing instructions for mother earth, and so of course are master healers for humans as well. They can’t be beat for personal healing tools.

Another use is to use it during meditation. You can put the striations against your third eye, or by running your index finger on your left hand against the lines. They are considered to be a communication tool between us and the cosmos. These crystals are attracted to the people who will aid the planet in these times.

Yet another use is in dreamwork. For greater access and recall to our dream state. Investigating your dreams aids in discovering your souls journey.

You can use Lemurians to form a protective circle by holding the crystal in your right hand and encircling the person, room or location.

Whichever way you choose to work with your lemurian know that the more you work with it the more powerful it will become. I could talk about Lemurians all day, but I hope this overview sparked your interest and you get a lemurian crystal to try!

Thanks for spending time with me this month and I wish you all many crystal blessings!!

XO Retha

Notes from the Apothecary

June, 2018

Notes from the Apothecary: The Poppy

With colors ranging from a delicate, golden yellow to brash, bold scarlet, the poppy is a self-contained paradox. Powerful, yet delicate and short lived, this evocative flower has been associated with sleep, death and rebirth for many centuries. This connection comes from the fact that opium, a powerful drug used for inducing sleep and trance like states, is derived from the seed pods of one particular kind of poppy, papaver somniferum. It is possible that humans have been cultivating this poppy since 6000 BC.

Red poppies are also a symbol of remembrance, ever since the trench warfare that took place in World War One in the poppy fields of Flanders. They are used to remember those who fell in defense of other; soldiers and warriors, ancestors who died in battle and those who were affected by the horrors of war. In the UK especially, some people feel like the red poppy glorifies war, but they still wish to honor those who died, in which case they wear a white poppy. This signifies that they do not agree with war on principle, but that they respect and remember the sacrifice made by those who had no choice but to fight.

The Kitchen Garden

Poppies are classed as an herbaceous plant, and are grown mainly for their flowers and seeds. Many of the flowers are highly elaborate, having double or semi-double layers of petals. The red, multi-layered poppies always remind me of Spanish flamenco skirts.

As well as being a beautiful addition to any garden, poppies are very practical. The seeds are delicious, and are often used as decoration and flavor for breads, cakes, buns and muffins. As well as tasting great, like most seeds, they are a great source of protein. They are also high in calcium, so ideal for a dairy free diet.

The oil can be extracted from poppy seeds and used as a cooking oil, or for salad dressings and in baking.

The Apothecary

It should come as no surprise to learn that poppy seeds have been used throughout history as a painkiller, considering they contain the raw ingredients of morphine. They also contain tiny amounts of codeine. The Ancient Egyptians are known to have employed poppy seeds for this purpose, but they must have used them while very fresh as the opiate contents tends to fade quickly upon harvesting.

The Witch’s Herbal

The red poppy is a sacred symbol of Demeter, and as such is perfect for decorating any altar you may have to this Greek goddess of agriculture and law. The Minoans also evidently had a poppy goddess, as shown in the clay statuette found at Gazi. This ancient goddess with arms reaching to the sky has her headdress decorated with poppy seed capsules, showing that the cult that revered this goddess placed special, religious significance on the poppy. This may have been due to its narcotic properties, or the simple significance of the cycles of life, death and rebirth. Either way, it’s clear that poppies are a powerful symbol of at least two ancient cults. Using the poppy today can help us connect to these ancient goddesses.

Also within the Greek pantheon, we have Hypnos and Thanatos, the gods of sleep and death, respectively. These twin gods were both depicted with crowns of poppies, once again reinforcing the association between poppies and sleep and death. Death is a kind of sleep that never ends, and being asleep is so close to death in many ways. The poppy reminds us that just because something looks like one thing, it may actually be something completely different. We should examine and reexamine, and be sure of what we are seeing before jumping to conclusions. It reminds us to be less judgmental, more open-minded, and to appreciate the benefits of sleep and dreams.

Dreams are a doorway into our subconscious. And, while our subconscious kicks out some weird stuff most of the time, it can also send us important messages, including messages from our gods and ancestors.

Home and Hearth

Try keeping a dream journal. This can be a hard habit to get into, as you have to remember to write your dreams down the moment you awake from them. If not, you tend to lose details and the whole dream may even fade within a few minutes.

