But, John Waterhouse\u2019s painting of Circe Invidiosa, the one of her staring into the bowl of iridescent water as if to see the whole of creation, persuaded me to give it a try. Circe has never led me astray, and she didn\u2019t this time. Once I started, I didn\u2019t put it down, finishing in one sitting. T. Thorn Coyle\u2019s book is a masterpiece of magic, a weaving of Eliphas Levi\u2019s Four Powers of the Sphinx, the principles of the Witches\u2019 Pyramid \u2013 To Know, To Will, To Dare and To Keep Silence &#8211; into a practical manual for developing awareness, changing consciousness and discovering the desire that lies at the heart of your being. It is not for magical practitioners only. It is workbook that anyone can use, no matter their religion or belief system. Coyle says, \u201c \u2026while this isn\u2019t a book on magic per se, studying this book will help to increase the amount of magic in our lives, until, over time, they become continuous acts of magic.\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Coyle has focused the book on how to live a life that is fed by true innate desire -not what we are taught to want by media, family and culture. Working with each principle of the Witches\u2019 Pyramid, she take us through the power of listening to ourselves and how to get quiet enough to do that, the beauty and power of the \u201cordinary,\u201d working with resistance and fear, an examination of the meaning of sustainable success, and the spaciousness and flexibility in \u201ckeeping silence.\u201d Coyle emphasizes shifting perspective by reminding us to remember the longer arc of life rather than constant emergencies and to pay attention to how we tell the stories of these. By the time I was reading the second chapter, my perspective literally had shifted. I felt lighter, freer, more spacious and fully open to possibility. Truly.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">The book contains a part for each of the Four Powers of the Sphinx. There are \u201cSoul Support\u201d sections for work you may do to access the power of these principles as well as insights from members of a Wise Council \u2013 activists, writers, doctors, musicians, etc. &#8211; about their practice with desire and how it informs their work in the world. Coyle has included stories from her own life and her work with clients and friends. Each part ends with a ritual for integrating the energy of that power. Coyle recommends working with each Soul Support exercise for at least a week to let the practice sink in and deepen. Since I read the book straight through and was so affected by it, I will now re-read it and work with the practices as recommended. I expect that I will love this book even more after I have spent additional time with it. I also suspect that I will re-read it more than once! Thank you, Circe! And thank you, T. Thorn Coyle.
