Do you know Blodeuwedd? If you do, you may, as most do, think she is a cheater at best, and an attempted murderess, at worst. If you do not know her, this is the perfect introduction.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This book, by the wonderful Jhenah Telyndru, is part of the Pagan Portals series by Moon Books, and is a perfect addition to this series. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I was particularly intrigued by how Ms. Telyndru’s narrative has been influenced by the rights of women – then and now – and how, put in perspective, Math and Gwydion, take women’s creative power. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The idea of Blodeuwedd’s sovereignty, and by extension, women’s sovereignty, is a key element in this narrative. Women’s sovereignty, from a cultural standpoint, is discussed, as well as it’s evolution and how this pertains to Blodeuwedd’s personal sovereignty, and to our own sovereignty, as women.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

It is easy to forget, reading her story, that she was made, unconsenting, with no teaching of life, or what it was to be a woman. She is a woman made from flowers, no life before, no family to stand with her. Her family becomes those who have made her, and we learn about them in Blodeuwedd’s story, as well as in the large tale of <\/span>Y Maginogi.<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We learn that Blodeuwedd did not speak until she found her own sovereignty upon falling in love with Gronw, a. neighboring lord. When she finally does speak to Lleu, her husband, she does so exactly as he expects, quiet and submissive, never dreaming she could be anything but; he learns differently.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

One can look at Bloeduwedd’s tale as one to which women should pay close attention to so as to not mimic her behavior, or one can perceive it to be a roadmap for taking control of your own life. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We learn of her <\/span>punishment;<\/i><\/span> of being turned into an owl, with all the mythology of the significance of the owl in early, and later, Celtic culture. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Ms. Telyndru looks at the culture from whence this story came and puts it into context for us, and how we can take Blodeuwedd’s story and take it into the future, ever evolving as we do.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The reasons Blodeuwedd is a Sovereignty Goddess are discussed, as well as her transformation from Flower Bride to Owl.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The book concludes with a section on, not only reclaiming Blodeuwedd as a sovereignty Goddess, and establishing a relationship with her, to in also reclaiming our own personal sovereignty.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Ms. Telydru, in 136 pages, has written a beautiful, reverent book, rich in details, about a most misunderstood Goddess. The book is filled with fascinating research and the wisdom we have come to expect from this author. Her love for her subject comes through in every word. <\/span> Highly recommended.<\/i><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
