{"id":8220,"date":"2013-06-01T01:10:06","date_gmt":"2013-06-01T06:10:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/paganpages.org\/content\/?p=8511"},"modified":"2013-05-21T07:23:08","modified_gmt":"2013-05-21T12:23:08","slug":"seeing-the-signs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/paganpages.org\/emagazine\/2013\/06\/01\/seeing-the-signs\/","title":{"rendered":"Seeing the Signs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is my birthday today!\u00a0 On my birthday, I have several rituals I perform.\u00a0 One, I bake myself a cake.\u00a0 This year it\u2019s a yellow cake with a cocoa fudge frosting.\u00a0 I also cook myself a special meal.\u00a0 Even if I go out, I like to cook myself something special to eat.\u00a0 I am going to roast a chicken later on, stuffed with lemons and rosemary and garlic.\u00a0 I have fresh asparagus for a side, and I am going to make a rice pilaf.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>One thing I always do is check my numbers for the upcoming year.\u00a0 This is a combination of numerology and tarot.\u00a0 I started doing this when I read <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Tarot for Yourself: A Workbook for Personal Transformation<\/span>, by <em>Mary K. Greer<\/em>.\u00a0 Greer herself credits <em>Angeles Arrien\u2019s<\/em> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Tarot Handbook<\/span> for the ideas she sets forth in the chapter about life numbers, personality numbers, and soul numbers, and either book is a good guide when learning how to figure out your numbers and using the tarot for deeper analysis.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It is easy to figure out your numbers.\u00a0 Take the year, the month and the day of your birth and add them together.\u00a0 In my case, that\u2019s 1960 + 5 + 19 = 1984.\u00a0 Then add 1 + 9 + 8\u00a0 + 4 = 22\/4.\u00a0 In most cases, you\u2019ll get one number, but if you get two numbers, the first (larger) number is your personality number and the second number is your soul number.\u00a0 Both Greer and Angeles go into this much more deeply than I am able to here and I highly recommend both books.<\/p>\n<p>My personality number is 4 and my soul number is 22\/0.\u00a0 In Tarot terms, that is The Emperor and the Fool.\u00a0 If those two seem to be at cross-purposes, at times I confuse myself!\u00a0 My Fool self wants to play and laugh and party, but my Emperor self says to work.\u00a0 My Emperor self is a hard-ass!\u00a0 I try to placate the two of them by working hard every morning and playing in the afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This year, I am on the path of 3, which in Tarot terms is the Empress.\u00a0 Even though I am past being able to bear children, I am fertile with ideas and projects.\u00a0 I am writing more poems than I ever thought possible.\u00a0 I feel like I am becoming large with life, fecund and full.\u00a0 According to Kari Samuels, a three year is a \u201cpotently creative time\u201d so instead of worrying about one\u2019s future, do \u201cwhat feeds your spirit and makes you happy.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s what my Fool self likes to hear!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I make notes in my spiritual journal about this year\u2019s path.\u00a0 Last year was the start of a new cycle.\u00a0 It was a two year, the year of The High Priestess.\u00a0 This year, I am working hard to continue the lessons I learned last year.\u00a0 I said goodbye to people that were toxic and opened myself to new opportunities.\u00a0 I became more disciplined spiritually.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I am excited about this year!\u00a0 All the signs say it is going to be a fruitful and successful year.\u00a0 All I can do is work as hard as I can to help manifest the sign I am seeing.\u00a0 Blessings to all!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>References<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Angeles, Arrien.\u00a0 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Tarot Handbook: Practical Applications of Ancient Visual Symbols<\/span>.
