A Place for Order

With the vernal equinox occurring this month I feel a natural sense of balance. I have a need to bring my house, body and spiritual life into order so as to meet the growing energy of the turn of the year.

How does order affect our daily life as a person? How does order affect our life as a Pagan?  How does it affect our intent?

Putting our life in order.

There are bookshelves full of how-to books on creating order out of chaos in our closets, kitchens, and garages; books that show us how to bring order to our finances and health. There are many that try to teach us how to bring order to our thoughts and inner world. Books we usually buy, glance at once or twice, and put aside because it all seems too big a project to handle right now. And if we hear the words “baby steps” one more time we’ll scream!

But we are in the month of March and that traditionally means Spring Cleaning. How awful that sounds! But wait. What if we make spring-cleaning a ritual in itself? A mindful, one day at a time, ritual that brings blessings to every room of our home.

Energy is stirred up and moved and every corner awakens. Deities are called to fill the now cleaned spaces.   If we choose one room to focus on at a time, it does not feel overwhelming. And remembering January’s virtue of Simplicity and February’s virtue of Love, we can remove surface clutter, wipe with a damp cloth infuse with an oil of our choosing, sweep or vacuum followed by breathing blessings into the space. Simplicity, Love and now Order fill our home.

Putting our Pagan “house” in order.

My guess is that everyone has their own way of bringing order to   their spiritual life. Perhaps there is no “one size fits all” formula.

I know I am on autopilot when it comes to the order in which a ritual is planned. Order, which brings me peace in knowing I have not forgotten anything. And having my ritual tools in one place and lovingly cleaned and attended to are important. I do think we need to   clean our own “house” of assumptions yearly as well.

Autopilot can let a lot of clutter into not only our homes but also   our thoughts and beliefs. Releasing those things that no longer serve us not only creates space for more good in our life, but also allows us to focus on those things that really matter. Anger, resentment, hurt need to be looked at and lovingly let go.

Forgive does not mean forget.

Harm None refers to ourselves as well as others.

Putting our priorities in order.

For me, this is where real living begins.

Our time, talent and treasure need to be managed in order to fully bless. It is overwhelming to list all of the parts of my self as well as my life that need prioritizing. I’m guessing that is true of everyone.

Let us think about what really is sacred to our life. I watch people interviewed after natural disasters where everything they owned as well as their job was destroyed. With each and every one, they say having their loved ones safe is all that matters.

Number one priority – the people I love and who love me.

Number two priority – showing those people I care.

For me, there is a lot of work involved with just those two priorities. For some of them it involves a loving home and nurturing food and all the financial resources to make that happen. For others it involves encouragement and ideas. And both require spiritual support.

When swept, cleaned, cleared and organized, our inner as well as outer lives can rest in the knowledge that all is well. The coming energy of spring and summer has a place to fill. We are ready.
