But if you want immediate answers, I think the best method is Numerology.

When you use Numerology, you add up the numbers in your birth date and the numbers that correspond to the letters in your name and you get an immediate answer. Numbers have definite meanings. You don’t have to interpret the pictures on a Tarot card or think about the meaning of the Runes you threw or figure out your Astrological chart and then analyze every little detail, which can be quite in-depth and confusing. Numerology is just about numbers and the meaning of these numbers. And once you learn the basics, you really have it.

Now it’s often said that one numerology book is much like any other numerology book but honestly, that’s not true. Like astrology books, they can be superficial or they can be so in-depth that the reader can become confused quite quickly. Usually numerology books err on the side of superficiality. They promise to tell you the secrets of your entire life; usually they just tell you the meaning of your birth name and your birth date. Sometimes they might tell you what kind of person with which you have a particular compatibility.

I have read books by Dusty Bunker in the past. You don’t forget a name like that! In fact, I am remember that the first numerology book I read was by her, borrowed from the library, many moons ago. I thought that “Dusty Bunker” was a pen name – it seemed like a pun – maybe it is a nom de plume – but who cares? It’s her name. She’s no neophyte! She’s experienced in esoteric affairs and has been for a long time. Her website is http://www.dustybunker.com/ and you can check out both her non-fiction and her fiction selections, and also her personal passion, the Lake Region Human Society, which shelters lost, abused or unwanted animals in New Hampshire. There is also a link if you would like a consultation with her.

This is the second edition of this book. The first edition was published in 1979 and I am quite sure that I read the first edition; I probably got it out from the library. I know I didn’t own it or any other numerology books. I couldn’t afford to buy books in those days and I worked at the library anyway. I did read more than one book on the subject and took lots of notes which went into my Book of Shadows. I still have these notes.

Numerology and Your Future: The Predictive Power of Numbers has far more information than any other numerology book I have ever read. There are five parts to this book and twelve chapters overall. The first part is just basic numerology – the same information you would get in almost any other numerology book. You know – how to add up and reduce your numbers for your given name, your nickname, and your birth date. What if you have a “Y” in your name? Like I do in my first name. I don’t quite agree with her that you read the “Y” as both a consonant and a vowel – in my name, the “Y” works as a vowel and not as a consonant so I can’t see the point of looking at it both ways. But maybe in other names, the “Y” works differently. I do agree that the “Y” notates a “duality” and indicates a “double role in a person’s life”. (Bunker, 29). I know this is true for me.

She really spells things out. She talks about the confusion about “what to call the numbers in a birth blueprint” (Bunker, 33). If you have read other numerology books, you will know that there are many different names for the numbers you calculate – for instance, the “life path number”, the “life expression number” and so on. She presents new designations for these concepts which are much easier to remember. She calls this section “Let’s Call It What It Is” and she explains thoroughly the meaning of your vowel number, your consonant number, the name number (vowels plus consonants), your birthday number, and your whole number – which is the addition/reduction of your birthday number and your name number. I had never heard of this “whole number” concept before and it was quite enlightening.

As she explains all this, she mixes in spirituality – heavy on the Judeo-Christian side of things – but she also mentions the Tao and Aristotle and other philosophical concepts. However, I must warn you that she has a Christian mindset. I don’t have a problem with this – having been raised Catholic – and being able to understand what she is talking about. But if you are someone who only wants to read divination books that are purely pagan in its approach, you might want to look for another book. Personally, I think there is so much great information in this book that I suggest being tolerant with her views. I mean – don’t throw out the baby with the bathwater, as the saying goes. The information is important, even if it’s not framed in pagan or wiccan terminology.

