Almost everyone knows <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><u>The Old Farmer\u2019s Almanac<\/u><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">. Sold in the smallest country store as well as the largest supercenter, it is the one of the most recognizable almanacs in the United States. It was always a mainstay in my parents\u2019 home. Another almanac that I remember being in our home was <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><u>The World Almanac and Yearbook<\/u><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> \u2013 when we went on vacations, we would play trivia games in the car during the long drive to our cabin in the mountains of Maine and the <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><u>World Almanac<\/u><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> was our reference. Looking through <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><u>The Witches\u2019 Almanac<\/u><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">, I remembered looking through that fat book of facts and I wondered what I would find in this witchy book. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> I was quite pleasantly surprised. Personally, I have always depended on <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><u>The Old Farmer\u2019s Almanac<\/u><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> to chart the changes of the moon throughout the year \u2013 and I am still a big fan of <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><u>The Old Farmer\u2019s Almanac<\/u><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> \u2013 being a kitchen witch and a woman raised in the country. But <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><u>The Witches\u2019 Almanac<\/u><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> \u2013 for lack of a better term \u2013 is an <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><u>Old Farmer\u2019s Almanac<\/u><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> designed just for us witchy folk. Which is a wonderful thing! And unlike <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><u>The Old Farmer\u2019s Almanac<\/u><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">, it is an actual book, rather than a pamphlet sold in the aisles at grocery stores and supercenters. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> Some background. According to Terence P. Ward of \u201cThe Wild Hunt\u201d, the first <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><u>Witches\u2019 Almanac<\/u><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> was published in 1971 by Elizabeth Pepper and yes, it was modeled on <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><u>The Old Farmer\u2019s Almanac<\/u><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">. 1971 was thirty years before the internet, so networking for pagans and wiccans was primitive at best. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><u>The Witches\u2019 Almanac<\/u><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> sought to remedy that. <\/span><\/span><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;\" src=\"\/\/ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/e\/ir?t=paganpages-20&amp;l=am2&amp;o=1&amp;a=1881098435\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> Forty-six years later, we have the Spring 2018-2019 Edition \u2013 Issue 37 \u2013 which focuses on \u201cThe Magic of Plants\u201d. For a book that is half an inch wide, it is <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><i>packed <\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">with information. The cover says \u201cEver a Keepsake\u201d and after reading the entire volume, I can attest to <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><i>that<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">. This is the kind of reference book you keep on your desk or on the table next to your desk. The calendar \u2013 a lunar calendar, using Zodiac signs instead of the usual names of the months \u2013 has information on the moons, the changing of the planets, the Sabbats and other Pagan holidays, but advice like \u201cbewitch a stranger\u201d and \u201ccall an old friend\u201d or \u201cenjoy solitude\u201d. There are quotes about plants and information about how to use herbs. There are poems and stories. There\u2019s an article about office magic \u2013 for those of us who need protection at work \u2013 simple things you can do with plastic cutlery and rubber bands. There\u2019s <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><i>loads <\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">of astrological information. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"> One of the really cool articles was called \u201cDiabolous in Musica\u201d, about a piece of music by Niccol\u00f2 Paganini.
