The fall equinox sabbat takes its name from the Welsh god Mabon. He was called \u201cMabon, son of Modron,\u201d which means \u201cGreat Son, Son of the Great Mother.\u201d The great mother, his mother, was the earth.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

According to Arwynn MacFeylynnd, who wrote \u201cA Guide to the Sabbat\u2019s Symbolism\u201d found on WitchesOfTheCraft.com<\/a>, \u201cIn the myth of Mabon, the god disappears, taken from his mother, Modron, when only three nights old. Mabon is freed with the help of the wisdom and memory of the most ancient living animals \u2013 the blackbird, stag, owl, eagle and salmon.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAll along, Mabon has been quite happy, dwelling in Modron\u2019s magickal Otherworld \u2013 Modron\u2019s womb \u2013 to be reborn as his mother\u2019s champion, the Son of Light. Mabon\u2019s light has been drawn into the Earth, gathering strength and wisdom to become a new seed.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In that way, his fertility is recognized as we harvest the bounty of the earth. During this the time of abundance, Mabon is putting his energy and light into the seeds that will be planted for next year\u2019s harvest.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
