{"id":7808,"date":"2013-04-01T01:10:06","date_gmt":"2013-04-01T06:10:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/paganpages.org\/content\/?p=8080"},"modified":"2013-03-23T17:39:13","modified_gmt":"2013-03-23T22:39:13","slug":"paranormal-path-31","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/paganpages.org\/emagazine\/2013\/04\/01\/paranormal-path-31\/","title":{"rendered":"Paranormal Path"},"content":{"rendered":"<div align=\"center\"><strong>Doppelganger<\/strong><\/div>\n<div align=\"center\"><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Have you ever heard the theory that we all have a twin?\u00a0 The thought that there may be someone out there who looks and acts exactly as we do only it is not us at all.\u00a0 To some this is a mere urban legend, the myth of the Doppelganger.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Though is this really a myth?\u00a0 There may be some truth to this bizarre phenomenon.\u00a0 A look back reveals there have been some recorded cases in history of people seeing and even interacting with these \u201cother halves\u201d.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The word is German for \u201cdouble goer\u201d or \u201cdouble walker\u201d.\u00a0 Similar is the Vardoger from Scandinavian folklore, which describes a spirit predecessor.\u00a0 The doppelganger is believed to be much more sinister.\u00a0 Seeing your exact double is said to be a bad omen, a sure sign of misfortune or even death.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 An example of such an encounter involved Abraham Lincoln.\u00a0 Shortly after he was elected in 1860, Mr. Lincoln was relaxing in his chamber one evening.\u00a0 He glanced toward a mirror and saw his reflection but with 2 separate faces.\u00a0 One face matched identical while the other looked very pale and sickly.\u00a0 When the President walked to the mirror to examine further the image disappeared only to reappear once he returned to his lounge.\u00a0 Bothered by the strange occurrence, he mentioned it to his wife later that evening.\u00a0 She expressed her fears that it could mean he would not live to see a second term.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A very popular story of bi-location tells the story of a school teacher named Emilie Sagee in 19<sup>th<\/sup> century France.\u00a0 While writing on the chalk board, Emilie\u2019s double was seen as it appeared beside her.\u00a0 The image was exact except it wasn\u2019t holding a piece of chalk.\u00a0 This was witnessed by her entire classroom of 13 students.\u00a0 This was not the only time Emilie\u2019s doppelganger was seen.\u00a0 One day there were 42 students in the schools hall for a sewing class, they could see Ms. Sagee outside in the garden gathering flowers.\u00a0 When the sewing teacher stepped out of the room, the image of Emilie Sagee began to slowly appear in the teacher\u2019s chair, it sat motionless.\u00a0 The students could clearly see Ms. Sagee was still outside in the garden, though she began to look very tired and weak.\u00a0 A couple of brave students attempted to approach the apparition but said it felt as if there was a strange force around it, preventing them from getting too close.\u00a0 Emilie said she never saw the apparition herself but admitted to feeling very drained of energy whenever it made these appearances.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 John Donne, a poet during the 16<sup>th<\/sup> century described seeing his wife\u2019s doppelganger while he was in Paris.\u00a0 The image was holding a baby and appeared to be very sad.\u00a0 His wife was pregnant at the time.\u00a0 John soon discovered at the very moment he saw the image; his wife gave birth to a stillborn child.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Another English poet, Percy Shelly met his exact image while in Italy.\u00a0 The ghostly double silently pointed out towards the Mediterranean Sea.\u00a0 He later described the strange experience to friends and family.\u00a0 Soon after in 1822, Percy died in a sailing accident at that exact location.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 There are different variations of what a doppelganger actually is and why it appears.\u00a0 There is an old legend that describes evil imps or faeries that would steal healthy babies and replace them with sickly ones.\u00a0 Some believe that since everyone has a good and bad side, these entities are obviously the \u201cbad\u201d versions of us.\u00a0 Another thought is the doppelganger is stuck in another time and it allows us a brief glimpse into the future.<\/div>\n<p>These stories may be just that, stories.
