Using Alexandra Chauran\u2019s wonderful book, <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><u>Runes for Beginners: Simple divination and Interpretation <\/u><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">as well as the chapter on Runes in <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><u>The Fortune-Teller\u2019s Workbook: A Practical Introduction to the World of divination<\/u><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> by Sasha Fenton, I am slowly \u2013 very slowly \u2013 becoming adept at using the stones. I am also \u2013 of course \u2013 searching the internet for all the information I can find. I made a chart for myself that I refer to quickly and am beginning to memorize the Elder Futhark alphabet. I found the font online and downloaded it so I can use it on my computer. <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-14345\" src=\"https:\/\/paganpages.org\/emagazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/divination.jpg\" alt=\"divination\" width=\"665\" height=\"915\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> One thing I do on a daily basis is draw a Rune as part of my morning meditation. I have been doing this for years with one of my Tarot decks and now I compare the two messages and see if they are working together or opposed and what that means for me. It\u2019s amazing how often they work together. For instance, pulling VII The Chariot and the Rune <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Elder Futhark', serif;\">e <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">, which is \u201ceow\u201d, \u201chorse\u201d, meaning \u201cmovement, travel\u201d. Or II The High Priestess and <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Elder Futhark', serif;\">L <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">, which is \u201clagu\u201d, \u201clake\u201d, meaning \u201cmoon goddess, women\u201d. The more I use the two divinatory methods together, the more this happens. There is a kind of synchronicity that seems to be occurring which is really cool. <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> Of course, plenty of times, I can\u2019t make head or tails out of either the Tarot card or the stones and I just sit there looking at them like <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><i>what the fuck is this? <\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">But that\u2019s okay, too. Sometimes there is no message. That\u2019s just the way it is. The message is that there\u2019s no message. Like the Beatles sang, \u201cI\u2019ve got nothing to say and it\u2019s okay.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> This morning, I pulled the Ace of Wands and <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Elder Futhark', serif;\">v<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">, which is emotional happiness. That tells me that my emotional happiness comes from starting a new project and sticking to it \u2013 rather than looking for emotional love \u2013 I am happiest when I am working. I have been writing all day and feeling really good about myself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-14346\" src=\"https:\/\/paganpages.org\/emagazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/divination2.jpg\" alt=\"divination2\" width=\"534\" height=\"401\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\">\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> One of the things I do at least once a week \u2013 if not more \u2013 is read the Runes using my pendulum. This is how I do it. I put out all the Runes face down. Since there\u2019s 25 of them, I make a square of five rows of five stones. Then I let my pendulum choose which stones to turn over. If the pendulum moves \u2013 generally in a strong back and forth motion \u2013 then that\u2019s a stone to be turned over. If the pendulum doesn\u2019t move, then I go onto the next stone. Out of twenty-five stones, the pendulum will pick between three and seven stones. Usually it picks five. Most of the time, in fact. <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-14347\" src=\"https:\/\/paganpages.org\/emagazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/divination3.jpg\" alt=\"divination3\" width=\"669\" height=\"502\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-14348\" src=\"https:\/\/paganpages.org\/emagazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/divination4.jpg\" alt=\"divination4\" width=\"665\" height=\"499\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> Again, sometimes I can get a good reading out of this method and sometimes I can\u2019t. Sometimes I can even get the Runes to spell an actual word. But if I can\u2019t, it\u2019s no big deal. I just work with what I\u2019ve got. <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-14349\" src=\"https:\/\/paganpages.org\/emagazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/divination5.jpg\" alt=\"divination5\" width=\"794\" height=\"596\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><a name=\"_GoBack\"><\/a> <span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> This particular reading I did just before I went on vacation. Of course, this is true of life in general! <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Elder Futhark', serif;\">k<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> is warmth, \u201clife\u201d and <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Elder Futhark', serif;\">s <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">is the sun, meaning \u201clife force\u201d, and on my travels, I would be seeing both my beloved only son James, and my elderly parents. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Elder Futhark', serif;\">t <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">is \u201cTir\u201d the war god, meaning \u201cpassion\u201d but it looks like an arrow shooting into the sky \u2013 I was flying on my trip and I passionately love to fly \u2013 even with the inconvenience of going through TSA! And <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Elder Futhark', serif;\">e<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> is movement \u2013 I have been in perpetual movement these past few weeks \u2013 taking busses, subways, trains, and of course, planes. So this reading really hit the mark! <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> The more I use Runes \u2013 either with other divinatory methods or alone \u2013 the more I love them. If you haven\u2019t gotten a set yet, get out there and buy yourself one! It\u2019s well worth the money. Or find twenty-five small stones and paint the letters on them. But do it!
