Hers is a healing family, as Her sisters are Panakeia, the\nGoddess Who Cures All and Iaso, the Goddess of Remedies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\nCalled\nSalus in Rome, She is also the healer of both physical and mental\ndisease.  She is sometimes called the Protectress of Mental Health.  \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n Her\nsymbol is a cup, or chalice, surrounded by a snake, as She is most\ncommonly shown with a snake wrapped around Her body, holding a bowl\nfor libations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\nThe\ncult of Hygiea started in the 600&#8217;s BCE and spread during the plague\nof the 400&#8217;s BCE.
