It\u2019s not so very different than what happened with the Tarot and my other divinatory practices \u2013 when I retired from active employment and decided to embrace my singleness relationship-wise, there was little reason to consult <i>any <\/i>form of divination \u2013 life was more or less the same every day and it was comfortingly boring. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"> With COVID-19, my life has shrunk even further. With the exception of a little grocery shopping, I go nowhere and see no one. Since my son has left for the Army, I live for his letters and the few phone calls he is allowed to make. I read books, watch Netflix, write poetry and do needlework. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"> I was reading some old diaries of mine recently \u2013 they will <i>filled <\/i>with tarot readings and with readings of the \u201cSecret Dakini Oracle\u201d that I had gotten as a present from a lover. I realized that I <i>missed <\/i>doing readings \u2013 I just don\u2019t know what I need to know! If that sounds crazy \u2013 well, I know it does. But when you\u2019re not in love and not looking for love, what do you need to know? If you\u2019re retired from the workplace and employment isn\u2019t an issue, why would you ask the cards about <i>that? <\/i>If you only child is in the Army \u2013 well, you don\u2019t need a deck of cards to figure out <i>his <\/i>future. Still \u2013 I have that longing. I want to lay out the cards again and read what was going on. There just isn\u2019t anything going on. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"> When it came to the Tarot, the Rider-Waite deck was my first deck and remains my go-to deck for readings. While I possess other Tarot decks, I can do a reading with the Rider-Waite deck and read the cards like it\u2019s a Dick and Jane book \u2013 the original reader. Learning the Lenormand hasn\u2019t been that easy for me \u2013 it\u2019s been a difficult second language, to say the least. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"> However, when I compare the two systems \u2013 Tarot and Lenormand \u2013 it seems to me that Lenormand is far more suited for this time of coronavirus than the Tarot. The Tarot has so many <i>people \u2013 <\/i>a typical Tarot reading is like going to a party \u2013 no social distancing whatsoever. But the Lenormand has very few people \u2013 there\u2019s animals and places and things. You can do a \u201cLine of Five\u201d reading and not have a card with a person at all. It\u2019s really perfect for the times in which we now live. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"> I was going to buy a new Lenormand deck no matter what. There were several I was considering \u2013 because of their beautiful artwork, basically. I decided on Pixie\u2019s Astounding Lenormand because of its artistic closeness to the Rider-Waite \u2013 I love Pamela Coleman Smith\u2019s artwork. And I wanted to eventually work out a system where I could perhaps use the two decks in one reading. That, of course, is well in the future \u2013 I just received the Pixie deck today! <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"> The cards are so adorable.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-23378\" src=\"https:\/\/paganpages.org\/emagazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/learning-lenormand2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/paganpages.org\/emagazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/learning-lenormand2.png 572w, https:\/\/paganpages.org\/emagazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/learning-lenormand2-300x225.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">It was created by Edmund Zebrowski, a massage therapist \u2013 really! \u2013 who explains in the \u201clittle book\u201d that the cards were originally \u201can exercise in creativity\u201d and \u201cnot even intended to be published\u201d (Zebrowski, 4). However, after he posted a few of the cards online, the buzz was so great that U.S. Games became interested, and the rest is history. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"> I Googled Zebrowski and it seems that his only online presence is his Instagram page. He has a wide range of interests. I became one of his followers. Not only does Zebrowski give the \u201cmeaning\u201d of each card, but he explains how he put together the artwork of the card \u2013 which Tarot cards he used and why. As someone who regards the Tarot as her first \u201cdivinatory\u201d language \u2013 and the Rider-Waite deck her natural dialect among first languages \u2013 knowing the sources of the imagery of Pixie\u2019s Astounding Lenormand helps immensely in analyzing the cards within a spread. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"> I shuffled them for a while \u2013 they\u2019re nice and small and made of quality card stock, with a smooth, glossy feel to them \u2013 they slide well through the fingers.
