Even the government has been putting out information on how to survive the zombie apocalypse.\u00a0 After all, if you\u2019re ready for that, you should be ready for most any other emergency or disaster, right?<\/p>\n<p>I can\u2019t help but wonder why we seem culturally obsessed with the end of society. What does this say about us as a people? Have we collectively given up hope in being able to make big changes for the better without some massive disaster forcing us to?<\/p>\n<p>And why zombies? Are we, as a society, spiritually dead and trying to make sense of it all?<\/p>\n<p>Because the zombie apocalypse is already starting. The signs are all over. Watch the people around you. Consider for a moment the signs and symptoms of someone being a zombie. Zombies are largely unaware of their surroundings. They shamble their way through their environment, only interacting with it when something affects them directly. They aren\u2019t too concerned with much more than satisfying their hunger and craving. They don\u2019t do much to take care of themselves. They are only minimally capable of working together and cooperating.<\/p>\n<p>I see zombies all over the place. Their glazed and lifeless eyes stare at phone screens as they sit in traffic. They shuffle along sidewalks without seeming to notice each other. They don\u2019t generally interact with each other when they pass each other by. They go through the motions of life, not setting any goals or making plans. They go through their lives day-by-day, just existing but not really <strong>alive<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>How many of the people you see do you think are really alive? Are you?<\/p>\n<p>How do we make sure we aren\u2019t zombies? How we do protect ourselves from them?<\/p>\n<p>The simple answer is to live life to the fullest. The simplest measure to separate the living from the zombies is passion. Zombies don\u2019t have passions, and they certainly don\u2019t seem to live their lives according to any passions. So figure out what you\u2019re passionate about, what really brings meaning to your life, and make sure you incorporate that into your life. Make goals for your life\u2014not just a job and career path, but what you want to be remembered for later on. Fill your life, and your life\u2019s plans, with things that make you feel really alive.<\/p>\n<p>Nurture your connections to others and to the environment and to spirit. These are some of the things that contribute to life spiritually.<\/p>\n<p>The zombie movies teach the simplest rule to stay safe from zombies: avoid them! Don\u2019t let them infect you. Choose who you surround yourself with, who you share your life with. Surround yourself with people who make you feel alive. Distance yourself from those who drain your energy.
