I’ve read that other dates (like the 20th) are equally legit, since the Spring Equinox tends to move around a little.\u00a0 Hey, why not? Wiccans are rarely hobbled by consistency, right?<\/p>\n WHAT PRECISELY IS IT?<\/strong><\/p>\n A Sabbat that observes the Spring or Vernal Equinox, when day and evening are equal in time, representing balance and duality–masculine\/feminine, yin\/yang, above and below. It’s celebrated with, among other activities, rituals, feasting and painting eggs and\/or planting seeds.<\/p>\n HOW TO OBSERVE IT?<\/strong><\/p>\n I’m taking it kind of easy on the nonstop partying this season, so I was just going to observe by writing up my column. Fortunately, I have a wise little kitten familiar who knows that this Sabbat is all about balance. Tiny Tabitha climbed up into our bed and hijacked my attention by hiking across my keyboard. At first I was cross, scolding her and putting her back on the floor. (Grump, grump.) But she kept at it, and I realized she was telling me it was time to play! I shut down the laptop, brought out my telescoping backscratcher and we had a great<\/em> time swatting and pouncing and laughing for a while.
