The Ancestors Walk in The Footsteps of the Living

November, 2018

For today a reminder that we will be Ancestors for a much longer “time” (Outside Time) than our lifespan on Earth. Perhaps life on earth is a training for becoming a wise or compassionate ancestor? Let’s make personal and global decisions that we can be proud of once we join our Ancestors!

Some tribal peoples (especially in Siberia) believed that the Ancestors literally walk in the footsteps of the living, in an “upside down realm”. If this is so – our every footstep affects them and pulls on them…. just as they in turn can influence every move we make (if we let them).

As I am publishing a book about Sacred art soon I might try to reinstate the Painting of the Day posts on Facebook (for the days I can manage this anyway).

My new book can now be pre-ordered on Amazon:

Natural Born Shamans – A Spiritual Toolkit for Life: Using Shamanism Creatively with Young People of All Ages on Amazon

Sacred Art

This painting was inspired by a passage in the Bible.

In Judges 14, Samson kills a lion and leaves the body there. When he returns a swarm of bees has taken over and he now finds honey there:

A key concept in shamanism is Dismemberment. It means being taken apart. Our spirit allies will often do this during a dream or shamanic journey and it is a great form of spiritual cleansing because it reaches all ‘forgotten dark corners’ so to speak.

Tribal shamans are put through severe ordeals and initiations by their shaman elders in the community. This completely changes their energy signature. If they survive, they become shamans for their tribe. They have lost their fear of death and learned to walk between the worlds.

In any human life periods occur where we face a great crisis or ordeal that is ultimately transformative and life-changing. For me the honey in this painting represents that process, the evolution of human consciousness. Given time and support, we can make honey even from our greatest mistakes and disappointments.