Before sleeping, meditate on an image of a poppy. A red poppy is the one most associated with sleep and dreams, but if a different color has more meaning for you, that’s fine too. Breathe, relax and imagine each petal of the poppy as a layer of your subconscious. Imagine you will be allowed to explore each layer, just as you can clearly see each beautiful petal of the poppy. Immerse yourself in the sense that your subconscious will open for you, blooming like a great flower, with answers and insight.

Keep a notepad and pen next to your bed. That way, even if you wake up at 3am, you can scribble down the contents of your dreams. Don’t worry if you can’t always remember them. The human mind is complex and temperamental! Write what you can and use it to look for patterns, imagery and symbolism.

I Never Knew…

The pain-killing drug morphine, derived from poppy opium, takes its name from Morpheus, the Ancient Greek god of dreams and sleep.

NATURE ALCHEMY ~ Journey through Spirit in the Natural World

BEAR BED

~ Gift of Dreamtime ~

“Man is a genius when he is dreaming.”~ Akira Kurosawa, considered one of the most important and influential filmmakers in the history of cinema

In the quiet Autumn forest, Great Mother Bear drinks deeply and intently from the cool, running stream. She slowly lumbers over to her hallowed den, where she will dwell in sacred hibernation, the magickal state of Dreamtime.

Mother Bear will dream from October through April, avoiding the harsh deprivations of winter. Preparation for over-wintering begins in summer when she gorges on carbohydrate-rich foods to gain weight, and before tucking into her long winter’s nap she gains 40 pounds of fat to see her through the great sleep. In early autumn, she gathers nesting materials into a cave, burrow, rock crevice, or hollow tree, creating her winter hibernation bed. She typically builds her den just large enough to squeeze through with her cubs, about 2 ½-5ft. wide by 2-3ft. high.

Once comfortably ensconced in her hideaway, Mother Bear rolls into a tight ball with her head between her forepaws, keeping warm by using her great bulk, inches-deep layer of fat, and fur which has more than doubled its insulating qualities during the fall. During slumber, her metabolic rate drops by half. Her heart rate drops from 55 beats per minute to 8, and body temperature from 100°F to 88°F.

While she may drowsily awake after 100 days to eat, drink, release body waste, or exercise, she retreats once again to her sacred Bear Bed, to connect with Spirit through the Gift of Dreamtime. It is here where Great Mother Bear touches the eternal, gaining the wisdom of the ages.

~ BEAR SPIRIT POWER MESSAGE ~

I am Great Mother Bear,

In the place of Sacred Dreamtime.

I call on you to rest your mind and body…

To go into the silence of your inner Dream Lodge,

Where the fruits of the soul ripen,

And send forth into awakening.

I hold this space for you in Dreamtime –

It is your link to the Eternal.

Now, go… and reflect…open the inner doors.

And I will guide you to the birth of Yourself.

~ BEAR ELEMENTS AND SYMBOLOGY ~

Through the physical and spiritual realms of the Five Kingdoms in Nature:

Celestial, Elemental, Fauna, Flora, and Mineral

Ursa Major – the Big Dipper constellation, visible throughout the year in most of the northern hemisphere. Ursa Major means “Great Bear” in Latin. The seven brightest stars of Ursa Major form the famous Big Dipper asterism – a pattern of stars recognized in Earth’s night sky. The square star pattern on one end of Ursa Major forms Bear’s body, and the chain of connecting stars leads to the North Star, or Polaris. Polaris dwells at the tip of the tail of Great Bear, pointing to the North Celestial Pole. As such, the entire northern sky revolves around Polaris, and has held great mythological significance and guidance for countless world cultures throughout time. As we raise our thoughts to Great Bear in the eternal cosmos, we understand why this star cluster holds such a profound meaning. Bear, sleeping in her heavenly bed, dreams amidst infinity – an integral part of the great mythic mystery leading us through our own journey to inner truth. In her deep hibernation of cosmic introspection, she holds the key to creative life resting within us. “The Dreamtime indicates a psychic state in which, or during which, contact is made with the ancestral spirits, or the Law, or that special period of the beginning,” perceives Mudrooroo, known as the father of Aboriginal literature. In our totem Bear Bed, personal strength can come from this universal meditative place of inner knowing, where we can receive intuitive guidance from the abundant blessings of Spirit through the ages. This takes place in the Divine Den of Truth, where the full power of Great Bear leads the way in Sacred Dreamtime.

