Baphomet is perhaps the most famous, or infamous, Occult icon of our time. Thanks to the Church of Satan and the use of the Sigil of Baphomet in metal, glam rock and rock music imagery, as well as the Satanic Panic shock factor it embodies, Baphomet, their sigil, their image, is ingrained in many of our heads, even if we have no prior experience or knowledge of them. Baphomet as we now know them came to be in the 1800’s with Eliphas L\u00e9vi’s\u00a0The Doctrine and Ritual of High Magic.\u00a0<\/em>Of course, such an image and conception wasn’t original to L\u00e9vi, as the Templars were accused of worshipping an idol by the name of “Baphomet”, in French,\u00a0BAFF-O-May.\u00a0<\/em>This name is likely a variation of\u00a0Mohamet<\/em> as the Templars took part in the crusades of Muslim lands.<\/p>\nBaphomet, even before being named, was around; as an energy, the Devil in the woods, the Witch’s Devil of the Sabbat, as well as the diabolical one of Christendom. To be fair, Baphomet has taken on the worst of our collective consciousness, quite gracefully, I might add, and is still here, wanting to help humanity. In my experience, as Baphomet is Earthbound, or Chthonic, they do have a fondness for humans that is unmatched from other spirits and deities. Some view Baphomet as simply a metaphorical or allegorical image or icon; some view them as an actual being, whether an egregore, an aspect of the Horned Gods of Old, the Devil, or as the spirit of all life, death and regeneration on Earth. Others may view him as a divine rebel, one who stokes the Luciferic flame, lighting others on the path to liberation and total freedom of self. However you may view Baphomet, they are a force to be wreckoned with, and one that is coming to help humanity in its darkest and most dangerous hour. Will you heed their call?<\/p>\n

An Unlikely Call At An Unlikely Time<\/h3>\n
As soon as I get home, I put on my Sigil of Baphomet pendant, and begin reading. Without doing a review of the book itself, I will say that it helped me connect more with Baphomet in all of their guises and facets. That’s where this article is going, and why I felt the need for that rather winded introduction.<\/p>\n For the first two days of having the book, I got through 2 chapters (my weekends tend to be busy), but on that Monday, I finished the entire book, followed by an invocation of Baphomet and gaining gnosis and comfort with their presence. They’re now appearing in my dreams, sending me messages in various ways, and hinting that something big was coming Wednesday with the Full Moon. Boy, they weren’t lying!<\/p>\n Baphomet as the icon we know today originates as a symbol laden with Satanic-esque imagery to hide the true mysteries they contain from those with eyes who shouldn’t or can’t see. Those who are initiated, or wise to the hidden (occult) reality of nature, therefore see past the “Satanic” imagery, and see the whole of the cosmos, the principles of alchemy, as well as hermetic thought, all entwined in the icon known as Baphomet. This gives us our first clue as to their nature: they are one of shadow, of light, of life, of death, and transformation, and lastly, of occult widsom. Baphomet can help us see past illusions, deceit, and help us align with our truest selves, if we let them. The process, however, is not easy; this is a path not oft traversed, nor is it for the faint of heart. Baphomet will rip out those things we hide from everyone, including ourselves, and throw it on the ground, and press our face in it. We may try to fight it, but they will keep using their hooves to push us back to face it, until we can bear it, laugh at it, and let them devour the rot that it is.<\/p>\n Baphomet is not just a sin-eating type; they are an alchemical master. They can help us fill the voids these things they force us to confront leave with healthy things. An example from my life, and one that is as recent as this week, is a tic, or compulsive behavior that I undergo daily (used to-I’m diagnosed OCD, so that’s where the behavior comes from)-I had to face the reality of not doing it anymore. Full stop. Objects associated with it, behavior patterns, even my thought processes, had to be laid bare in front of me. The core issue of that particular tic was rooted in trauma, and of course, the trauma had to faced as well. Incessantly, without end, until I could laugh it in the face. Only then, did Baphomet devour it, releasing me from those shackles. Baphomet isn’t the Devil, we are. We keep ourselves chained to addictions, pain, trauma, and other things, all in the name of keeping society comfortable. For the sake of others’ comfort, who only gain when we’re compliant. Baphomet says enough of that shit!<\/p>\n Baphomet takes on many characteristics in their imagery that are associated with the Devil-specifically the animalistic depiction and horns. Those themes take us back to the Horned Gods of Old, which eventually became the Devil of Christendom, as both the Horned Gods, and the Devil, were said to rule over the Earth, while YHVH or Yahweh, ruled over the Heavens. To the pagan mind in early conversion efforts, especially in Celtic lands, many interpreted this as the Devil being the God of Earth, and Yahweh being the God of the Heavens and Sky. And to the cunning person, this was a dichotomy that was easily worked with for magickal purposes.