    Weyland’s Whey Mabon 2025 Column

Mabon This year Mabon will arrive on Monday, September 22nd. It’s the second harvest on the Wheel of the Year.  (Lughnasadh is first, Samhain is third), and it celebrates feasting, giving thanks, and preparation for Winter. Mabon Activities Try a nice, quiet walk outdoors. Helpful hint: don’t take along a dachshund, unless you’re collecting ulcers. Delinquent barks at everything. Now, since my heart attack, I’d like to think she’s actually trying to “protect” me against (to her) perceived threats, but a stroll with her is far from tranquil. I reserve walks with my little girl (three or four times a day, Pilgrim–puppies need exercise!) for times I can concentrate on her, not trying…

Weyland’s Whey September 2025 Blood Moon Eclipse Column

Full Moon Call it the Blood Moon. It’s subject to a total lunar eclipse on September 7th-8th, depending on the observer’s time zone.  It will take about 3 1/2 hours for the Earth to pass before the moon. Totality (when Earth’s shadow fully covers the moon) will take about 1 hour, 22 minutes. Sorry, Pilgrims, this show won’t be visible from the US. It will be seen from Asia, Australia, Africa, Europe and New Zealand. According to NASA, the next total lunar eclipse seen from this country will be on March 3rd, 2026. Now, maybe we won’t be able to see it, but the astrological impact will still be…

Weyland’s Whey, August 2025 Spirit Moon Column

Full Moon The Spirit Moon rises tomorrow, August 9th. Named by the Ojibwe people, indigenous to the Northeastern woodlands and sub artic. It’s associated with Aquarius. A moment of release, perseverance and strength. A powerful time for reclaiming purpose and parts of your self that have been dormant. (Go.com, Wikipedia.) It’s August 8th International Cat Day Mee-yow! MAGAZINE Review The cover story of the August 11th issue of People is about the Prince of Darkness himself, Ozzy Osbourne. ‘Nuff said!   “How do you move on? Weyland’s Whey, Lughnasadh 2025 Column

Blessed Lughnasadh! Also known as Lammas or Lughnasa. It’s a Gaelic festival that marks the start of the harvest season. Named after the god Lugh. In medieval times, huge gatherings included ceremonies, horse racing, athletic contests (think Tailteann Games. Look it up, I had to) and matchmaking. In more recent times. Lughnasadh celebrations include baking bread, feasting and community events. Some areas recognize the festival as a time for trial marriages, signifying new beginnings and partnerships. Am I the only one wondering about trial divorces as well? Might be popular… MUSIC Review Music for Lughnasadh–Lammas Songs (Celtic Festival). Miquel Berkemeir. Celtic/Pagan music. Violin. Impressive. Ranges from upbeat to haunting. Check…

Weyland’s Whey July 2025 New Moon Column

New Moon Ahead The New Sturgeon Moon will be on Thursday, July 24th. It’s not named for doctors! (Sturgeon, not Surgeon, Pilgrim!) Seems like a slew of them are caught in the American Great Lakes this time of year. (www.fullmoonology.com) Be Advised Mercury is in Leo retrograde until August 10th (or 11th, depending upon authority cited). Do: think before you speak. Don’t: expect perfection. (Your Tango) TV Review Wednesday. Season 2. Part 1: August 6th. Part 2: September 3rd. Netflix.   “Do not worry about energy or draining one’s soul. Souls are self-maintaining. Nobody ever gave too much love.” –Mihos   No More Tears Ozzy Osbourne, only weeks after a sold-out farewell show with Black…

Weyland’s Whey July 2025 Buck Moon Column

Buck Moon Named after male deer, because their antlers hit full growth around this time. The moon entered Capricorn on the 9th. Libras are one of the signs that’ll fulfill their destiny in this full moon, striving hard to realize their dreams and helping their family members grow. (I’m thinking shoe lifts, but that can’t be right.) Superlative goals, Pilgrims! Good luck! (Parade, msn.com, forbes.com.) For Your Deliberation  Paranormal investigator Dan Rivera died Sunday July 13th while showcasing the notorious Annabelle doll, which is known for The Conjuring movie franchise. He was 54. The Adams County Chief Deputy Coroner says the doll was not present and Mr. Rivera was found alone.…

Weyland’s Whey Summer Solstice 2025 Column

The Solstice The sun moves into Cancer, and the moon into Taurus. The next 4 weeks will be a great time to invest in both yourself and your loved ones. (If you can think of a bad time for either, you’ve got me beat, Pilgrim!) I haven’t specified a date here because in my research I got June 20th and June 21st. (Sheesh!) Prudence pays! Happy Juneteenth! Juneteenth will be celebrated in New Jersey on Friday, due to an amendment of the original legislative draft establishing it as a state holiday, which switched the observance to the 3rd Friday in June. No mail was delivered to our cul-de-sac today, so I guess New Jersey…

Weyland’s Whey June 9th, 2025 Strawberry Moon Column

Strawberry Moon It arrives, the last full moon of Spring, on June 11th. It’ll also be a micro moon, looking smaller and dimmer than normal. (Much like yours truly.) It was called “Strawberry Moon” by Algonquian tribes, among others, for the brief harvest season of–you guessed it, Pilgrim–strawberries that accompanied its appearance.  This year it shows up in Sagittarius, which rules connections personal and global. (Old Farmer’s Almanac.) For Your Deliberation Remember last column’s Wey’s Predictions, where I talked (ranted) about insect population decline? Well, recently I spoke to Trish, our newest Townie and resident genius. She was already familiar with the topic and suggested I check out insect decline in Germany.…

Weyland’s Whey, May 22nd, 2025 New Moon Column

New Moon The New Moon will occur on Monday, May 26th at 11:02 pm EST. It will be in Gemini and will signify a moment of beginnings, connection and fresh starts. It will be a good time to set intentions and plant seeds for the future. (Sources: Born Under Saturn, Elle, Horoscope View.) Beautiful Dreamer The night kitty Tabitha returned home from being spayed, we set her up in the office room with a little bed and nearby bowls of food and water. Around midnight, I was awakened by something at my feet. It was Tabitha, curled up around her Elizabethan collar and fast asleep. How she made it up the pet ramp…

Weyland’s Whey May 11th 2025 Flower Moon Column

Over the Moon It’s called the Flower Moon for the multitude of flowers that pop up in May. (No, Pilgrims don’t count. Sheesh…) No Place Like Home This is my first weekend back after heart bypass surgery and rehab.  Thanks to everybody for all the calls and texts!  And most especially to my sweetheart Sparkle–we spoke every day and she visited me often. Namor and Crystal did me a long distance favor while I was still in rehab, earning my eternal gratitude. Hershey sent several texts. As did Mihos. And my doctors and nurses made an experience out of what easily could have become an ordeal. My religion was a great comfort to…
