{"id":10748,"date":"2015-02-01T01:10:35","date_gmt":"2015-02-01T06:10:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/paganpages.org\/content\/?p=11142"},"modified":"2015-02-03T19:31:48","modified_gmt":"2015-02-04T00:31:48","slug":"a-moment-for-meditation-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/paganpages.org\/emagazine\/2015\/02\/01\/a-moment-for-meditation-6\/","title":{"rendered":"A Moment for Meditation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><em>Mudra<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I love mudra.\u00a0 It is a simple, yet fulfilling, peaceful part of meditation.\u00a0 Mudra is simply yoga for your hands.\u00a0 It is a Sanskrit word, meaning <\/em><em>\u201c<\/em><em>seal<\/em><em>\u201d<\/em><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The ancient yogis found that each part of the hand and how it moves correspond to certain other parts of the body or the mind.\u00a0 It can also relate to your emotions, feelings and your behaviors.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>There have always been hand languages and hand gestures in many of the cultures around the world.\u00a0 Look at paintings of Buddha, Jesus, many saints and religious icons; notice the hand gestures, palm open facing forward or fingers touching.\u00a0 These are mudras.\u00a0 Hand gestures were also used in ritual in\u00a0 Ancient Egypt, Greece and Indian; and, most likely in some traditions in modern day Wicca and Witchcraft.\u00a0 Even in today<\/em><em>\u2019<\/em><em>s world, there is the ubiquitous handshake, hands in prayer and for some of us, the constant movement of our hands as we speak, to name a few.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>There are many, many different mudras within the yoga and meditation world.\u00a0 The most used is gyan mudra but there are several others, which are listed below:<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u00a0Gyan Mudra<\/span><\/strong> &#8211; Very simply sitting with your hands in prayer pose, with the breath, feeling yourself as infinity.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Cup of Compassion<\/strong> &#8211; Hands form a cup, with pinkies and outside of palms touching, facing upward.\u00a0 With the breath, visualize yourself receiving and accepting energy, guidance and blessings from the universe.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Preventing Stress<\/strong> &#8211; Hands are palm up; rest the back of the left hand in the palm of the right hand.\u00a0 Hands will meet in front of you an inch above the navel.\u00a0 Breathe long and deep.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>These are but a few of the myriad mudras available to you.
