{"id":6562,"date":"2012-04-01T01:10:09","date_gmt":"2012-04-01T06:10:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/paganpages.org\/content\/?p=6755"},"modified":"2012-03-23T10:56:27","modified_gmt":"2012-03-23T15:56:27","slug":"meditation-moment-16","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/paganpages.org\/emagazine\/2012\/04\/01\/meditation-moment-16\/","title":{"rendered":"Meditation Moment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Using Images to Guide Meditation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/paganpages.org\/emagazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/meditation.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-6756\" title=\"meditation\" src=\"https:\/\/paganpages.org\/emagazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/meditation.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"266\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For this exercise, you need an image that evokes strong emotion in you, a notebook, and a writing implement.\u00a0 Choose strong positive emotion (makes you laugh, smile, wanna hug someone) if your goal for this exercise is progress along your path or spiritual growth.\u00a0 Choose strong negative emotion if you feel ready to heal some fear, anger, or sadness.\u00a0 Please take care of yourself \u2013 don&#8217;t explore profound fear or pain unless you know how to make yourself feel good again afterward (without drugs, preferably.)<\/p>\n<p>The image can come from cards, paintings, photos, books, drawings, anywhere really.\u00a0 Choose a picture that has no words, or that you can cover the words.\u00a0 Especially if you are using a tarot or oracle card, cover the words.\u00a0 Words are limitting.<\/p>\n<p>Have your image and your writing utensils accessible in a place where you will not be interrupted for at least 15 minutes.\u00a0 Leave your cell phone elsewhere or turn off the ringer.\u00a0 Light a candle and burn some incense if you like.\u00a0 Play some soft wordless music or turn on a fan to drown out sounds from outside your meditation zone.\u00a0 Dim the lights so it is just bright enough to see your image.\u00a0 Have a small snack ready to munch on when you are done, and a nourishing beverage (water, tea, etc.)<\/p>\n<p>You can record the questions with appropriate pauses and play it for yourself so you don&#8217;t have to look from this page to the image and back.\u00a0 You can have the experience with the image first and then write all about it, or you can write after every prompt, recording the experience and exploring with it on paper as you go.<\/p>\n<p>Prepare your body by stretching every muscle you can think to stretch.\u00a0 Rub your shoulders or neck if that relaxes you.\u00a0 Massage your scalp (or scratch your head.)\u00a0 Yawn.\u00a0 Take three slow, deep breaths.<\/p>\n<p>Gaze at your picture.<\/p>\n<p>What about this image evokes strong feelings in you?\u00a0 Is it the colors, the subject matter?\u00a0 What stands out to you?<\/p>\n<p>Imagine you are inside this picture, part of it.<\/p>\n<p>What can you smell, or taste?<\/p>\n<p>What can you hear?<\/p>\n<p>What does your body feel?<\/p>\n<p>What memories come up as you explore?\u00a0 Sit with them.\u00a0 What do you need to learn from these memories?\u00a0 What do they have to teach you about your present and your future?<\/p>\n<p>Does anything in the image inspire goals or hope?<\/p>\n<p>Do you feel a sense of direction, or a desire to move through the image to a place not shown?\u00a0 Explore if you feel moved to.<\/p>\n<p>When you are done with this exercise, stretch and take a few more deep breaths.\u00a0 Write down all the details you think are relevant, and meditate on the symbolism.
