Symbols are universal images. They represent something abstract or not physically present – an object, idea, action, sound, instruction, gesture, etc. – that will convey to you a specific meaning. Sacred symbols are a subset associated with prayer, meditation, and divination. In this unique deck, Stefano Fusi compiled forty of these spiritual symbols plus the “symbol of symbols” from which all the others are derived. They are artistic expressions with specific meanings from many world religions and cultures that, he states, “speak directly to our psychic sphere” and “are keys to approach the vast field of the Spirit, to reach the creative Source.”

Stefano created the detailed, black-and-white illustrations from inspirations he received in meditation. Then he wrote the short summaries appearing in the guidebook. In addition to the image and its name, there is a meaning, a keyword, a message, and an action to take that aligns with the symbol.

It’s Stefano’s belief that working with the sacred symbols – such as the Egyptian udjat, Buddhism’s Dharmachakra, the Celtic triskele, and the Taoist bagua  – can bring about self-realization, enlightenment, and divine wisdom.

Drawing a card can be done randomly with them facing down or, with them right side up, choosing one that intrigues or otherwise attracts your attention. Readers are urged to take an hour or more to look at the symbol, note initial impressions, read the explanation in the guidebook, meditate on it, then reproduce the image. Coloring the cards with pencils, markers, or paint will personalize the deck.

The cards are large and stiff, making them difficult for me to riffle shuffle. The stock is matte and appears thick enough for colors not to bleed through. I will not be coloring this deck for the intricate details require more precision than I can give. However, I like the black and while images as they are. Those who do color the illustrations will strengthen their meditative practice and have a personalized and more meaningful divination deck.