Earth Den – Bear’s nest of hibernation. Hibernation is a symbolic feminine aspect of the inner unconsciousness – going into the deep, dark well of the unknown to seek knowledge. Earth Den represents the womb of Mother Earth as the inner space of nurturing ourselves within the solitude of introspection, gaining healing and wisdom. In global mystical, tribal, and shamanic cultures, Bear Medicine represents communication with Spirit. Bear’s hibernation is the holy act of going within to gain the personal strength of our truth. It is here, dwelling within our Earth Den, where we can connect with Spirit, Ancestors, and Guides, who share with us the secrets of the ages hidden within the realm of meditative reflection, or sacred Dreamtime. It is here, where we can go and allow our old self to die, like hibernating Bear, to be reborn anew upon the awakening of the self in higher consciousness. Author David B. Lentz, in “For the Beauty of the Earth: A Novel”, shares, “Maybe, life is a kind of waking dream…Doesn’t the existence of dreams and higher consciousness during the years of blackouts of a lifetime, whether longer or shorter, give us a valid premise to hope that another highly spiritual state may await our passing?” From one perspective, this can symbolize the dreaming state as a gateway toward spiritual awakening, and one that can be reached while still living upon Earth. Hence, our dreaming introspection can guide us toward true existence in an awakened state – one that we may surely touch upon during sacred Dreamtime, hibernating within our Bear Bed. Our interior Earth Den is where we digest life experience. And as we quiet the outer mind, we can enter into the Dream Lodge of sacred silence and know that the death of illusive physical reality overlays the expansiveness of eternity. This is where we sit in Council with Spirit, and be advised of our pathway in life. Strength comes from looking within. This is the power of Bear Bed.

Bear – (Animalia Ursidae) a large, stocky mammal inhabiting a wide range of global environments. In robust stature on her forceful, hefty hind legs, Great Mother Bear stands 8’ tall, weighing a solid 800 pounds. She is the epitome of power and self-reliance, with a soundness of mind and purpose. These are her gifts to us, through the healing inner strength that comes from instinctive self-knowledge and confidence. Totems are sacred, indigenous symbols that can help us become closer to our true divine nature, and Bear is a revered totem of many spiritual cultures. Great hibernating Bear teaches us to listen to our inner intuition through introspection, visualization, and dreams. With these inherently divine tools, standing tall within, we can rise to our true stature – our beautiful Infinite Self. Paracelsus, a notable Renaissance alchemist, scientist, physician, and spiritualist, wrote in “The Dream Game”, “That which the dream shows is the shadow of such wisdom as exists in man, even if during his waking state he may know nothing about it….We do not know it because we are fooling away our time with outward and perishing things, and are asleep in regard to that which is real within ourself.”  As wise Mother Bear retreats to her bed, she brings her young cubs into the silence of Bear Bed. They are her dreams of the future, incubating in hibernation. In Bear’s bold stance, she powerfully tells us not to cast our dreams aside, but to pay attention to them. They lead to the door of our inner self. The answers to all questions we seek, about life and who we really are, dwell within the depths of Sacred Dreamtime.

Oriental Poppy – (Paparer Orientale) a brilliant orange-scarlet flower native to the Caucasus, Turkey, and Iran. The beloved Oriental Poppy, common in many gardens, grows up the 3’ tall, with flowers up to 8” wide – a very dramatic display! In appearance it explodes with bold color, but its petals are very delicate, almost papery. This essence of a strong, yet subtle nature resonates with Great Mother Bear, as her mighty spirit curls in deep sleep during hibernation. Oriental Poppy is a sacred flower of indigenous Shamans, powerful healers and spiritual teachers throughout the world, and through the use of its essence, these wise elders and honored medicine doctors travel to the upper and lower worlds during Dreamtime. It is here where they can retrieve the lost aspects of Self. Through this journey into the mysterious, hidden dimensions of the natural world, they offer their tribal communities the great gift of harmony with the self and all life. Great Mother Bear is a totem of the Poppy Shaman, offering her wise guidance to and through Dreamtime, where the body and soul meet as One. Bear offers us this divine groundwork, leading us to an awakened state. After long periods of deep meditative dreaming, she emerges victorious, and able to sustain life with a rebirth of vital, inner energy. “Nobody stops dreaming”, discerned Guboo Ted Thomas, a respected and prominent Aboriginal elder. The soul is eternally calling us within, to meet our True Self, in unity with life. Bear Bed invites us to this inner transformation from the sacred refuge of Dreamtime, where the renewal of true spiritual communion offers a healing harvest – the fruition of inner strength, and the insight of self-knowledge.

