Morgan’s Wardrobe
Summer is Finally Here!
So the warm weather has finally arrived. Most Pagans’ I know love to plant and grow things outside and this is the case here at the Wardrobe as well. This month I would like to touch on the energies that plants can bring to your home. As a rule, I like to consult a reference source to tell me what kind of energies plants are going to bring into my home before I bring them home. This way there are no surprises. My favorite reference book for this is “Cunningham’s Encyclopedia of Magickal Herbs” written by Scott Cunningham. Don’t let the word herbs in the title fool you as most magickal references to plants generalize plants into the category of herbs.
There are some mainstays that I keep in the house year round and some regulars that I plant yearly no matter where Goddess has decided to plant me. This year I have made myself a “step garden” in that I have planted things in pots and lined the steps up to the Wardrobe with the pots. On every other step I have placed a flower and in between the flowers are herbs and a few potted tomatoes. I am quite happy with my step garden.
The flowers I have chosen are moss roses, violas and marigolds. Moss roses and violas fill a large pot at the bottom of the steps. There are also two pairs of hiking boots which have worn out but because of special meaning attached to them are now used as planters. They are filled with moss roses as well. A few small pots of marigolds are placed here and there as well. I have also put out several pots of herbs such as chives, parsley, lavender and rosemary. I love my herbs and the potted herbs work well for me now and I am hoping to bring them in the house for the Winter as well. I was also given a few potted tomato plants and I am looking forward to yummy home grown treats from them this summer.
Generally, most of the plants I have in and around the Wardrobe carry the energies of protection, healing and general good feelings. Some have the added energies of luck and love as well. This kind of energy tends to offer a feeling of peace and calming when I sit out among them. When I put plants out I see them as a sacred place to honor Goddess, perhaps that is why I pick the plants that I do.
While keeping a plants energies in mind when you are planting, I still believe that following one’s own intuition is the best way to plant what is personal and specific to you. With that in mind, have fun creating a sacred space outside.
