\nI love\nlittle books that present the subject matter in clear and concise\nform and engage the reader in a practical way so that you can use the\ninformation immediately. Feng Shui, pronounced\n\u201cfoong shway\u201d<\/em>,\nis one of those topics that has hoards of books available that often\ncontain either too much or too little information. As the title of\nthis little treasure suggests, this book holds the basics of Feng\nShui and provides the \u201cjust right\u201d amount of information to get\nyou excited to start the transformation. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nIn these\ndiscordant times, we all are seeking ways to improve our lives and\ncreate sanctuary. The practice of Feng Shui has long been the panacea\nto stress, disharmonious environments and general chaotic energies in\nour surroundings. Ms. Bartlett provides in her Introduction a clear\ndefinition of what Feng Shui is and how it can be used depending on\nwhat your goal may be to bring healing and peace to any space…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n….There\nare several different schools of Feng Shui thought. One, is based on\na scientific and classical approach that uses astronomy, astrology\nand a powerful Chinese compass called a \u201cLo Pan\u201d. Another\nconcentrates solely on cures and enhancements, and a third is a blend\nof intuition and spiritual awareness. This book shows you how to try\nout some of the simpler principles of this highly organized\nsystem…..<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nEach\nchapter takes the reader through the why\u2019s behind selecting to use\nFeng Shui in your space and the how\u2019s to get started without\nneeding to move doors, walls, sell or totally rearrange all of your\nbelongs. The intention of Feng Shui is to tap into the flow of energy\nin a positive and supportive way in a proactive way that requires\nawareness of yourself, and your impact energetically on your\nsurroundings. The additional component is that everything is created\nfrom energy, so those things we have as possessions also contribute\nto how we engage and interact with our surroundings. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nThe First\nChapter takes you through the processes of Decluttering,\nSpace-Clearing techniques and the principles of Yin Yang. Chi\n(energy) flows in accord with what contains and expresses its\nqualities and we are reminded that at its origins the Chi of the\nnatural world was more important than that of the home. Of course, at\nthe origins of this ancient practice, what was defined as \u201chome\u201d\nwas organically more integrated into the natural world than what we\nlive in today. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nChapter Two\nspeaks to the origins and use of the Baqua, a prominent tool used in\nFeng Shui for assessing and mapping your space. The next chapters\nexpand on the information you obtain in using the Baqua to assess and\nincorporate the Five elements. The Five Elements of Chinese use are\nslightly different than the traditional alchemical elements used in\nmagickal workings. These are Fire-Earth-Metal-Water and Wood; each\nhaving their own particular attributes. There are quick lists and\nsuggested cures and supports for each of the elements. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nChapter\nSeven brings it all together with information relating to each area\nof the home and simple fixes to bring a more harmonious flow of Chi\ninto these areas. I particularly liked Chapter Eight and the charts\nto establish your elemental energy type based on your birthday. This\nmay seem like a tangential piece, but the synthesis of all of the\nenergies that permeate the home, inclusive of those who reside in\nthat space is demonstrated to be an important piece of a (w)holistic\npuzzle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nI\u2019ve long\nhad an interest in Feng Shui and tried several applications based on\nbooks, online and more. But, this book truly lives up to its tile of\nbeing plain and simple, which is the perfect recipe for someone who\ndoesn\u2019t have a lot of extra time to spend in learning an Ancient\ndiscipline that is complex, nor the money to hire a professional.\nKudos to Ms. Bartlett!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
