Are you looking for new music? New music with a Witchy edge? Well \u2013 here you are. David LeBarron has a great new band called Half Tongue Tribe with an upcoming album \u2018All Acts of Joy\u2019 and it\u2019s all about Witchcraft and Wicca and Goddess-love and freedom. For those of us who are older and who remember bands the revered the old gods \u2013 whether they were local bands or more regional \u2013 Half Tongue Tribe brings back a lot of memories. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Half Tongue Tribe \u2013 come from Los Angeles, California, and the main writer of the songs is David LeBarron and it\u2019s his voice that you hear on the songs. But, Dan Graul is the lead guitarist and you also hear his voice on the songs \u2013 listen closely, because the two voices will interweave beautifully. Will Norris plays bass and Lee Harcourt does the percussion. Rebecca Graul and Shanna Beauchamp do the background singing, cackling, and conjuring. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

They\u2019re calling it an album but it\u2019s actually an EP but who the fuck cares? There\u2019s five good cuts and they are all excellent. <\/i>I\u2019m an old babe \u2013 I\u2019ll be sixty in May \u2013 my attitude is if I can\u2019t dance to it or sing along to it or meditate to it, it has no value whatsoever \u2013 but every single one of these songs are great.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

If they have five good tunes, they must have twenty-five more, amirite? Ya know? I would love <\/i>to hear their other tunes! Even if it\u2019s covers! Damn, if they ever come to Buffalo, I\u2019ll be taking a nap and staying up way past my bedtime to see them at whatever nightclub they\u2019re playing at \u2013 cuz I don\u2019t go out to see band anymore \u2013 but I will <\/i>make an exception for Half Tongue Tribe \u2013 they are that good <\/i> –and I really want to hear what other tunes they play. And I want to dance to them!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMama Death\u201d is kind of beautiful chant you can use in your own ritual and it\u2019s the perfect opening to the album. I love how all the voices blend together. And I love the little bells! It\u2019s so pagan! It\u2019s so perfect! <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a> \u201cHenri Roussseau\u201d is one of the best songs I have ever heard in my life! <\/i>It\u2019s so funny! It made me think of the tunes of a band I used to hang with back in 1979 \u2013 I\u2019m not going to get into that here \u2013 but wow, great memories. To make me think of my old punk days \u2013 that\u2019s something. <\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMissionary Man\u201d is a cover and it rocks! It\u2019s totally dancdeable and that\u2019s THE one thing I look for in a song \u2013 other than \u201ccan I sing this song\u201d \u2013 because I totally love to dance. And I bet \u201cMissionary Man\u201d really rocks in a club.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSwordfish\u201d was great poetry \u2013 I loved <\/i>it \u2013 but it stopped playing halfway through the song. I tried to get it to play several times but it wouldn\u2019t work. It kept cutting out at 1:31 minutes. Maybe the Mercury Retrograde had something to do with that. I\u2019ll try again after Mercury goes direct. I really want to hear the entire song. Here\u2019s the beginning of the song:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe sun will be high because it will eat an edible<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The sky will be blue because it doesn\u2019t like to share\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I had to laugh about the sun being high about eating an edible \u2026 that\u2019s so twenty-first century. I mean, back in my day, it would have been about dropping acid or something like that. And the fact that the sky doesn\u2019t want to share. I mean \u2013 we all shared everything back in the day. But things change. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Another great <\/i>song is \u201cChoose Your Path\u201d. Totally pagan in concept, it has the folk-rock sound of the late sixties that an old babe like me totally loves. I would love <\/i>to dance in spirals in the sunshine to this tune! At a pagan festival, ya know? Hearing it just brought the image of people dancing in multicolored clothes with smiles that just won\u2019t quit. It\u2019s that kind of song. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
