A Question of Occupation<\/strong><\/p>\n

I can\u2019t turn on the TV anymore, because I get so upset listening to the news and the manipulative commercials. Is the world going to explode or implode or just shrivel up and die? It is so depressing out there. What can I do to feel better?<\/p>\n

Dear One,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You are not alone. We are all upset. But for once, the News has some good news! I am referring, of course to the Occupy Movement that\u00a0has swept the nation, articulating the cares and\u00a0concerns\u00a0of us all. These populist movements here, in Europe, in Canada, started with the Arab\u00a0Spring, which excited\u00a0people\u00a0everywhere about the\u00a0real\u00a0possibility of being able to truly\u00a0make change\u00a0in the world.\u00a0Egypt, especially, inspired a\u00a0global response to the peaceful occupation of Tahrir Square by huge, diverse crowds.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Wherever we live, we all know how it feels to be exploited, manipulated, and robbed blind by the devious and greedy powers that be.\u00a0And people everywhere\u00a0have had just\u00a0about enough, thank you very much.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Even though many of us might feel “mad as hell and not\u00a0going to take it\u00a0anymore,” the tenor of this movement is not angry or violent. Occupy Wall Street is not a rally, not a temporary gathering, but a town hall, public\u00a0forum, a\u00a0community\u00a0meeting place\u00a0where\u00a0the previously\u00a0silent<\/p>\n

voices can at last be heard.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Sp pitch a tent and occupy your own center, your\u00a0own\u00a0deepest, most authentic, most ethical,\u00a0most\u00a0articulate\u00a0self, and speak your truth out loud\u00a0and\u00a0often.\u00a0There are\u00a0signs in the NYC subway that\u00a0exhort\u00a0us , “If you\u00a0see\u00a0something, say something.”\u00a0Well,\u00a0we have seen what we\u00a0have seen, and now it is\u00a0time to say something about it.<\/p>\n

I guarantee you this will make you feel much better. And you will be encouraging others to speak up, as well. Through your good example.<\/p>\n