Chapter Three is quite interesting. She talks about one’s “birthday color”, based on the number garnered by the birth date. I had never heard of this before in any other numerology book, although I am acquainted with the idea of colors that correspond to numbers – and letters – I also know about the musical tones harmonize with letters and numbers, although she doesn’t go into this. The idea of a “birthday color” is really cool. This has a lot to do with auras, although auras change with your mood, as she points out on page 47. My birthday numbers add up to 22 – a master number, which she discusses later in the book – and of course, 22 reduces to 4. Birthday number 4 is the color green, which has always been one of my favorite colors – and is an earth color and a healing number. She writes about the color green’s meaning: “You are here to be a steward of the earth, to build strong foundations, to take care of your body, to experience physical and sensual relationships, and to enjoy your senses through touch, taste and smell.” (Bunker, 58). That is certainly me.

There’s a chart with the numbers and the colors that correspond to each one:

She also talks about “birthday gifts”, based on your birthday number and the color associated with it. She says these gifts are not “earned” (Bunker, 68) but a benefit presented to us at the moment of our birth. As my birth numbers add up to and reduce to 4, my birthday gift is healing. Healing isn’t just about health or helping others to be healthy – she writes that the number 4 birthday gift means that I – and everyone else with the number 4 – has the “ability to restore order, to create comfortable and organized spaces, to be steady and dependable” as well as being able to spread a “calming influence over those benefiting from your efforts”. (Bunker, 72). Again, this is very much me – I am a very organized person and can create a homey atmosphere in any place I am placed.

Part II is called “Your Time Machine” and it’s all about the patterns in your life, as determined by the numbers in your birth date. I have read of these concepts in other books, notably by Mary K. Greer and Angeles Arrien, who broach these theories in Tarot terms.

I like this chart she presents. Believe me, this chapter will make a LOT more sense if you do! I know just looking at my own chart and seeing the numbers that corresponded to the age I was at that time and remembering what happened that year – it all made sense. And sometimes – I know this is true for me – you might not understand why everything that *should* have been so wonderful turned out so … terribly wrong – but looking at the number of your year – it just wasn’t the right time for what you wanted.

She writes that everyone has a personal month that corresponds to their birthdate; for instance, my birthdate is May 19th so my personal month is the 19th of any month to the next month. Within your personal month, you have “peak points” – this occurs about two weeks after the day you were born. “This is similar to the phases of the moon…the beginning ‘day’ of your personal month is the new moon: the half way point through your personal month, about two weeks later, is the full moon.” (Bunker, 96).

There are also “action points” in your personal month. These are about every seven or eight days but you add from your personal month starting date, so for your second action point, you would add twenty-one to twenty-two days from the starting date. Yeah, I know it sounds confusing but once you get your own numbers worked out, it all makes sense.

Bunker also talks about your Personal Day Cycle, Peak and Action Points in your Personal Day Cycle, and Universal Year Cycles. There’s a lot to learn here. Take your time while reading this book and take notes! You’ll be happy that you did.

Chapter 5 is “Additional Techniques” and it goes beyond anything I have ever read in any numerology book. On page 108, she introduces a concept called “Pinnacles and Challenges”, which I have never heard of before. She writes:

“Your pinnacle numbers reveal the circumstances and events that occur during the ages indicated, which we will calculate shortly. Because she says that metaphysically, the Creative Force in the universe is represented by the number 36. This is because 9 is one complete cycle and 4 is connected to the four seasons of the Earth , and its four elements – Fire, Water, Air, and Earth – and 9 x 4 = 36. “Many of the multiples of 36 are considered sacred numbers because they relate to terrestrial and celestial measurements.” (Bunker, 108)

This is how it works, using my birthday number, which is 4. Step 3: Add 9 again, and the third age group is 42 to 50. Step 4: The fourth age group starts at age 51 and goes until the end of my life.

