{"id":10584,"date":"2015-01-01T01:10:54","date_gmt":"2015-01-01T06:10:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/paganpages.org\/content\/?p=10968"},"modified":"2014-12-31T14:09:46","modified_gmt":"2014-12-31T19:09:46","slug":"signposts-17","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/paganpages.org\/emagazine\/2015\/01\/01\/signposts-17\/","title":{"rendered":"Signposts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Pagan Polytheism<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>I practice a hard polytheistic path.\u00a0 I believe in the individuality of different deities; that they are, in fact, different beings.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t start out this way.\u00a0 Like many aspects of my path my beliefs evolved as I learned and experienced new things.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Before Paganism I thought I had a pretty good idea about how things worked.\u00a0 I had an understanding of the role of a God in life and had been raised with a specific version of what that God was like.\u00a0 There was a &#8220;take it or leave it&#8221; view; you either believed in the God of Abraham or you were an atheist.\u00a0 There were no other Gods.\u00a0 So, I was obviously surprised when I found out that this wasn&#8217;t true.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There are widely different views about the Gods and Goddesses and the roles they take in our lives in the Pagan community.\u00a0 They range from atheist to polytheist and everything in between.\u00a0 Most of the people I&#8217;ve met, however, follow a soft polytheistic path &#8211;\u00a0 they believe that all named Gods and Goddesses are all basically part of or from the same God and Goddess, that we as humans personify and attribute characteristics to them to help us connect with what we cannot understand.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Scott Cunningham discusses this in his book <em>Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner<\/em>:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>&#8220;Every deity that has received worship upon this planet exists with the archetypal God and Goddess. The complex pantheons of deities which arose in many parts of the world are simply aspects of the two.