Scolecite – a shimmering white gemstone whose finest specimens are found in India.  Appearing transparent to translucent, with a white silky luster, Scolecite promotes inner peace and deep relaxation, and is used as an excellent aid to meditation. Scolecite is known as a “dream stone”, enhancing the dream state, promoting dream recall, and lucid dreaming. As a mineral related to the 3rd Eye Chakra, it can awaken our vision to subtle, energetic messages from our powerful inner self, and higher sources. Within Dreamtime, Great Mother Bear stores the teachings of our dreams until we awaken from the inner knowing of the Dream Lodge. For centuries, this feminine receptive energy of Bear Medicine has aided in opening the portals of prophesy for visionaries, mystics, and shamans. Honored literary, Haruki Murakami, succinctly stated, “I dream. Sometimes I think that’s the only right thing to do.” As we invite dreaming introspection into our life through the hibernating Bear Bed, we can receive the deep peace, balance, and harmony that we seek. ~ CELEBRATION THROUGH SACRED CEREMONY ~

Moving through the spiritual energy of our own inner totem Bear Bed, we can be blessed with the precious Gift of Dreamtime in unity with all life. Here, within the realm of inner knowledge, our True Self eternally dwells.

A personal ceremony can be performed to enhance the manifestation and integration with Bear’s all-embracing gift. This can be a private celebration between yourself and Bear Spirit, or you can invite others to join. It can be as ritualized as you desire, or naturally free-flowing, and include anything you want to say or any object(s) that intuitively feels in harmony with the act of thanksgiving for Bear Bed’s blessing.

A powerful place to hold the celebration would be in a natural area around Mother Bear’s presence, but physical location is not of prime importance. If you do not have access to this environment, any contact outside facing Bear’s auric essence would be helpful. Even if this area is hidden or at a great distance, emanations from Bear’s spiritual source are not obscured, as they flow freely throughout the Universe. If the celebration is held indoors, being in room with a window is encouraged to enhance the presence of natural elements, but if this is not possible, symbolically facing Bear Bed would be beneficial.

As a sample list, any of the following ideas below could be included in your celebration, and verbalized during a Blessings of Intention for Dreamtime affirmation ceremony (see below). Also, any of these offerings may be created and integrated into your ritual either physically and/or symbolically in Spirit.

  1. Begin with a personal intention of Dreamtime to enhance any general or specific aspect of your life.
  2. Light an earth-colored candle to symbolize the powerful essence of the Great Bear, Ursa Major, whose gift is the discovery of the self through deep personal introspection.
  3. Feel the sweet solitude of Earth Den, representing the strength of inner reflection and growth.
  4. Honor great, robust Bear, whose shows us our true power within.
  5. Place a drop of Oriental Poppy flower essence on your tongue to open an inner vision of your True Self, at one with all life.
  6. Envision, or hold, the lustrous gemstone Scolecite, or any other stone resonating the great gift of healing relaxation and meditation. Other related stones include Agate, Malachite, Danburite, and Dioptase.
  7. Proclaim intentional blessings for the Gift of Dreamtime. A simple statement in the form of a heart-felt declaration can attract and summon the heights of magick and power through the fundamental, positive act of intention. By the sincere act of a clear and pure desire, a personalized blessing can call upon the spiritual forces of unity within life – the source of your Infinite Self. You can use any of the following Blessings of Intention affirmations as a guideline to be included into your own personal declaration towards inner harmony and integration with the energies of Heaven and Earth. Written as non-denominational statements, these intentional blessings can be practiced by any single person, or unstructured or organized group, as their own personal form of prayer, charm, chant, invocation, or medicine, etc.
  8. A devotional affirmation of praise, honor, and thanksgiving, as suggested in Dream Song to Bear Bed (see below). This act of appreciation is enhanced with the powerful personal statement “I Am”, and especially when said aloud, can invoke the creative energies of manifestation radiating throughout the Universe, calling upon Bear’s Great Spirit to be infused into your life.  All or part of the Dream Song passages can be included in this holy prayer of purpose and gratitude. Their power summon and embrace a wide range of natural spiritual influences, ancient mythology, and alchemical life-force energies from Indigenous, Native American, Deity, Celtic, Shaman, Pagan, and Wiccan cultures.

