Going Shamanic Radio
“Going Shamanic” is hosted by Jennifer Engracio on P.A.G.E. Media Project’s blogtalk radio each month. The show focuses on how to integrate shamanism into every day life. Instead of relegating the spiritual aspect of ourselves to Sundays at church or weekend workshops, this show will support listeners in weaving ritual, prayer, magic, alignment with the Spiritworld and the Earth into their lives to enrich their experience of living. This month Discussion is About Ascension and the Human Spirit’s Evolution… On this episode, Jen talks with Carrell Mehl, a Reiki Master Teacher and Shamanic Practitioner who focuses on what it takes to walk the path of Ascension. This show is rich in ways to transition and transform…

Change as a Natural Part of Life
“Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.” -George Bernard Shaw In his CBC interview, historian Chris Kutarna argues that we are currently in the middle of a renaissance and a natural part of this is an element of disruption. Many of us live with a belief that things should stay the same. We stay locked into the nostalgic memories of times when we felt we understood life and how it works. The only truth I know is that life is always changing; it must adapt to grow. Because we are a part of nature, this is true for humans too. In…

Solstice Releases and Intentions
At this time of year, my inner wise one (A.K.A High Self or Dreamer) wants to slow down to the pace of cracking ice. All I want to do as folks buzz around buying gifts is to journey to the centre of the planet where I can dream with the Earth Mother. I want to engage in the Norse tradition of hygge and regain balance. Often, I do any Christmas preparations in November so I can have this time in December for introspection and slowing down. Ancient peoples, of course, knew that the winter solstice was a powerful time for dreaming and connecting with the inner wise one. In my home, we…

Death as a Teacher
Death is a life teacher because it is unavoidable. It makes life that much more precious to know that your death is around the corner. It can teach you about what is important and what is not. It can jolt you into an understanding of how each moment is fleeting. It destroys the illusion that things remain the same forever. Death is also present in every experience of change that you have because there are always losses associated with it. Whether the change is good or bad, self initiated or a surprise, it creates a hole in the reality you have constructed. -Hyemeyohsts Storm? from “Lightningbolt” Death is considered one…

Shamanism and Mental Health
“Your mind is potentially the most flexible part of you, much more so than even your body, emotions, or spirit. The reason is that the primary quality of your mind is your imagination. Developing your mental self means developing the power to focus your imagination in order to expand your awareness, increase your ability to learn more and faster, appreciate different points of view, notice the reactions of others more quickly so you can adapt to them more effectively, and include more patterns of behavior in your repertoire for coping with the unexpected, to name a few.”? *from: “Huna: Ancient Hawaiian Secrets for Modern Living” by Serge Kahili King …

Ancient Strategies for Cultivating Inner Peace
Ancient Strategies for Cultivating Inner Peace “A trigger is something that sets off a memory tape or flashback transporting the person back to the event of her/his original trauma.” -from psychcentral.com By now, most of you know about the ancient practice of meditation as a way of developing a state of inner peace. This is a useful practice of engaging “not doing” or the feminine aspect of ourselves. The ancient ones also saw a need to activate the “doing” or masculine aspect of ourselves in some instances where we are emotionally triggered by someone or something in order to gain self-mastery. This is best epitomized in the “Serenity…

Forgiveness Practice in Families
In my daily work with children and families, the theme of forgiveness makes its way into many conversations I have with parents especially. Parents are in a leadership role that they are sometimes ill-prepared for. If they didn’t experience good parenting when they were children or see mentors engaging children with respect, it can be like becoming the CEO of a company you have no previous knowledge of. All of the sudden, parents are expected to launch into a demanding world of care, consistency, and responsibility while operating on very little sleep! This would stretch the capacity of any human being. In Hawaiian culture, there is a forgiveness practice…