She has a chart for this and here it is:

On page 112, Bunker explains what the Pinnacle numbers mean. What she says about this is “Cooperation and diplomacy will serve you well during this period…There is hidden magical energy here; nurture these things that are stirring beneath the surface.” (Bunker, 112)

You find the Challenge Number a little differently. Use your month and day number of your birth. Subtract the smaller number from the larger number; in my case, I would subtract the month number 5 (May) from the day number 19, which would result in 14. This reduces to 5. So my first challenge number is 5. The second challenge number used the day and the year of your birth. Again, you subtract the smaller number from the larger number: I was born in 1960, which adds up to 16, so 19 minus 19 equals 3. This number was in effect from ages 33 to 41. The third challenge number uses the numbers of the first and second challenges. You just subtract the smaller number from the larger number. In my case, that’s 5 minus 3 and the result is 2. That was my challenge number for the ages of 42 to 50. The fourth challenge number uses the month and year of birth. Again, subtract the smaller number from the larger one: for me, that’s 16 minus 5 which equals 11 and reduces to 2. So at this point in my life my challenge number is a 2 and this means I need to “Take the back seat…Learn to cooperate and be more companionable. Relationships require a more sensitive touch on all levels – personal and professional…Learn to be the power behind the throne.” (Bunker,115)

There is so much more – your Power Number, Your Number Habit, Your House Number – more than I can cover in this review. Chapter 7 is “Thoughts from My Notebook: From Cubes to Crystals” and it’s her thoughts on all kinds of metaphysical themes which intersect with numerology. It’s quite interesting and should not be missed.

Chapter 8 looks at why we say what we say about numbers – for instance “You’re number one” – as Bunker points out, we never say, “you’re number 4” (Bunker, 153). She goes through all the numbers and you will recognize every single one of these sayings – “the terrible two”, “things happen in threes”, “the seven-year itch”, “the whole nine yards” and so on. This is a great reference guide. She pairs the numbers to the Tarot, which is also helpful for those of us who read the cards – Numerology and Tarot go together like peanut butter and jelly. After thoroughly discussing Number 1, she talks about the Master Number 55, since 55 reduces to 10, which then reduces to 1. So the Master number 55 belongs with the Number 1. Likewise, she discusses the Master Number 11 with the Number 2, and the Master Number 66 with the Number 3 and so on. Honestly – this chapter could really stand alone as a Numerology text – along with the first couple chapters that tell you how to determine your birth and name numbers – but then, we would all miss out on the rest of the wonderful information in the rest of the book.

References

Bunker, Dusty. Numerology and Your Future: The Predictive Power of Numbers. And she has been around forever. She is just a few years younger than my mother, who had her eighty-sixth birthday this June, so that says a lot right there. There’s a chart with the numbers and the colors that correspond to each one: She also talks about “birthday gifts”, based on your birthday number and the color associated with it. Of course it may be different for you or for me but it’s really a great chart. I was born in a 4 year so using graph paper, I created a chart for me. Here is it: So using graph paper or a computer-generated chart or whatever kind of grid you want, create a similar chart for yourself and then follow along as you read. She writes: “Your pinnacle numbers reveal the circumstances and events that occur during the ages indicated, which we will calculate shortly. These are helpful sign posts along the highway of your life, showing you what energies are available during your pinnacle periods of time. There numbers reveal what the road ahead has to offer: the smooth sailing highways, when to turn off for the scenic views, where the gas stations are, and when to focus on staying at home curled up by the fire…Pinnacle numbers assist and encourage you in accomplishing your goals.” (Bunker, 108) She goes on to write, “To find the ages at which your pinnacle and challenge numbers will operate, you first have to subtract your birthday number from the number 36.” (Bunker, 108) Why the number 36? Because she says that metaphysically, the Creative Force in the universe is represented by the number 36. This is because 9 is one complete cycle and 4 is connected to the four seasons of the Earth , and its four elements – Fire, Water, Air, and Earth – and 9 x 4 = 36. “Many of the multiples of 36 are considered…

[10005
10346,10095,13075,13073,10075,13074
post-24344","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-reviews","tag-author","tag-book","tag-dusty-bunker","tag-numerology-and-your-future","tag-review","tag-the-predictive-power-of-numbers
["GET