~ DREAM SONG TO BEAR BED ~

O Sacred Bear Bed, I rest in you.

I feel your warmth cover me

With the softness of dreams.

It is here where my soul opens,

And receive blessings of Dreamtime.

It is here where I hear the voices

Of life’s Spirits, calling me home.

My heart rests in you, O Bear Bed.

Softly, you call me into the slumber of Truth,

Hidden, but now springing forth.

I hear you, O Power Bear,

Rising up within…calling me to myself…

Thank You, O Bear Bed, for your Gift of Dreamtime.

~ From Heaven Sweet Nature Springs ~

BRIGHT BLESSINGS!

Spiritual Work and Paranormal Investigations (Part 3 of 3)

leight-fljune

Everyone dreams.  Humans and other animals require sleep, and yes, they all dream.  Our mental and physical health is dependant on how we sleep and how we dream.  A common belief is that gods speak to us through dreams.  For example, according to Islamic belief, Muhammad talked to the angel Gabriel several times through his dreams.  As a result dreams are very important to followers of Islam and a person’s dreams are highly respected and private between the individual and the divine.  Some cultures believe we are nothing more than someone else’s dream.  Some shamanic cultures even say that what we perceive as the physical world is the dream and reality exists while we sleep.  Many of the higher levels of mediation and trance-states of altered consciousness allow us to communicate with our animal spirits, spirit guides, and divine entities.

But what if we can communicate with spirits through our dreams the way we do while awake?  Many cultures believe that this is a matter of fact, and stories of this type of phenomenon are not few and far between.  We’ve seen that communicating with spirits on the physical plane can be difficult.  Factors such as the observer’s level of awareness and the entity’s ability to affect the physical world come into play.  But what about the world of dreams?  If we are all energy; if we can understand and communicate with spirits verbally through the collective unconscious; and the fluidic reality of the dreamscape can lead to premonitions, then would it not make perfect sense that spirits can utilize the thinning of the veil between our conscious and subconscious minds in order to communicate in real time and one to one?

Anthropological studies suggest that a belief in life after death originated from dreams of deceased relatives and friends. The research of Dr. Carla Willis Brandon argues that it is indicative of the survival of consciousness in her article Death Bed Visions.

Edgar Cayce once said, “Dreams, visions, and impressions to the entity in the normal sleeping state are the presentations of the experiences necessary for development, if the entity would apply them in the physical life. These may be taken as warnings, as advice, as conditions to be met, conditions to be viewed in a way and manner as lessons, as truths, as they are presented in the various ways and manners.”
However, Carl Jung said dreams are “the main source of all of our knowledge about symbolism.”  This means that the messages you receive from your dreams are expressed symbolically and must be interpreted to find their true meanings.

There are different levels and types of dreams.  Many are just random images and thoughts from our subconscious thrown into a big mixing bowl.  I like to think of general dream states as the mind’s version of defragmenting a hard drive.  It sorts all the data that is collected, deletes broken or corrupted data, and frees up space by rearranging things.  The random images that flash across our eyes during this process are the basis of the majority of our dreams.  That’s why they range from the hilarious to the downright bizarre.  Lucid dreams are those in which the dreamer is consciously aware that they are dreaming and can interact, change, and direct the course of dream events.  What we call “vision dreams” and “spirit communication” dreams cross the boundaries of the physical universe… as we know them. These include the telepathic dream, the shared dream, the clairvoyant dream, the astral dream, the psychokinetic dream, and the precognitive dream.
The average person spends approximately ninety minutes a night in a dream state. Some of us can remember all, or many, of our dreams; others have trouble remembering that we dreamt at all.

