ABOUT THE ARTIST
Lori Baratta is a decorative and fine art, painter and illustrator, with over 270 published designs. Her appreciation for art started as a child, when her mother would take her to galleries both locally and during their travels. Her mother also introduced her to astrology, tarot cards, parapsychology and other assorted esoteric subjects. With Lori’s lifelong interest in metaphysics and esoteric subject matter, it was only natural to combine the two into some of her symbolic designs. Her paintings & illustrations reflect many assorted themes and her magickal, fantasy and mystical designs are inspired by her love and respect for Nature and the change of seasons. A quick walk around the rural area in which she lives, can easily spark ideas.
Her art has graced the covers of magazines, catalogs & book covers, and is licensed to companies, who offer her designs on a diverse array of products; from Cross Stitch Patterns and Ceramic Tiles to T-shirts and Note Cards. Products and giftware bearing her mystical images are available in specialty stores nationwide and are also available through her own company which can be visited at Lori Baratta’s site. She also runs a program through her other fine business, donating a portion of proceeds from commissions, to help benefit the homeless and injured animals awaiting adoptions, in No Kill animal shelters. Lori has also written several published, instructional “How To Paint” articles for art & craft magazines in addition to designing custom work and painting portraiture for various clients and businesses throughout the country.
Basically self-taught, she originally started painting in acrylics on wood & later took courses in watercolour & oils, while also studying the techniques of pen & ink, pencils, pastels & gouache, finding a whole new world working in mixed media. “I’ve always had a great love for colors and textures; & find that each medium has a magic all it’s own”. Her commercial work has been reviewed favorably, in national trade publications with some of the attention being focused on the rich symbolism in some of her spiritual and mythical designs, and her commissioned portraits reside in private, public and governmental collections.
Lori currently works and resides in an historic home, with her husband and assorted animals, in the enchanted Catskill Mountains in upstate New York, where she continues to study philosophy and ancient religions, & has come to believe that there is truth & beauty in all paths.