<\/p>\n Since Baphomet embodies these energies, we can say that they are also a spirit of magick, nature, and a portal between the realms-be it Infernal\/Chthonic, Earthly, or Celestial\/Heavenly. Baphomet, having similarities with other Horned Gods, then also must rule over nature, from the plants, trees, animals, the spirits denizens of nature, as well as any other spirits and beings that inhabit the natural world alongside us. Again, they act as a portal, and, if you develop a deep enough relationship, a guide and protector. Baphomet can also be seen equally as the force of death, transformation and regeneration, in relation to the natural cycles we on Earth experience, but also in a much larger, cosmic and spiritual sense.<\/p>\n Baphomet, in the final bits I’ll discuss before getting to the Mass of Baphomet I performed last night, can also be related to the idea of a divine rebel, like other deities such as Loki, Ex\u00fa, Hermes and others. There is a trickster aspect to them, much as in the lore of the Devil of the Witches and Crossroads. Alongside this, they, much as the deities mentioned previously, and, the Devil of folklore, are also the allie of the sorcerer, witch, and magus; this is abundantly clear in their imagery, and I won’t spend anymore time on this aspect, as I want you, the reader, to experience these energies yourself, if you so choose. The last aspect and facet of Baphomet that I’ll discuss is that of the Embodiment of Adversarial Light. Those familiar with Luciferian thought and other LHP schools of thought are likely familiar with this idea: the Black Light of Lucifer, or, the Adversarial Light. Baphomet, as said previously, embodies these qualities quite well, now standing in as a symbol of political resistance against encroaching Christian extremists and fascists. Where else can you see the Adversarial Light present in our modern day? Hint: it’s everywhere, thanks to folks like me who summon it.<\/p>\n I began the rite with a circle casting, infusing Chaos Magick elements, such as the Chaos Star instead of Pentagrams, and intoning barbarous words of power to open the Gates for Bapohmet themselves to be present in the space with me. After chanting my invocation at 3:33 am, I applied Belladonna oil to my temples, soles of my feet, as well as the underside of my wrists, where the blood vessels and veins are more prominent. I turned on a dark ambient playlist, and the third song to play was\u00a0As Alive as You Need Me To Be<\/em> by Nine Inch Nails. As the song came to an end, the next song didn’t start, instead, this song was locked on repeat, playing the music video (a feature on Spotify that was activated for this song), and drifting me into a trance state. What came next was unexpected, a first for me personally, and exhilarating all at the same time.<\/p>\n The following will be a list of revelations (for lack of a better term) that I gained in my trance communication with Baphomet, after performing a Mass and Invocation to them. I will leave them just as they were given to me, as they’re pretty clear, save for a couple ambiguous ones that will reveal themselves in due time.<\/p>\n To say that I was taken back by these revelations is an understatement. My perception of current events was mostly in line with this, but I hadn’t considered some of the views Baphomet espoused in this gnostic experience. I never paid much attention to that ritual, depsite having a copy of that book on my shelf multiple times over the years (one was destroyed by a dog I used to have). The Egg Moon proved to be different; while I didn’t\u00a0exactly\u00a0do the ritual that Carroll gives, I did use it as a springboard for my own, mixing in some extra gnosis from Baphomet themselves, as well as some Left Hand Path elements from previous experience. I also decided to work with Belladonna-specifically my Belladonna Ritual oil from Coby Michael’s shop. Belladonna has the folkloric name of “The Devil’s Berry”, and is a known ingredient in the witches’ flying ointment recipes, and, alongside being poisonous, is also an\u00a0entheogen, a substance that induces trance states, or divine connection. The Egg Moon proved to be different; while I didn’t\u00a0exactly\u00a0<\/em>do the ritual that Carroll gives, I did use it as a springboard for my own, mixing in some extra gnosis from Baphomet themselves, as well as some Left Hand Path elements from previous experience. I also decided to work with Belladonna-specifically my Belladonna Ritual oil from Coby Michael’s shop. Belladonna has the folkloric name of “The Devil’s Berry”, and is a known ingredient in the witches’ flying ointment recipes, and, alongside being poisonous, is also an\u00a0entheogen<\/em>, a substance that induces trance states, or divine connection.<\/p>\n