The subconscious mind is very powerful and when we are asleep we are in an alpha state of being.  The body is relaxed, and the conscious mind is at rest and usually peaceful.  This allows the boundary between our conscious self and our subconscious mind to be more open, thus allowing the dreams to be experienced.  Our friends and family that have passed over can and do come back to visit us in our dreams.   These spirits will find a way to communicate with us, whether to just let us know they are alright, or to give us a message.  I’ve got several stories in my family of these encounters.

Some of us are fortunate enough to have developed our natural abilities to the point that we can see and hear them through psychic awareness; others will sense them around them.  Sometimes these spirits will manufacture a scent we associate them with.  I was told a story of a woman who communicated with her father and whenever he was around she would smell Electroshave.  Whether or not this is evidence of his presence is subject to debate.  Smell is the strongest sense tied to memory.  If she smelled that or a similar scent then her subconscious mind would think about her father, thus implanting the suggestion in her dreams.  Similarly, she could be thinking of her father and her olfactory sense misfires and tricks her into thinking the scent is in the room.  Still, there are many cases where s particular scent correlates to paranormal activity.

While we are sleeping they can enter our state of consciousness to communicate with us.  Time and time again we have heard stories of those who passed on visiting and talking with their loved ones while they were sleeping.

The death bed vision that Dr. Carla Willis Brandon discusses is “an otherworldly experience the dying and their family members encounter just before death. The dying will report visions of angels, deceased loved ones, or religious figures mere moments, hours, days, or even weeks before actual death occurs.”

One spine-chilling story I can think of involved my grandfather.  This was many years ago in Florida and they didn’t have a phone in the house, the closest one was down the street.  He had a dream in which his brother came to him and was calling out his name.  He awoke very startled from the dream and in the commotion he wrote the time, 3:30 am, on the wall.  The next day he received a call that his brother had died during the night at that very time; in another incident, my grandfather came to my uncle in a dream and told him if he didn’t stop smoking he would die.  My uncle quit cold turkey the next day.

Usually when someone visits you in a dream it will be very vivid, often in living color, you will have total recall of the dream, and it appears to be happening to you in real time.  You will wake up knowing that you indeed had a visit from beyond.

There are several techniques you can use to increase your level of awareness and recall of these types of dreams.

First, test reality.  Whenever anything in the waking state looks out of place or unusual, ask yourself whether or not you are dreaming.  Habitual practice of this technique will make questioning come naturally and to occur automatically while dreaming.
Use dream incentives.  Outside stimuli can induce consciousness in the dream but are not strong enough to awaken the dreamer (such as lights, perfumes, and music). Incentives work differently on everyone, but the most powerful incentives are those that are tied to something of importance to the dreamer or the spirit you wish to contact.

Before you go to sleep say a simple prayer of protection and ask the person with whom you wish to communicate to appear in your dreams.  Communication can occur through conversation or through images and symbols.
Interpret your dreams on a personal level.  The plethora of “dream dictionaries” available is nice, but they’ll often have different interpretations for the same symbols.  When interpreting the symbology of your dreams take into account cultural and societal references and what different objects and places mean to you through your personal experiences.

And, of course, use a dream log to write down all that you remember from the dreams so that you can go back and decipher the meanings and messages later.  If you start to focus your analytical skills on every detail at the same time you’re trying to recall it things will get lost in translation.  Write it down first THEN go back and explore the meanings.

This could take several days to produce results so don’t give up if you don’t succeed the first night.  Try it for at least four nights then stop for a day or two and try again.  If after two weeks you still have no results then take a break and try to communicate with someone else.  Perhaps the person you are trying to contact is not able or willing to communicate at that time.  Perhaps they are not responding because that particular individual has moved on to their next level of existence elsewhere.  Keep positive, stay alert, and be persistent and you will succeed.

We now see that speaking with those who have passed can take many forms and levels of skill.  Whether you communicate with the other side through the lens of a camera and a recorder, through the use of clairsentient skills and psychic abilities, performing a soul cleansing, or using the power of the subconscious mind to reach those who have crossed over through dreams, a vast array of options now exist to aid in your paranormal investigations.

May your dreams be peaceful, plentiful, and productive.  May you continue to expand the boundaries of your personal and spiritual journey.  Until next month… J
