{"id":12132,"date":"2016-02-01T01:10:43","date_gmt":"2016-02-01T06:10:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/paganpages.org\/content\/?p=12742"},"modified":"2016-01-16T12:37:16","modified_gmt":"2016-01-16T17:37:16","slug":"aromatic-life-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/paganpages.org\/emagazine\/2016\/02\/01\/aromatic-life-4\/","title":{"rendered":"Aromatic Life"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This month we cover and cleanse with Soaps<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-12743\" src=\"https:\/\/paganpages.org\/emagazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/soaps.jpe\" alt=\"soaps\" width=\"276\" height=\"183\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Witch Soap<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>4 lbs lard<br \/>\n13 oz lye (1 can)<br \/>\n5 cups cold water<br \/>\n1 tbsp lavender oil<br \/>\n1 tbsp patchouli oil<br \/>\n1 cup fresh strawberry juice<br \/>\n1\/4 cup dried soap bark herb (optional)<\/p>\n<p>In a large enamel or iron kettle, melt the lard over very low heat.<br \/>\n(never use metal) In a seperate pot, stir together the lye and water.<br \/>\nHeat lard until small bubbles begin to appear- do not boil.<\/p>\n<p>Remove from the heat and slowly pour the lye solution into the lard.<br \/>\nWith a big wooden spoon, stir the lavender and patchouli oils, the<br \/>\nstrawberry juice and soap bark herb. Simmer for about 30 minutes,<br \/>\nstirring frequently.<\/p>\n<p>Pour into 2-inch deep greased pan and allow to cool overnight. Cut<br \/>\nthe soap into squares and leave in the pan for at least 3 days before<br \/>\nremoving. Place the soap bars on waxed paper and allow to age in a<br \/>\ndraft-free area approximately 4-6 weeks.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Lavender and Rosemary Soap<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lavender (Lavandula augustifolia) and rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) each\u00a0have a mild yet stimulating effect on skin. Both are antiseptic,\u00a0anti-inflammatory, and beneficial for treating wounds, blemishes, boils,<br \/>\ndermatitis, fever blisters, and more.\u00a0Begin this soap by making and infusion of fresh lavender flowers and<br \/>\nrosemary\u00a0leaves. To make an infusion, pour one cup of steaming hot water over three\u00a0tablespoons of dried or fresh lavender flowers and rosemary leaves\u00a0(proportioned as you like) and steep for ten minutes.<\/p>\n<p>3 cups glycerin soap base<br \/>\n1\/4 cup lavender flowers\/rosemary leaves infusion<br \/>\n1 1\/2 tsp. lavender oil<br \/>\n1\/2 tsp rosemary oil<br \/>\n1 tsp pulverized dried rosemary (optional)<\/p>\n<p>Combine melted base and herbal materials. Stir until blended, then pour into\u00a0molds and cool.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Fresh Aloe Vera and Nettle Leaf Soap<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>1 c. glycerin soap base<br \/>\n1\/8 c. aloe vera gel<br \/>\n2 T. crushed dried nettle leaf<br \/>\nOR<br \/>\n2 T. simmered, macerated fresh leaf<\/p>\n<p>Mix together all ingredients and pour into molds. Once cooled, pop<br \/>\nout of molds, and store them in a dark cool place.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Earth Clay Soap<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>1 lb. vegetable glycerine soap<br \/>\n1 Tablespoon Clay<br \/>\n2 Tablespoons Jojoba Oil<br \/>\n1\/4 Cup Distilled Water<br \/>\nColorant and Scent<\/p>\n<p>Be sure to mix the clay separately. I put the tablespoon of clay in a<br \/>\ndish and spoon a small amount of the melted soap and mix it into a<br \/>\npaste, then add it to the soap. This eliminates lumps of clay and<br \/>\nmakes a nice smooth soap.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Oatmeal, Milk &amp; Honey Soap<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>16 oz. goatsmilk or opaque m&amp;p soap<br \/>\n1\/4 cup finely ground oatmeal<br \/>\n1\/4 cup finely ground powdered milk<br \/>\n3 tbls natural honey<br \/>\n1 tbl melted beeswax<br \/>\n1 tbl vanilla fragrance oil (Lavender EO or Peppermint EO may be<br \/>\nsubstitute<\/p>\n<p>Makes 4-4 oz bars<br \/>\nMelt soap base in microwave on medium for 3 minutes in glass<br \/>\nmicrowave safe container or on stovetop double-boiler method.<br \/>\nAdd all other ingredients, stirring constantly until smooth. As soap<br \/>\nbase cools, it will thicken to a pudding consistancy. Pour into<br \/>\nolive oil coated molds or small loaf pan. Let completely harden and<br \/>\nslice or remove from molds. Let air dry 24 hours before packaging.<br \/>\nGreat for dry winter skin.
