{"id":2923,"date":"2009-12-01T01:10:00","date_gmt":"2009-12-01T06:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/paganpages.org\/content\/?p=2981"},"modified":"2009-11-28T21:10:50","modified_gmt":"2009-11-29T02:10:50","slug":"gems-of-the-goddess-11","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/paganpages.org\/emagazine\/2009\/12\/01\/gems-of-the-goddess-11\/","title":{"rendered":"Gems of the Goddess"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Freyja \u2013 Queen of the Valkyries<br \/>\nGoddess of Love, Beauty, War and Death<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Freya\" rel=\"lightbox[pics2981]\" href=\"https:\/\/paganpages.org\/emagazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/Freya.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"attachment wp-att-2982 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/paganpages.org\/emagazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/Freya.jpg\" alt=\"Freya\" width=\"323\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Freyja (also known as Freya) was one of the major goddess of Norse mythology and leader of the Valkyries.\u00a0 She was the goddess of love, fertility and beauty.\u00a0\u00a0 She is also known as the Goddess of war, battle, death, magic, prophecy and wealth.\u00a0\u00a0 She could be seen as the counterpart to Rhiannon and looked upon as the Lady.\u00a0 It is thought that the day of \u201cFriday\u201d was named after Freyja.<\/p>\n<p>Freyja was married to mysterious God Od, who is sometimes associated with Odin.\u00a0 One of the myths associated with this is that Od left her and as she searched for him, she cried tears which turned to Gold.\u00a0 This is known to be where the world got its Gold (and also its Amber).\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Once she found him, Od saw her beauty and came back to her.<\/p>\n<p>As one of the major Norse Goddesses, Freyja had a lot of responsibility.\u00a0 She helps with childbirth, the seasons, cats, Seers, war, death, magic, prophecy and love, holding a Venus like quality.\u00a0\u00a0 As much as Freyja had a softer quality, loving beautiful flower arrangements and romantic music, she also was the Goddess of War and Death.\u00a0 When she rode into battle with the Valkyries, their armor will flicker with light, which became known as the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights.<\/p>\n<p>Freyja could claim half the bravest souls in battle.\u00a0 She would actually walk onto the battlefield to collect their souls and bring them back to permanent rest and relaxation and being a generous woman, she also invited their wives and lovers to return with them.\u00a0 The other half would be gathered by Valkyries, lead by Odin, and brought back to Valhalla (the \u201cotherworld\u201d) to also live in rest and relaxation.<br \/>\nShe was beautiful \u2013 described as having strawberry blond hair and blue eyes.\u00a0\u00a0 She had many lovers and was known as the goddess of lust, desire and sensuality.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Aphrodite\u2019s exploits paled in comparison to Freyja.\u00a0\u00a0 Even though she had many lovers, she held a very deep love for Od.\u00a0 (Remember, monogamy had not been established yet.)<\/p>\n<p>Part of her irresistible nature was the necklace Freyja had\u00a0 (the \u201cnecklace of desire\u201d) known as the &#8220;brisling&#8221;
