She Who is All – The Goddess of Ten Thousand Names
Zemyna (Photo Credit – Pinterest) Zemyna is a Lithuanian Earth Goddess. She is the Mother of all things. As the Goddess of Childbirth, one of Her functions concerns fertility. She creates life out of herself and represents the rebirth and renewal of every living thing. She is honored at the birth of every child. Offerings to Her are left at stones, near trees and in the water, thanking Her for a new life. Her name, literally, means “Earth”. She is also called *Blossomer*, *Bud-Raiser* and *Flower-Giver*. All that comes of, and from, the Earth returns to the Earth and so, She also is related to Death. She is the personification…

About Airports and Plastic Water Bottles
I am writing this piece at Gatwick airport where my flight to Reykjavik is delayed by three hours. I treated myself to a chai latte but that made me thirsty. I visited the ladies room where I found a plastic bottle someone had abandoned (half full). I decided to do the unfashionable thing: I took off the plastic top and rinsed it for several minutes under extremely hot water before wiping it down. Then I filled it up for my flights (destination Newark aiport in New York via Kevlavik in Iceland). On the Friday evening just before Christmas I was flying from Stansted Airport to Stockholm with my youngest…

Being of the Earth
(Photo by Isabella Jusková on Unsplash) Ever since I can remember, I had a connection to the Great Mystery. I grew up in a Portuguese family. My paternal grandma was a devout Catholic. She taught me sacred songs in Portuguese and encouraged me to pray to God. I did this all the time when I was confused, sad, or upset and I always received an intuitive response that helped me get through difficult times in my childhood. Though they were mystified at why I wanted to attend mass with my grandma every Sunday, my parents allowed me to go and practice my spiritual beliefs. Even though I am no longer…

Book Review – Secrets of Chinese Divination: A Beginner’s Guide to 11 Oracle Systems by Sasha Fenton
Review of Sasha Fenton’s Secrets of Chinese divination: A Beginner’s Guide to 11 Oracle Systems As readers of this column know, I have been a fan of Sasha Fenton’s for years so it was with great delight that I opened this new (to me) book about Chinese divination. Just under an inch in thickness, this richly colored volume is filled with the wisdom of the ages. As Fenton explains in the first chapter, there are links between the various divinations – they share common ideas, such as the “root concepts” of Yin and Yang and the Five Elements (page 2). In addition to this, many of the major divination systems…

Book Review – Wicca, Plain & Simple: The Only Book You’ll Ever Need by Leanna Greenaway
The cover states that the book is plain and simple and, also, the only book you’ll ever need. The forward of the book was written by Judika Illes, who is, also, an author and I quite liked it. The first chapter informs the reader about Witches and magic. She touches on the different types of Witches like Hedge, Traditional, Gardnerian, etc. It’s nice because she just does a quick little description of each, but it’s enough to give the reader a good idea of the differences between them. After that, she mentions Covens and how they were formed when Wiccans were persecuted so they had to worship in secret. Then…

Notes from the Apothecary
Notes from the Apothecary: Tulips As the earth in the Northern Hemisphere warms between the Spring Equinox and Beltane, we can look forward to seeing the world painted with the vivid colours of the spring flowers. It’s hard for me to pick a favourite as I love so many, but tulips are definitely close to my heart. I grew black ones when I was in my goth phase. I’ve had deep, blood coloured ones, and scarlet ones winking red-eyed at the sky. I’ve had yellow ones vying with the daffodils for the brightest frock contest. They are glossy, bold and brash… and I love them. The Kitchen Garden Tulips aren’t…

WitchCrafting: Crafts for Witches
There be Dragons Merry meet. When I fell in love with a Dragon’s Eye I’d seen on Pinterest, I felt I was lacking the talent and the tools to make one. Blessed be my artist friend Kerry Bower who likes to work with her dragon energy. This is how she made them. Start to finish, you can finish one in about two hours, including baking time and cooling. Gather Supplies: Polymer clay (one small brick can make two eyes) Polymer clay tools Glass cabochons (the size of a quarter, found at dollar stores) Multi-surface paint Acrylic paint (or clay in the colors you desire) Small detail brush Oven Shape a…

The Bad Witch’s Guide
The Bad Witch’s Guide to Pagan Moot Etiquette (Photo by Tim Gouw on Unsplash) I am a bad witch. There are a long list of reasons why I am a bad witch. Having been out of the broom closet for some considerable number of years I would on occasion get asked “but you’re a good witch though?” My response to that depending on the person asking but I found I started to say “yes, a very, very good witch” rather darkly as it usually got the point across. I can only say in this piece my hexperience in British meetings and moots. I go through phases of being…
